Okay, so the food isn't great. Honestly, look at this place, it doesn't have ANY pretensions about what it is, and if you think you are coming here for the food, you need to rethink your priorities. This is the motherload of beers. If you have so many that you might need a microwave soft pretzel or a mediocre taco, then you have that, but come for the beer, stay for the beer. And don't expect to find too many of the usual suspects, have your adventure panties on when you duck into Sergio's for a beer. If someone thinks the staff is surly then they probably ordered a Budweiser. I'm nearly ignorant about almost everything but I tell the bartenders what kinds of beers I like and they enthusiastically pick a winner every time. The atmosphere is outdated rec-room meets VFW hall, covered in beer taps, bottles, and coolers. It's a very comfortable and old-school place (cash only, no tabs, honor system). There is a decent mix of people, not too heavily hipster, yuppie, old, young or what-have-you, just beer lovers.

Sergio's houses a wide variety of draft and bottle craft beers. As a beer lover it was hard to make a decision! I would highly recommend "chokolat" by southern tier. The bar is pretty small and there are a couple of tables in the rear portion of the restaurant, but it is unclear whether they are full service as we did not see any signs and were not greeted upon arrival. They do have a full menu, but I did not care for any of the items we ordered (hummus, guacamole, veggie gyros and huevos con chorizo). No complaints regarding bar service.

Best kept secret in Louisville. Good luck finding the place, you will probably pass it up a few times and may wonder into the wrong place, but once you find it the payoff is worth it. If you love craft beers, this is the place for you. Place runs on the honor code, you pick your beers from the fridge, then pay at the end of the night. So many to choose from you will probably need help, luckily Sergio will point you in the right direction.

Our hotel bar-tender talked us into giving this a try, and even for a late Wednesday visit, it did not disappoint. I had read about Sergio's and was really hoping to find some Three Floyds Zombie Dust, but alas, I had to settle with the Alpha King (quite good). Sergio's is like a beer geek flea market with all your standard selects and so many more obscure beers, tucked away in various types of coolers...just wander around and sope it all out or order up from the bartender (ours was very knowledgable)...or order your beer then walk around, take it all in. Cash only, so come prepared.

This may be the greatest place for beer in America. I have no idea what the food's like, but that's not the point. The point is the beer. And this place delivers in spades. This is obviously a labor of love run by people who love what they do and are excited to share it with you. They encourage you to wander around and check out the multiple coolers and refrigerators. There are hundreds and hundreds of different bottles here and a great draft selection. If you're a beer enthusiast you need to make a pilgrimage here. I was in town for another reason, but I would gladly make the three hour drive just to come back here.

Um ... what! This is the perfect beer bar. A hidden oasis of drinking in Louisville. Honestly, I could not have been happier. Let's talk selection. They have over 1,400 beers here! ONE THOUSAND, FOUR HUNDRED UNIQUE BEERS! If that doesn't blow your mind right out of your face, then I don't know what will. Most of the beers are in bottles placed in coolers throughout the building. Just when you think you've seen every beer, you walk a little further and find another cooler full of more beers. More beers I say! You grab a beer from the cooler or from a tap (which they also have many) and go to your seat. I went to pay but was told, "Nope, just remember what you drink. It's the honor system here." Say what!? I did find that it was cash only at the end of the night, so just be warned about that. We even met Sergio (yes, of Sergio's World Beers) and the man is awesome. Friendly, talkative, and even remembered my name at the end of the night as I was walking out. And when he told me to come again, I really felt like he meant it. Huzzah. They have food here, but I didn't try any. A large menu though full of things like gyros and fries and all kinds of food that probably would go well with beer. If you're going for atmosphere, this place isn't it. But honestly, I think I love it even more for that. This is the definition of a hidden gem - you'd drive right by it without blinking. It's not very well lit, there are boxes of beer everywhere, the benches and chairs are old and not stable (mine kept rocking) ... but you know, I loved it even more because of that, not in spite of that. It feels just like I want it to. No frills or thrills, just great beer. This really did feel like the perfect underground beer bar. A secret that you'd only know to check out if someone tells you. And I'm telling you right now. Go my friends. Drink and be merry,

Best Beer selection I have had the pleasure to ever come across. In addition to the wide variety of bottles and beers on draft, the staff (Sergio and Eric the night we were there) posses an encyclopedic knowledge of their inventory. We simply had to tell them what we were looking for and they were able to provide us beers that fit that taste profile. There was a wide assortment of customers and everyone was sociable and friendly. It is truly a hole in the wall from the outside but take the time to find it and I guarantee you will love it.

Sergio's boasts somewhere around 1000 different beers. The owner himself can be found behind the bar on occasion and is a connoisseur of belgians, really all beer, but he seems rather partial to belgians and is more than happy to discuss your tastes and make recommendations as long as it isn't too busy. The food isn't anything to write home about, the food isn't why you go to Sergio's. You go to Sergio's to send your beer snob friends a tipsy text about the beer selection with a photo of the cluttered beer decorum.

Ceviche+hundreds of beers = best damn eatery around. However, I have a disclaimer. This place is damn near impossible to find. Sergio's started when the owner's wife told him he had to get his beer and glass collection out of the house. Soon thereafter he opened up a bar and the rest is history. The bar is a very small space, so be prepared to feel a little cramped, especially during busy hours. That said, this place has the best damn selection of beer I've ever seen. Literally hundreds of beers are available by the bottle and many by the tap. They have stuff from all over the world. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable as well. And then there was food. Sergio's has a chef that makes amazing Ceviche, (which if you've never had, you have to try.) In fact, one of my friend's made an entire meal of it. The only bad part of Sergio's is that we don't have one in Cincinnati.

Great place for any beer advocate! A co-worker brought me to this place and we spent a hour looking through the beer selection (without him showing me this place it would have never been on my radar). They had really good beers on tap, and I found one bud light on sale for 10.00. I'll be back.

If you can find it, you deserve it. And if you've looked for it, you know what I mean! This is one of Louisville's most fabulous places. I LOVE the beer selection, and the food is quite good as well. I like their chicken chimicanga. YUM!

Good ol' Sergio's. I can say this without hyperbole: if Sergio's was anywhere within public transit distance from my house (in Chicago), I would be there at least once a week. Within walking distance, multiple times per week. But I doubt that a bar like this could flourish in a big city. The front feels like someone's living room, only with a small bar and several beer refrigerators; the back is like a cross between a modern speakeasy and a VFW hall. I started off back there because I wanted somewhere quiet to sip my beer and read. As the evening went on and the room filled a bit, it became much more fun to people watch. Then after a while I learned that everyone is a friend in Sergio's back room, myself included. I won't say too much...there may or may not have been a poker game and a lot of off-color humor, but it was just pure, honest, fun camaraderie. I heard some of the funniest lines in my entire life that night, and everyone was really friendly. And oh yeah--the beer. A couple dozen drafts (all good stuff) and hundreds of different bottles (mostly good stuff). To give you an idea of the variety, I counted 17 Bell's labels, some of which I'd never heard of. But after a while, I lost track of what I was drinking. For the most part I was trying new stuff; this joint is great for that: I could probably drink ten different beers a night for several weeks just sampling ones I'd never had before. I can't remember how much it cost either..but who cares? Even if I had sat back there by myself the whole evening, this would still be a solid 4.5. How much you socialize is up to you, but whether you take up with the good ol' boys or sit quietly reading, you can do it while drinking an amazing variety of beers!

