Since I'm from the West Coast, it was really important to me to have Kentucky Fried Chicken in Kentucky. But seeing as we've been drinking at the Maker's Mark Tasting Room until about midnight, KFC had already closed for the night (some Southern hospitality!) and we were on the hunt for some late night munchies. I was really happy that they were open until 5am and then open again at 8am (I believe). Speaking of munchies, when we pulled in to Indi's Fast Food on the way back to Cincinnati (!!!), there were two guys hotboxing in the car in the stall next to ours. I hope my glowing review of the food isn't influenced by the 420 smoke in my airway on the way in. Pretty damn good food for a place with bulletproof glass separating you from the food workers. I learned what a chicken "keel" is....it's breast meat without the bone. Also had some broccoli cheese and some green beans and cream...pretty good soul food-ish fried chicken. I would HIGHLY recommend getting the chicken spicy- I think their secret blend of herbs and spices puts KFC's to shame. Good eats for the almost 2-hour drive back north after a great day of bourbon drinking.

I was told about this fried chicken by a local from louisville. He told me it was the best fried chicken around. He wasn't kidding.......it's juicy, has flavor and comes with dinner rolls. You can get regular or spicy, the spicy isn't blistering hot, just enough to let you know it's there without burning up your mouth. The sides are all typical of a chicken joint. Mac'n cheese, collards, broccoli cheese casserole, cobblers. It's all great! I've been there on a Sunday morning just after they opened and there wasn't a line. Come later on around lunch and there will be a wait. Also a great late night spot, they are open till 2am during the week and 5am Friday and Saturday. If you come at 3am on a weekend night there will be a wait. But it's definitely worth it!

This was five-star chicken, but we had the hugest struggle actually ordering it. We ended up ordering three different times because we kept trying to get 30 pieces of the "just chicken," but they kept giving us wings. On our third try, they finally told us that we would have to wait 30 minutes for that order of chicken, and so we ended up ordering 60 wings. We got: 120 wings, 5 orders of potato wedges, a gallon of sweet tea and a pint each of green beans and mac and cheese. I didn't try the sides, but I found the wings to be absolutely delicious (both mild and spicy), the potato wedges to be good but a little too spicy for me, and not crispy enough, and the sweet tea to be absolutely delicious. We should have gotten two gallons.

THE BEST FRIED CHICKEN IN KENTUCKY!! If you still think KFC is the motherland of fried chicken, then I implore you, come here and get yourself some keel (preferably spicy) Before my gluten allergy was diagnosed I would make the trip just to get some Indis! The chicken was always crispy, flavorful skin with a juicy, meaty center with SO. MUCH. FLAVOR!! The mac n cheese is creamy and melts in your mouth. The greens with a little vinegar are the best greens I've ever eaten. The potato wedges are large with a hint of spicy kick to them too. If you like your food extra spicy, ask for a side of hot sauce! It's hot but mannnnnn is it yummy!! Now that I can no longer have wheat (why God?!) I'm limited to the greens and a few other things when I eat here. I'm not mad though, because the greens are so good, I just buy a pint!! So if you're reading this, please eat a piece of spicy keel for me!

Food was fantastic. The fact that there was someone standing outside the restaurant following patrons from their car to the door asking for money was a turn off and the fact that the staff is behind bullet proof glass is also a bit concerning. HOWEVER, if you can get past all those things then you certainly won't be disappointed with the quality of food or the price.

Very good fried chicken and I was a fan of the sides they had as well. Was a little inconvenient that they only take cash, but they do have an ATM in the ordering area.

I'm giving four starts cause they forgot my greens, but if you need I'm so hung over good this is it, if you need some I'm going to drink all night good, again this is it, fish, chicken, wedges and lemon cake all worthy of fill up.

