Got shrimp po-boys-shrimp were tiny, too salty and the seasoning was not good. Mayo on only one side, so it was dry, no tomatoes and the length of the bread was not that large. At 10.99 and 11.99 ($1 extra for take-out) way too expensive. Wish I would have known about the extra charge for take-out, gave $3 tip, on top of the surcharge. Mandeville Seafood on Hwy. 59 is soooo much better-and only $8.99.

On our road trip to Florida, we stopped at Acme for lunch. We ordered raw and chargrilled oysters, shrimp étouffée, and a couple of po boys. The chargrilled oysters was something new that we had never tried before and were delicious. We've eaten at numerous Cajun restaurants in Texas, and the food at Acme is definitely better, but when compared with other New Orleans restaurants serving Cajun fare, I would rate their food in the middle of the pack

Got the roast beef po boy. Taste was good but the consistency of the meat was not appealing. It was like mush. Would not buy again. Service was fair.

This is an oyster house. In fact this is the best oyster house I have ever been to. The oyster bar is fantastic. I had some of the " regular" food and it was nice.....but if you need to look at the menu then you miss the charm of this place. Grab a seat at the bar, Order you a dozen on the half shell, Grab a cold one....and you will see what I mean. Love this place.

My experience with the food quality was OK. The service was very good. The place is nice. Best part of the meal were the oysters and that is why you go there. Anything else is just OK. Not a great beverage selection but again, go for the oysters and you will be happy.

First time we went it was not bad. Food was okay and service was slow but decent. Today this place is horrible for service, food is okay. It takes forever to get your food and the place isn't even busy. I mean 45 minutes to get a salad and waited 20 minutes just to have to get up and walk to kitchen to ask if I could get a refill on my coffee. Totally unacceptable that your waitress doesn't come by and EVER check your table. Avoid the pregnant waitress if you dare come here.

Food is excellent! Came in a month that had an"r" in it so I had the raw oysters. Cold, salty and delicious. Only complaint is the hostess who is very inattentive but once you get seated it won't matter. Good potato salad and the seafood Is fried in yellow corn flour instead of corn meal. Crispy and light!

This restaurant had been around for a long time in this area which means they have totally nailed the lick cuisine. This place has a great selection of favorite New Orleans entrees. The staff was friendly and were prompt with their service.

My table shared 2 large orders of oysters. They were delicious! I ordered a Fried Fish Ponchartrain. It was pretty good but after a while it became too rich and I could not enjoy it anymore... but I'm willing to try other things on their menu if we ever go back.

The chargrilled oysters were divine. Will definitely be back if I'm ever in Covington again. A dozen made a full meal. Also had a side salad. The balsamic dressing has really good flavor. My friend enjoyed the gumbo.

Great food! Good service! Fast friendly! Satisfied my craving for chargrilled oysters ! They were delicious ! The gumbo was fantastic! My friend had the shrimp po boy also an excellent choice

The Covington location of Acme is great. Formerly located in downtown Covington (where Buster's is now), Acme is locate right on the main highway through the Northshore. This location was built to be Acme, but is still on the small side. It does seem to get packed where a larger restaurant could have accommodated more, but I digress. Acme serves great food. I have yet to have something that I didn't like and my most recent trip was no exception. My favorites include the fried shrimp platter, seafood gumbo and their po-boys. All of the fried items are cooked perfectly. One note about the po-boys: If you get a loaf, it comes with butter and pickles. Ask for it to come dressed. I don't know why that isn't a default setting, but I don't make the rules. I have been told their char broiled and raw oysters are wonderful, but I refuse to try them. If you're looking for an all around good seafood restaurant, give Acme a try.

I have been to the three, that I know of, iterations of this once great restaurant. For the second consecutive occasion at this location, the staff seemed overwhelmed by what amounts to a half-filled restaurant and a little more than fast food. The char-grilled oysters were arid, perhaps due to the fact that they may have sat under a heat lamp for twenty minutes, were ordered as an appetizer and arrived five minutes after the entrees were eventually served, and at almost $20 for very small oysters that seemed to have shrunk and dried I was quite disappointed. My son's sandwich was good, they still do fried pretty good, but my oysters Rockefeller soup was cold and bland. I won't be disappointed by this place again anytime soon--there are too many better choicesw.

