Food is good but service is horrible. I gave them 3 chances and ordered to go. Each time they told me 35-45 minutes wait and it was always longer. The last straw was I had ordered my food at 5:30 went after work to pick it up at 6:45 and they said it's almost done. I saw my ticket behind the counter at the bar and the guy kept placing other tickets in front of mines. I waited until 7:00 and not even 1 roll was done. How the hell does a to go order not be finished in an hour and a half?! I've boycotted this place. There's many other better places where the food and service is excellent.

After an 8 hour roadtrip back home from Atlanta, we wanted sushi. I had been wanting to try out Tchoupstix since before moving here, based solely on the name and my appreciation for puns. Called ahead at 9:25 pm to find out if they were open--have since checked the website and they should be open until 10pm on a Friday. The gentleman who answered the phone said they stopped seating at 9:45 which is totally fair. We booked it-- got there at 9:38pm. The gentleman behind the bar saw us pull up to the front door, obviously said something to the hostess, and we watched her practically RUN to the door and start shutting off lights. ARE YOU FOR REAL? Just tell me you're closed over the phone. Seriously. Just lie. It is your job to seat people until 9:45pm and take food/drink orders until 10pm. Not shut your door in the face of a potential customer, during business hours, on a Friday night no less. That is so insanely rude. I will be bringing all of my sushi business to OSAKA 21 which was AMAZING sushi, plus great service: totally accommodating and polite.

Amazing Amazing Amazing!! It simply does not get any better than this place. It is the best Sushi I have had in Louisiana. The food is prepared fresh to order, not before hand like most other sushi restaurants. All the soulless people who complain about the time of food have no idea about the quality of good food. I would rather wait for fresh food than get two day old sushi. These people think sushi is fast food. They think it should be Sushi King or Sushidonald's. You people are a cornucopia of worthlessness. You are taking an art and dragging it through the dirt. If their food is so poor, then why are they always on a wait on Friday Nights. I eat there about three times a week. I understand this, seems the rest of the white trash from the northshore does not understand this. I live on the South shore and drive the thirty minutes to get this sushi. That says it all. Have a little patience people, We here in the city understand this. All of you Chalmette transplants should crawl back into that hell hole yall came from. Also in regards to the long winded post about the sushi and the wait time..... Did you make your movie in time or did you rush home dial up AOL and attempt to realize the stress the these people go through and be thankful the server or the sushi chef didnt play hacky sack with your food. Of course not, we have to go and complain on the internet in a unorganized manner. It would appear the English language eludes you, judging by the lack coordinated thoughts. Try taking a class. Something tells me you probably just walked out on your bill as well. You people are trash. Oh and paying for to go boxes offends??? Of course you hippish douche, you expect everything for free. You should be thankful that they do sushi to go. Now that I have addressed that... The Sushi. The best is the Box sushi. Amazing. Like I said, I go three times a week for the enjoyment. The Clear Soup is complimentary and brought out to the table per person, A simple treat to be honest. I usually sit at the Sushi bar. The two Chefs, Khan and Tony are hilarious. Always with a quick remark and making everything fresh before your eyes. The Drinks are also amazing. The bartender Josh has created several different drinks. The Sake Nightmare and the Sake Blossom are perfect. Tasty and strong. The servers seem like a great bunch. Laughing and joking with the customers. They are very quick and try to fix any problems that occur. All and all, seems like a well run happy restaurant. But people, dig down into your empty souls and have a little patience and sit back, and enjoy the food and relax. Remember, your wife cant make you sushi....

Yummy lunch special for $10. It came with delicious spicy tuna roll, crunchy roll, baked salmon, ginger salad (with fancy lettuce) and clear soup. All very good! Ill be back.

A previous reviewer is correct about the miso. The miso soup is the best miso I've had. It is very rich and satisfying. The sushi is good, too, and there was a tofu appetizer that was excellent. I think they called it the "baked tofu appetizer." Anyway, it was yummy with kind of a little crunchy crust and the most amazing sauce over very fluffy tofu. Also, I'm an iced tea nut and so many places have iced tea that is too weak. Not this place. The tea was good and the service was pleasant.

I really was turned off when the hostess asked me," who the eff are you," when I said I knew her... Foods okay, sometimes cold. Just average.

Service is absolutely OUTSTANDING. Sushi is delicious, but the service is what made the experience exceptional

The most expensive sushi joint on the Northshore, and it ain't even close. Food is good, but I'm pretty sure they've mistaken fish for gold. Specialty rolls are $11 and up and they're the size of $5-6 rolls at any other place. Be prepared to spend a bill for a family of four without drinks.

