I love Casual Chinese. It was voted best of NKY in 2014, and has been my family's go-to Chinese place since we moved to Ft. Thomas when I was a kid. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. Casual Chinese is perfect if you're looking for delicious (albeit greasy) food. Their lunch special is a steal- $4.70 for the same sized dishes as dinner. Even though I've been going here for years, I just ate inside the restaurant this past weekend. It's extremely small on the inside, so I typically order to-go. I've never had an order take more than 20 minutes. The staff is also extremely pleasant.

So far this is the best Chinese place I have tasted. I did notice while inside that it was voted best in the northern kentucky area. The restaurant is kind of small so usually do take out. The people taking my order are always friendly and smiling all the time. I usually come for their lunch special which to me is a great deal compared to other restaurants around the area. I ordered the pepper steak with fried rice. Even though it was the lunch special the portion they serve is enough to have dinner with it!. Definitely come during their lunch hour you will not regret it.

Tofu vegetable dish, it was pretty bad. Chicken chow mien was worse. Not sure how you screw up fried rice but they did. But, Cashier was very friendly, clean place, I might try it again if I'm desperate and I'll order fried chicken.

I will just reiterate a lot of what the other people said about this place. The place is a small resturant. If you are looking for atmosphere is not the place. This is for people grabbing take out and people eating on the their lunch break. Everything is dated

Surprise Blown away by the Pad Thai...actually great heat and flavor and one plae is still going home for dinner. This was my third visit and I still get surprised by the quality and freshness. The staff is quite friendly and the prices are great especially during lunch

They tried to charge me like 8 bucks or something for delivery and that didn't include tip so I just went to pick it up. Fried rice was yucky I actually spit it out. Szechuan chicken wasn't very good either. Pad tai is ok nothing special kind of plain. The only thing we had that was good was the dumplings they are huge. I would not recommend this place.

The cashier was eating between bagging meals. Then he wipes his mouth with his arm and then reached for the tongs. I yelped " wash your hands before you touch my food" this jarred my memory and I recalled that guy doing that months ago and I yelled at him then too. I won't be back because you can't trust the cleanliness.

I was excited to try a new place. I'll keep this simple. 1. Little or no delivery options despite what the site says. 2) claims to accept competitors coupons, did not accept a coupon at check out and all but screamed at me for asking. 3) ordered gen tso and Orange chix, get home they are both Orange chix with some "hot" peppers put in the other container 4) crab Rangoon is horrible I've had better from the frozen food section. Not worth the drive to pick up or the almost $30 charged. Keep looking if you are in the fence..

Good late night/Worknight Chinese takeout place. The sesame chicken is actually real white meat chicken from what I can tell and the sauce was delicious. The only criticism for this place would be the fried rice....it was terrible. But, the order was ready in 10 minues and the food was piping hot. This will be my go-to Chinese takeout place when I'm in the area.

Used to be good but has gone downhill. Advertises delivery but every time I have tried to place a delivery order they tell me they don't have a driver.

Normally I like the food here. But, the last few times I've been there the food has been average at best. Any beef dish has been mostly vegetables. Very little beef. $9 is a lot for sliced onions. If you stuck to chicken the food is ok. I would steer people away from the Thai dishes. They really aren't good.

I'm going to be fair. I give this place four stars out of the take-out category in the Cinci area. It's quick, fairly priced, and the meat is actually "real." At least particularly the beef, and arguably the chicken as well. We came for a quick dinner and I ordered the garlic with chicken and the green bean with beef. Out of their extensive menu, these entrees were from their "traditional chinese" category, and started from ~$8 to ~$12 depending on what kind of meat you wanted to add. The garlic with chicken was really good and piping hot, while the green bean with beef was good but unlike other dishes I've had. It was similar to sweet and sour sauce, so if you dig that, you'll dig this. If I was craving Chinese, I'd probably come here. They deliver under certain circumstances...within 3 miles. And, no tip necessary, they say.