In all my talking about bars and beer I have never been to an establishment like Sergio's before. If you know what your expectations should be and you really, really, love beer - then you'll love Sergio's. Easy to find and easy to pass by, Sergio's is located on Story ave. No Sign hangs on the storefront to establish you have reached Sergio's. Every visible window is covered with a flag prohibiting anyone to see in or out of the establishment. The first time I went to Sergio's I walked past it twice thinking the building had to be vacant or used as storage. Here's a pic media1.px.yelpcdn.com/bp… The inside reminds me... like... Pee Wee Herman opened up a bar. Beer is EVERYWHERE! Bottles line the bar. Tap handles circle the parameter in layers. Coolers upon coolers of bottled beer greet you at every corner. I was told Sergio's has 1000 different beers to choose from. Sergio says the number is actually closer to 1,300. YES, 1,300 DIFFERENT beers and all of them craft, or rare, or micro, or import... on and on (they even have Mikkellers on DRAFT!). Pic of the bar media1.px.yelpcdn.com/bp… My friends and I will meet in the back after work on Tuesday for the $2 Two Hearted Ale special. If Tuesday doesn't work for you Sergio's has a beer special for every day of the week. You can go to sergiosworldbeers.com for the list. Anyway, the back room has tables, booths, more coolers and a bunch of random boxes adding to the atmosphere of drinking in a speakeasy, or a friends wreck-room, which I like. It makes the experience more personal. media1.px.yelpcdn.com/bp… Some people have said the staff seemed unfriendly. Not true. They're just a different breed. You might have to initiate conversation but the bartender, or Sergio himself, are more than happy to talk about beer or make a suggestion. The one bartender I usually see, once wore a shirt that read "No Smiling" and I only saw him break that rule twice. But still, he was friendly and helpful. On to the food. Sergio's offers a full menu covering everything from cviche to cheese steak. So far I've only had the wontons and a pretzel. Both ace. media1.px.yelpcdn.com/bp… Even if you don't love beer like I do a trip to Sergio's is worth at least a curios look. How often do you find a bar that's more like a secret club? A bar that only accepts cash, that doesn't keep a tab of what you're drinking, and has customers pay on the honor system. For Louisville, this is certainly a one of a kind. It all makes sense when I think of Sergio's as not a bar but a place to chip in and drink with friends.

Great beer selection. Lots of taps. I didn't realize there was food that the other reviews mentioned. I enjoyed chatting with the bartender who gave me lots of great info on the local area when I was interviewing in Louisville.

I absolutely love Sergio's. The best beer selection around and their pretzels and magic cheese dipping sauce hits the spot with a beer in-hand. Cash only. and although the $3 ATM machine fee goes toward Sergio's son's college fund, it did not dispense my friend's 60 bucks the other night, but still withdrew from her account. Kindly, Sergio resolved the issue by paying it back. So please beware of that machine! Be sure to ask about their specials, as they do not post them but online. As long as I like beer, I will be there.

Commitment. Somewhere along the way we learn what commitment means. As a teen we don't really understand it, but we refute it those in 7th grade who so such commitment in relationships by holding hands in the hallway -- and some of us revere that, others dismiss it. In college we begin to commit to ourselves, and our missions: to grow up, to excel, to sully such an opportunity. Then, after college... life demands commitment. The average life brims with the easier options to commit to: "of course I'll commit to a job that provides me the security to have a home, a dog, a relationship, and TV shows to up the ante of commitment. Or, committing to yourself to lead the life you've always dreamed of -- no matter what it is: a marathon runner, raising a family or being a bachelor(ette) world traveler. Life begs & pleads us to be committed, but it's damn hard to commit to *exactly* what we want for ourselves & for the world. Sergio, you Sir, are committed to your dreams. There is only one way a bar (a house?) can get to 1,400 beers, with nearly 50 draft choices that have proved elusive for others to find & to offer. Sergio might have sacrificed everything to make this place happen. From choosing a location that isn't festooned with any signage to ram shackling furniture and coolers and shelves to sacrificing pragmatism to have every beer have its own unique glass. Other reviews hit the details of what you should know before walking in. I offer though... don't know anything, expect nothing other than a man and his world of beers (well, have cash on you). One day these doors will shutter, and I'd almost expect sooner than later -- however the mention of a "Club" on the front cover of the menu might suggest that Sergio has put together some sort of alliance to keep in tact this refuge of quietude -- literally, they specifically mention that there will not be music here as thoughtful conversation in quiet should be expected, and demanded. As much as Michelin rated chefs who are committed to offal, to their passion, Sergio is committed to offer an experience that you cannot have anywhere else in America. Stop and think about that level of commitment, and your possible experience that you can have nowhere else in the world. When you're there... walk over to the 48 inch big screen tv from 1993 that's turned off & propped in the corner to look at your reflection & realize how perfect -- how very perfect it is to experience such commitment.

This is a MUST if you are a BEER fan. Sergio is the best!!! This place is AWESOME!!! The food is hit or miss, but if you want some really good beer in a great "Whole in the Wall" this is it!!!

Don't let the lack of a sign and the flag covered windows fool you, there is a bar back there. Know your beers and be ready to learn a lot more than you thought you knew from Sergio, who will likely be behind the bar/running the operation. The beer list is the most extensive I have seen, ever, somewhere between 750-1000 beers in the place. Its absolutely incredible, and features the largest selection of Belgian beers outside of Belgium. They have a food menu but we tried only beer, and barely put a dent in the list. Go, but don't order a miller lite.

Great place for beer - Obviously! They have almost every beer you have ever heard of. Bring plenty of CASH! (cause that's all they take!) Food wasn't anything to write home about. Come for the beer and the atmosphere. Good people here.

German beers? Yup. Belgium, Czech, Japanese, Mexican? Yup. Sour, Lambic, Red, Wheat, Bock, IPA. You name it - they've got it. 1,400 beers!! Weirdest beer? So far for me was the Mexican Chili Beer. It had an actual chili pepper in the beer. For who knows how long. Talk about clearing the sinuses! Practical - not so much. But it was the talk of the table. And the table to the left and right of us. The owner is amazing. Super interesting guy. Apparently started it from not much of anything and turned it into one of the top 3 I believe in #beers in the country. Right here in Louisville. What a city! Tip: Really look around. There are coolers EVERYWHERE. Make sure to look in the kitchen and all the way in the back too. A lot of it is sorted by country, and if you have anybody in the group that isn't a big beer drinker there are some great lambics and fruit beers in the Belgium section in the main seating area. Cheers! Beers!!

I've got to be honest... we never made it into Sergios. Coming from out of town we yelped beer bars and Sergios came up. We drove in from downtown louisville and didn't see a sign so we promptly walked right past Sergios to a bar/bait tackle shop on the corner. Immediately we knew we were in the wrong place. But we didn't want to be rude so we ordered a drink. Yea 2 beers and a bottle of water for 3.75. What a deal.... I ended up getting some indigestion so we left after the one drink, and the bartender asked us... "Were you looking for Sergios?" I lied and said "uhhh nooo we totally wanted to come here!, and then was like actually ya.. but this... this was better" Nothing like getting a lil lost in the south... FYI Sergios is not on the corner, and it is covered up w. flags hanging in the window. Maybe one day I'll make it in to the real Sergios, but its neighbor is mighty friendly and one hell of an experience.

One of the best kept secrets in Louisville! This hole in the wall spot that doesn't even have a sign is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. I am not a big beer drinker, but I have found several brews that I really like here. The best part of this spot? Sergio. He is such an interesting man if you have a chance to chat with him. His knowledge of beer is incredible and he has tasted every single one of the over 1,000 beers that he has in stock. If he doesn't have something you want (which is highly unlikely) he will look for it for you and try to get it. When you are looking for a chill and low-key evening look for the flags in the window at Sergios, hole up in a booth and enjoy some exotic beer.

  • M T.

This is a dive into beer Heaven and hell if your on the wagon. You gotta pay in cash but there is the ATM if you leave your cash behind. No signs point to this road so look to the flags in the window to guide you from the street or park in the limited parking in the rear. Security cams on view with beer from front to back. All my friends love the salsa and other stick to your rib items are a good idea when you put down more than a few choice world beers. The best selection served in their very own glasses will expand your beer wisdom. The barkeeps are usually uber beer wise and will help you search out the brew of your mood. Cant wait to go back.

"Here's to women, beer and song.... may none of them be flat." There is nothing flat or unimpressive about this small hole in the wall bar. When you walk in refrigerators of chilled beers line the walls, bottles of beer line the ledges, and then you realize, there are several kegs tapped at the bar. I am by no means a beer lover, but I love drinking beer at this place. Many reviewers will tell you about Sergio, who is always at work, and my story is the same. I have a preference of having a couple favorite brands. Sergio took my likes and interests, listened to me like my best girlfriends, and then offered me new gateway beers to try. If you are new to beer, or interested in trying unique brands, please visit Sergio. You will not be sorry that you did. There is an ongoing joke that their is no terrible domestic here. So strap in and take a more reasonably priced tour of the world through beer. I always love when my beer comes in the specialty brand glass designed for my beer. Despite the hundreds of beer that is carried here, you will find a glass for just about everyone. Sergio will definitely always be my custom glass to any good beer experience.