Although I do not live in Louisville anymore, that does not stop me from craving Indi's Spicy Fried Keel! I lived in Lou for nearly 8 years & now live in Scottsdale AZ for 2, and let me tell you, there is NO fried chicken like INDI's! KFC is just a corporate smear in the midst of true fried chicken like Indi's. This is seriously THE BEST hangover or even late night food there is to be found! If you can top off Derby night at Indi's then you have had a genuinely Kentucky "Kick Ass" good time! It's fried, spicy perfection. Not to mention the sides and hot sauce! The Mac N Cheese is creamy, rich & glutenous heaven, the potato wedges have a nice spicy kick, and THE GREENS! I converted to a healthier diet and lifestyle but I would almost always choose Indi's as my cheat meal! I always overdosed on hot sauce and I don't even care that I gotta pay for each little cup of it. I miss the rowdy patrons, in a way. It was always an entertaining experience. The whole environment is robust and unique so I would soak it in! Everything is super cheap and the spicy fried keel is by far my favorite, BUT THEY DO RUN OUT!! But I understand because it's THAT good. The only bad point is that they are/used to be cash only. Using debit would have been nice. But other than that, I miss Indi's dearly and can't wait to visit next time I'm in Kentucky!

I don't hand out 5 stars easily and it may seem strange to some of you that a place in such a bad neighborhood with bullet-proof glass at the cashier booth should warrant such a rating...but I invite you to try the food. Please try the food here...please...please...please. The fried chicken is amazing and very spicy. On Fridays, if you treat them just right they'll give you a special cut of the breast called a keel. Don't forget the spicy sauce to go with it...along with the great potato wedges. There's a lot of other soul-food sides to go along with it as well. And don't be surprised when you have to step up to the microphone to place your order. They can't hear you through the bullet-proof glass otherwise!

Ok, so after searching far and wide for a meal to tantilize the taste buds in our new state of residence...WE CAME UP WITH NOTHING!!!! So Annoyed and lost, we decided to go into the first place we drove past! That placed happened to be Indis. Having no idea what to expect but starving so no longer caring...we we're pleasantly surprised when we walked in and smelled such wonderful non burgery(new word) aromas. OMG, was the food good! We got the keel chicken, sweet potatoes, mac and cheese and greens. EVERYTHING WAS DELISH! Super flavorful, perfectly cooked, even the homemade hot sauce was insanely good! YEp, we'll be back! Can't wait! : )

If I could give them 4 1/2 starts, I would. I think they have the best chicken and the price is very reasonable. The customer service always has room for improvement, but the food makes up for it. The peach cobbler is good, so give that a try. My friend had the fish and she loved it. I went to school in KY, so I always went to Indi's.

I was introduced to this place by some colleagues for lunch break. I know Louisville is known for fried deliciousness and this place is one of those reasons why. For about five bucks you can have a hearty size portion of damn good fried chicken and extra-large fried potato wedges that will leave you near comatose. The batter in breading they use for the chicken has a bit of spice and other seasonings I cannot seem to place but really add to the depth of flavor over other more nationally recognized chains that I will not name (looking at you Colonel)... When I visited the line was pretty long but they did a decent job of making it move quickly from what I heard people are in and out and a couple minutes. Seem like a very popular spot for nearby workers and all demographics and walks of life seem to agree that this was the lunch spot of downtown. Also, it is cash only and everything is done behind a thick plate of glass because apparently it can get rough after sunset.

Even though the potato wedges are the only thing I've had it's worth 4 stars, they are SO SPICY giving a 5 may trick some sensitive folk into thinking its safe for everyone heh. Also, these bad boys are MASSIVE, or at least they were when I last had them. Good Southern style wedges..:-) Funny I don't remember bullet proof glass in front of the cashier....SEE?? These wedges are to DIE FOR :-P

Although it is debatable, in my opinion they have the best spicy chicken in Kentucky. Definitely the best wedges though.

Don't let the bullet proof glass scare you. The keel is great but the potato wedges are the best thing to get. They are spicy and tender. Not a 5 because of the neighborhood.