I started out going to Casual Chinese for lunch when I worked at the downtown Staples just across the river some 10 years ago. And I just started going back there because I'm tired of crappy Chinese food from the joint in my neighborhood. And the same lovely people who used to take my order are still there! They even remembered me even after all this time. Tonight I got my favorite, Chinese chicken curry with fried rice, wonton soup, and an egg roll. And I have to say I nearly blissed out on the egg roll alone. They have the best egg rolls in town. Crisp veggies, perfectly fried wrapper, and just enough seasoning. Their wonton soup hasn't changed a bit in a decade. The wontons are a mouthful, the pork filling is very meaty and seasoned well. And the broth is worth having by itself. The chicken curry I get as hot as their cooks are willing to make it. And yet despite nearly blistering your tongue, it doesn't spoil the flavor of the chicken. The veggies are crisp and crunchy, and the chicken is cooked thoroughly, and without the baking soda wash most Chinese restaurants commonly use. And I've never had a meal that disappointed when I've gone to Casual Chinese. Unfortunately you sometimes see detractors such as Dan M. who throw out unfounded claims based on stereotypes. Having been a customer for years, I can attest to Casual Chinese getting their foodstuffs from reputable and reliable sources. Just last week I saw one of the owners dropping off a load of fresh produce from a well-known local produce wholesaler. Everything was name-brand grade A produce as good as you'd find going into the kitchens of a Perkins on up to The Golden Lamb. So you won't find any food of questionable origin here unless you bring it in yourself. Its no wonder they've won awards for having the best Chinese takeout in town.

I've eaten from here three times and last night was the last time I'll order from them. I always try to give a place a fair shot, but I was not impressed at all. I ordered the Mongolian triple and received an entire container of onions with very little beef instead... They even wrote the correct menu item number on the container. The rice was also damn near inedible. There was no amount of soy to save that mess. I threw away most of my meal and made a sandwich.

The chicken Lo Mein was so bland my 4 year old wouldn't eat it. Very few veggies and the chicken was overlooked and tough. The Kung Po Chicken tasted like it came out of a box meal. The chicken was tough, very few veggies and NO peanuts. Rice was a joke. It was cold, slimy, and hard. Would not waste my money going back there.

I've lost my appreciate for Chinese food, but if sick wife wants sick wife gets. For her Chinese is the surest way to bust a cold. So I took down what the family wanted and headed over there with a book to get a little reading down while I waiting. This is your typical strip mall fronted take out. No one usually sits. It's probably 90% take out. The chairs and tables are bolted to the floor in two parallel rows. Every place has these. It was late on a Sunday. What took me back was how clean the place was. The only thing I could find on the floor was an ice cube that had just recently fallen. It wasn't just swept but scrubbed. Kitchen looked the same way. Clean, Clean, Clean. This hasn't always been the case with Chinese places I've experienced before. Especially if run by the Chinese owner like this place seemed to be. Their standards are not our standards. I'll leave it at that. But this place was great. The order taker was quick. The food serviceable.

Great lunch, cheap eats, made fresh and fast. Maybe a little heavy on the sliced mushrooms, but some people would consider that a positive. Channeling Arnold here, "I'll be back ".

This restaurant serves cheap and delicious Chinese food in Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky just south of the Ohio River. It has the best Pad Thai I've ever had--even better than some Thai restaurants... The owners are also really friendly. The husband often wears a Cincinnati Reds cap. It's located in the far left of the shopping center. There's a Blockbuster Video and Remke Supermarket in the shopping center, I believe.

This is a strip center small "order at the counter" place. Ordered hot and sour soup ($1.95). It had a metallic taste and was underwhelming. I ordered Pad Thai with Chicken. It was $10.95 and that is what most sit down and more well kept places charge so I had high expectations. It came in a styrofoam container with the lid on. Inside was a mound of white noodles in a puddle of liquid. Now we all know rice noodles are white, but they shouldn't be after prep and seasoning. The chicken appeared to be all white meat, the scrambled egg ok. I could barely find any bean sprouts, or green onions. Had slices of white onion and lots of shredded carrot. Crushed peanuts on top. Denoted on the menu as a spicy dish, there was little or none. I can only guess these noodles were "braised" in the non-colored liquid and what was left was poured into the styrofoam with the noodles. Funny, it was not actually a throw away dish and had some flavor but far from authentic and definitely not worth $10.95.

