The service overnight at Gerald is amazing. Upbeat positive service. During the day there are three waitresses and the service sucked balls. I mean seriously there are only 13 people to serve and you're having trouble? Need I say train more on customer service cause your day crew are not cutting the slack. The food still overall is okay. Not the greatest but when you want food that's fairly decent but priced great then you can't complain. As for the speed of the food getting to you...... hell can freeze over faster.

why all the geralds hate??? They have good chicory coffee and they have fresh donuts and a drive thru, which I've never actually used. It's way more fun to sit inside. I've had a lot of odd experiences here, including two servers and multiple patrons trying to help my friends and I jump our car off at 4 am (it worked). There's a wide variety of people coming and going; a judges sitting next to cops sitting next to convicts kind of place. They also have gambling machines, of course. Open 24/7 and the menu is kind of like Waffle House but far more extensive. I usually stick to the egg platters in the AM but every once in a while i go crazy and get steak and eggs ($10.99!) To the reviewer who made the "server looked like she was on drugs" comment...I kinda agree. Lol I've seen one or two servers sucking down redbull from straws and then they run around like crazy people and sometimes forget things (dunno if it's just the redbull or what). I think it's awesome.

My SO and I came here for dinner after a loonnng day of driving. We ordered 6 burgers and 6 hot sausage sliders, as well as onion rings and a donut (blueberry). The donut was just delicious. The onion rings were, well good onion rings. The burgers were decent... lots of onions. Too many onions. And the hot sausage sliders were delicious. The staff was friendly and jovial, and the cook came out and apologized for our food not coming out at the same time, but it was only a few minutes. I've always loved Gerald's, and my love for them continues to grow.

I thought I would give Geralds another try, and they got worse. I ordered the deluxe breakfast with grits in a separate container and some donuts. I did the drive-thru since my wife and I were not feeling good. I didn't check my order, figured how much could they screw this order up. I get home open my container and they mixed the grits in and must have dropped it, everything was mixed together. Also the donuts were put in a bag, so they were crushed, I got 2 chocolate glazed that was on the bag. I called and got an generic apology. I really miss the awesome breakfast I use to get from there, not sure why every time I get food from here it's messed up. This was the last time, I gave them a couple times to make sure it wasn't just an off day.

Met and exceeded my expectations for a comfortable diner meal. The friendly and attentive staff were accommodating of special requests. The food was good, I enjoyed my breakfast biscuit and hash browns. Get there early if you like cake donuts, there was only one left :-)

Leave the negative reviews out of your mind. This local 24 hour spot services half the metro area with donuts (which they start pumping out fresh sometime after 4am). I love down the blocks these folks have satiated me more than once. If your hurting from the previous night, still loopy, need a solid breakfast or to satisfy the sweet tooth worth the stop. The service is on par, the ladies are great don't leave a bad review after you dropped a $1.00 and they didn't give you lagniappe the next time around. Proper local but with an accent and the right attitude were all still family

The service here is consistent. Consistently S L O W . Food is good diner food but takes an eternity to be prepared. I'd give the joint 5 stars if things were sped up and the guests not ignored.

  • Nicky P.

Drive thru is a good idea right? No. I've literally drove away 3 separate times on 3 different nights because the girls behind the counter couldn't handle me at the drive thru and 2 customers at the counter. So, drive thru is ignored. Like, waitress see me at the window. Makes eye contact. The. Never comes to window! I won't go back here, and rather drive the extra few minutes to Par 3. Better service and food.

Waited a hour and 45 minutes for a salad and a burger, paid for a bacon cheese burger and got a plain burger. They didn't give me the loaded sweet potato fries, went back for them, waited 30 minutes, then asked for money back and they o ly gave me money for regular fries. Never going there again. Horrible business people, and the waitress looked like she was on drugs.

Best donuts!!! Can't beat the cream filled holes if you're lucky enough to go there when they have some left.

I'm gonna be honest the food is bad... I usually just check in on yelp but I'm leaving a review this time because the bad reviews were so right! I got the breakfast special... scrambled eggs, xcrispy hashbrowns, crispy well bacon, and a biscuit. The eggs were crispy basically and brown for the most part. I couldn't even eat them. The hashbrowns were sent back and the second batch which still wasn't how I asked for them was thrown on top of the soft hashbrowns I got the first time! The bacon just barely qualified as two strips and the biscuit I'm pretty sure was microwaved because the bottom of it was still pretty soft. Do yourself a favor and don't even waist 3 dollars unless you completely can't cook or you get some donuts, I got a cinnamon roll and it was damn good. But for a $1.86 it had better be good for 1 Donut. Geralds and Richard L. Here's some advice... Fire that cook ASAP! And get someone in there who knows how to scramble some eggs, make crispy hashbrowns, and split the biscuit open! Butter both sides lightly and throw it on a pan or grill I promise your customers will love you for it! But I won't be one of them... I feel like I waited 2 hours for my food because I came home and had to recook what your cook couldn't do right the first time. Smh, Pictures will be in the tips for others to see but seriously as a former restaurant manager this place has potential but it is seriously a shame how bad it looked and how improperly it was prepared even for the price.

I can only figure the reviews are such to not let people know the place is really good. Not great but good solid food. A local place for locals, you're in NOLA where great food is everywhere for tourists. We stay in NOLA with friends in Holy Cross a week most years when we can. Started eating sometimes at Geralds to save money, we go back most mornings for the best biscuit and sausage. Very good pancakes too, tastes a lot like my own, sausage patties...mmmmm. Pancakes are huge, don't over order. Hamburgers are big and messy but just ok. Menu otherwise is not much choice but all solid for the money. Prices are good. Service for us is always great. Morning or early evening, doesn't matter, always friendly, if anything a bit too talkative for our taste but friendly, and good. Even get a free donut for the road now and then. Love these guys. The locals eating there are friendly too, never had a problem, always a good time.

