LOVE IT!! We've been there for brunch several times. Service has been friendly; the place was very busy at brunch, but they were very organized and handled it well-staff didn't seem to be all stressed out about it. Love their brunch menu. They have a great variety to choose from for vegetarian options, healthy options, goetta dishes, and then some plain old un-healthy stick-to-your-ribs options. My wife and I love Sunday brunch, and we haven't seen any other place with a variety like theirs, and so many goetta dishes as well. Mokka's breakfast home fries are to die for. Awesome. I've never been disappointed in anything I've gotten there.

This place is awful! Everytime I come here I end up standing by the front door and wait for someone to greet me and they never do. Despite the fact that a server is usually just sitting by the door rolling silverware and they do not have the decency to even say hello or stop what they are doing to help. That or a busser is just standing around doing nothing and nobody is ever there to greet you. This is the type of service that I have grown to expect from this place. I have tried to give it a try now 3 separate times and all I ever see is people standing around and not helping anyone out. This place has to have some of the worse service of any place in Newport and the food is all crap/frozen junk and overpriced Do yourself a favor and do not go here, they suck

Just stopped here for brunch today. Excellent choice. Was not too busy on a holiday, got a seat for three within 15 minutes, even though I think they may have skipped a party ahead of us by accident. I had their signature french toast and it was magnificent. Everything on the menu seems to hover between $8-9, which was fairly reasonable. Sides weren't terribly impressive, but not bad in any way. If I'm in Newport at brunch time I would definitely suggest Mokka.

Went to Mokka for a late lunch or early dinner depending how you look at it. I had the Prime Minister Burger with coleslaw , wife had Mushroom and Swiss Burger with a salad. Very friendly service and a super good burger. Everything was really fresh. The taste of the burger was super good. These hamburgers are close to 1/2 pound burgers. You will be full when you leave. Good selection of local craft beers also. Check this place out if you want a good quality burger. Lots of choices, tons of sandwiches. Good menu. Something for everyone.

I expected a great experience but was disappointed. I had a late lunch on a Tuesday and there were only two other tables of customers. The service was fine but not as attentive as it should have been, considering the lack of customers. The Goetta Grilled Cheese wasn't very good. Perhaps my stomach isn't made for goetta but it seemed stale. The white bread seemed old. The criss-cut fries were fine. However, nothing seemed unsanitary or expired. The interior looked great though. It's a big restaurant and seems like the bar would be a lot of fun when filled with customers.

Let me preface by saying I do not like breakfast foods. I have never liked breakfast foods. I would much rather eat leftover pizza at 8am then eggs or pancakes. But my daughter is the polar opposite; its Lauren's favorite meal. So when she hounds me for breakfast food, we always go to Mokka in Newport. Its so good even I don't mind breakfast. It's hardly a little known secret, because there is always a line there. I think the quickest we've ever gotten in was today and the wait was at 20 minutes. For days like mothers day you have to have a reservation weeks ahead of time and they cant take walk ins those days. Mokka is known for their Creme Brulee french toast. For good reason. Its crispy, sweet, decadent, and freaking amazing. We order it sans bananas, but that's a preference thing. The creme does taste just like creme brulee. We've probably eaten it 10xs and never left a piece on the plate! Sooooo GOOD. This time Lauren also got a yogurt parfait. It was alright, but the fruit was basically all melon cut into very large pieces. I wish it was filled more with berries and strawberries instead. And I went to my go-to. The Grilled Cheese Goetta. I'm a Cincinnatian, so you know I love me some goetta. This sandwich is perfection. Its everything you want in a grilled cheese, then amped up with greasy yumminess. I love it because its not really breakfast, but ooey gooey goodness. The fried potatoes are good too. They taste like Frischs. I wish they had a cheese sauce like Frischs though; it would make it that much better.

GREAT FOOD but the service usually leaves a lot to be desired! If you're looking for a place to have the best brunch but the most disappointingly neglectful service you've found it! I really wish I could feel good about giving them 4 stars at least, but I can't. Every time I visit I wonder how they stay in business, but then I remember that life changing french toast they have! So if you go please put on your patient patty pants, don't expect much but do enjoy the specials on the chalk board (seriously their daily specials never disappoint!) or go for the corn flake crusted banana french toast!

We went on Sunday for brunch. we waited 45 minutes for food. Which unacceptable for a sports bar & grill. After a 30 minute wait the waitress informed us they ran out of what I ordered. The food was not bad but definetly not worth the wait. The waitress was never present and very sorry when she did show up. I would not go back.

Amazing. Just a short walk from the 21c Museum Hotel. Great atmosphere and even better service. I would have taken a photo of my Frittata and her French toast but it was too good to take the time.

I have been wanting to try this place for a long time and it didn't disappoint. It took about 20 minutes to get a table for 3 at 1030am and service was prompt throughout the whole meal. Portions were a good size, fair prices, and good quality. Eggs and biscuits were nothing special--wish they had a little more flavor or threw in another ingredient or two, but the French toast was amazing. I would definitely come back for French toast and goetta!

I experience Mokka and the Sunset Bar&Grill for Sunday Brunch. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table for four(they don't take reservations for parties under six people), which wasn't too bad of a wait for Sunday Brunch. When we got to our table, we were all starving and ready to attack the kitchen LOL...being so hungry made it rather difficult to make a decision on what to order since everything sounded so good. I went with the special of the day, Jalepeno Corn Cakes with eggs, pico, sour cream, avacado, and choice of a side. I was blown away by how many options Mokka offered for sides. I settled on the goetta (sausage mixed with oats) as my side since it was a local thing. We waited about 20 minutes for our food to get to the table. It was worth every minute we waited on the table and for the food. The food was very good! Everyone at my table agreed as well and were very satisified with the meal and service.

My friend I met here to try it out and we were not disappointed! Iced tea was fruity just how I like it. I had the Chicken Tender Salad and the greens were perfectly crisp, the chicken was so fresh and juicy; it all was delectable. I also had to order some fried pickle because I love them and I was not disappointed there either! My friend was pleased with her salad and sampler plate as well. Great place and I can't wait to go back! Highly recommended.

We had purchased a gift certificate deal, and we decided to stop in for breakfast on a Monday. There is a prominent bar in the main dining area where most of the walls are lined with wood, excluding the one brick wall at the front of the building. Service was very slow from the minute we walked in until we left. I ordered the Mokka French Toast, and my husband had the York Street Benny. All of the food was fine, but like I mentioned, there was a long wait in between each step of our experience. There seemed to be only one waitress on staff for the majority of our visit, and to her defense, I don't think she stopped moving the entire time we were there. They weren't crazy-busy, but there were a handful of occupied tables.

Had Mokka for the first time a couple weeks ago with a friend. We went in for brunch and a Bloody Mary that was much needed. The Bloody Mary was good, but not great. Just some vodka and Bloody Mary mix. No garnish whatsoever. I got a meal that included the French toast, which was to DIE for, home fries, eggs and biscuits and gravy. I was impressed. Unfortunately the food took an unusually long time to get out. I mean, it's breakfast food. 25 minutes to wait when the place wasn't busy at all seemed a little ridiculous. My bill was about $20. For a mediocre bloody, and the wait time on the food. I was not happy. And don't get me wrong, I'm all for kids starting a job early but WHY on Gods green earth is there an employee who looks like he's 13 behind the bar pouring himself a soda. 100% NOT okay. He shouldn't be back there. Period. With all of the workers there, someone else could do it. I MAY be back. But I doubt it.

Mokka is just OK. It's not my first choice for food as the service is slow (and often indifferent), and the food itself is mediocre. But, the space is good for large groups (ie; the office Christmas party). The location is convenient to downtown, hence it being a good meeting spot.

This place has to get better service. It's so slow. It is a cute place and the food is good, but the service desperately needs to improve.