I always heard their charbroiled oysters were to die for... AND THEY REALLY ARE!!!! Great food... Great service... Great atmosphere.

The seafood menu is excellent including the fry fish and oysters. My family and I ate there while we visited. The staff has excellent southern hospitality.

Solid Louisiana cruisine. Obviously a shorter line than ACME off bourbon st., actually no line.

You will be sorry!!! At first, I was ready to walk out. It took the server over 10 minutes to get to my table!! And it was not crowded so what gives!!! The onion rings were homemade, hot, and cooked perfectly, My chargrilled oysters look good and smelled good due to my table was close to the grill BUT it took over 4 minutes before it was actually walked to me!! The chargrilled oysters were GREAT!!! Large with their yummy sauce on them. Just a good flavor with oysters. I left after yet more waiting for my server to arrive. Even thought the food was good, I would never recommend this place because of the very poor service!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

I rarely write reviews. That being said, my parents live a few minutes away and every time I come home I go there each day. The beer selection is lacking compared to Chimes BUT the oysters here are bigger and better. The food is your traditional Louisiana seafood and it is delicious. It doesn't get too loud and crazy unless it's a game day so it's, in my opinion, one of the best places to eat if you want to eat Louisiana styled seafood.

  • John T.

Charbroiled oysters and boiled shrimp were delicious. Beer was ice cold and the service was superb. Only poor marks were the gumbos, neither of which is made by the restaurant. Way too much salt and okra was undercooked. Otherwise, a great meal.

Great food, excellent service, Acme is a great stop when getting good in the bayou! I ordered the Abita Andygator on tap and it came out in a HUGE goblet fit for a king. For dinner, I ate their crawfish po boy with a side of jambalaya. Both hit the spot wonderfully :) their desserts looked incredibly appetizing but I unfortunately did not have much room after the beer, po boy, and jambalaya.

I have been going to Acme for years and year. I love the one in New Orleans so when I was in Covington for work I thought I would give this one a try. I figured it wouldn't be as good, but I was really upset of the quality of oysters. Even the way they were shucked was a disappointment. There were a ton of shells in my oysters. I love gulf oysters but the quality of these was off. I also had the etouffee and it was really good so I at least left full. The service was okay but that's similar to the other locations I've experiences. I go here for the oysters though and that was definitely lacking this last time.

This was hands-down the best restaurant we ate at while we were in Louisiana. I ordered a fish and shrimp combo, my friend ordered a small bowl of gumbo and the steamed oysters (which were the best oysters I have ever had in my life), my fiancé ordered the jambalaya, and my other friend ordered a po boy sandwich. We were all sharing with each other and it was all delicious. The waitress was extremely friendly and came to the table often to check on us. If you are in Louisiana I would highly recommend this restaurant.

  • John M.

Charbroiled oysters where tiny. The fried shrimp in the sandwich tasted like frozen shrimp that I buy from Sam's Club complete with slime layer. When you ask for fried fish, they served some sort of fish that I haven't heard of before. Very disappointed!

It doesn't get any better! Eating at the bar watching Brandon shuck oysters is a real treat! You gotta do it!

  • Z O.

I hated to give them 1 star but the specials we got today was just the worst ever, it was the grilled drum, yuck is an over statement, we told our waitress about how rubbery it was and no one offered to do anything about it, where has the quality gone? Please help if someone can suggest where I can get good fish? It was so rubbery that a steak of any kind, maybe a roast would have been more tender, I know right? asking for a tender fish? It was HORRIBLE! I will post pictures next.

Our first time at Acme while visiting friends in Mandeville. Sat at the oyster bar and watched the oysters being opened and grilled and had some raw and some grilled. Great both ways but we'll probably go with raw from now on! You experience the oyster more when it's raw. Tried the oyster Rockefeller which sounded great on paper but the only oyster in it was the small fried one that they put on top. Otherwise it's cream of spinach soup. Won't do that again. Had a catfish/shrimp plate and the fried food was fantastic. The cocktail sauce had a great horseradish kick! A couple of Abita's (Andygator and Amber) and we were happy!

    (4)
  • Brandi F.