The food was outstanding and so was the service! Victoria was great! So ask for Victoria or Eric they are the best!!! The King Neptune roll is very good and one we always order. The Jalapeño Bangers are outstanding! Don't miss the Seaweed Salad, it is always fresh and crisp.

Good sushi, however it is on the pricer side for sushi in this area. Menu has gotten too large and seems like they are trying to do too much

Great sushi. I really love this place and I get takeout often from here. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because a few years ago the waitress added a $40 tip to the $8 I already gave her after I turned in my receipt. It took a while for me to go back but I am glad I did...and she does not work here anymore.

We had a terrible experience here. Our waitress must have been new, because it was among the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. We came in at an off time between lunch and dinner, so the restaurant was pretty empty. That being said, a couple came in a few minutes after we did. We sat down first, but our waitress took their orders first, even though we had been waiting for about ten minutes. By the time she got to us, we had waited so long that we were seriously considering walking out. We should have. She finally took our order. I wasn't really in the mood for sushi that day, so I ordered steak teriyaki. She told me they were out of steak teriyaki. I thought she indicated that they were out of steak, but turns out they were out of teriyaki, period. Again, this was before dinnertime. I settled on Yakisoba. We were a party of three, and the other two party members ordered various appetizers for their meal. She said she would be back with our drinks and their complimentary soup, but she forgot about the soup, so I reminded her, and she finally came back with it. My soup had part of a sweetener wrapper in it. I ordered sake, and no one else at our table ordered anything that would require sweetener, so the wrapper obviously wasn't ours. She said it was "gross" and that she had actually made the soup. She took it away without an apology or a replacement. A little while later, she popped by with a jalapeño popper appetizer and plopped it on our table before walking away without another word. We didn't order that appetizer; it was for her other table. We told her it wasn't ours, so she picked it up, walked two tables down, and gave it to the appropriate table. We didn't touch it, but if we had, that could have been pretty gross for the other table. Inappropriate. My table's sashimi appetizer was disgusting. The salmon sashimi was literally the worst-cut salmon sashimi I've ever seen in my life. I've uploaded a picture for reference. My Yakisoba was also pretty bad. It was edible, but not good. It also included pineapple, which surprised me, since the menu indicated it included "Japanese vegetables." Our waitress was, in my opinion, very aware that we were dissatisfied with both the food and the service. We got our check, expecting that she had taken something off in compensation, but she hadn't. During this entire time, my other party members and I were complaining about the food and the service. At the end, we finally asked for the manager, who had actually been within earshot (behind the bar) the entire time. My father reiterated that we didn't want anything taken off the ticket, but that we would never come back. The manager gave us a half-hearted, generic apology, and we left. I would absolutely avoid going to this restaurant if you're looking for Asian food on the Northshore. Covington's Megumi is much, much better.

Been here multiple times with my wife; she loves the specialty rolls. I typically order an entree (not recommended). Most of the other reviewers have hit the nail on the head: good food, especially their specialty rolls, but the service and "experience" are bad. Certainly, the same meal costs quite a bit less at Megumi, a superior sushi place in the Northshore area, but Tchoupstix is in a convenient location off Brewster across from the Pinnacle shopping complex on 21. So it behooves my family and I to go to Tchoupstix, but not necessarily for superior Japanese cuisine.

I've been here quite a few times and here's my synopsis. Positive: The food is good, I ordered the miso soup and seaweed salad for appetizers and the crunchy rolls and spider rolls for main dish. No problems with the food, except one of the people with me ordered crab soup and there was no crab at all in the soup. He questioned the waitress & she was clueless, so she went to ask the manager about it. He wouldn't come talk to us...instead he relayed this message "if you don't like the soup, I'll take it off the bill". Um, I think the manager should *ALWAYS* address the customer himself if there's a problem! We just wanted to know why crab soup had no crabs in it as stated on the menu. Another Negative: the staff is rude and unprofessional. It takes forever to get your food if they're busy. Osaka is way better if your want good food AND pleasant service.

Take out experience was awful. Tempura appetizer 9 bucks for about 4 vegetables and shrimp. Sushi was good but looked like a pile of i don't care. They obviously don't care about repeat business. Servers look at you as you stand at the host stand then ignore you, hostess basically waves you off to the bar, bartender drinks what looked to be a Vodka Cranberry. 40 minutes for take out order to arrive with about 3 tables in the restaurant. Oh and they charge you for the take out boxes. If you like crap service with pretty good food then this place is for you. With the number of good Sushi places in Covington and Mandeville, go back I will not.