I had lunch with a friend who loves to frequent Mokka. Service was friendly but a bit slow, the atmosphere was fine, and the food was okay. I had the goetta frittata. It was edible, but lacked seasoning and included very little goetta. I also had the peanut butter torte, which was okay too. Although I respect my friend's enthusiasm, I simply do not share it.

This is my second time to mokka and we are from chicago, so that will give some indication of why we came back while we were in cinci. I ordered the breakfast sampler with a side of cheezy grits. The mokka french toast is fabulous and next time we are there ill be getting the full order. The service was quick but i will say that on a sunday the wait to be seated can be slightly long but not long enough to deter me from a delicious breakfast! Lets talk about the atmosphere. When you look around things are a little worn and the pictures on the walls are hung crookedly, but i feel thats what gives this place character and it tells me that this place has been enjoyed by many and will continue to do so in the future. Now i have seen reviews regarding the bar and how they have a bartender in the am. Really?!?!??? Who cares. I sort of like the idea of a bar by night and a delicious family restaurant by day. Sounds ingenious to me In the end i say give it a try

Stopped in for lunch. I had the Italian sandwich with sweet potato fries. Both were excellent. It's a little pricey for everyday lunch, but will go back when I'm looking for something special.

Great food and even better service! Randomly chose this place for breakfast while enjoying a weekend trip. I had the Hangover Special, The Wife had the Goetta Fritatta, and The Daughter had the Mokka French Toast (which I was happy to help her finish. I mean, c'mon, Creme Brûlée cream!) One of the waitresses who was not even working our table noticed our 2 year old daughter getting a little restless and brought her a whole coloring book and a tin of crayons (not just the stock 2 colors and scribble sheet you get most places)! Everyone was very friendly and we will definitely be back whenever we stay in the area!!

We usually visit Mokka for Sunday brunch and yesterday's meal was out of this world delish! Egg-battered thick sliced French toast with a sweet cream cheese filling, blueberry sauce, fresh blueberries, and whipped cream. I wanted to lick the plate it was so good. I added a side of goetta which was perfectly cooked, and was in food nirvana. The staff is attentive, fun, and engaging. All around the best breakfast in northern Kentucky!

Stopped in for a quick lunch today. The food was pretty good, not great. They did have plenty of options to choose from, which was nice! Service was decent. I enjoyed it there, but this isn't a place I would become a regular at.

Second time coming here for breakfast, service barely noticed us for 10 minutes. Took that long to get our drinks (water) and then they gave us small cups without straws (they did this last time and I can't figure it out- everyone else always gets their regular size cups). No refills during our entire meal on our tiny waters despite leaving them on the edge of the table and trying to catch someone's eye. We had to grab our menus and silverware off another table. They delivered our food without realizing we had no way to eat it. Got Mokka French toast (good) and pancakes with eggs. Eggs were a disappointing lump and normally delicious pancakes were undercooked. Goetta (side) seemed mushier than usual. The waiters have to bus all the tables which causes a real slowdown in service. Not a great second visit to a place I was hoping to make more regular visits.

Very slow service. The table was very dirty after we sat down had the server clean table again.very small portions on fruit. I ordered a small fruit 5 pieces of fruit for $5 come on. Breakfast yogurt was small too. Will not eat there again for breakfast.

Looking for a good brunch place to take our visiting family, who now live out of town, we found Mokka on-line. And really glad we did. The food was great. Everyone loved what they ordered. Eggs cooked perfectly as ordered. The Goetta is a must and cooked perfectly with crispy outside and soft inside. Highly recommend the Mokka French Toast! As far as the service we were pleasantly surprised. Some of the reviews painted a pretty negative picture but, we did not find this to be true. Our server was very pleasant and service was prompt. Definitely will be back!

I love mokka's food-best burgers hands down, but I could only give them 3 stars because their service is terrible! My husband and I ate there this morning. The bartender told us to ask the hostess if we were aloud to sit at the bar, she didn't want to take our order but finally did because all the servers were busy. It took forever to get our food, had to ask for refills-that is if we were able to find our server. We'll make sure we get carryout in the future.

I can't believe I'm just now getting around to reviewing this place. I have to have brunch here every time I am in KY visiting the family. The servers are always sweet and sometimes a little sassy (but nicely so). They've got good southern/midwestern breakfast options. I've had the breakfast pizza on many occasions, if you like goetta and sausage gravy this is a must try. Mostly recently I had the special pancakes, I think they were cinnamon swirl topped with fluff. It came with 2 eggs, goetta and 2 pancakes. The food was amazing. I love the goetta and it was such a large portion the whole table of got to help me enjoy the pancakes. My husband had the coffee cake, which was also delightful and the whole table helped us finish.

Used to like coming here. Hadn't been for awhile and came at a slow time and waited 5 minutes to be sat. Then, when we had to hunt down a hostess, she was very rude. Won't be back. Too many good choices in the area to put up with rude and incompetent service.

Up until a recent visit I would've gave this place 4 stars. My boyfriend and I stopped in on a weekday night for dinner and waited patiently to be seated. We waited and waited to be greeted by no one. There were empty tables available, mostly unbussed. While waiting the seemed slammed. There was an empty table in the corner, unbussed, so we walked towards it and asked a server in passing if we could have the table. He responded very rudely with, "Fine, but you're going to have to wait a long time to be served" and went about his business. And so we decided to leave, feeling unwelcomed to say the least. That's unfortunate as I held this place high as a go-to place in Newport for breakfast. Sad to say, that's no longer the case.

  • Leif H.

I recommend getting breakfast. I haven't tried other meals, but their breakfast is reasonably priced and tasty. If you only get one item, it must be the Mokka French Toast. This is the best item on the menu. You can share the a la carte portion. Another tasty item is the breakfast quesadilla and breakfast sampler. Both are good. The main thing the place lacks is great service. To put it plainly, it is just slow. It shouldn't, however, stop you from trying this place out for a nice breakfast.

We went to Mokka for brunch and it looks more like a bar than the brunch places we normally like to go to. But, it seems to be a popular place as we had about a 20 minute wait around 11am on Sunday. Our server was friendly and suggested the Mokka French Toast when we asked for recommendations. We tried that and the goetta grilled cheese sandwich with egg. Both were good choices. The Mokka French Toast had a nice texture and not too sweet and the goetta on the grilled cheese sandwich was very crispy, the way I like it. Overall, I think Mokka has items that are a little more unique than the average brunch place, execution was good, and the pricing reasonable. I think Mokka is a good choice if you're looking for brunch in the Newport, KY area.

I'm surprised Mokka doesn't have a better overall rating. I imagine this is due to reviewers rating the restaurant based on any meal other than breakfast. This is my favorite (reasonably priced) breakfast in the Cincinnati / NKY area. I order the same menu item every time because it is that good. Mokka French Toast - thick, challah-type bread in cornflake batter, topped with creme brûlée and slices of banana & powdered sugar. No syrup is necessary (or permitted on my plate). It's perfect without adding anything. Goetta - typical Cincinnati goetta preparation, but a perfect accompaniment to the french toast Mokkaccino - half coffee / half hot chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles. A cup of perfection. What could be better? PS - you can order breakfast any time of the day, so don't ruin your meal here by ordering one of their lunch items. I think I used some form of the word "perfect" at least a dozen times in this review, yet I only gave Mokka 4 stars. To be fair, I've had a couple items from the lunch menu and nothing was better than average. Maybe Mokka should serve breakfast only? I give my standard breakfast meal 5 stars.

Not expensive and a good variety of sandwiches and burgers. They have a dessert that will blow you out of the water. Make sure to try the chocolate peanut butter fudge pie (or whatever it is). It's rich and mighty so make sure to share with a friend. Their brunch menu looks great and I can't wait to try it one day.

I've only been here for brunch, but they have a delicious goetta grilled cheese. I always add 2 eggs over easy to the sandwich. One egg will not be enough as I learned the first visit. Sandwich is heavy on the stomach but perfect ratios of bread, melty cheese, goetta, and egg. They also have yummy home fries. Good place often overlooked next the the Syndicate.