Hey Sergio it's Damien, I came by tonight w/ my baby niece kathryn and you really did a great job making us all feel welcome. Thank you to you and your crew for good food and great beer. I will most definitely be coming back. P.s. The jesters hat was amazing!

Wow! What a hidden gem! I have driven past this place a million times and I never knew it was there! It looks like a hole in the wall, but once you get inside it is so unique!! If you are a beer lover at all -- this is the place for you!! There are a dozen home refridgerators filled with every kind of beer known to man! Literally!! The owner came by our table and told us about the special of the night-- beef tongue tacos! My husband insisted on trying these after seeing shows on the food network talk about this! I have to admit they were amazing!!! I NEVER thought I would say that!! If your looking for a no frills type of place to just sit back and relax and have some unique beers this is the place for you!!

"If this is the gay bar (Fuzion), I am going to ditch you here so they can eat you alive" I tell my friend who lead me to Sergio's World Beers. There's only one sign outside the store and it says "Fusion". How peculiar. And the windows are completely covered with flags. How suspicious. We brace ourselves and walk in to the bar. Wow. A person with Beer OCD decided to open a store here. This is beer drinker's heaven, but don't bring your stuck-up bitch girlfriend here. She'll probably frown at the smell of used oil and dirt in the glasses. And god forbids we see that look on her face, amirite?

Not sure how to describe Sergio's to someone else. My friends raved about the selection for a while, but I thought, "Surely they can't have THAT great of a selection. I've been to plenty of places with a big beer selection." I shouldn't have been so quick to judge: this is like a beer museum, like the basement of that weird uncle of yours who really loves beer and everything about beer - a little disorganized, but full of beer paraphernalia. I've been to plenty of places where I stumbled across 2-3 beers I'd never seen before. Sergio's has at least 30 I'd never heard of, and that was with a fairly cursory perusal of their coolers. Pricing's great, too. No attempts to make you pay for them to carry all that weird inventory. ...And everyone who works here knows and loves beer. If you want something, just describe what you like, and they'll guide you. Excellent bar staff. The Mexican restaurant is weird. Not sure what that has to do with beer. Ambience is definitely lacking back there. Not sure about ratings. For total beer nerds: 4.5 stars with bit for ambience. For non-beer nerds: 4. Dock .5 for the weird Mexican place? Minus one point for not taking credit cards. (Hello, 1995. Hello, tax evasion.) P.S. There's a small parking lot around back if you can't find something on the street. Go through the building closest to the lot - the one that's completely unmarked as having anything to do with Sergio's.

Soooooo....finally checked this place out with a co-worker! It was nuts! I felt like I was in my grandparents' basement from the 60s, with vinyl-coated tables and chairs. There were hundreds of taps all over the walls, and lots of beer posters. No sign on the outside - you've just gotta know where it is. Sergio was SO friendly, and it was cool - either choose from the draft list, or rifle through the various coolers to choose a bottle (all prices are marked on there). It was really relaxed too, when we went to pay, he was like "what did you have"? Fortunately, we only had 3 beers each, so could remember. Every beer had its own specialty glass - and I love that kind of touch. The food menu was kind of weird. We got a couple of appetizers to share (chili wontons and pretzel with "magic cheese"). Neither were impressive, so I will choose something else next time! Unbeatable beer selection, chill vibe - what's not to love?

  • Beth M.

Well I'll just reiterate what everyone else has said...this place is awesome. They have around 25 beer on tap plus around 4 refrigerators scattered throughout with hundreds of other labels. They have great specials (like Tuesday night $2 Two-Hearted...one of my all-time favorite) during the week. I haven't treid the food, but maybe next time I'll have to. As for the place itself, it is kind of hard to find...just look for the flags hanging in the window! Or, if you want lot parking, turn just after it and go around to the back for a free lot!

"Meet me at Sergios in 10, kay?" Nectar to my ears. I love Sergio's. I came here on my birthday with a friend of mine - beer aficionado- that (I believe) only came to Louisville to visit me just for this place. Sergio's got some primo stuff, but you have to talk about the esoteric beer knowledge to prove yourself enough to go behind locked doors and inside the walk-ins. Sergio does it (with his awesome Brazilian cap and all) for the love of the game (the game meaning beer). Meanwhile, everything that's out is good enough to assuage the needs of us wannabes. On a side note, I loved the garlickyness of his guacamole. Odd menu choices indeed. If you love beer, like really really love it, you'll love Sergio's.

One word describes this place...Awesome. I'm so lucky that I live so close to this bar. This bar has the most amazing, eclectic beer selection ever. Side note: Please don't come here if you want a Bud Light or Mike's Hard Lemonade, this is not the place for that. If you are a beer connoisseur, as I sometimes like to think I am, then you will simply love this place. Sergio's has over 1000 different types of beers, so you could go here everyday for years and not taste the same beer twice, if you so choose. If you feel overwhelmed by the massive beer selection like I did, not to worry, the staff is very courteous and friendly and will help you find a beer that will suit your needs. Sergio's also offers a various selection of food, but don't come here on an empty stomach. I found the food to be decent. It definitely tasted better after a few drinks, but hey...what doesn't. The atmosphere of the bar is very inviting. There is plenty of space at the bar to hang out, and there are also plenty of tables and chairs throughout to hang out and talk. There isn't loud music blaring in the background, so it' s a fantastic place to take someone to get a few drinks and talk about your day, other people, unicorns, or discuss how you could care less about the Kardashian's wedding. As far as location goes, this place can be tricky to find. There is no sign on this place anywhere, you kind of just have to know where it is. There are international flags hanging in the windows of this establishment, and that is how you know you have arrived. Sergio's doesn't really have a parking lot either, but it's usually not too hard to find parking on the street. If you are a pro at parallel parking then you should have no problem finding a parking spot. Another important fact is they only accept cash here, so keep that in mind. They do have an ATM in the bar, but it does charge a $3.00 fee. I definitely recommend Sergio's World Beers. Superb beer selection, inviting atmosphere, and decent food...what more could you ask for?

Possibly my favorite beer place in the whole world. Excellent selection, great philosophy (take beer from fridge, pay on honor system), solid food (get the queso dip), picnic benches, surly servers. It's like drinking beer at your friend's house with an endless supply of stellar intoxicants. 10 stars!

Support this guy. Even if you hate beer- pay Sergio a visit bc he is like the Rain Man of beer and he will change your world...of beer. After 3 or 4 visits myself (other side of town or it would be much more,) here's what I recommend- first, take a lap around the place just to appreciate what you're dealing with. Yup, you counted right, that's a butt-ton of beer selection. Don't forget to look in the kitchen, bc yes thats where even more selection resides. Ok, second, take a deep breath and don't pass out from sheer overwhelmation (coining that fictitious word.) This place tends to make you feel like a little speck of dirt in an eternally infinite universe, bc numbers, countries, cultures, histories, time, space, continuums tend to start to reel through your brain all amounting to "holy crap how am I EVER going to make a decision?" So to repeat step 2- breathe and don't pass out. On to step 3, walk up to Sergio and say Hi. The rest will work itself out. He will put you at ease in a very friendly and welcoming manner, and you should ask his recommendation for your favorite type of beer, or list of flavors, and/or price range. He will ask you a few more questions to narrow down his recommendation then tell you from memory exactly which room, which cooler, which row, and which isle that particular beer is. After the first brew, you will love this place, and with the (generally high gravity) liquid confidence-booster coursing through your system you may even feel a bit adventurous and demand of Sergio, "yes just like that, only take me up a notch, let me know what you REALLY wanted to show me, after you eased me in a bit, I'd appreciate it." Do note: this is a CASH ONLY dive bar. Nothin' fancy like credit card machines, just an incredible selection of delicious beers. There is an ATM, but avoid the $3.00 service charge by coming prepared. Oh haha I've wanted to try this but didn't want to risk getting kicked out: someone please ask for a Bud Light. Please!