What a great little find! Situated in an unassuming strip mall near Target, we finally gave it a try and will definitely return. The place itself is nice in a hip uptown nola kind of way... Young wait staff and upbeat music with cool, funky decor. But the real treat is the sushi. Everything we ordered was great. First, the miso soup... So much better than the free saltwater you get at other sushi places. So good you'll forget they don't bring you a hot rag (my only gripe). We had an incredible dumpling appetizer as well as a fried chicken dish off the non-sushi menu. Both were worth getting again. We also ordered two sushi rolls and sashimi (smoked salmon). All of it was delicious and ingredients seemed very fresh. There is nothing worse than bad sushi, but you don't have to worry about that here. Another thing we liked was our waitress could actually tell us what was in some of the rolls we had questions about. Service was good and there was plenty enough wait staff. Overall I would definitely recommend and this will probably become our go-to sushi place since Osaka West has had so many problems with service lately.

Great food and great staff. The Miso soup is thebest I've ever had. Not the dirty dishwater you normally get! Definitely check out the special rolls too. The Dancing Roll is one of my favorites but the Paradise Roll is a favorite for most. The place to sit is at the bar and let, Clay, the Bartender entertain you.

Horrible Experience!! 6 of us (4 adults, 2 children), decided to give Tchoupstix a try. We arrived at around 7 on a Friday night. There was a good crowd, but we were seated immediately. We were seated in a large booth with a TV in it (a definite plus for the kids). When we sat down Law and Order: SVU was on (less than desirable for a couple of Nickelodeon watching kids). We asked the hostess to change it and POOF!!! Never to be seen again. Finally, after about 7-8 minutes a waitress came to the table to ask for our drink order. She then disappeared for another 5-7 minutes. During her absence I took it upon myself to write out entire order down on the "Sushi checklist" to expedite the process. We ordered 6 different rolls, 3 salads and one kids meal all of which came with a bowl of soup. Once she decided to come back, I presented her with our selections and off she went on her next adventure! After waiting about 10 minutes 1 salad came by itself. When she brought it, we asked about the soup to which she responded "We are making it, it will be a few minutes". At this point we were also able to have TV changed, luckily for us, the kids only had to watch 2 murders! After another 5-7 minutes the soup came out. When we were just about done with the soup, the last 2 salads came. About the time that we finished up the salads, the first 4 rolls came. The rolls were rolled very tight and very tasty. Shortly there after, the 5th roll (a slightly modified California roll for my daughter) arrived and one of the kids was eating! We were still missing 1 roll and the "Dino" nuggets for my youngest daughter. After another 5-7 minutes of our waitress hiding from us, we inquired into our remaining food. At this point she decided to tell us that they were out of the "Dino" nuggets and they had run to the store to get some for her! When we asked her why she had not informed us of this so that we could pick something else, she replied "I just found out, It's not my fault!!! Do you still want them?" to which we responded "Our daughter needs to eat something!!!" and she walked away. She quickly returned with the last of the rolls (all of the other food was gone at this point). FINALLY, after another 5-6 minutes, the chicken had arrived! GREAT...Not soo much. We were delivered a plate of what appeared to be re-fried Chicken McNuggets!!!! At this point we had enough! We asked to speak to the manager and off she went again. After waiting another couple of minutes, she returned to tell us that they would remove the chicken from our bill (how generous) but the manager was very busy at the sushi bar and could not come to the table right now, but if we wanted to go over there we could!!!! REALLY, too busy to come to a table and speak to a guest???? The shame of the whole thing is that the food was actually quite good, but I have never seen service like this.

Great Sushi and love the atmosphere. Even my wife, who does not eat sushi, found some nice selections on the menu. Everyone enjoyed their meal.

On a trip down home, to louisiana.... it's only fitting we eat sushi...right? That makes sense. So the fam and my bestie went to tchoupstix and had a nice lil evening delight! The miso soup was mi-so-salty, but decent. I had the fried tofu, and it was blasay to say the least... poor presentation. The service, however, was fantastic. Our waiter even interjected into our conversation to tell us about the Saints game, as if we didn't know they had lost. The table was generally impressed with their hand roll selection and they did have some non traditional rolls that looked wonderful and judging by the reactions and the fact that not a single grain of fried tempura was left on the plates, that they were all together yum! Also, at each of the tables there were tvs for you to watch whatever you fancy on local cable networks. We chose the face to face communication route as I haven't seen these folks in a month full of Sundays! I definitely will return to this lil Sushi spectacle provided they lay off the Salt!