It is my sincere apology that I have to give this place two stars, but I just have to do it. A place that is loved by locals, I've been hearing time and time again that I MUST get to this place. I don't know if they were meaning the bar or the food because they do both. This review is based on brunch alone. I came here with a group of friends that were all visiting in town for Thanksgiving. I actually suggested this place because I figured they would have good food, and we could sit and catch up for a while. I am actually so completely embarrassed that I chose this place. I didn't go with a super popular OTR place because we all wanted a very chill, low key breakfast. We did have a great time catching up, but unfortunately it had nothing to do with this place. This place is awkward, and I am not sure of their identity, maybe it changes at night I don't know. We ordered simple breakfast sandwiches and my friends only had an egg on half of hers. The other side was toast, and a tomato. SO bad. With something that simple, you would think the execution would be there. I ordered a breakfast sandwich as well and instead of putting a slice of cheese on it, there was a thick almost microwaved layer of shredded cheese that was so thick and greasy it was hurting my stomach to even eat. Instead of sending it back because we were all starving we picked apart our food, deconstructed it into what was actually edible. I am so disappointed in this place and thoroughly embarrassed that I brought people from out of town. The only saving grace was that the girl serving us was a sweetheart. I just hope that my friends don't leave Cincy with a bad taste in their mouth, literally and figuratively :(

The boyfriend and I ate breakfast at Mokka for the first time this St. Patty's Day morning. Contrary to the majority of the reviews on here, we found the service to be very good, but the food to be sub-par/just plain bad. We both ordered coffee and the Mokka samplers. He ordered it with scrambled eggs and goetta. I'm not a fan of goetta, but surprisingly we both agreed it was the best thing on the plate - it was a generous portion, crisp and perfectly cooked. But the rest of the food was a HUGE letdown. His scrambled eggs looked like a flap of yellow, fake eggs. The biscuits were gummy and not freshly-made and baked, and the gravy had that undeniable canned taste. I decided to save the calories and left it alone after two small bites. I liked the (small) French toast, but the boyfriend wasn't impressed with it. And the potatoes weren't the fresh-cuf home fries I'd hoped for, but deep-fried cubes of the bagged variety. The bacon reminded me of the pre-cooked kind you microwave. Coffee and service were good - total price sans tip was around $23, which wasn't bad - but not worth it for the quality. We wouldn't go back.

Found this spot on a google search to get some breakfast before we visited the Newport Aquarium on a weekend trip. VERY happy with the results! We ordered the Goetta Frittata and the Mokka French Toast (as per the reviews suggested) and we were NOT let down. Both dishes were equally delightful in their own regards. I would have given 5 stars, but our food seemed to take a bit too long to get to us (I work in the service industry, so I tend to give some leniency if it's busy or if someone in our party ordered a well done steak, but neither of these was the case.) However, I would gladly wait for this food again. That's what truly makes a restaurant shine, in my opinion: quality food. Delicious!

Went to Mokka for lunch with my dad today. Great deals on Thursday, most meals were $6...$2 or $3 off. I had a crispy pork salad and dad had the turkey reuben. Food was great! They were kind of busy as it was right around 12:30. The service was so so, mostly because it took about 25 minutes to get our food. Usually this would have bothered me during lunch on a busy work day but getting to spend some time with dad had me in no rush at all. Great time, good food, will go back!

Had been there for lunch and was decent. A little better burger than O'Charleys or similar. We decided to go for breakfast this morning. Walked in and no workers were present behind bar, nor the floor. There were six tables so we just sat down. After what seemed about 5 minutes (in my head) without seeing anyone employed by them, I started timing. Finally someone came out and served a table. She also went back to them twice and then to the table next to us and took their drink orders. They tried to order food orders but she asked them to wait. Exactly 10 minutes and 11 seconds after I started timing, she took our drink orders and refused to take food orders. She went back in kitchen, returned to the previous table she served and visited prior. I told my wife if she goes there again without bringing our drinks, we're leaving. After waiting there without a drink, without placing a food order and watching the server visit the same table 4 times (20+ minutes) we left. Not sure how the food tastes for breakfast, and I never will. I would suggest only go there if you have 2+ hours to waste.

I love the brunch here! The Mokka French toast is wonderfully delicious. If I wasn't so anal about my carb intake I would get this everyday! The bacon is perfectly cooked to a crisp. The mimosas are the perfect way to start your Sunday Funday!!!

We love Mokka for brunch! Love their weekly specials and the ability to also get something a little healthier with frittatas! They always have a Rivertown Brewery beer on tap (love it) so a late afternoon stop in probably wouldn't be bad either! The only downside is the occasional slow service...but never terrible or upsetting!

Still smoing in this place, which is off-putting but, its got good beers and good food at a good price. The live band was awesome the night I was there and its an older crowd. I was on a date so it was a perfect setting for the occasion.

Is there a better spot for comfort food in Northern Kentucky. I say no. Now, don't get me wrong, like most places in Newport/Covington, this is a very different scene from morning to night. When the sun goes down and a band starts playing here, or they have a DJ, or just turn up the music over the speakers, it becomes a place to party, and not my favorite place in the world. However, Mokka has one of my favorite breakfast/brunches in the city, especially when dealing with a hangover. Maybe this is why they get so loud at night - so you come back in the morning for them to ease your wounds (how devious!) I have no idea what the name means and I keep meaning to ask. The bar has kind of a western/southern type feel, with wood everywhere (wooden walls, wooden bar, wooden tables, etc.) The staff is friendly but can be a little short if they get busy. It's ok, take a seat and wait for that meal. And oh what a meal it is: biscuits and gravy, goetta, eggs, and, of course, their legendary breakfast potatoes, which come out perfectly fried and deliciously spiced. As our waitress (and Jon A) referred to them: "golden nuggets of glory." I couldn't agree more. There's no parking lot but there are cheap meters across the street (.25 cents will get you half an hour and the meters run for 10 hours so it's not too much of an issue.) Plus, you're right across the street from the World Peace Bell and who doesn't like to see a giant bell from time to time. So again, not my favorite spot past about 1pm. However, before then, my god people, those breakfast potatoes! Those potatoes!

food = excellent 2 times we have dined at mokka for breakfast and we have had the same server - she is a heavy set girl, tall, reddish/brown hair - i think sara is her name - she didn't smile at all , her aura was that she was to good for us and it seemed like she didn't want to be there - it took her 20 minutes just to take our order - my golly was she filling up that coffee canister though and made sure that thing was filled with coffee, but to the customers she didn't give 2 toots about us- she walked by us numerous times and said nothing, didn't even nod to our presence. she had no character, no personality and should not be on the serving business - she was dead right awful. my fiance and i ordered the exact same thing - mine came out first she just sat in on the table and walked away - 15 minutes later (we counted) and his food finally came out. she could have had the decency to at least tell us what was going on. i am sorry but when i tell my friends about your establishment, especially in the morning hours for breakfast i will tell them do not go there. if you hire poor service then what does that say about you? the food was great - finally when we got it -

I really wish Mokka were better. The good never disappoints, but the service is awful. Inattentive. Shouldn't take 5 minutes to pour a beer when there's only 3 people at the bar, and no tables. Shame.

Mokka is great. I eat here probably once a month. I prefer breakfast. It is reasonably priced and great location. They have live music on the weekends, and a nice bar area. There lunch and dinner menus are a little sparse, mostly sandwiches, but they do have really good burgers, so if that is your fancy you can always find something.

Very good breakfast. Ordered the French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and grits. All were exceptionally good. Service was somewhat slow. I would recommend this place for brunch, but be prepared to wait.