Very convenient for me coming from work in Mt Auburn across the river and the quick service doesn't hurt either! I love the reasonable prices and the generous portions. The staff are quite friendly and are good at what they do. I recommend the Pad Thai (a personal favorite that I try anywhere I can get it). Eating in can be a gamble as there aren't many seats and if you end up in a seat by the door in the cold weather months, be prepared to shiver. The bathrooms could use a little modernizing but are generally clean.

This is classic Chinese takeout food, reasonably priced and good as long as you stick to the menu items you would see in any Chinese restaurant like sweet and sour pork, egg rolls, fried rice etc. The other items like their Thai dishes do not look or taste like anything out of a good Thai restaurant. They have some great lunch specials, a good place place to go after shopping in Newport.

Hidden away behind Remke's and Sears in Carothers Road shopping center. Friendly owners, and the food is not bad at all. Delicious won-ton soup, good eggrolls. I didn't think the Szechuan chicken I ordered was very spicy, but it tasted good nonetheless. Reasonable prices. Sporadic delivery with $20 minimum, which frankly is a deterrent never to have food delivered. (NKY desperately needs a Chinese take-out that delivers good food for a reasonable price.)

I hope it was a fluke, I really do, but as of mid-2008 I was served the worst damn Chinese food I've ever had. We ordered pan-fried dumplings and pad thai. The dumplings were totally weird and different - normally they are thick-doughed, hand-crimped, porky and well-fried. The plate that was slammed down on our table had these withered, thin, greasy, barely fried things sitting on them. It was so unexpected that my dining partner and I literally looked at each other with our mouths hanging open. The meat inside the dumpling was darker than normal, almost beefy - and most certainly didn't taste like any Chinese dumpling I've ever had. The pad thai was totally and completely without flavor. I wish I were exaggerating. It was a big heap of rice noodles that had been lightly fried in some oil with chicken breast and green onion. Nothing else. At all. Just that. Hopefully Casual Chinese had a hiccup. Otherwise, avoid at all costs.

I love Casual Chinese--found it by accident about 8 years ago when I started venturing out of Covington during lunch. As other posters have mentioned, there is an extensive daily lunch menu, where they offer 5-6 choices per day, all at $4.50 base price (otherwise it is visibly listed) and then just this endless list of "OTHER" lunch specials priced at a base price of $4.60 (and otherwise referenced if more). There is not a day I don't come in that there wouldn't be something I'd want from the menu. Yes, they are clean--very, very clean. And the nicest folks at the counter--they have many regulars--a lady today showed one of the clerk's that she'd gotten her nails 'finally done" and then she asked if the clerk was feeling any better. A very friendly place. They had some difficulty running my debit card (the magnetic stripe works about 90% of the time) and I asked them to simply "key it in" but was told they weren't supposed to anymore because customers then call their banks and say they never authorized the sale! Are you KIDDING me? I can't imagine doing that to these nice folks, but nothing surprises me anymore. The food is fresh, it's fast, it's tasty. Since the only "service" is that they bring you your food, they refuse tipping. I hate that you can't tip them because it's one of the few Chinese restaurants around that I love to go to and actually feel they deserve a little extra than what I'm paying because the prices are VERY reasonable!

Everything about this place is great except the food. My friend adequately described it as "crappy Chinese food of questionable origin." Sometimes you want that sort of Chinese. I almost never do. They'll fry you up a gloppy General Tso's or cook up some beef & broccoli, but it will be very Americanized. Bottom Line: I'll stick to one of the good Thai places instead of diving for Americanized Chinese.

Casual Chinese is perfect if you are looking for tasty, fast, and cheap Chinese. There's a pretty large menu selection and the staff has always been very friendly. The bulk of the restaurant traffic is for take-out, as the dine-in space is small. If you ask for extra spice, they will give it to you, which I love! Nothing fancy, just great portions for a great price!

I have called three times on different days of the week, at different times, to be told they don't have a delivery driver available. This should not be considered a delivery joint, and for dine-in, the food at the place next to Kroger is better. Don't eat here!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
