I really wanted to like this place, but sadly found it underwhelming. I wanted fresh rolls but they were not on the menu. To be fair they did make them for me, saying that they only made them on request because they were too time consuming and the kitchen could not cope if they were on the menu. This was a little odd. I also ordered egg rolls and found them greasy and tasteless. My main dish was chicken curry. This was small with a meager side of what was supposed to be shrimp fried rice, but there were no shrimp to be found. The taste was okay, but I've had much better and found the portion size way too small. I don't expect to leave hungry. All in all just average and probably won't return.

Except for the drive...Drove all the way from MS( coast area) to this restaurant in Covington. Worth the drive!! Food is great, prices are just right! :-).

Dishes with vegetables are basically tasteless. Got fried shrimp and vegetables. Not quality fried shrimp. Vegetables were cooked Ok but no real flavor to the sauce. Wife had Moo Goo Gai Pan. Same problem, good white meat but tasteless. Only way to make it better is soy sauce. No salt on tables. For lunch the Mandarin Chicken was good Very nice ambiance. Waitress we had was beyond super.

I had the Pho Ga with Vegetables, the best I've had anywhere. Great service, nice atmosphere. It's a Gem!

It was okay. Not for me. For years when I pass this place it seemed to always be closed. Today was Thursday lunch and I was nearby so I had to see and it was open and we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table at 12:45. Now that I've tried it. I can honestly say that if you want authenticity you will not get it here. As my husband puts it...this is buffet food but prearranged for you in the kitchen. Well, I guess it could have been horrible.

This place has the BEST hot & sour soup I've ever had! My current favorite is the Empress Pork, which is like sweet and sour pork but with a kick. I'm also a fan of their lemongrass chicken. My husband is a very picky eater and he loves their honey chicken, lemongrass chicken, and LOVES their egg rolls. Service is always great too! They have awesome lunch specials so you can expect a crowd at lunch. I often call ahead and order take out. They always get my order correct and are fast. My only complaint is that they are not open on Sundays or Mondays.

This might be the best (and only) place in the Mandeville/Covington area that serves Pho. I've been a number of times but I've never tried anything other than the Pho so I'm not sure how the rest of the menu fares.

This is hands down the best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. The food is consistent, fresh, hot, and the portions are large. The time can take awhile but that's because everything is made fresh to order. This is a great place if you're not in a super rush. If you want Chinese buffet speed and quality go to a buffet.

I have been going to this place since it opened and one thing I can count on is a wonderful experience from the friendly servers to the consistent quality of the food. I gave it 5 stars because they have earned it in what they do:) You will not be disappointed going to them at all. Prices are good serving sizes are on the large side .

My office goes there about once every other week for lunch. Always good food & good service. Prices are in line & the quantity is generous (the females in the group always have leftovers for the next day or 2. Only wish they would switch up the daily specials because we go there on the same day of the week &/or have moo shoo pork just because I have been craving it lately.

I came to this restaurant thinking that the food was going to be good, what a disappointment; the pho was barely warm and not that much flavor at all, also the steak was so little even thou I ask for an extra portion of meat, the bean sprouts were old. Simply put dot not get any Vietnamese food in this place cause it sucks. Not even worth to put a pic.

This place rocks!!! The pho is by far the best on the Northshore and the family that runs the place makes sure everyone is well taken care of. The summer rolls are so tasty and fresh. The staff is very helpful so branch out and try some of the great Vietnamese dishes. Great iced tea too!!! Enjoy!!!

Northshore Empress is a Chinese and Vietnamese restaurant that blows Trey Yuen out of the water! This may have not been the case 5 or 10 years ago but if you haven't noticed, Trey Yuen isn't nearly as good as it used to be. Try this place out if you agree. They have a great selection of both Chinese and Vietnamese food and everything I've tried has been great. The sauces are homemade which is uncommon these days. Go for lunch and you'll be out before you know it. They have cheap lunch specials and the portions are generous.

Great chinese food. Phenomenal sweet sour soup. Loved the fried egg rolls too. Make sure to try the Sweet Romance with honey sauce on the side. Will come again.

4 stars is due here thanks to their emphasis on quality ingredients, no use of flavor enhancers (according to the waitress, and my tastebuds) and the fact that they are one of two restaurants on the northshore to serve Chinese and Vietnamese with this level of quality. I will be back.

I love that this place has Vietnamese and Chinese food. I have always had great food here with service to match. Ask your server questions and don't be afraid to be adventurous.

If you haven't tried this restaurant, you're missing out on a great Chinese/Vietnamese meal! The food is extremely good, servings are big (some dishes are large enough to split between two people), service is pleasant and efficient, prices are beyond reasonable. Best egg roll I've ever had! The restaurant is beautiful...casual but very nice, and always clean. If you go at lunch time the place will be packed, but there's usually not a long wait. Tight parking in the lot at peak times. Definitely recommend this place!

For me to give an establishment 2 stars, the experience must have had to been bad. First off I was only in Covington/Mandeville hood because I was out there visiting my aunt. Along with my 2 aunts was my mom and when my mom goes out to eat, I want to make sure she is receiving good service and the food is good. Anyways, we came at lunch, it was really busy, which is great for the restaurant itself. My reason for coming here was because the menu had Vietnamese food and I wanted my aunt, who I was visiting, to eat something Vietnamese since it's been over 15 years since she's probably had any viet cuisine. At any rate, the food was expensive for the amount served and it wasnt even good. Yea, you right, I wont be coming back. I have to be super desparate in order to come back to this particular establishment. The service was good despite it being rush hour. Our waittress did not understand our order. We wanted to order an entree and not a lunch special but when the food appeared a lunch plate with an extra portion came out. It was disappointing because my mom and aunt were hungry and they were planning to share the entree with an order of rice. I ordered a mix veggie plate. For what the price was you would think they would give your egg rolls and fried rice with the lunch special but the damn place is so cheap they give you plain fried wontons and white rice. My aunt had a vermecilli dish which came with shrimp---for what they charged the crispy rolls should have came with it but instead they charged $3 for supposedly 3 mini rolls....the big disappointment was that it barely had any vermecilli in the damn bowl. Overpriced and not enough food for the price you are paying. I can go in the hood to a corner store and get better food than this damnit. For friggin chinese food for 4 people at lunch time the bill came to $58 dollars. WTF???? My aunt and I just said never ever again. Never again yall heard me. Aint even worth the ride. Credit and cash, parking on sides and front. Lunch gets pretty packed

Favorite Chinese on the northshore. Ate there again tonight. Food was excellent. Reason for 4 stars, rather than 5 was: 2 of the 4 of my party were served with a lag of almost 10 minutes before the other two served. Would like vegetarian Chinese options (only vegetarian options are pho).

My family and I went here on Saturday night. The food wad good but the service was terrible. It took forever for the food to start arriving. When the food did start to show up, it came out one at a time. There were five of us at the restaurant. It was probably 20 minutes between the time the first and last plates arrived. No apologies or explanation was offered. There are too many good restaurants in Mandeville / Covington to waste your time here.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