I've been here twice now and each time has not quite lived up to the expectations. I want to support a local business, especially in my town. But they really do need to step up their pace. It was fine once we got a table (orders were taken in a timely manner and food brought out pretty quickly) but it took forever to actually get seated. Numerous empty tables in sight, at one point there were 4 parties of 2 waiting. The food was very good, but it seems like the portions should be larger. I guess that's how they keep the prices so reasonable. I took other reviewers' recommendations of the potatoes and cheese grits and was not disappointed. If you have the Entertainment Book there's a coupon for $5 off a $15 bill. Also they have a deal of $10 for $20 on LivingSocial right now.

With the holiday weekend being so busy, my wife and I didn't find much time for dining out. We did manage to get out of the house on Monday, and found our first choice for dinner was apparently closed that evening, likely in observance of Christmas. With that plan ruined I drove toward downtown with no destination in mind. I was hoping to find someplace new to try, and eventually we ended up crossing the river into Newport and stumbling upon Mokka and the Sunset Bar & Grill. It was recommended as a good breakfast spot during the Newport Gangster tour, but as it turns out they serve pretty good dinner options as well. Since it was Monday, we were able to take advantage of their half price appetizer selections and agreed on the pesto dip - goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and pesto sauce served warm with soft and crispy pita chips. This was a really good start to our meal and at only $4.50 it was a steal! I thought I had a photo, but my phone is acting like it doesn't exist. Bummer. For dinner I ordered the islander sandwich - sliced hot ham, Swiss cheese, pineapple, lettuce, tomato and jerk mayo served on grilled wheat bread - with onion rings on the side ($8). My wife ordered the goetta grinder - grilled red onions, green peppers and goetta topped with Pepper Jack cheese and mayo served on a seasoned hoagie bun - with waffle fries ($8). We tried these since they were some of the more unique items on the menu and it really paid off. We split both sandwiches and I was happy with both. The goetta grinder was definitely unique and I would easily order it again. The mix of peppers and onions with goetta was something I've never had before but I think it really worked well. The islander had pretty thick sliced ham and the pineapple was a nice touch. One thing that I would change would be the amount of butter used. It seemed that both meals were overly greasy. The grinder definitely didn't need the butter and seasoning on top, which is visible in the photo. Other than that, we had a good meal for an affordable price. Beer prices were also fair and there were a few good craft choices on tap too.

So, I strangely enough ended up here twice last week... I would go back, but there are certain menu items I would avoid. And...at least on both the times I went, the service was only OK. Things to order: the Mokka French toast (YUM), Blueberry Belgian Waffle (Huge), and the Breakfast Quesadilla (double YUM). I tried the Goetta Fritata and a friend had the goat cheese one. Neither one was spectacular. Service seems to be the downside here. I took much, much longer than it should have at every step of the process both times I went there, one time when it was empty and one time when it was packed. Definitely try the place out, just don't do it when you are in a hurry.

I've visited my friend in Newport for years and I was so upset that he had never taken me here. This is a great find. We went for brunch on Saturday. The place is clean with lots of light a local artist work on the wall, very cool. We arrived around noon on Saturday, it was a little busy but didn't have to wait long to be seated. Coffee was great and we split the breakfast quesadilla and a Belgium waffle. The quesadilla was absolutely delicious, cheese inside a sun-dried tomato tortilla and two eggs on top, so yummy. The Belgium waffle was good, not the best but tasty. The bacon wasn't as crispy as I would have liked it so if you are like me, make sure you tell them to make it crispy. We also had a side of their potatoes (yes our eyes where bigger then our stomach) but they were so freaking good we ate them all. My only complaint is that the service was a little slow and not as friendly as I would have expected for place where lots of locals go. Oh also I heard that they have $5 dinners on Thursdays, so check it out if you can.

1st time at this restaurant. Went here for brunch with 2 friends. The menu had a good variety of dishes. I had the breakfast sampler which included small portions of the biscuit/gravy, Mokka french toast, eggs and one side which I chose cheese grits. All the food was great. Their coffee is even really good. The restaurant wasn't that busy but the time to receive our food was just a little on the slow side. Luckily there was good conversation & good coffee to pass the time. Definitely a gem! If you haven't been here, you should put it on your to do list.

We live right down the street and It's a great place to go and enjoy a relaxing night of good beer, good food, and good music. Their breakfast and french toast are a must. But all their food is good too! My only issue is that their service is not very good. Most of the bartenders (one in particular) are very VERY slow. It's never very crowded when we go, and yet we still have to beg to get attention from the workers. You would think in an atmosphere as small as Mokka is, the bartenders would at least kind of recognize their regulars, but not in this case. I'm generalizing, but for the most part, the workers are kind of slow. Other than the service, definitely try it out. If you can get there for breakfast everything is very VERY good.

What do you call a breakfast place where everything is delicious? A dream come true? 10/10? This is mokka ladies and gentlemen. It's a weird combination, with a bar and a breakfast place in the same location. I haven't tried the bar, but now this is my choice of breakfast on the other side of Ohio river. Me and wifey were taking part in the 5k as part of the cincy half marathon. By the time we were finished we were famished, and like many other couch potatoes who suddenly decide to do a 5k, we wanted our reward, and now. We turned to yelp for a good recommendation and it showed as Mokka. We were also planning to goto Newport Aquarium, which is a short walk from here. So we got here, and got ourselves a table by the window. The color scheme works perfect in the morning. I tell you, if you have a photographic eye, you will jump with joy near that window. I had a breakfast sampler, which was one of the best decisions i made in my life in recent years. It had their glorious french toast, eggs (i had them scrambled) biscuit and gravy, and sausages. Each one of them tasted heavenly, and created some kind of an impossible taste harmony in my mouth. The french toast is kinda sweet, but in a small porttion like with the sampler it is just-right. One of the best biscuit gravy i have ever had. Wifey had pumpkin pancakes, bacon and potatoes. She is very picky with the food she eats, but this morning her plate was empty before you could say "whaaaa..."

Burgers are yummy here and I love the breakfast. I come here a lot so I can be considered a regular. I have only been disappointed once here and that is when I came around Thanksgiving and tried pumpkin pancakes (not delish) but since I have been coming for two years, I can forgive one bad meal.

This place is so cute. My dad took me here the first time and I ended up wanting to take everyone I knew back there to eat. They have a huge sandwich menu, which perhaps is the reason why I love the place so much. Feels very homey with paintings on the wall and the small sections. Great place to go for lunch or dinner.

Mokka is what I'd call... acceptable. It's not great but it's not bad either. The burgers are pretty good but the buns dissolve rather quickly. It's an area they could improve on. They do have some pretty good sweet potato and waffle fries. The prices are fairly reasonable for a bar & grill. Though I don't think their drinks specials are all that special. Mokka is the type of place to if you're just looking for a nice, easy meal before heading out for the night. It's not great, but not half bad either. Just like this review.

My husband and I discovered this place while staying in Covington now it's our go to place for breakfast. Service has always been good. More than friendly staff. The food is very good nothing fancy. Had their pumpkin pancakes with whipped cream cheese topping. Yummo. Will definitely return.

I was looking for a new breakfast place with a little something extra, so I turned to my friends at yelp! You folks didn't steer us wrong, it was exactly as reviewed. We arrived around 11:45 am on a Sunday, and there were about 6 parties ahead of us. I have to say that if there was one thing I was disappointed with, it was the wait. We waited about 30 minutes. This was disappointing for 2 reasons: we weren't offered any coffee while we waited, and when we were finally seated, there were at least 4 empty tables in the other room. HOWEVER, it was well worth the wait, and I will wait again in the near future! Menus were already at our table when we were seated, and our server arrived promtly for our drink order. They had several brunch specials: pumpkin pancakes, quiche (which sold out as we were waiting), stuffed french toast with pumpkin cream cheese, and some healthy choices I didn't bother reading. I went for the pumpkin pancakes, with canadian bacon and scrambled eggs. My husband ordered the breakfast sampler with goetta. We both had coffee. WOW! I think our server's name was Christie, and she kept the coffee hot and our cups full. We chatted and enjoyed the atmosphere while we waited for our food, and when it arrived it was amazing! My husband's sampler had 1 biscuit with sausage gravy, 1/2 slice of their french toast, eggs and goetta. The food was amazing! I made pumpkin cupcakes a few weeks ago, and my pancakes from here were better Even the scrambled eggs tasted especially good, and it looked like I had about 6 of them. The other reviewers were so right when they said the goetta was perfectly cooked. I didn't think I liked goetta until today - YUM. Finally, the staff was remarkable. Even 2 of the bus boys stopped to thank us for our business and invited us to return. When was the last time that happened? We will be regulars, and now I can't wait to go there for dinner and drinks. If the food is half as good and the staff as friendly as today, I'll be one happy customer! Kudos Mokka!