They are not really open until 10 so beware their websites lie, as well as the time on yelp. Their food is great though. We really wanted to eat there tonight and are now searching out any place that has oysters as good as theirs.

  • Noanya S.

I love Acme and can frequent everyday when in the area...I usually go to the one in Metarie and this was my first time at this location....they can get packed but that is not unusual for Acme, we had about a 30 minute wait....try an Abita Amber some charbroiled oyster, raw oysters and crab claws and you will be happy...I was a little thrown that they ran out of napkins and crystals hot sauce, who runs out of these things but overall good meal and experience

Great meal here tonight! Have been to the original location in French Quarter several times but not this outpost. Sat in the bar with first pre season football games so a good start! Started with oysters. Both the raw and grilled. Brandon was a master shucker. Both were fantastic but I personally love them raw. The grilled are cooked with butter and grated cheese and served with french bread. Rich and decadent. For dinner shared the Medley which has gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice, along with a sausage. Really good to try three classic dishes. Good stuff. Also had the Seafood Etoufee with fried crawfish on the top. The etoufee was amazing. A fantastic dish especially with the crawfish added. Not the same ambiance as eating in the Quarter location but food is every bit as good. Great stuff. Wish I had room for a Po Boy. Next time!

  • Nicole C.

This Acme location is preferable to the one in New Orleans. They have more items on their menu, AND there's no ridiculous wait times or lines. The quality of food and service are also better. I thought the raw oysters in the city location were muddy and gritty, the oysters here are much cleaner! If you're in the area and want to check out the famous Acme Oyster House, go to this one and skip the one in the city.

  • Stan H.

Boring food, I expected some creativity in local offerings but this fell short. the gumbo, shrimp, Andouille sausage, and rice and beans were very bland, the beer was flat, as in no carbonation, the prices were moderate to pricey for the offerings. staff was attentive and friendly and the place was clean. so overall a disappointment

  • Caitlin C.

I went here with my mother back in the winter for raw oysters and beer. The oysters were good. I can't remember what entree I got right now but I think I remember the oysters were definitely the highlight. We should go back and try the chargrilled.

Moved back to La. and was looking forward to a great meal at Acme. The oysters and also the shrimp were very mushy. (like wet bread) Told the waitress and all she said was she could take the meals back and re-fry them. What's with that??! VERRRRRY sad meal and a big disappointment!! (So much for a place that prides themselves on oysters.) WON'T BE BACK!!!!!!!

  • Cameron K.

I love this place! Usually great service and a solid place to get your oyster fix! They have fried seafood and poboys as well. I'm a huuuuge fan of their chargrilled oysters, however their "10 napkin roast beef poboy" doesn't live up to the name. But I'm super picky when it comes to my roast beef.

I come here for two things. The patron margarita and chargrilled oysters. They are pretty consistent and delicious. Service is usually very good. I have learned to eat fillers like onion rings and crab claws to prevent me from ordering 3 dozen chargrilled oysters. I only explored the dinner menu once and I was not impressed. However, oysters is what they do best.

Does not live up to all the hype. The Covington location does a disservice to the entire chain. We stopped for lunch on our way home from a long roadtrip. With 4 adults and 4 kids, the hostess wanted to stuff us all in a table that would barely fit 6 kids. She got pissy when we asked to have the empty table next us moved over so we could have more room for the food we were goimg to order. For a chain that gets so much free publicity from the food channels, you would think they would be able to attract better employees. On to the waitress, we ordered 4 dozen oysters. She serves our table by putting the oysters on one side of the table and the appetizer plates on the opposite side. WTH? The oysters were big and plump. It's a shame the first 2 service staff we encounter tried to do all they could to ruin the meal and experience. The "peace maker" po boys we ordered were nothing special. They were very bland....no flavor whatsoever. Hopefully, Acme management sees this review and corrects the problems. We will not be back and would not recommend this location.

Place was packed and we were seated exactly in the time frame given (35 minutes). Acme was recommended from someone who visited years ago and it did not disappoint. Food was excellent and oysters were fantastic. Service was top notch and will be back.

  • Malcolm B.

