I really really like their food here (: We came in the afternoon and there wasn't really anybody there. The place is kind of dim and quiet. Everyone that was working there greeted us and our waiter was really nice. I had tortellini alfredo and it was probably some of the best alfredo sauce I've ever had. They also give you salad and bread. The bread was really good, and my boyfriend also liked his lasagna

Went here on a Saturday night with my family. Prices were great but food was so-so. I had veal that was not cooked well. The rest of my party wasn't very impressed with their food either. Plus, couldn't really tell who our server was. We had 2 or 3 visitors to our table throughout the evening and none of them were very efficient. Wine was great, though! I hope to return for a better experience!!

Maybe high standard in Alexandria, however interior was very old fashioned. The food was also not delicious, i tried Verona Special with chicken. Chicken didnt taste well. Personnel were very friendly though

If this place wasn't three hours away from me I'd eat here every weekend. The food is amazing, the chef comes out to check on you personally, and I love the atmosphere. Come here on a date like I did. You won't be disappointed.

The location is kind of romantic...good for date night. There's a bar. Frank Sinatra played. Staff were nice. The server was ok. She might want to learn a bit more about Italian food. I asked for the Italian Cheesecake, and was brought the NY cheesecake. I asked if it had ricotta in it and she had no idea. She looked into it and told me later that the ricotta cheese cake had ricotta in it (and yes folks, that would be the Italian cheesecake). My soda was not refilled.

My husband and I decided to check this place out. I was a little unsure because of some of the mixed reviews, but we are glad that we went. We arrived just after they opened for lunch (we do this to avoid the crowd and longer wait wherever we go) and was greeted and seated promptly. The fresh bread we were given was lovely. Not the plain dinner rolls you would get elsewhere. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms for and app to share. I have to say I think they were the best we've ever had! My husband ordered the chicken parm for his entrée, and I had the shrimp scampi. The portions were huge! And the food was great. The owner came by to speak to us and was a wonderfully friendly person. The service was excellent too. We will definitely be back soon.

Food is delicious. The shrimp scampi was awesome and the shrimp were huge! Definitely nice portions and a romantic atmosphere. Had an issue with the waitstaff but the owner was gracious and understanding. I'd recommend making reservations because it's always busy. Enjoy, ciao!

Nice, large selection of food and good portion sizes. The bread tasted a bit plain, but the baked ziti I ordered was good to the last bite. It took a while for our food to arrive, but I'll blame that on the place being pretty packed. The staff was friendly and our server was very attentive--she even spooked me once when she came from behind and asked if I needed a refill (better she haunts the table like a ghost than vanish like one I say). Definitely a place I'll eat at again.

Hi, I travel on business constantly and I have eaten at Verona's many times and have never been disappointed in the food. I eat there ever time I come to Alex...If you have a problem then all you have to do is ask for Tony the owner and he will make it right. Yes, some nights the service is radical, but the quality of the food is worth it. They are very polite and Monica, David and Giovanni are great people! The only thing I dislike is they don't serve garlic bread, but instead serve a homemade roll..... Sincerely, John Young Baton Rouge, La

3rd time was NOT the charm in this case. More like, 3 strikes and you're out. Once again we waited 15 min before a server ever approached our table. The food is hit or miss. I have been here at times when the food was fantastic...and others where it was barely edible. Tonight was a good night. Service was off tonight...which it seems to be most of the time. I'm not sure if they are just understaffed or if the staff is just incompetent, but it is frustrating. To give them credit, they are very kind and polite, they just seem extremely unorganized.

Living in Hawaii there are not many good restaurants around. I was spending they day with my baby sister and we wanted Italian and found this place. Every dish we tried was AMAZING!!!!! Even the fresh baked bread. I had the stuffed eggplant for my appetizer and the flavors just blew me away! My sister had the house salad with a tomato dressing which I thought she wouldn't like because she doesn't like veggies. To my surprised she loved it! Our entrees was even better! I would suggest the Verona special! And for the kids my sister loved the 1/2 lasagna. I can't wait to come back!

Outstanding service & food -and good atmosphere and fine background music! It was a "Quick in & out meal" of about 2+ hours. ;-) (BTW other tables came and went - service was fine - we just ate slowly, and talked, and drank the time away and enjoyed ourselves immensely.) Sure glad I am on vacation and the calories don't count - or I might still be there. Felt like I was on vacation in Italy again. David could not have been a better waiter - and as a former waiter I am picky about the service. NO! Do NOT bring more food or I WILL eat it! On the way back from vacation to Florida and stopped in Alexandria just because it was a convent place to stop. Next time I will stop just for dinner here. Even emailed a good friend in NJ during after dinner drinks this this was the Louisiana location of the family Italian resturant he had taken us to few years ago. Recommend it highly! (As a former waiter I know things can always go wrong but THIS is the sort of place I would have enjoyed working in and help make it go right.) Kudos to the owner (who came by to say hi) but I can't remember his name damn it. If you try it and it you have just half the meal and good time we had - it will have been well worth it.