Came here for brunch and had a fritatta. I liked the laid back atmosphere of this place and the fritatta was ok. However, the portions were really small and I wished we would have known this. I feel like you need to order 2 brunch options to be full, which probably also explains why it was cheap (2 picks of the menu would make for the price I expected). So, all in all not bad, but would definitely order more than one thing for brunch next time!

From what my trusty co-worker Alex S tells me, Mokka has a very different scene from day to night. I can't speak to the nighttime antics, but here are a few highlights from the daytime: -Lots of brunch items with gravy on them. Yes, please. -Golden, spiced breakfast potatoes that reminded me of my elementary school cafeteria in the best possible way. Seriously, so good. -Goetta. A must when you're in Cincy, am I right? -Free-flowing coffee (my cup never even felt a slight chill, it was refilled so regularly) -Friendly service -Hangover cures to spare (Bloodys, "the" game on TV, eggs, the aforementioned gravy) Other notes: -Parking in this area seems tricky to a visitor like me. Meters aren't standard (some 20 minute limit, some 10 hour limit) and we ended up paying $2 in a rusty parking contraption behind Mokka... but weren't really sure if we had to pay or not. It's probably a lot more obvious to locals, but thought it was worth noting. -No poached eggs on weekends -The breakfast pizza isn't a pizza, but it's so good. It's basically a goetta, egg, gravy pile on top of a piece of pita bread. Amazing.

i value the management of expectations. And, I also value exploding the notion that expectations have to be managed if the product is so intensely good it deserves a premeditated attack of hype & hyperbole. In this case... Mokka & The Golden Nuggets of Glory (aka their breakfast potatoes). Whether the cheery, attentive, staff realized it or not, she raised the bar for the entire meal on the coattails of the Golden Nuggets of Glory. And guess what... this meal lived up to it all and then some. Buttermilk (and they were clearly buttermilked) biscuits. Crack those open, fry a slice of Glier's Goetta, smother it in sausage gravy, with a side of the golden nuggets of glory, request a side of two over eggs, toss them on top. That goetta was ridiculously well-fried, and well-suited to be atop biscuits and under sausage gravy & eggs. If I weren't driving after the meal, I would've gone Bloody or Beer... instead it's bar coffee, at the least though it was always refilled & hot. I couldn't have drummed up a better hangover, get out of my slumber meal. Like Annie D noted... parking is whack around these parts, which is no blame to Mokka (10 minute parking? in some spots, 10 hours in others? Come one KY). The easiest thing to do is to park in the pre-paid lot next to the building. There's a "Rust Monster" box where you shove cash into, but it's unattended and makes you wonder if it's ever been attended and who's rent or Hudy habit you're helping out. My experience here was one giant Golden Nugget of Glory. I felt like they should've draped me in an American Flag for my exit. Expectations met. Expectations surpassed.

As I am planning this review in my head, I am probably going to do a bad job explaining my feelings on Mokka so in summary - I like it! Mokka feels like a restaurant/bar that you would find in a really small town. One that has a catch all type place where you can get breakfast or get a beer and watch the game in the evening in the same spot....only it has been dropped a half mile from downtown Cincinnati. This isn't a bad thing! I have been here twice, once for lunch and once for brunch so I can't judge dinner or the bar crowd, but I really enjoyed this place earlier in the day. Our servers have been polite and while both times the food has taken bit longer to prepare than what I would anticipate, we were checked in on regularly. I've had the goetta grilled cheese (with an a la cart order of the Mokka French toast - yum) along with pancakes and fruit. All have been really enjoyable. Actually, the menu has lots of dishes that sound intriguing. I will admit that looking over the weekly special board is a bit more complex than usual, but we are all smart people - right? You can figure it out. Monmouth is already a pretty special street for me and this place with its odd character just adds to the charm.

Mokka is delightful. I had heard of it, passed it, meant to try it. I finally went for lunch with a friend, and we had a wonderful experience. Cheery, elegant atmosphere, friendly service, varied menu, and glorious food! The have an array of lunch salads, sandwiches, and breakfast if you're in the mood. Being a 'breakfast for lunch' person, I had the pancakes. They were heavenly, served with Canadian bacon and fruit. And reasonably priced. Win win. They also have a bar, with happy hour specials, full dinner menu, and live music on certain nights. I will certainly be back next time I'm in Newport. This place is a great find.

Mokka drives me insane. This is one of the few restaurants that I have been to eat brunch, lunch and dinner so I have a fairly well-rounded perspective of the joint. My favorite? Not by a long shot, but they do have a good menu, tasty food and a terrific mimosa if I should be so bold. My problem with Mokka has never been the food. I even ventured way outside the box and had a side of goetta last time I was there for brunch and halfway enjoyed it! I take issue with the service. Whenever Monica and I have gone, which has been quite a few times (at her request), we always seem to have a server missing something. They've all been nice, but missing urgency or give-a-damn, I'm not sure; can't put my finger on it. Again, everyone has always been very polite and nice, but not the best service I've ever had. Maybe I'm too picky.

Went to Mokka for the breakfast on a Friday morning. Expectedly, the place was pretty empty. Noticed there was a baby over in the dining room area so we headed for a seat in the bar. The breakfast was good. It seemed like there could have been a little more food for the price. I do have to agree with others. I think there were maybe 3 people working this place that day. Only 1 server..She looked overwhelmed with just about 10 people in there. The coffee was surprisingly good but not very hot. Even when the waitress stopped by for a warm up it was still not that warm. My wife had a living social coupon. So it was a heck of a deal for a morning breakfast. I really wouldn't suggest going there unless you had one. Now on to the thing that bothers me the most. Nothing related to the restaurant but to just people in general. To all you parents out there... I've got news for you. Not everyone in the world thinks your kids are cute or fun to watch or like having them around like you do. People are at a restaurant to enjoy themselves too. They want food and conversation and to relax. Having your 2 year old run laps around the bar multiple times is redick. The first 2 times of screaming and laughing are fine and all. I get it, you have a kid. Here they are. Look at me. But, the rest of us just want you to vacate the restaurant asap. I mean you are lucky to get one day off of work to go have some breakfast out as a nice treat and you have this ignorant little chucky running around all over the place. It's just about respecting others and not acting like a clueless hillbilly. Don't come to places like this. Go to I-hop or waffle house. That is where you belong.

Three stars right now--will go again soon and see if things get even better. Things are looking up for Mokka--I was in the mood for their Mokka French Toast today, so I headed over for $6.00 Thursday and noted new servers--new, more attentive servers who kept a nice pace, food arrived in time to actually eat slowly and digest it, she checked back within a reasonable time, and brought the check without being asked...an overall happy experience that I hope continues. The Mokka French Toast (with potatoes and crisp goetta) rocks, and I could eat it anytime, but I've been hesitant to go back to Mokka because of all the service mishaps I've experienced over the last year or so. Here's to (hopefully) continued change for the better!