Great beer selection, eclectic crowd, mediocre to poor food, strange venue, great staff. Reminds me of dining in someone's half finished basement... but if you're really into beer and getting a wide selection, this is definitely the place. Not much to say about the frozen/microwaved pretzel appetizer, nor the general dining selection.

Everyone has said it already, Sergio's rules. Hands down the best bar for beers anywhere near Louisville. An amazing tap list, and the bottle list is extremely lengthy. Beer specials every day (2$ Two Hearted Tuesdays!!!), and an extensive food menu (the chile wontons are delicious). Others have said it is hard to find, but just look for the flag-covered windows, a beer haven awaits within. Scouts honor.

My homie took me through this oasis for two-hearted tuesday and I was blown away, kind of like Giorgio Tsoukalos' hair. Endless bottle selection with a massive tap offering to match. Coming from NYC, this easily killed it way harder than spots like Spuyten Duyvil and Beerkraft in selection, crowd and chill vibes from the staff. Sergio's is my new hometown hero. Update: Despite adjusting to his 'honor system' tab, it seems like he charges whatever he wants to whoever he wants; ie regulars get a lower price. Hmm. For the most part: fuck yes, Sergio's.

Unbelievable Beer Selection! They also pour the beer into the appropriate glass which is nice, not just a lame pint. The place is overwhelming, it just keeps going with more coolers in the back and fridges from home that are stocked full of the most exotic beers selection you will probably ever find. Bartender with the cool mustache was helpful and pleasant. The place is super cluttered with randomness, just walk around and snoop while enjoying your beer. I was there midweek around 4-5pm and we needed some music, just some background jams. I didn't ask about a jukebox, but it was a little boring without some tunes. The place is very cool overall and will blow the mind of any beer fan brought there!!

Amazing beer selection. Sergio certainly is passionate about beer! He's fun, too. Very eccentric in a charming way. The food is great too, especially the ceviche. SOOO MANY TAPS cash only but there's an ATM in the bar. Don't come here looking to drink cheap nasty beer because he will laugh you out. The men's room has a collection of bottles of beer that taste like pee (bud light, high life, etc.)

Amazing beer selection and I love how it was almost a secret treasure hunt to find this place. Don't let it deceive you when you walk in, it's not that small just walk to the left of the bar and there's ample seating in the back. If they're busy you won't get a waiter unless you're a regular so introduce yourself as a new person to a person near the bar and they will get you to someone who can take your order and help you decide. I knew what kinds of brew I liked and I told the guy and he grabbed a couple of beers thy both ended up being amazing, then personally brought us our food and sat down to talk to us. Really awesome place definitely will be back.

Sergio's World Beers is one of my favorite places in the world. Sergio has a great collection of beers and is a great guy to boot. I was recently there with a danish friend of mine, and he was surprised that he hadn't heard of half of the danish breweries Sergio was carrying at the time!

I'm in love (again). This bar has that dive feel but it quickly feels like home with the amazing beer selection and the helpful, friendly staff. Just ask them for a suggestion; they won't disappoint. And ask for a sour ale.

Delicious beers and more taps than I can count. First of all, I love that they have no signage. It gives it a real hole-in-the-wall feel and adds a little challenge on your first visit. Second of all, the beer selection here is outstanding. You make your selection from a computer print out being passed around with the current tap selections. Expect to see a few choices crossed out, but like I said, more choices than you can count. If you like to drink craft beer, you need to make a stop at Sergio's. They have food but it's nothing special, just more fuel for the drinking.

Best beer bar I've ever been to, bar none. That is saying something. We went here on a random suggestion from a friend-of-a-friend at the Mag Bar, and man am I glad we did. It's a little hole-in-the-wall place, that we almost missed even though we had a GPS. Walking in, it took us a second to get our bearings and realize that the main seating section was in the back past the bar. The owner Sergio is the bartender, cook, and waiter -- or at least, the night we went, he was. That night was a little out of the ordinary too, because there was a large party that was doing a 6-course meal, so Sergio was rather busy. Even while having to deal with that, he still got us beer though. The guy knows his stuff -- you tell him what you like, he will make a suggestion. He's very nice, and open to conversation. The beer list is absolutely phenomenal. There is a draft selection that Sergio changes up every so often, and the bottled beers are all listed with what type they are, and a beer rating where applicable (I think from Beer Advocate, but I can't remember). At the front of the tome o' beers, it gives a detailed description of each of the types of beers, so if you're not a beer connoisseur you can still know what you're getting if you order an Imperial Stout, for example. But then again, whether you're a connoisseur or not, I suggest just getting a recommendation from Sergio himself. There is a whiteboard in the front with a ranking of various patrons and how many beers they've tried. Sergio himself is at the top of the list, having tried 1169 different types of beer (at the time that we went). Oh right, food. This place has food too. There was a decent selection, and what we got was unremarkable -- neither notably good, nor bad. Quesedilla, turkey sandwich, and I can't remember what else. You don't come to a place like this for the food though. As I said, the night we were here, Sergio was dealing with a large party having a 6-course meal (each course came with a beer that complemented it; man was I jealous!), so it was a while before he could get food to us. He was very apologetic, and whenever we went up to ask for a beer he was on it. The only downside to this place is that it's cash only. But knowing how much the credit card companies gouge merchants, I can understand how a small business like this would make the decision to be cash-only. And there is an ATM at the front of the place if you forget to bring cash. Sergio's makes me wish I still lived in Louisville. This has become one of my must-visit places whenever I come back to town.

This place is my dream come true! It is unmarked and you walk in a back door and see walls of beer. Making your way through the tables to the bar you are hit with more beer and tons of rare taps! They have everything and Sergio is a beer master. Just go!!

Walking in to this place was not really what I was expecting. However, the bartender (Corey I think) made us feel right at home. Gave me a tour of the place and they have well over 1000 beers. WOW! I could go back daily.

I had to check this place out based on cinimod's review. Thanks to her review I found a great eclectic place to have some outstanding beers. When I first arrived I thought I walked into a private tasting. There were about 6 guys standing around some talking about beer, some just standing. There were beer bottles on the bar, packs of beer on the bar, glasses on the bar some empty some used.A cooler filled with beers on the opposite wall. The bartender was talking to his supplier.I stood at an opening at the bar and waited for a considerable time to be served. Once I was served I realized the bartender was Sergio himself. I ordered a double chocolate stout and it was gooood. After that I thought I would try something else and Sergio asked what I preferred and took me to a wall of taps containing stouts and dark ales and recommended a couple selections.Sergio never seems to be wrong on his advice. He asks customers what they like and goes off of what they usually drink. Soon enough, the guy next to me realized I wasn't too shady a character an struck up a conversation. Then a younger man came in for a birthday party and we talked about the place. One of his friends arrived and noticed the flag of Brazil covering the front window and commented he lived in Brazil for some time .His buddy asked if he knew Portugese and his friend said yes, so Sergio began having a conversation with him in Portugese. As the evening went along the place became more crowded with various types of people young, old, babies. It had a nice neighborhood feel.Sergio's serves food, but I ddin't have any since this was just a couting expedition.Everyone I saw witha plate seemed very happy with their meals.I'll need to go back and try some solid nourishment.Be sure to bring cash,no credit cards accepted but the is an ATM on premises.

The best beer selection I have ever seen. The food is horrible, don't be swayed by the exotic menu. But, if you like to drink your dinner, you can't go wrong here. Sergio is very friendly as well and happy to recommend beers off the daunting menu.

No sense cluttering things up, this place is up there with Toranado's, or Seattle's The Stumbling Monk. Had a whole fried fish and great ceviche. This place is a hidden gem in Louisville with by far the best beer selection in town. Sergio's website will clue you in on the specials of the week along with what's new on tap. The place is very nondescript and I only knew I had arrived when I saw the flags hanging in the windows so I got to feel like an insider at a secret locals only watering hole. I really enjoyed how my tab was kept by honor code so I felt more like a trusted friend than a traveler passing through town.