Great food, good portion size. Our service was really fast this trip. (Had been a little slow on a previous trip). I love the stuffed mushrooms with Alfredo sauce. The lasagna and cheese ravioli entrees are also very good. Much better food and service than Carino's or Suburban Garden. This is definitely my go to for Italian in Alexandria.

We ate here on Saturday, August 10. This was our first time to eat here. We arrived at 7:00 pm and were going to an 8:45 movie. There were four of us. We ordered the garlic bread appetizer and it was approximately 30 minutes before we received it. After an hour, we still had not received our entrees. Management apologized and stated it was due to only one chef in the kitchen. Asked us to wait just a few minutes more. This explanation seemed a little thin as I watched several tables that arrived after us receive their food. Finally received our entrees with 10 minutes left to eat it. The food was good, the waitress was excellent, but management did not appear to take this problem seriously. The appetizer ended up being complimentary. This may have been a rare incident, but we will not risk it again.

Authentic Italian Restaurant. The staff (with their Italian Accents) are extremely nice and well-prepared. The dining area sits cramped, but the inside has dim lighting, soft music, etc. The menu includes the same items as Johnny Carino's, but it also includes Homemade Pastas, salads, desserts (Italian cheescake, Chocolate cheescake). A tossed salad is included with the entree' and there is also unlimited garlic buns that come with your order. The price is not bad ... you'll pay around $13.00 - $19.00 per person. The food is excellent (humongous shrimp included in your pasta). The restaurant is in the old Sammy's Steakhouse location, so the inside smells pretty old. Overall, this is a good location for a nice, casual/elegant restaurant. _________________ HOWEVER...on my Second visit here, I was with a big party (15 people). We came in the afternnon. The experience was one of the WORST restaurant experience I have ever had. I assume the staff was not prepared for a big party and this type of restaurant. The food took forever (as expected with big parties)...but the food was UNEATABLE!!! I literally had to send my plate (the typical spaghetti & meatballs) back to the kitchen. There was NO flavor, NO taste...absolutely horrible. How on EARTH can you mess up the most ORDINARY Italian dish ever invented???? Basically, do NOT bring a big party to this place and do NOT order the spaghetti & meatballs!

Very nice Italian restaurant newly opened in the previous Sammy's Steakhouse location. New owner has been in the business over 20 years. Nice selection. Chicken and seafood pastas. Very generous portions. Prompt and caring waitstaff. The food is excellent and the prices very good. Wonderful little bread knots. We can't wait to run through the complete menu. Open everyday except Monday. 11am-9pm Tue-Thur, til 10 Fri/Sat and closes at 8pm Sunday. Ample parking

Went here with coworkers. The coworkers got chicken parmesan which they seemed to think was ok. I got the tuna with wasabi. The tuna was very good - mostly rare, seared on the outside. It laid on a bed of obviously frozen, reheated spinach. Surrounding all of this was a generic tasting sweet, raspberry sauce that didn't really complement the tuna or spinach. The whole thing was sort of confusing and I wondered what happened to the wasabi. I ordered cheesecake for dessert, and it reminded me exactly of that kind that comes in sheets at buffet joints. So, overall, I wasn't really impressed.

If you want authentic Italian food at a great cost, this is the place. The portions are huge! The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because the service is hit and miss. I think it must depend on when you go. We recently went at lunch and it was very slow and we didn't seem to have a waiter. The hostess would check on us from time to time and our drinks were never refilled. However, I've gone here other times and not had that problem. The Chef is incredibly friendly and really knows what he's doing. To me, it's worth going just for the quality of the meals even if the service isn't always great. Lastly, let me just say...the dessert if out of this world!!! The Tiramisu is literally the best I've ever had in my life so make sure you save room for dessert!

I am from out of town and visit Alexandria, LA once a year. I was introduced to Verona last year and returned tonight. I had red snapper, shrimp, clams and mussels that were sauted in a white wine reduction sauce and then topped with a touch of marinara. I travel often on business to New York, Chicago, D.C., Atlanta, New Orleans, etc. and Verona's food is as good as any I've had in many high-end restaurants in those larger cities. Last year I had the shrimp and scallops in alfredo sauce and it was excellent as well. I look forward to returning next year for another great meal.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