I opted to try Mokka because I heard that it had a variety of vegetarian breakfast options. I was anticipating a Melt-like experience in Newport. Not a chance! Upon entering, I was face-to-face with a sandalwood bar. I thought I had walked into the wrong establishment, as this looked more like Bobby Mackey's than Melt. It had that country music and bourbon feel. We stood in the door way for a bit, and bartender came to seat us (mind you, we were there for breakfast and a bartender was on duty.) We were led into the backroom which had a few tables and were handed a one-sided menu. There were minimal vegetarian options...heck, on a one-sided menu, there were minimal options for anything! Our choices were a spinach quiche, fruit cup and hashbrowns. We ordered all three and coffee. There was one other couple in the restaurant, however it took a really long time for the food to arrive. The waitress/bartender didn't bother to check in on us in the mean time. As we waited, I made observations about the backroom. The decor felt more like a steakhouse than a breakfast cafe. Clearly, this is a place where you eat hot wings, not an omelette. There were not designated smoking areas, so the restaurant smelled (yes, that one other couple was smoking.) Our food finally arrived and was subpar. The quiche was small and unflavorful, and the fruit cup looked like it had been marinating in a bucket overnight. The hashbrowns were just okay. When the bill arrived, we had sticker shock: it was over $20.00... not to mention one cup of coffee cost $2.00! Mokka is far from being a breakfast cafe, much less serving good vegetarian meals. It should go back to its roots as a sports bar and quit trying to pass as a bistro during the morning hours.

Checked this place out for a Sunday Brunch. Good food, decent service, and a good bloody mary! The food is deceiving on the menu, but they all come with multiple sides if you read the fine print. If you only read the descriptions, everything seems super small, but fear not! I got the 2 eggs meal, with bacon and hashed potatoes - delicious! Recommended for the area. Beware of their orange juices, though, they are about as small as a thimble unlesss you get the "Large"

I left this place with a headache. We met a large group at about 6:45 and were sat rather quickly (We'd RSVP'd, of course). However, it took forever to get our orders taken and then forever to get served. Once the food did arrive it was AOK but nothing to brag about. I was surved the wrong dish and had to send it back and when I got the right one it was without a side. I didn't complain because by that time 8:15ish the staff looked to be short of patience and my head was throbbing. Why? Because the place was louder than a P-funk concert. There was some mediocre band playing in the next room way too loudly. Then there were TVs on and what I thought was a nice restaurant was actually a sports bar with the requisite yelling by men. At a certain point I completely gave up trying to speak to the people I was dining with. I finished my meal as quickly as I could and excused myself and got the hell out of there.

Man, I'm really torn on how many stars to review Mokka. On the one hand, I thought their food was amazing. On the other, their deals on drinks blow major chunks. So, I guess I'll start on the good. I went there for a happy hour, and near everything on the menu was only $5, with appetizers half price. I got a hoagie, sandwich, thing, which was one of the best sandwiches I've had in quite a while. To top it all off, waffle fries?! Yes, our superior-in-every-way-to-french-fry friend made a glorious, well timed appearance. The sandwich was huge, everything tasted fresh, and it sat well in my tummy. Now, as far as the drinks. Their happy hour is confusing, as the only special they actually have is 50 cents off a beer, and $2 for a pint of Miller Lite. I hardly consider any of those deals, especially because if a cheap domestic like Miller is over $2, you're getting scammed. On their board they advertise $2 well drinks, which would be fine - except these apparently only start after 9. Why the deception Mokka? To add insult to injury, one of my friends ordered a Makers on the rocks. The Makers itself was $5.50. And there was a separate entry for "Rocks - $1". Seriously? You're going to charge a buck for a glass of ice? Next time I'll just ask for an ice water and dump it out in the restroom. In short, come here for the amazing food with a coke. If you order alcohol, you're setting yourself to be cheated.

Mokka is a great breakfast/brunch spot. I've never gone here for any other meal (and don't plan to). The food is solid - especially the french toast, the breakfast sandwich, and the breakfast quesadillas. Don't come here if you want a quiet, romantic breakfast spot. This place is lively and pretty loud. Serving staff is friendly in general, but nothing over the top. Come here for good food, good value, and a fun brunch atmosphere.

Ahh Mokka. Where to start. I have brought countless friends and family members here for some perfectly satisfying breakfast, because I know there's no way they won't love it (unless they're an alien, always possible..) The first time I went was because of a recommendation of the French Toast. The many Yelp reviews about it do not lie; the stuff is magical. I have tried many other things on the menu, most recently the Goetta Avalanche. Talk about satisfying! The goetta was done to perfection, and all the ingredients made my breakfast palate a smorgasbord of amazingness. I must admit, I have never been there at night for the "Sunset Grill". More than likely because if I walk in the door not expecting coffee or bloody mary, something's not right. At times, the service and food can take a little longer than expected, but all good things come in good time my friends. Sabali! Whether hungover or simply ready to start a big day, Mokka is the first thing to pop into my mind (and my stomach)!

Having being a server, one of my pet peeves is waiting too long. I completely understand being busy and trying to take care of alot of people, but it was kinda ridiculous. We sat at the bar because the hostess was taking too long to get tables ready, thinking we were skirting the long wait times. Unfortunately, I don't think they have a bartender on Sunday mornings. So they gave us a waiter who had tables all over the restaurant, and she was having a difficult time getting to everyone. I only received one refill on my coffee and had to flag her down to pay. I was close to just dropping $20 on the bar and leaving, hoping that it covered the bill. The girls sitting next to me were complaining that it took 10 minutes for anyone to get them a coke. That being said, the food was pretty decent. I got a California Fritatta, my girl got the salmon breakfast with capers (i forget the name). She raved on and on about her food saying it was the best smoked salmon she's had. The fritatta was fluffy and had fresh ingredients, tasty. The side potatos reminded me of every other places breakfast potato cubes. Nothing to write home about. I'll eat there again, but only when I have 1.5 hours to kill for breakfast, which unfortunately isn't too often.

Karaoke starting at 9. I'm just here for my black and bleu burger. Our waitress was so nice and funny. The price is more than great for the quality of food. Great selection on beers :) Down side to our visit: Took longer than 20 minutes to get our food and one of the guys at the bar didn't know what kinds of beer they had. Needless to say, it took a while for the drinks to come out too.

Had a restaurant.com cert and enjoyed the great happy hour drink specials and burgers. The bartender was great and let us sample a weird salmon-infused vodka (Alaska Distillery). It was weird, but maybe when I'm feeling a little crazy I would figure out a drink mix for this one. Anyways, this place is praised for it's brunch which one day I might try if I can get out of bed early enough on a weekend. This place appears to have really great discounts on various nights so pick a night and visit.

Mokka is the best place to catch a lazy breakfast. And because of how many people they pack in at this local meeting-place, I highly emphasize taking a lazy approach to getting here, as sometimes the line can reach the sidewalk. But park your keister early in the day, because Mokka's strength is in their breakfast menu. The few times I've been served their lunch and dinner, I've felt there was much to be desired. But they still offer a full bar with great promotional nights, and an exciting place to catch games if you're not out of bed before the sun sets. And of course nobody can leave without trying the french toast, a little specialty of theirs. Though personally I'm more of a "breakfast club" kinda guy. (but hold the tomato, and the Judd Nelson jokes) Additionally, Mokka serves up a great slice of goetta. The biggest thorns in my side of this establishment have been the service. It seems like you can't go wrong sitting in the side sans bar, but you'll be left with a long wait depending on where and who's on the schedule that night. Again, lazy breakfast.

Thursday night. 6:30. Crowded. No tables were available. We sat at the bar after finally realizing no one was going to even try to seat us. I suppose it is a seat yourself place, but a sign would have helped. The service was the lowest point for me. Too long to get a drink, too long to get a menu, too long to take our order. Sat with half eaten entrees in front of us for a good 15 minutes. I have a weakness for Kentucky Hot Browns so I had to try it. It was unconventional in the fact that I am accustomed to the bread being toasted, and the tomatoes being slices rather than diced. The turkey was good, but a little thicker cut of it than I would like. I give them an 'A' for making it their own while staying within the traditional realm. Ok, enough about the Hot Brown. We had the creamy pesto dip. It is a layer of sundried tomatoes, a layer of basil pesto, and a final layer of melted goat cheese. It is served with both crispy and doughy pita. It was tasty. Entrees come with a salad. I appreciate the fact that it was mixed greens served with a small piece of garlic toast rather than the ubiquitous iceberg. My partner's Mediterranean pasta was overloaded and overwhelmed with red onion. He picked them out and set them aside... something I had never seen him do. I noticed Jagermeister shots were served in small plastic opaque cups. Not really upscale. I don't think the persons receiving those shots would have appreciated the bartender picking up multiple cups at a time by sticking her fingers down into the cup. The regulars seemed to really like it here. But unless there's a band playing that I really want to see, I will unlikely pay them a second visit.