Delicious meal, they're not skimpy and know how to to do it the New Orleans way. The shrimp po-boy was delicious and overflowing with shrimp, seafood gumbo was also fantastic, as well as the atmosphere.. We're just passing through on the way to Texas. But my mom is from New Orleans so we go very often. Definitely recommend

  • Megan P.

My husband and I ordered the Captain Mike's seafood platter. It was more than filling and so delicious! The craw puppies were amazing, the fish was fried perfectly, and the shrimp was flavorful. We also ordered a side of onion rings which were equally as delectable as the main entree'.

Food was Service was fair. Food was salty. Only thing we like was the oysters it was the least salty food

The hostess was delightful...EVERYTHING else was kind of awful, service, marinated shrimp, soggy salad and really weird mushrooms

Don't waste your time! Bland "Cajun" fare and lackluster service staff that apparently has better things to do. If you're looking for a disappointment, here's your place!

  • Tabitha C.

The chargrilled oysters are a must!!! They are delicious! We ordered the oysters as an appetizer. I had a shrimp poboy as my main dish and it was very good. My boyfriend ordered a pasta dish and it looked good. I didn't try his dish. Also the service was pretty good. There was a 30 min wait but we expected that for a Friday night.

    (5)
  • Wadcutter ..

Food good. Service sucks. The manager would screw up directing a 1 car funeral. 8 empty tables & a 20 minute wait. 6 waiters at a time standing around the check in booth. Manager standing around or walking between kitchen & check in. No reason for up to 8 tables setting empty with a lobby full of standing people. When we were finally seated they put us at 1 of the tables that had been sitting empty. Fire the manager & hire someone competent.

    (1)
  • Elena M.

What a dump! Crowded, noisy, dirty, unpleasant place with low quality food. All the food is prepared in advanced and heated up to the order. so when it makes up on the table it is almost cold and looks like one big ball of something. Soups are way over-salted. Fresh oysters are tasteless. Don't waste your money and time in here and go to "Don's Bar" instead.

    (1)
  • Ashley C.

Delicious food and pretty good service too! The poboys are soooo good. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because its a bit over priced. Definitely recommend!

    (4)
  • Phillip P.

Mediocre at best. I'd give em 2 stars but I have sentimental feelings for their down town location ... No longer serving local catfish and the sausage was salty and red beans were bland. Disappointing.

  • Heather P.

While I didn't sample a ton of items the few that I did were very good. Charbroiled oysters were spot on. Nice sizes, cheese and garlic served with some bread to soak up the juices, yummmmers! Also tried the bacon wrapped shrimp. They come with a balsamic dipping sauce that was really good. The shrimp were slightly overcooked. Our server was super attentive and very friendly and accommodating. Will for sure be back to try a few more of their items.

A new Cajun favorite for me! The location in Covington is perfect for skipping around N.O., and wow. We showed up right as ACME was opening that day - FIRST CUSTOMER!!! The atmosphere is nice and relaxed - open with a few TVs showing ESPN / sports. It's got that good ole "sports bar n grill" feel. Servers were nice, service was good. But we're here for the FOOD, aren't we?! OK OK, so we came to ACME Oyster House... and didn't get oysters... whatchagonnado? We had: Fried crawfish - some of the best i've had! Gumbo - nice and thick with rice on top - pretty good stuff Etouffee - my favorite! The flavor has a great kick - perfect ratio of roux to rice! The portion sizes here were good - not too much - but we left satisfied. (I left thinking - "hmm - i COULD have ordered 2nds.... it was that good... but i would PROBABLY regret doing that... Definitely coming back if we're in the neighborhood!

A nice link in the regional chain. Very good traditional New Orleans food. The char-grilled oysters should be experienced by all humans at least once before their death. Also noteworthy is the "10 Napkin Roast Beef Po-Boy". Yeah, it's messy - slow cooked roast beef in a slightly spicy gravy on crust N.O. french bread. Get it fully dressed! Yeah it's messy! Yeah it's good! In fact it's all good...

The char grilled oysters are absolutely awesome. Ate two dozen between two of us. Smoked sausage & gumbo was great as well no complaints at all. I'll definitely be going back next time i'm in LA.