Heaven is a place on Earth, and it is Sergio's. A playground for beer lovers in Louisville. I've tried so many different and new beers here, the check-ins account for most of my activity on Untappd. There's a beer for everyone, because there are literally hundreds of beers. If you have the pleasure to meet Sergio, he is an excellent resource of beer who gives great recommendations. I've always enjoyed the other staff as well. I live very close to Sergio's now, and plan to be a regular customer for years to come! I was slightly confused the first time I went to Sergio's, as there isn't a big sign out front. Just look for the flags covering the windows.

Shit, this place is awesome. The decor or the beer selection, bottled or on tap. If you walk in from the back parking lot off of Frankfort ave, you walk past all the beer coolers and the dining room in the middle.....then past more beer coolers and finally reach the bar. With 1700 beers in the coolers and 20+ on tap you can't lose here. The bar has beer (or bier) glasses from all over. Mostly Belgium but there are a lot of them for sure. The lighting is perfect, not to dark and not to lit up. The bartender that was working when I was here was great, knowledgeable and friendly. It was also awesome that a rhinegeist rep stopped by and gave us a sample of their October fest. Right place at the right time I guess. Along with the beer I tried the Chile won tons and pretzel. The won tons where awesome, a nice spicy dipping sauce came with them also. Pretzel was great, nice soft and chewy with a great cheese. Nice and mild. Another thing to mention is they were playing only movies on the tv set. First was cable guy, then so I married an axe murderer and then Beverly Hills ninja. All in all I love this place. A+

After a long day at work, my co-workers and I decided to give this hidden bar a try. We were not disappointed. One of the largest selections I've seen. Everything you could think/dream of. We stuck mostly to the Belgium selection. Wide range of flavors, light, dark, hoppy, wheaty...it was a feast of great beer. With that said, the service was different than most bars. You select your own beer out of the coolers and then bring them up to the bar to be opened. I wasn't sure if that was because it was late and short staffed or if that's the way it's done. Not complaining, just different. The decorum was standard bar with a little world flavor. The service was average, the bartender was courteous, just not overly friendly. I'm sure that was because it was late and he was ready to go home after a long day himself. We didn't try anything on the food menu due to the hour of arrival. Will I be back? Of course!! Many more beers to try!!!

I'm not typically one to drink alone, but this place makes me want to do just that. Seriously, this place is so compelling that I'll occasionally bring my laptop here and have a couple of drinks while getting some work done (don't tell my employer!). The selection of beer is mesmerizing, the staff is knowledgeable, and the prices are fair. As an added bonus, the food is surprisingly decent.

I really had no idea what to expect/what I was getting into when I went here. I wasn't sure where to park or even which building it was. Being called Sergio's world beer I decided to try the door with all the flags from around the world on it. I really thought I was walking into a grocery store or possibly some secret underground crime syndicate meeting but lo and behold on the other side of the door was a bar and lots and lots of beers. (I can't overstate how many beers they have here!) Sergio takes the view that if there is any free space anywhere in his establishment beer must be put there. Every fridge and cooler is packed with different kinds of beers. You'll probably have trouble deciding so you should start using Untapped or you can always get a recomendation from the man himself. He is there most of the time. The bar takes cash only and takes the honor system approach with paying. You drink and then pay for what you drank at the end of the night. (there are a lot of cameras but just don't be a dbag and pay for what you ordered :P) If you love or even like beer this is a place you have to check out.

Overall I enjoyed a unique experience you can't find anywhere else in Louisville. Sergio has established a beer sanctuary that any brew-lover should visit from time to time. There are an insane number of choices and you won't be able to make a reliable decision so just snag something interesting-looking and go for it. Going here forces you to try new things and you'll walk away loving a beer you never had heard of. I haven't tried to food, so I can't comment on it. There are areas for improvement here, though. For starters, as many other reviews have pointed out, they only take cash here. And with most beers between $5 and $20, you might spend more than you expected. They have an ATM. But not taking credit cards just seems lazy nowadays. Secondly, despite feeling like a large bar, there isn't a whole lot of seating. If you're here with a friend or two it isn't a huge deal, but I wouldn't recommend large groups because there may not be enough seating. Lastly, there isn't any music. And no real atmosphere to speak of. It seems very quiet in the bar. This doesn't bother me much most of the time but it seems like a missed opportunity. Beer drinkers want to enjoy their time at the watering hole. Overall, I love what Sergio has created. A place for beer drinkers to really enjoy their drinks, and try new beers from all over the world. I think there are certain areas that could be improved, however, and the experience would be even better.

This is one of the coolest places in Louisville. It's low key and divey, hard to find if you don't know what you're looking for because there aren't signs or big lights to point itself out. It's based on the honor system so you bring your bottles to the bar when finished to pay (cash only btw). The place is filled with beers from all around the world that if you can't find something to drink then there is something wrong with you.

This is hands down the best beer bar I have ever visited! On a Yelp scale from 1-5 stars, this is minimally ten stars. This is based on visiting breweries and bars all over the country, but Sergio's blew me away. Typically, when I visit a different city, I try to visit as many breweries as possible without really considering beer bars for the simple fact that bars offer beers that I can find elsewhere whereas many breweries serve their beer only there on location. But I wanted to bring some bottles home and I read so many great reviews that I had to check this place out. It was about 11PM and I convinced my hotel to use their airport shuttle to drive me the 3 miles to Sergio's. When we arrived where the GPS said to go I did not see the name on the place. I got out of the shuttle and walked inside of the beer bar. I was disappointed to see that they didn't have too many beers despite reading reviews raving about 1400-2000 beers. That's when I learned I was in the wrong place. They told me it was next door. I walked next door and there was a place with the door and window covered up so I couldn't see inside and again, I did not see a sign. However, I walked in and was overjoyed at what I had found. At first sight it looked like a small divey bar. There were a bunch of huge refrigerator coolers filled with bottle of beer. There were a lot, but still didn't seem like as many as I had expected. I sat at the bar and was surprised to discover how much they had on draft. I thought this was going to be more like a to-go place, but it is a full bar and the beers on draft were a wonderful selection. The place was packed and everyone was younger than me. I soon learned that this bar went much further back. The hallways, bathroom and entire perimeter of all of the rooms were just lined with refrigerators of beer. There was an entire refrigerated walk-in room of nothing but Belgian beers. As I came out there were coolers filled with South American beers and then tons with European beers. All the while I am calculating how many bottles I would be able to safely transport home. In the end, I settled on a dozen different varieties. I hope Louisville locals know how lucky they are to have a place like this. You can go here every single night of the year and never repeat a beer. Hell, you can go here nightly for five years and never repeat a beer! And it was a cool, laid back vibe. Groups of friend sitting around playing games, cards ,or just having a conversation all while surrounded by the largest abundance of beer you could ever imagine. Meet up as SFLHops to the next beer event at meetup.com/Craft-Beer-in…

What is there to say that hasn't been covered. Best beer bar in Louisville, and one of the best I've seen. A very friendly group who knows the beer, and will be more than happy to help you find anything. Don't eat the food. I have twice, I am a slow learner. But never again. Go for the beer. Cash only!! Tough to find as there is no signage outdoors, but worth the treasure hunt.

Food was excellent, and the beer selection was out of this world. Cash only threw me off a bit but there's an ATM inside. Staff was super friendly and willing to answer any questions. Definitely making this a regular stop any time I'm in town.

Funky and cool but confusing for a newbie. What I did not know--Grab the beer, wait and they will open it at the counter, yay! Cash only. I was shocked to find out they had Zombie Dust on draught from Three Floyds, impressive indeed. Feels like sitting in your cousins living room in the 1980's. Go there for sure to say you have been, it was fun.

Sergio's benefits from all of the wonders of a place like Louisville. Namely, you can buy bottles at retail cost and drink them on site. But additionally, Sergio's typifies the small town, familial atmosphere. It's super cozy and humble inside, but it's everything you need to choose among their (has to be thousands of) beers and sit down and enjoy something truly exceptional. Sergio is awesome, and though I can't speak for the food (which is mostly cheap bar food that's perfect for drinking), the beer is just so amazing. They also have at least 20 beers on tap.