The best thing about Mokka: $5 Thursdays. Five bucks for almost anything on the menu. Detracting factors include incredibly slow service and so-so food--even for a place like Mokka. I've heard their Mokka French Toast is off the hook, but haven't tried it.

This breakfast/brunch/lunch only place has changed locations, so reviews prior to 2008 are probably for the previous location. It's now located next the the Syndicate, apparently around the corner from before. Unfortunately, there is no outside seating now. I'm torn about what to say about this place. The food, when we finally got it, was very good! I had the breakfast wrap which was a unique combination of chicken, brie cheese, walnuts and raisins. Very different and yet tasty. It came with a side of potatoes or fruit and I chose fruit, which was rather small but contained honeydew, watermelon, cantaloupe and a strawberry or two. My husband had the breakfast quesadilla, which is cheese, bacon, etc. in a tortilla and topped with an egg cooked to your liking. He chose his egg over easy. His dish was accompanied by sour cream and salsa. It was a generous sized dish and was also very tasty. However (you knew that was coming, right), we waited up front to be seated while it appeared the hostess stalled to get tables ready. I don't know if the kitchen was behind or if they were short on wait staff, but it was obvious that something was going on. I'm sure we waited over 20 min. on our food, with no explanation or apology. It was also very noisy; lots of families with small children. So, the food was 4 stars, the environment 2...I'll give it a 3.

Important to note-the bar side is smoking, the other side is not, and during brunch at least (maybe every morning, not sure) there is no smoking until the afternoon. The first visit was for dinner, or the Sunset Bar & Grill version of this place. We sat at the bar while waiting for the rest of our party. The beer selection was decent enough. We sat down at a table on the non-smoking side when our group arrived. Our server was friendly, but didn't offer more than an "it's good" with the couple of questions we had. When I'm trying to compare two meal choices, I'd like to hear more than "they're both pretty good". I ended up choosing the sunset salad, which has chicken, goat cheese, bunch of other stuff. It was okay. Everyone liked their food, but none of us left feeling wowed. Brunch at Mokka (same building, different meal/time) was fantastic! French toast was worth the rave reviews it's received. The goetta was cooked perfectly, with crispy edges. The portions here for brunch are HUGE-my french toast came with goetta and their breakfast potatoes, which were just the right amount of spicy. The line/wait for brunch was pretty long, so show up early if you can. The service was a bit on the slow side for coffee refills, but our server was really nice about it and obviously pretty busy. Bottom line-a definite winner for brunch/breakfast food. I would try dinner here again, but it was pretty underwhelming the first time. If you do come for the Sunday brunch, get here early to avoid the crowd.

It taking this down to a 3 (last time I reviewed they were in the old space, the one even before the old Syndicate which was super homey). I feel it is waaay too loud in this restaurant and the food is fine. If it wasn't for the location being central for meeting people from different areas in the tri-state it wouldn't be on my radar.

Tried their Sunday brunch. Great one of a kind menu items for brunch. Service was outstanding, and friendly. Food was great. You can't get a better value, in a relaxed friendly place like this. Flat screens for sports too!

Heard wonderful things about their brunch, but I absolutely loved their dinner. Excellent high quality bar food at reasonable prices. Our loaded waffle fries were decadent, and my entree, the goetta hoagie was fabulous. My mother had a stuffed pork chop that was out of this world. Excellent beer selection as well and friendly staff. Will absolutely return. Seems like all the negative reviews are from uptight weirdos. Support this great place!

My husband and I were there while on vacation. The food was really very good, but the service was painfully slow. I had french toast and my husband had chicken salad, both were excellent. I would recommend only going there if you have plenty of time.

Stopped here on a really busy Sunday morning - given the poor reviews the service here has had, I was prepared to wait. Nope. Great food (pumpkin french toast, perfectly cooked goetta) and excellent service - my food was there before I finished the front page section of my paper. Attentive server, everything arrived hot. Waited about 10 minutes for a table but line moved quickly. Worth 5 stars!

We took my grandma here for her birthday on a Saturday night and had reservations for 6pm. Our table was ready when we got there, so that was a plus. However, there were many things that did not go so well from there. I am usually pretty easy to please and have only sent my food back 2 times in my entire life. This being one of those times..... My dad and I both ordered the Turkey Burger. He ordered his with no green onions and when his arrived, there were green onions cooked into the meat. He said it was okay, but it would have been nice knowing that when he said no onions. Anyways, I took a bite and had to spit it out. My turkey burger was pink inside. I looked at my dads and his was white, as it should be and is every time I have cooked them or ordered them at restaurants. I don't know about you, but with turkey it needs to be cooked all the way through, so I sent it back. 10 minutes later my turkey burger returned, the same one I sent back so I took another bit in another spot and yes still pink inside. I once again told my server I could not eat this and she got a manager I think, or it might have been another server as she herself was waiting tables. Anyways, the manager came to me and said the reason it was pink is that it is a blend of turkey, not just the breast, but there was fat and other parts mixed together. I know what ground turkey is and I told her when compared to my dads which was cooked there was a big difference. She then said no he had a different type of burger, it was different and we again said no we ordered the same thing. Honestly you are going to argue with me that your pink turkey burger is cooked and that I was wrong? It was gross, I honestly was scared to eat it fearing I would get sick. I ended up getting the BBQ bacon burger and it was really good. Our actual server felt awful and I know it was not her fault, she was very nice and did a good job. But I am disappointed in the manager for instead of just apologizing and taking care of it, her telling me that I was wrong and my burger was really okay to eat and was supposed to be that way, just made me mad. Unfortunately I will not be going here again.

My husband and I recently went to Mokka for breakfast. It was our first visit and we will definitely come back. I expected to wait for a table but we were seated immediately. I had the frittata special of the day that was very tasty. My husband ordered the coffee cake special. THAT COFFEE CAKE WAS AMAZING. We would both go back just for coffee cake. We had great service and food. We also had a Living Social coupon that we redeemed with no problem at all. It was great to get good food and to support a local business, We'll be back.

Had the misfortune of going to Mokka today. The quiche special with sweet potato crust was quite possibly one of the worst things I ever ate (or stopped myself from finishing) for breakfast. Also, the bacon was so overcooked it had the texture of stale beef jerky. For a much better quiche go to Annabels in Mt. Lookout - never been disappointed with any of their offerings. Or on Sundays, head to Take the Cake in Northside or Mayberry in downtown Cincinnati.

This is the new location of Mokka that has been reviewed at this link I believe. yelp.com/biz/mokka-newpo… I can only speak to the breakfast restaurant part of Mokka, they appeared to be bi-polar in their business plan: americana type food during the day and bar during the night, not a bad combination. I love their location just two blocks from the Levee and they have a comfortable atmosphere with friendly service. That being said, do not go here if you are bothered at all by SLOW service that is mildly in-attentive. We came in around 1145a on a sunday and were not seated until around 1210p because they were busy as to be expected. Our entire dining experience was about 1.25hrs from that point forward for breakfast. The food was hot and the breakfast potatoes were very good. The pancakes were delicious and the canadian bacon was sliced razor thin. My wife got the special of the day which was also very good (wish I could remember...sorry folks). All of the specials sounded outstanding and overall the food was good. It was a fun place to sit and chill and hang out and talk with our friends. If you like your coffee top'd off Bob Evan's style however, I think you don't want to come here. My cup sat half full to empty most of the time. This place was friendly and the food was good breakfast food but the slow service definitely cost them a star in my book and I am usually very tolerant and patient of service. Mostly street parking, tiny lot.