Don't believe the negative reviews; Gerald's is awesome! During a trip to New Orleans my family and I ate here four times. FOUR. That's right people, this place is the bomb. I consider myself to be a donut connoisseur, and these were the best donuts I have ever eaten. There are some unusual flavor combinations: chocolate peanut butter, Boston creme with coconut. We tried a bunch and found that there is no bad donut from here. The holes were my personal favorite. You can get a bag and carry them with you for a snack while you wander around the French Quarter. We also ate a king cake from here. It was large, reasonably priced, and fresh. The only bad part was that I got the baby, so I'll have to buy the next one. In addition to sweets, we ate breakfast here twice. It was excellent food for an astoundingly low price. As for the waitresses, they are busy, but being from up north, that doesn't seem unusual to me at all. Our waitresses were attentive and took good care of us. There were a lot of regulars eating there, and the waitresses were cracking jokes with them. The only negative comment I have is that someone had obviously smoked some unfiltered cigarettes in the women's restroom. Nasty. But everything else was great.

  • Alice H.

The wait staff at Gerald's has mastered the ridiculously precise skill of leaving a patron sitting at a table, without coffee or even so much as a grunt of acknowledgment, for exactly one half second shorter than it would take the same patron to storm out in disgust. Seriously ladies, I can see you're busy, but I can't for the life of me figure out why a quick hello or even a coffee sweep of the restaurant is beyond your capabilities. If one of you would simply bring coffee around to all the tables, you'd all make more tips. Take turns. This actually works. Ugh. The two stars are for the convenience of the location and provided parking, decent donuts, and typical-diner greasy shredded hash browns, the latter of which I have a soft spot for. Further, the people watching in here is better than it should be. Donald Harrison happened to be eating here with a friend on my son's fourth birthday, and he sang happy birthday to him. Actually, the second star may be entirely for that particular experience. The sad thing is, despite the astronomically unlikely chance that Donald Harrison will ever sing to one of us there again, I know we'll be back because it's damn convenient, and my kids need donuts every once in a while

The donuts tasted nice and fresh at 2 in the afternoon. That's rather impressive. I had the glazed donuts and they had a nice, chewy texture of a good yeast donut with a glaze that balanced everything out.

This Gerald's is run by the same folks who ran the former Chalmette location (listed as CLOSED here on Yelp). My friends and I stopped by for some late night dining after the Found Footage Festival in Chalmette. I ordered a breakfast plate--I think it was called the Gerald's Special. It came with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and biscuits (I opted for no white gravy). I also ordered coffee. This food was truly awful. The hash browns were soggy, not crispy. The bacon was floppy (also not crispy) and so salty it burned my tongue. The biscuits were soft and... bouncy. Yes, bouncy is the best way to describe it. Not flaky like a biscuit should be. Maybe they were microwaved? I can't think of any other way for them to have developed such an unnatural texture. The only part of my breakfast that was somewhat normal were the scrambled eggs. Even my coffee tasted like tinny, burnt water. And my friends both got omelets which were obviously burnt and dry when they came out. I have heard that this is a favorite spot of St. Bernard Parish, but I can't understand why. Admittedly, I did not try the doughnuts, but they looked pretty standard. I've heard that Gerald's is known for their tiny burgers, but since the diner food I ate was so poor, I would never return to find out if they are worth the hype. I hope some St. Bernard residents chime in if they feel differently. Otherwise, I really have nothing good to say about the food here, though the server was nice and kindly offered to split our bill three ways.

Me and my vacation buddies came in here twice (once while waiting for the bus and once on our way home). We only picked up donuts so I can't speak to the quality of the food or the waitstaff. What I can say is that the donuts were moist and tasted fresh at 10:15am and at 1:00am!

  • Christian C.

The donuts are amazing and I was able to get hot glazed at 12pm. The service was great and quick ! Loved the atmosphere and the food. Will definitely be back!

  • Breanna M.

Donuts are good. terrible service though. Sitting at the counter and asked a waitress a question and before she would answer me she took care of 2 other people. As a waitress its kind of hard to not notice when people just don't care because I know how that feels sometimes. Bacon donuts are bomb though.

  • Chad G.

I have held back on this review for a while. This restaurant is blocks from my house and has excellent donuts and breakfast. I've never had their other menu items but I'm sure they are tasty as well. Because of this I have tolerated the terrible service and lack of cleanliness. I have no idea what their kitchen looks like but the exterior of the building is poorly maintained and the dining area is neglected. The wait staff is not attentive. I have stood at the donut counter for minutes without being acknowledged. I have heard the wait staff argue about whose table customers were sitting at. One particular waitress forgets to bring my drink after I place my order. Coffee refills? Forget it. The wait staff just can't get into a rhythm of table and counter service. They are often distracted by one another or the phone ringing or a guy that sits for hours at the end of the counter bugging them. I'll be giving the other location a shot because of their excellent breakfast choices. I hope they don't disappoint.

Do not get a kingcake from here. I wanted to bring a kingcake to work, I live around the corner from the Arabi Food Store and they use to sell Randazzo's kingcake. Well unfortunately they have none this year. I didn't want to go to work without a cake and since Gerald's is on my way I figured I get one from there. Wost idea ever. There large kingcake was $20, looked more like a medium. (Same size of Walmart's for $7) It was over priced, dry, and had no baby! Let's just say I was embarrassed that this was the kingcake I brought in to share with everyone at work. Even a Walamart kingcake is superior to this! I'm so disappointed! :(
