tied for my favorite restaurant. It'd win, hands down, if parking wasn't such a pain. The service is ridiculously fast, especially during lunch. We're talking maybe 7 minutes max for your order to arrive, even when it is busy. Food is hot, temperature wise, and comes out quick. Their carne asada platter rivals "Surf Taco" in southern california. Burritos are good, too. None of my family ever complains or doesn't clean their plates, here! Prices range from $10 a plate to $25 a plate, but the quality of food is the best in town as far as mexican restaurants go. Be aware that the chuck-e-cheese next door says they'll tow your car if you're not a customer, so try to go earlier in the evening if you can, to find parking easier. Definitely a good carpool location. Serves alcohol, beer and spirits and margaritas.

We had a late lunch at Sombrero ' s while visiting in Alexandria. There was not a wait for a table, the hostess was cordial as we requested a booth rather than a table. Our waitress lacked interpersonal skills necessary to consider our service pleasant. We are a well spoken group and the girl pretended not to hear our orders. It was a bit odd. We ordered several different items and an appetizer. The chips were a hint stale. Our lunches were below par. The grilled vegetables with the shrimp tacos were limp and flavorless. Shrimp was dried out. Chicken was way overcooked and had zero flavor. We had to ask another waitress for refills on drinks as our introverted waitress disappeared. We won't go back on our next trip. No bueno!

Not bad Tex-Mex for being outside of Texas. The margaritas were strong and cheap during happy hours. The Fajitas had great flavor, but cut a little thick. A bit pricey too, but overall a good time.

The food is hit or miss. Sometimes it's great, sometimes not. The service however is horrible. Every time we go there something happens. This last time.... When our son spilled a drink (tea everywhere) there was the server with our food. He didn't hesitate to start setting stuff on the table flooded with tea while we were panicking to try and clean up. I had to run and find napkins as our server was taking a long time to get some. Granted, servers are busy people, I know, but he was there when it happened. And as my wife rushed to to bathroom to clean and change our son, well, there's no changing table.

Sombreros is probably your best bet for Mexican food in Alexandria, LA. It pales in comparison to the stuff I'm used to in CA, but this place is alright. I really like the fact that they have Cholula hot sauce. What I don't care for is how they've got the weird cheese sauce that people seem to like here. 'Nuff said...

This place was an absolute disgrace to Spanish food and Tex Mex. I ordered the fish tacos with a side of grilled veg and my fish had a sour taste which in my professional opinion means it's off. The few bits of cabbage that were on it tasted unwashed and old. The grilled veg was unbelievably old with mold on the zucchini and brown broccoli. To top it off our disgusting excuse for a server was sat next to us at the bar stuffing her face from a guests, I'm guessing she knew, plate while serving us. This place is disgusting and it's sad that this is a choice for us to eat at in alexandria. I wouldn't even give this place one star if the app didn't make me!

OK Texmex, nothing special. Our waitress came by to take our order, after we received our drinks we didn't see her again. Had to get another waiter to find her so we could get a glass of water. Next time we want Mexican we won't go there

I was pleasantly surprised to see this place opened. I used to go to Cabo Rios. I love mexican food and I enjoyed my meal here. The food had good portions and for the healthy type, you can get a good portion of veggies with your protein also. I ordered the Fajitas Trio. It was great. Plenty of veggies as well as good portions of Chicken, Steak and Shrimp. Service was prompt and everyone was smiling while working.

Great, for Central Louisiana TexMex. Decent prices, responsive staff, very quick service. Three adults, Queso $48.35

Nice to see the CaboRio reopened by a chain. Renovated within the last 3 years, nice surroundings. Seating for 100+. Parking is NOT ample. Fairly standard menu. Quick service and attentive waitstaff. Decent Gypsy Kings type music piped in. Portions are ample but a teeny bit pricey,,, $7.29 cheapest thing for lunch, several at $8.59 too. Dinner prices more of course. Did not check into spirits, Happy Hour M-F 3-6. Not the cheapest Mex in town by any means, but perhaps it will be one of the best...

Typical Tex-Mex! It's possibly one grade down from what used to be Cabo Rio....which is still very good. It's pretty much the same menu, food, prices ($8.00-$17.00), same atmosphere....it's 80% identical to Cabo Rio. Food was good, service was good, it wasn't packed (thurs. night). They serve chips and salsa at each table. They have some interesting deserts (I.e., cheesecake chimi, apple pie skillet on ice cream. Mmm!).

I gave this resturaunt 3 stars because I believe it can improve. We are new to the area and thought stopping by a newly opened resturaunt would be fun. The outside of the resturaunt is very inviting and the ambiance inside is fun, festive and comfortable. The service from the host however is absolutely horrific. We arrived on a Sunday August 21 late afternoon with no wait for a table and we able to be seated right away. The host started to seat us at a table, I noticed many booths throughout the resturaunt open and asked if we could sit at a booth instead, she picked up the menus and threw them down at the nearest booth that had dirty seats and crumbs everywhere. She didn't even wait for us to sit down so we decided to just sit at the bar since we didn't want a dirty table and we obviously annoyed the host already with our first request of a booth. The hostess was short with us and didnt seem happy working at the establishment, she did however show interest in her cell phone. The hostess was quick to be in the righhand pocket of her brown sweater jacket to text when possible. The bar was also dirty and sticky however the bartender was more than willing to wipe it down, twice. We ordered two drinks and a sampler appetizer. Our drinks were very prompt. Our sampler however took much longer than expected, but we were expecting service to be slow since it was a newly opened resturaunt, plus we had drinks to sip on and complimentary chips and salsa to keep us happy we didn't even realize it was taking long fr the appetizer until the bartender apologized for the wait. When the sampler came out the manager delivered it with two plates. The plate he put in front of me however was dirty. I think they only run the dishes through the washer once instead of twice like most reaturaunts. It probably was sterile but it was to gross for me to eat off of. Our bill came to 32 dollars which included a sampler, two margaritas, and a beer. Our impression would have been completely different if the hostess was kind and sat us at a clean booth. Cleaning tables and customer service are the easiest things to improve on in a resturaunt, my suggestion get a new hostess because first impressions are everything!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