I took my wife there last night and was pleasantly surprised. I was craving wings and a good stiff drink. We grabbed a booth near the bar and the waiter/bartender came out right away to get our order. My wife had a Captain Morgan and Sprite while I went for Makers Mark on the rocks. My drink was great but my wife's was a little weak, much to my dismay not hers. I ordered a house salad and 10 mild Barbecue wings. My wife had the Mediteranian Pasta. The service was good and the food was great. I couldnt believe the size of the wings. There was a guy playing solo accoustic guitar taking request and he sounded great. The prices were good and atmosphere very quaint.

Came here for lunch with friends for the first time the other day. We were nursing hangovers so right away we ordered bloody Mary's - spicy and delicious! Ordered the loaded nachos, they weren't anything special but definitely hit the spot. I ordered a good ol' cheeseburger that was absolutely perfect! My sister ordered the cold-smoked salmon sandwich with capers and raved about it. Other orders at our table included wings and the meatloaf sandwich. Everyone loved their food and drinks. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was it seemed like there weren't enough waitresses in the floor - they didn't have a bartender on duty so drinks took a really long time & checks were slow to come. They either need to pick up the pace or get more waitresses so there's not so much waiting.

The most amazing French toast on this side of the country. Cute. Quaint. Awesome cappuccino. Definite must!

Mokka is a delightful brunch location for delicious, unique, and well portioned brunch treats. Their claim to fame is probably their signature Mokka French toast which is 3 slices of corn flake battered french toast, creme bruleed pastry cream, and bananas. It comes with their potatoes which are pretty much perfect as each piece is nice and crispy on it's own. If you haven't been here before - this is the dish to try. On the one page menu, there are other items like your standard waffles, frittatas, and even goetta grilled cheese sandwiches. But in addition to that, there are "excellent selections of the day" (as Eric B calls them). These are specials that are really quite special. For example, on that day, there were breakfast egg rolls and pumpkin strata as additional choices. With so many choices, how can one decide?! A big bonus at Mokka is that they let you substitute the meat that comes with most dishes with fruit. Having fruit plus just the right portion of sweet and delicious goodness makes me feel a lot less guilty about coming here again=)

I have been here numerous times...The old location was much smaller, but it had more character to being a breakfast place. The new location (why they picked it? I don't know) is in a nightclub/reception hall. The inside doesn't match the type of food being served. But anyway.... Get the French Toast, get a yogurt sundae...If someone in your party doesn't get these, then you will miss out on a great experience. The wait can be a while, just be patient. It is worth it. I promise.

Look... This place might be fine most of the time, but I got a shrimp quesadilla on "special" once and lemme tell ya... by the time I got home, I was running in my door praying that I reached the bathroom in time. I don't think it's too much to ask that the "special" isn't just past due proteins that they are trying to get rid of. I sincerely hope this was just a one time mistake, but I doubt I will return... Bad memories.

My wife and I got there earlier than our friends and were sitting in the middle of the bar, but when our friends arrived decided to move to the corner of the bar by the door so we could see each other and talk. I went to Mokka on a Friday night, which happen to be $9.00 fajita night. I decided to order them. They were o.k. What can you expect for $9.00? Better than this, Rio Grande maybe. My friends liked there entrees (burgers). Seems like burgers are their thing. Tap beer selection was of local, import and domestic. Prices were fair. The gentleman with the dark short hair was our bartender. I was a bartender and am still a server and I was less than impressed with his service. I had to ask for my second beer and the whole time he kept looking at the people in the middle of the bar, at one point I thought they stole something. I probably would have chosen a different entree if I could have asked him a few question but by the time he got our dinner order I was hungry and would have eaten anything. I might try it again becuase I know we have bad days. I will say for being in the bar (not that busy) I didn't even notice that there were smokers in the room, great ventilation. I am an ex-smoker who doesn't mind people smoking though, but I do have a good nose.

My friend and I had breakfast outdoors on the patio at Mokka this past Saturday morning. I had the day's special frittata with red and yellow peppers, a fruit salad, and split an order of french toast with creme brulee sauce with my breakfast partner. The coffee was good, which I insist on in a breakfast nook, and the french toast was worth the mile or so drive off the interstate. The service was friendly and although our waitress was taxed to her limits she managed.

My kids (11 &9) and I, have a day in Newport every summer, and try to do it more than once a summer. After the aquarium, Gameworks, taking in the view, we walk to Mokka for lunch. I always have the Mokka french toast and the kids have chicken fingers and waffle fries. We love this place because it is the best French toast and 'world's greatest waffle fries'. I think I had slow service one time, but that's gonna happen from time to time. The food memories are stronger than the one time service was slow.

Simple menu but good food. I live literally up the street and go there on a regular basis. Service is usually fast and friendly. I usually stop at the coffee shop across the street (Mammoth Coffee) for a latte and then walk to Mokka for the food. If you're visiting, try the goetta avalanche. That's a Cincinnati favorite.

on a recent trip to cincy to relive my dad's adolescence there and take in the civil rights baseball game and the underground railroad freedom center, i used yelp to find a breakfast place. i was surprised at how few places in cincy and the surrounding area are open before 11am on a sunday. in chicago, the breakfast/brunch "industry" is huge! mokka was one of only a few options and the positive reviews beckoned us across the river to KY. i guess more folks go to church in KY and cincy. ;) mokka is clearly a bar at night, as proven by the taps and triangle flag-things on the walls. so the decor left a bit to be desired for breakfast. we were lucky and arrived just after 9am, so we were seated right away. it was father's day so i expect that more folks eat out that day, but a line of more than a dozen people quickly formed after we were seated. a few tables were pushed together and reserved for a party at 10am and they didn't even try to seat a party or two at those tables and try to get them out by 10am. (that wouldn't happen in chicago. no reservations at the popular joints and even if there were, they would seat people there first.) the server couldn't have been nicer, but as the other reviews stated, the wait for food was shockingly long for the simplicity of the food itself. the menu is pretty simple too, maybe 12 options including the much touted banana french toast, frittatas, omelets, etc. my parents both had a frittata (my dad the 3-meat and my mom a vegetarian one) and they agreed that the flavors were great. however, the frittata itself was really small and it only came with a tiny fruit cup (or potatoes, which none of us ordered). (my dad is a 200 pound guy and he was visibly sad when his plate arrived, not because it looked bad, only because it looked small and he takes breakfast really seriously. he likes to start his day with a big, not a heavy, breakfast.) it was not really what you would call chicago-style portions. my parents called the waitress back after seeing the serving size and both ordered toast to fill up on. i ordered the goetta avalanche which was scrambled egg with 2 cheeses, between slices of goetta (southern meat & oat patty which is fried) on an english muffin served with a slice of tomato, some mixed greens and a spicy vinagrette. my meal was more substantial in terms of size and i enjoyed the flavor combination. people who are intimidated by goetta are just being snotty-it's tasty and mokka's goetta was not greasy. the cofee was good and plentiful. this place would be much improved if they increased their seating area & staff, hired more cooks to expedite the time from order to serving and increased portion size or including multiple sides as a part of the original entree. i enjoyed it, but on my next visit to cincy i will check out the greenup cafe, also in KY.

I love love love this place!! Their prices are so cheap and they include tax. The sandwhiches are amazing and the bread they serve them on is incredible. Mokka also serves breakfast and brunch foods such as salmon avalache (salmon, cream cheese, capers, egg) and the creme brulee french toast. They have a mokkacino which is like a french vanilla cappacinio with whipped cream . .. sooo good! I take everyone here who has never been! The service is friendly and attentive. Downside is they close at 2 or 3 pm, but I still find my way in there before closing time b/c it is worth it!