Sergio's is an amazing and unique craft beer bar. The selection is massive, with over 1400 unique beers to choose from. Most of these beers are in assorted fridges lining the walls of the cavernous interior. But don't ignore the taps - they had some really interesting taps as well. It is cash only and the entrance is really tough to find. There is no sign, so just look for it where Google Maps tells you it is. I found it thanks to a health inspection sign in the front window. Once you enter there is a small bar with fridges located around the walls. Behind the bar opens up into a large room with lots of booths and tables for seating, along with many many more fridges full of beer. Drinking beer is on the honor system. Just open a bottle, drink it - at the end of the night turn in your empties and pay. Each beer is labeled with its price. This is definitely one of the best and most interesting beer bars I've been to. Don't let the difficulty in finding it or the eclectic atmosphere scare you away - if you are a beer fan, you should check out Sergio's!

This is a fun, smallish bar that serves decent food. It's the beer that brings the crowds though. Staff was very friendly, hipster but not aloof at all. When I went they were showing Ghostbusters on the TV as a tribute to Harold Ramis, who'd recently passed. I just found that revealing about the general vibe of the place.

You looking for freaky hard to find brews? He may just have them. Owner is very nice, helpful people kinda person. Not pretentious but could be if he wanted to because dude knows his stuff about world beers. Not sure what you want? He'll sit down with you and figure it out. Cool, low key place to disappear to. The doc is in, and I think his name is Sergio! ;)

Not for the fairweather beer fiend... I've been going to Sergio's for about 5-6 years now and am so happy we have a place like this around town. Sergio has been in the beer game much longer than the fad has been around. If you go in and order a standard domestic - be prepared to be shown the door - the bathroom door. He stores all of the crappy beers next to the men's urinal and for good reason; he's just removing a step between the bottle and the sewer. THIS is the the only true hole in the wall bar in town, IMO. He has no signs, its a very nondescript facade and he's only in business for the true beer snobs. He doesn't want, nor buy into the corporate system of service. The bartenders are BEYOND knowledgeable and very helpful if you have an idea of what you want. The beer selections is 2nd to none - I challenge anyone to find a larger selection of beer within 300 miles. The food is meh, but he's not in it to be a restaurant - this is a place to take beer seriously and they do just that. The environment isn't inviting or cozy and seating up front can be sparse but again - this is a place to drink and discuss beers. Despite all of the negative things about the environment that you'll read on these reviews, one thing can't be disputed - he's constantly voted by major and national beer advocate publications as one of the top 10 bars in the country. This is truly a unique spot only Louisville can foster.

About to be your first time here? Read this. The only way to find this place from the street is to look for the weird building with the flags on it. And this teeny tiny sign on the door that says Sergios. Upon entering, you will see coolers and coolers filled with bottles of beer. All individually priced. They also have stuff on draft. Just picking out a beer you want is a task in itself, SO MANY options. And it doesn't appear to be organized by style either, more by the brewery so I felt like I looked around for a half hour before making my decision. I tried asking the guy that works there for a recommendation, but he wasn't the friendliest of people. (Maybe I caught him on a bad night) Once you pick your beer out, take it to the counter and they will poor it for you in a glass. Keep your empty bottle, when you are done for the night you pay based on your empties. Oh and its CASH ONLY as an FYI. The atmosphere is kind of odd in here. Very quiet, no music playing. Pretty much beer and boxes of beer surrounding you everywhere. Good for small groups of people to chat, play cards or a board game. Good place to start the night, but there's not much around the area that's open late either. And they close at 2:00am on the weekends. Overall- Great place to go for beer lovers. The options are really endless.

this is without a doubt the best beer bar in the country. yes, im going to go ahead and say that with authority because number one, chances are i know more about beer than you do and two, i am writing this review, not you. finding this place is a mission but thats cool cause that cuts off a lot of people who are probably annoying and entitled and swear they deserve everything on a silver plate. i met sergio as he was opening his business. i walked around freely and truly explored the place. they keep beers everywhere. it is amazing, no really. amazing. i drank a couple of beers, so special, so secret, so exclusive im not even gonna tell you what i had. i dont want you googling that shit. youre just going to have to not know. i would travel to louisville again just to visit this bar.

This place is magical, and totally overwhelming because of the shear number of bottles and taps they have. I won't go into all of the details, because I think the reviewers capture it well. I will say, this place is beer heaven for the beer lover out there (like me and my husband). They have SOOO many options, you can find anything you're looking for. There are some nice rare selections as well as more standards, although you will not find any crappy beer (I think we saw a can of PBR marked for $60 as a joke...). Definitely stop by if you're in the area, or make a point of going it you're not. There is a reason why Sergios is often rated as one of the top beer bars in the US. It's a little tricky to find (no sign) but the google location is accurate, so if you see a door at the same location as the dot on your map you're probably there.

For a building with no signage in a random area of Louisville the true beauty occurs when you open the door. Absolutely one of the best beer selections I have ever seen in one place with great prices as well. Bartender was helpful and nice but this place is more like a create your own adventure book where every outcome is amazing beer and a good buzz. If I could give this place a 6 star rating I would. Also they might have food...I was so overwhelmed by the beer I just wandered around squealing and crying tears of happiness

My favorite whole in the wall in Louisville!!! I used to live right across the street from Segio's and would pop in all the time. He knows the price of every beer and may look down upon you if you don't know much about beer but he can't help it because he just knows everything about it. Quirky, hidden, quiet...it's a beer lovers paradise!

I visited this place when my partner and I needed to buy obscure and good beers for a beer snob vacation. We found exactly what we needed. I also located the nearest ATM for my bank, because of course I didn't check the Yelp reviews closely before coming. So many options for beer. Really nice staff.

Had a friend pick up a short list of beers not available in my area. Bill came to be about $80 worth of an assortment of fine domestic an international beers. Roughly half of the beers were so old they were undrinkable. 3 Floyd's Dreadnaught IPA had lost almost all of it's hop flavors, and upon inspection the bottle date had worn off or been scratched off. Very put off by the whole experience.

Amazing selection.... But no Hacker Pschorr??? I would have given you 6 stars! Amazing choice of beers from all over the country and the world. VERY cool retro-low key feel. Like walking into your buddie's basement bar....but with 48 fridges full of beer!!!

As many reviewers have said before me, it's a hard place to find, even when you pretty much know where it is. At least it was mid afternoon on a sunny day, which helped some by the light of day. Easily worth the wait and anticipation was surpassed. Almost an overwhelming amount of beer. My experience was that I didn't want to miss anything as you turned the corner and there was more beer there, and over there and yet more over there. It's basically a beer labyrinth. Seems that they serve food as well due to walking in and around a kitchen space in the middle of the beer labyrinth. But who cares, Sergio's had beer and lots of it! I figured out quickly that it was best to get a draft beer from the guy at the bar (Sergio?), who knows but he pours a mean Three Floyd's barley wine. After I get my draft beer in hand, I walk around to meet an older gentleman organizing and stocking beer, again (Sergio?), who knows maybe we'll find out later. He makes some suggestions on beer and some Cantillion jokes, but I move on and wade through the shear amount of beer located in one spot. At this point I'm as far into the labyrinth that I can get and a guy, a stranger, comes up to me and asks if I'm Sergio? Hey, wait a minute here. I make a few confusing jokes to him and tell him that I'm not sure who Sergio is. He eventually finds the older guy somewhere in the labyrinth and gets his questions answered. I eventually whittle down the bottles that I want to purchase and bring them to the front. Same guy up front, (Sergio?) does some quick math for me, I pay and we're out of there. Oh yeah, it's a cash only business so bring your dead presidents with you.

This is the bar I always dreamed about. Unrecognizable from the front unless you're familiar with the international flags hanging in the front window. Countless beers on tap, and most importantly, in fridges around the entire place. Everything and anything you can ever imagine.

Best beer selection in Kentucky. If you can't find a beer you like here, you must hate beer. Two minor knocks. Cash only. Since the place is so stacked with beer, it's hard at times to find help and ask questions. Very underrated bar food, though.

