Kingsley's is a wonderful meat and seafood shop. It's been located in its present position for generations and has a reputation held in high regard from it's customers. From the outside the building looks a little rough but this won't phase you for long as often you can find employees using their massive grill out front making all of those who live in the near vicinity salivate. They have a moderate amount of seafood considering we're not located near any large body of water. What I enjoy is their red meat selection. I have yet to find a better cut of tenderloin in the city. They also have a wonderful deal on lunch which many may not know in passing. It includes your choice of two meats and two vegetables. I would suggest getting there for an early lunch to ensure the food is fresh rather than waiting till later due to the fact they cook everything at one point in the day. The employees are the best as mentioned in prior reviews. They deserve the praise for both their knowledge on the meat and seafood selection. What I enjoy most about the employees when I get a tenderloin or roast is the fact that the butcher will offer to take the more fatty areas of the roast and ground them up so I can use them as burgers or however I choose. It's the small things that impress me the most. Love Kingsley's, would highly recommend them for lunch or as the place to get your next holiday meal.

I will start with the bad. A little pricey. Awesome and fresh meat selection. Lamb, bison and just about everything else you can name. Best German potato salad in the city of Louisville. Nowhere is even close. Having a cookout? Buy your meat here and you will never buy it anywhere else ever again.

Kingsley has the BEST wild caught salmon ever. It is always fresh and reasonably priced. When I cook this salmon- it needs little seasoning and just melts in your mouth. They have a wide variety of seafood including sea scallops, tuna, sword fish and shrimp. It can be difficult to find oysters and mussels but if you let Kingsley know- they can order it for you. The poultry and red meat selections including beef tenderloin and lamb are really great too. They also do catering and smoked meats. The staff is always helpful and freindly. Don't forget to grab some smokey pepper jack cheese from the deli too. Yum!

When I go into the store (several times a week) I have to remind myself that's it's not the ambiance I'm looking for, but the fresh quality meat. And it's there. Amish chicken, thick cut bone-in pork chops, great filets and impressive standing rib roasts. The seafood isn't as complete, but they have nice scallops, cod and fresh salmon. The frozen options are good for long-term planning, but the crab cakes ($9.00 for two small ones) are loaded with filler. Frog legs are frozen and work well on the gill, but you can tell they've been frozen so I mostly stick to the fresh stuff. The staff runs from fabulous, friendly and helpful to surly and distasteful. Once I stood, with a long line of others, to pay until one of the meat cutters went out and hustled up the cashier who came in mad and sour faced. She reeked of cigarette smoke and snapped at each one of us. There is also a red-neck quality about the store with lots of tattoos, ball caps and missing teeth. Laborers and people in suits, all come in for what must be a great lunch. Meat and two sides--generally overcooked. Bar-be-cue is constantly cooking in the front parking lot and someone is routinely there sopping on the sauce. The deli wouldn't be where I'd go for anything because it offers something with marshmallows and fruit, plus salads loaded with condiments and salt. The ingredients are swimming and often times they can't be easily identified. Just remember, the meats are great and enjoy the show.

Stopped in for a first time visit. Everything looked fresh. I got ham salad and chicken salad. Both were good. I also got a rib lunch to go. The ribs had a good taste but weren't as tender as I like them. Also thought the sauce was a little sour. I like it sweeter. But asked a lady leaving what she liked to get there. She said the steaks were the best she ever had. So Im going to get my next steak there. All the meat looked good.

I am a massive carnivore and I looooveeee my meat! I used to got to Kroger to get them but then started going to Kingsley's in December. Since it's a butcher shop, everything's nice, fresh, and reasonably priced. They have a good selection of beef, pork, and chicken cuts. They also have bison burgers, ground lamb, cordon bleu, stuffed porkchops, etc. This lessens the cost of going to Hammerheads for some good burgers. I made lamb burgers one weekend and they were a hit! Just season the ground lamb, grill, and put them in some warmed pretzel buns (which you can get from Kroger), add some smoked gouda, then dab in some homemade sun dried tomato and garlic aioli! I now just get chicken breasts from Kroger but for the rest of my meaty needs, I get them from Kingsley's!

I had a groupon for this place. I figured why not save on some nice quality meats! I remember going here with my mom when I was little and always thinking it smelled funny. I guess to a kid that fresh meat smell is weird. Their meat case is huge and they had a nice selection of steaks, chops, and seafood. I picked out a couple of bacon wrapped filets and a couple of ny strips. I haven't tasted them yet but they looked nice in the case. There were tons of people working to serve all of the customers quickly which was nice since it was quite crowded. Everyone seemed friendly. I will definitely return!

Wife picked up lunch one day. Big piece o' chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and a roll for $6.00. Tasty tasty stuff.

Just want to say that everyone that works here is so nice and helpful. Come after 11 though to get their hot food. The chicken and dumplings are AMAZING...Now with the weather getting chilly I'll be coming by to get that soup quite often. I also always pick up some chicken salad to bring home. It's nice to have on hand for lunch. Can't wait to go back and try more.

I don't know about the other locations, but their Taylorsville location has hot plate lunches and bbq sandwiches, as well as the meat/seafood market. I've been twice, once for the meat market. We got their bacon wrapped filets. We grilled them up and they were awesome. Very tender and flavorful. My only gripe with the meat market was the lack of a porterhouse cut (although that may be available by request, I'm not sure). The second time we got their bbq sandwiches (Beef and Pork). They were pretty good but fell a bit short of my expectations, especially considering their impressive array of smokers out in the front lot. But this may be a regional thing that I'm not used to. The meat was absolutely swimming in sauce, but still had a good smoky flavor. The sauce was a bit on the sweet side for my taste as well. We didn't try any sides, so I can't comment on those. 3 Stars for their take out BBQ, 4 stars for the filets.