Ive been there several times, once while it was very busy and once today. The grilled oysters are great...I also had the crawfish etoufee which was pretty yum itself. I'd go there again and again......and again

The first experience having oysters wasn't good so I was hesitant to getting oysters here so I got a cob salad, which was bigger than I expected yet very fresh and good. My friends who I was visiting for the weekend love Acme and oysters so they ordered their oysters. One had raw oysters while the other had char grilled. I tried a char grilled oyster after all our food arrived and wished I had order some of those for myself! I never knew they were good cooked, since the raw oysters just aren't my thing. We sat in the bar area since there were a bunch of kids in the dining area of the restaurant, looked like a sports team. The bar was empty since it was close to closing yet the waitress was nice and provided great service. Whenever I go back down to visit these friends I will have make sure I come here for some char grilled oysters!

Great fried food, try the craw pups. had the crawfish po-boy, tried the gumbo, oysters and various other fried things. All the types of sauces were great, especially the honey/horseradish sauce. All items were good and tasted as expected. The interior was ok, nothing fancy. The service was good, the girls were nice friendly and they seemed to have the right amount of staff for the amount of customers. I'd go again for sure.

They are no longer on Boston, now on Hwy 190, in the old Boule's. I liked the Boston location better, but it's still a good place for the traditional New Orleans seafood restaurant experience. We (my husband and daughter) love their gumbo and each time I make gumbo I am trying to replicate their's. Also, the grilled oysters are yummy and I am not a big oyster fan. The grilling dries them out a little, but not too much, they are just not, you know, raw and squishy) and they are super garlicky and the sprinkle of parmesan cheese is nice and bubbley.

Went here again the other night and the service was excellent. Food has always been good and the prices are reasonable. Good Roast Beef Po-Boys and of course the oysters are excellent.

I'll write my review for Acme but I'll be comparing it to Buster's Place. The only reason we even got to try Acme was because Buster's Place, which is only 5 minutes away in downtown Covington was already closed for the night. I'll be honest, I am not a huge fan of oysters. Well, the night before, Buster's actually turned me around. Raw oysters there were so firm and fresh that I actually liked them. They also served 2 separate sauces with raw oysters - a cocktail sauce and a horseradish sauce and you could mix those to your liking. Considering that we are from Atlanta, GA, where oysters are usually never that huge or that fresh, I wanted to have oysters the second night as well. Unfortunately, we were a little too late and Buster's was already closed (they close at 8pm on Sundays). We were in no mood to go back to the hotel, so we decided to try Acme (open till 10pm). Well, their oysters were also big, and I can't say they were bad, but they were less firm, so, overall, I didn't like them. Also, their cocktail sauce already had a lot of radish in it, which was okay for raw oysters but tasted horrible with fried shrimp and fried oysters that we also ordered. Other than the sauce, fried shrimp and oysters were somewhat similar both at Acme and Buster's, although I would still choose Buster's because of less breading. We chose to substitute french fries for sweet potato fries for an extra $1 at Acme and, I think, it was a good choice. We loved the sweet potato fries. In case someone will go to Buster's after reading this review - don't bother to order etouffee or red beans and rice, stick to the seafood, which is great there. Cajun staples like etouffee and red beans and rice which we ordered on the side were mediocre at best. To try those, take a trip to Mother's in NOLA.

We sat at the bar so I can't really comment on the table service. the food was very good. I had the 10 napkin Roast Beef Po-boy and it was delicious. The bread was exceptional plus it had tons of meat. It was pretty messy but so yummy. My husband had the Seafood Etoufee over rice. He liked it a lot. The main dining room reminds me of an old timey pizza parlor with red and white checkered tablecloths. It was very nice.

Brandon the super shucker was on duty! Great little bar with good drinks. We started off with 6 shucked oysters. Their homemade sauce was very tasty and had quite the bite. I had the étouffée with crawfish tails. Both were very good and just enough. Overall experience was very casual and quiet. Small place and don't look for romance here. Just good people who serve good food and good drinks.

The service here was excellent, and the food was very good...I had fried oyster platter. Oysters were deep-fried crispy on outside, tender on inside perfection...Good selection of draft beers served in ice-cold goblets...definitely an experience to be repeated!

For a real treat have some oysters at the bar. Chucked in front of you fresh from the box from the dock. Raw or BBQ -- they are fantastic.