If no one told you what to look for, you'd walk right past Sergio's and you would regret it. The front window/door is covered with flags. There isn't really a sign on the door either. When you get in, there is seating at the bar and up front, but if that's busy, head to the rear. there is beer crammed in every nook and cranny of this building so feel free to open up random store coolers or fridges that you see. there's beer in there! They have quite a few options on tap as well as countless bottles in the coolers. They have beer that i've never seen before or even heard of. Prices are good as well if you consider the effort that was put into the selection. Bring cash as they don't accept card. They do have an ATM if needed. bring a cooler with you as well to transport all of the bottles you end up buying to take home.

Hole in the wall with a bazilliion different beers. Perfecto! Totally hidden, BTW. The sign is smaller than an adult finger. This is not the bar next door that serves Busch Light.

Has this place been around for years and years? I ask because I have no idea. Despite being a native, Louisville has undergone massive change within the past six or so years. I hardly recognize the place. And, as an East End/Prospect kid, this part of town is completely foreign to me (again, despite having gone to The Brown School for elementary school). I maintain that Butchertown, as a place for hipsters and hip things, is a local invention designed to trick me. Believe me, growing up in this city, there was nothing 'hip' or 'ster' about it. But, I digress... Sergio's is a place to behold. You know your crazy great-aunt Myrtle? Yeah, her. You need to imagine her and her house. But, instead of cats, dolls, china, and the occasional taxidermied renter, there's beer. Everywhere. On the floor. On the tables. On top of cabinets. Stacked up 6' high in a corner. Everywhere. Sergio's is a neat freak's nightmare. I don't profess to be the world's most organized individual, but my soul was weeping for a chance to clean & organize the entire place. How in the world does Sergio expect anyone to find the beer they want? The local wisdom is to just wander around from room to room until you find what you like. I'm serious. There's beer (in fridges and boxes) in every room. See something you like? Grab it. Get it opened. Pay for it on the way out. I spied a back exit and wondered what stopped people from walking in, grabbing a beer and walking out the back. But then I remembered I was in Louisville, not M... let me stop. So, beer in hand, you might as well eat, right? All pretense about being too grossed out by dust to eat went away the minute you sat and started drinking. If I can do it, you can do it. And you should do it. The food here is surprisingly good. Going with the randomness of the evening, I decided on the shrimp chimichanga. I know. It came fried up with grilled peppers & onions, a heap of cheese sauce, rice, and beans. By this point, I was just going with the flow. It's much easier that way. Eating all that food, I found myself wandering around in search of beer. Not only does Sergio's have everything you can imagine, the prices are very affordable. I was in a Brown Ale kind of mood (seasonal) and had my world rocked by a Canadian Brown ale for $4.50. A follow-up English Brown ale for $5 was nearly as good. Loosened up, I had the chance to speak some with the owner/Sergio? He's an interesting character but very passionate about the city, neighborhood and beer. You can't ask for more. Sergio's is an adventure and its very existence makes me proud to be from Louisville. If you profess to love beer, come to Louisville and never make it here, you're kidding yourself. Stop in. Eat. Drink. Be merry. Just don't mind the mess. It's sort of a 'thing.'

There IS a reason this is on the top 10 bars in the world list. Was in Italy and they had the list at a bar and Sergio's was on it.

All the yes. Love. Adore. Gush. Wax (poetic). ... and I want to go back, now. Right now. I'm serious. Should I continue or are you picking up what I'm putting down, dear Yelp reader? Sergio's World of Beer(s) easily makes the cut of my top ten favorite bars anywhere in the world, period. This place is on point and pretty much perfect in a bazillion, Rachel F-approved ways. (Disclaimer: this does not mean it is pretty much perfect for you. Read on and decide for yourself, because context clues!) 1. Unassuming is an understatement: blink or be unsure of yourself and you'll miss it. Zero signage. 2. For the love of beer: if you don't like beer, don't bother. 3. Keep it REAL: a small bar and cooler after wall cooler after "oh here's a walk in cooler" of beer. It's like Indiana Jones. Choose wisely, because there are thousands of beers here, no lie. 4. Know your -ish: they do and you can but don't have to. Ultra-nerd or novice beer drinker, just be real and talk to whoever's keeping that bar open and they'll school you/help you pick something that's just right. 5. Try something new: do it. This is the place to do that. Don't be boring. 6. Food: the bartender told me to open all the coolers, so I did. One of said coolers was a fridge, because that's a cooler too. That fridge held many beers just like all the other coolers, but the freezer had frozen soon-to-be-deep-fried bits in bags. So you can have onion rings with your super amazing obscure Italian beer, so there's that. MORE, BECAUSE I LOVE THIS PLACE SO HARD: L and I landed here on May 26 at 10:30pm-ish. The stars aligned as I brought in my 30th year next to the man I love while sitting at this most random, beer-centric, pseudo-"is this an apartment or a bar?" bar boasting thousands upon thousands of beers while listening to "Reign in Blood" by Slayer. We talked about crazy beer nerd stuff with our super-nice/smart bartender who seemed to like old Ska and punk and guns but hate gentrification and anything mainstream. He was pretty great. We watched homemade videos of figure eight races (basically demolition derbies on a figure eight-shaped track) of trucks hauling campers crashing into old school buses, etc. We drank a large-format Belgian tripel; the label simply pictured small photos of cute animals and the words "Fuck Art This Is Advertising." Like I said, the stars aligned. I love you, Sergio, and I love your World of Beer(s). Please keep on doing what you're doing and keep fighting the good fight. You've got fans and ardent supporters around the country (and the world)... I'm just sure of it. You should count me one for sure.

Love me some Sergio's! I've been twice now. The Philly cheese steak was so good the first time, I had to get it again this time. Not sure I'll ever be able to find another that can top that one (maybe in Philly?). You expect this just to be a beer place but the food is fantastic. Onto the beer. With over 1000 beers (seriously, everywhere you turn, there's a cooler with more beers), you're bound to find SOMETHING you like. That's why I felt confident bringing a friend last night who is not a beer drinker...I knew even she would find something. And find something she did. She talked to Sergio himself and received a recommendation for a berry beer that was delicious. I also like the unpretentious atmosphere. Very quiet, low-key. You can actually have a conversation here. And I've never had to wait for a table. I hate that it's cash-only, but convenient that there's an ATM up front since I never have cash on hand. Definitely a must if you're a fan of beer!

MOST AMAZING BEER SELECTION EVER Seriously I have never seen such a broad selection of beers. There are rows of fridges, some of them walk-in, plus a whole list of beers on tap. The owner loves beer and his store and it shows. He even has a cute thing where he saves some kegs of seasonal beers, like pumpkin ale (Southern Tier's Pumking was on deck when I was there) for later in the year, and then has Pumpkin in June or Christmas Ale in July. The ambiance is almost speakeasy-like, with flags covering all the windows and lots of locals always hanging around. It's a great place to go with many people or just one or none. We went here late and the kitchen was closed but we were starving, so the owner was kind enough to make us some fried cheese-filled wontons and mozzarella sticks. Love it. (The bottles are overpriced). Cash only.

My wife and I travel to Louisville about 4-5 times per year, and we've heard great things about Sergio's, but until recently, we never had a chance to go. I wish we'd just stayed away and kept the legend alive, because we were sorely disappointed. The first warning should have come when our cab driver had trouble finding the place, because there's no sign indicating that you've arrived. Any business that thinks they're too good to let you know you're there has a lot to prove, as far as I'm concerned. Speakeasys definitely played an important role in American history, but there's no need for that kind of crap in the 21st century - it smacks of pretension. We walked in to find a packed bar, one bartender talking to three different people at the far end of the bar, and no indication of whether we were supposed to seat ourselves, or wait to be seated, or even if there would be anywhere for us to sit. Another couple walked in at the same time as us, and they didn't know what to do, either. After a minute or so of the four of us standing there waiting for something to happen, I decided to walk down a dimly-lit, unmarked hallway and look around, only to find a much larger (though still not large) seating area, mostly full. Still no sign of any servers anywhere. The other couple sat down at the end of a long table, leaving a total of four seats empty. Any combination of any two of the remaining seats would have left us sitting right next to strangers while we ate and drank. Some people are apparently into that kind of thing, but we are not. We walked back into the bar to find the bartender free, and our exchange went like this: Bartender: Hey guys. Me: Hi. My wife: We've never been here before -- Bartnder (interrupting): Welcome home. Me: We don't really understand how this works. Do we seat ourselves? How do we order? Bartender: You order from me. Me: Are there no servers? Bartender: I'm the server. My wife: This is confusing. Bartender: Well, you just sit down, like you do at home. Me: If I was at home, I would be comfortable. And so we left, and went to the Bluegrass Brewing Company in Theater Square, and had delicious food and great beer, with fantastic service. Y'all can have Sergio's. I'll stick with BBC.

