Just an FYI to the good people of Alexandria: if you don't have to make a reservation, then it is not "fine dining". Seriously. Before I moved to Houston I thought these chains were "fine dining" as well due to being popular and more expensive than what I would normally eat. That doesn't mean that Johnny Carino's isn't good. It is good at being what it is - a place to be waited on while grabbing a decent meal. And I stress the word "decent" here which is just a cut above fast food. We were seated in the bar which means the bartender had to wait on us and everyone at the bar at the same time. That's not a good thing! The manager passed by us several times, but was too busy cracking jokes and chit chatting with his employees to ask us how our meal or service was. The menu here was a bit smaller than what I'm use to as well. Otherwise, this place is a good place to be waited on while you eat a decent meal after a day at a convention or a long drive around central Louisiana.

I have eaten at Johnny Carino's in NoCal many times & have always been extremely satisfied. When I saw this one in LA while visiting my kids, I raved about it & immediately stopped to feed everyone lunch. We were all very disappointed. The portions were much smaller, the food took forever to get to the table and came out in two sets 10 mins apart. The waitress was quite nice & refilled drinks quickly, so Heidi was great, just everything else was disappointed.

This place is awful! Do not come here! We waited for over an hour, and four of five meals came out. I had to go to the bar to refill my drinks myself. The waitress was not attentive and would disappear for 20 mins at a time. The cooks took their time and and went at "their own" pace ( bad thing about having an open kitchen is the guests can see your skill, or lack thereof). I complained to the manager and she was clueless, due to her hiding in the back and not circulating, like a manger should. We left, free dinners in out to go boxes. The owner of this joke of a restaurant should fire everyone except the greeter and the bartender! They were the only capable, producing members of society in there.

Terrible experience here. Do NOT waste your time with this joke of a place. My friend and I came here after a round of golf, and asked the waiter to keep our sweet teas coming. He did well for the first two or three refills, but then disappeared for 20-30 minutes at a time and completely ignored us when he passed by! Both of our meals came with a choice of house salad or Caesar salad but we didn't get our salads for 45 minutes! Even at that they tasted bland and as if they had been sitting out for a while. Immediately behind the salad came our meals. My friend's was tremendously undercooked and my chicken parm was piping hot as if it had been nuked in a microwave. I had tried to order lasagna but according to the waiter, "they were out." How the heck do you run out of some combination of pasta, cheese, and sauce at an Italian joint?! Then we went thirsty for the length of the meal and only saw our waiter again when he gave us the bill nearly 2 hours after we had first been seated. The other wait staff ignored us as well, and no one cared what the customers thought. The management was nowhere to be found. Save yourself money and time, and go somewhere else.

Went there 7/13/15 and this was easily the worst restaurant experience in my life. It started with waiting to be seated in an empty restaurant. Followed up by a waiter who didn't know that they were out of about half the menu. Once we got our food the disappointment continued. Don't bother going here you will be disappointed.

Absolutely horrendous! Will not be back. Where to start, perhaps the bug in my salad. Or maybe the overheated, microwaved lasagna. This restaurant is a joke and should be put out of business. Wouldn't even rate it one star but the system makes you give them something.

The service here was excellent, but I've had better food from the frozen food section at the grocery store. We will stick with Olive Garden.

Good chain restaurant Italian. VERY courteous waitstaff. Not as pricey as anticipated. I am likely to have lunch here again in the future.

What did you expect? 4 or 5 stars?? People, It's a chain restaurant and it shows! The whole hour we were there the manager was just standing by the kitchen talking to the employees. How about walking around the restaurant and asking everyone how the food and service is? I would pass on the chain restaurant experience and stick with the local mom and pop restaurants. At least they will appreciate your business! For the record, our waiter was very professional, attentive, and handled our special requests with ease.

One of Alexandria's popular chain restaurants. Attentive staff and service. The inside and outside is very big, clean, fancy, dim lighting lots of pasta and wine choices (however, the average dish contains at least 1,500 calories). Bread and a garlic-type sauce is served before your meal (the bread is average), and the food usually takes about 10-20 minutes to come out (depending on how busy it is). The "free birthday dessert" is vanilla ice cream. The price is normally $15.00-$30.00. There is also a bar area and large group sitting room (but NO reservations are taken). Altogether, a great choice for restaurant dining. However, I ordered the "spicy chicken and shrimp pasta" and was FOOD POISONED!!!!!!!!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