I absolutely love this place! Wen I lived in Louisville I would go here every week. the place is hard to find and I think that adds to the whole style of the place. The staff is very knowledgeable of the beers (all 1407), food, and many other things in life. I cant say I have ever had a bad time here. During the many visits here I have met people from all over the world, and had many great conversations with them. The whole place is fun. Some times its fun to just label shop for beers and try ones you would never try else ware. The staff remembers who you are and your stories and the beers you like. they know what style of glasses go with what beers and will serve you the beer correctly. Every time I go back to Louisville I have to stop here for at least 1 or 10.

Wow, this place is great. Stumbled in last weekend and loved the concept of selecting your own beer from one of the multiple fridges. Perfect place for any beer connoisseur and/or hipster and/or human being that can appreciate wonderful things. Also thought it was a great idea to pick up a giant $500 bottle of beer while tipsy. Luckily it did not end in disaster.

What an interesting place. Drinking beer here will appeal to the hunter-gatherer in you because the search is just as fun as the possession. Choosing one bottle of beer means refusing hundreds of others. When you finally pick the right cooler with the right beer, go to the bartender, get the top popped, and keep your bottles. You'll need them to settle up at the end.

What to say that hasn't already been said?!? If you like beer (and I mean good beer... Not just slamming back bud lights) then you must at some point in your life visit this place! First make sure you have the address and head there. Don't worry when you can't find the place as there is no signs for it. A helpful hint is in Louisville Kentucky all food/beverage establishments have to have a health code rating on their building that you can see before you go in and if your unsure if you're at the right place just look for that. ;) The first time you go in you will be in awe! There are speciality beer glasses and taps lined all around the walls and refrigerated cases upon cases of beer. Here is where you'll find the main bar area and all of the taps. If you walk down through the hallway the place actually opens up with more table like seating and guess what... MORE refrigerated cases of beer! You could probably spend a could hours just going through all the cases if beer to see what he has. If you want to go the simpler route there's always a list of what's on tap with an option of probably around 30 beers. If you want to be in beer heaven this is a place to put on your bucket list to visit! Make sure you bring cash with you as that's all he takes there (but if you do forget he has an ATM inside as well).

Finding this place, not an easy job. My friend and I passed it up a couple of times before finally using the GPS, and stopping nearby to ask a guy smoking a cigarette outside a nearby bar who pointed us in the right direction. And I'm local! No signage for this place at all. After talking with the owner, I understand why. He isn't in this business to make a ton of cash. He wants REAL beer lovers to search this place out. Not a bunch of frat boys searching for a Bud Lite and a pool table. Therefore there is no signage and it is cash only, (although there is an ATM on premise, but it will cost you a $3.00 service charge). The beer selection is unrivaled at any bar in Louisville, and I'd bet most of North America. If you're a beer lover, you're going to need to bring at least a hundred in cash to try everything you'd want to try. Seriously, you could spend a whole paycheck here. That's the overwhelming downside though, beers are NOT CHEAP by any means! If you're looking for something specific, you may want to check Louisville Beer Store or Keg Liquors first. This place is apparently an old shotgun house that has been renovated into a bar. Not a bar atmosphere here at all. But beer coolers line the walls all the way back to the end of the place. It will take you 15 to 20 minutes just to quick-glace over every beer here. Plus over 40 different craft and imports on tap! And do yourself a favor and strike up a conversation with the owner Sergio. He can tell you about every beer he has there, and others than he doesn't. And quite possibly he will have other beers behind the counter, not even out for sell to the general public! So do yourself a favor and be friendly. Didn't try the food, but for a small place like this, the menu is extensive. Like the beer selection, there are a whole lot of choices! Well more than your typical bar fare. Seriously, if you're a real beer fan visiting Louisville, you CANNOT pass up visiting this place! This should be your first destination!

I simply can't understand how anyone would give this place less than a five. I've been trying to figure out how to review this for awhile now. This is one of the places that I would take any out-of-towners to truly experience the best Louisville has to offer. That's a big statement right there. Let's start with the first time I went. This place is LITERALLY a hole in the wall. I am 100% convinced that this place stays in business purely by word of mouth and regulars. That is my kinda place right there. Also, I'm glad it is like that, it keeps those who know in, and those who don't, out. Call me an elitist. (ok, not yet) _________________________________________________ But the man with the plan (Sergio) knows what he is doing. He knows everything you could ever want to know about beer, and then some. He knows how every single beer in his restaurant tastes (in case you managed to miss the other reviews, that's over 1400). He knows where they came from (because he goes on a hiatus to buy them straight from the vendors themselves). He knows when you're sleeping and when you are awake... (have I seriously still got your attention?!) He knows the price of all of them and who bought what - it is on the honors system - but trust me - he knows. He knows his customers. He knows a bajllion languages (I can't remember exactly how many, but it is a lot), English being his second - though you would never know it. and He wears funny hats when he drinks. _________________________________________________ Oh and with 1400 beers to choose from, you might need a taxi. Oh and word to the wise, don't ask for water. Or soda. Bring cash, they don't take credit cards.

Sergio's World Beers is located in Louisville, Kentucky. Honestly, if you're anywhere within driving distance this place may be worth your trip. I love, love, loved this place. I could imagine if I lived in Louisville I'd become a regular here. According to their website, there are 43 taps and 1417 bottles of beer. Those are different types of beer too. One of the best parts of this place is you can buy a bottle and sit down and drink it there. There are coolers upon coolers of beer. And the tap list is long and you really may need to spend some serious time considering which beers to pick from. Oh, and be sure to get yourself a taxi since it'll be hard to not just keep picking great beers. The service here is hit or miss. We had a terrible time ordering and one time the guy forgot he was pouring my beer and wandered off for like 10 minutes. Either way, I would still go to this place for the selection. While there we ordered the chili wontons and they were pretty good. We also had the Sergio's special burrito. Nothing special, but we weren't here for food. We were here for the beer. And the beer definitely came through. They do have an ok food menu though so you can have some solid sustenance while you enjoy your liquid diet. Know that Sergio's isn't easy to find and you will probably walk by it a time or two before you find it the first time here. Don't be discouraged though, it's worth doing the hunting for.

Sergio's is great. We had a group of 5 and all enjoyed it. It is something everyone should experience. We all want o go back! The number of different kinds of beers Sergio's offers is incredible. We also all enjoyed our meals. Be sure to bring cash and an easy, laid back attitude, to enjoy yourself.

An Amazing place. A little hard to find, but worth it once you do. I was in Louisville for business, and I flew in on a Sunday. I got to Sergios at around 2:30, and they were just opening up. I was invited in and wow, this place is packed with hundreds of beers. Sat at the bar while he was opening up, ordered a KBS and got to talking to the guy, who was THE Sergio. Super nice guy, knows a ton about beer. Had a few rare and aged beers for very fair money and was on my way. Great place and cant wait to go back.

Respect. If you like beer, come here. I was in town from NJ, with a bit of time to kill and wanting to see more of the "craft beer scene" in Louisville. With my East Coast snobbery fully intact, I parked nearby, walked past, then doubled back and went in. Before coming to Louisville, I knew a few good bars and stores would exist in town, but didn't expect much. Yelp said to come here, so I did. Within 5 minutes of walking around, I decided to "just get something on tap" while looking. Even that was a difficult decision! Throughout my travels I've seen probably 80-85% of the beers available at Sergio's, but never ever in one place. The man himself wasn't there, and I only had 45 minutes to check the place out, but if you have a craving for a craft beer, come here. A bar like this couldn't exist in NYC, it would be impossible to refill the shelves so fast. Even the snobbiest beer snob from NYC and NJ should come here if in town or in the area, Sergio's World Beers is a true destination.
