Each time I have visited Gigi's, I have had great service, so no complaints there. I love their cupcakes- I have tried several and definitely have my favorites. I understand that it's a "specialty" shop and don't mind the prices (now $3.25 per cupcake, up 25 cents from when they opened.) You get a lot of cupcake for your money. I will tell you that yes, they put a LOT of frosting on their cupcakes. But I like that. And even if I didn't like it, I wouldn't be mad at them for it, because it's what they're known for. It's not like a mistake with the recipe- they're supposed to be that way. It's like, if someone complained about Derby pie because it has chocolate in it. "Real pecan pie shouldn't have chocolate, it's just pecans." But that's the whole point! That's what makes it special. So if you've docked Gigi's in your review because they use a lot of frosting, then you have missed the point. I gave Gigi's four stars out of five because some of their flavors are a little bland to me. The ones I like are really amazing, and I love them. But it has taken some trial and error to realize what's best on their menu. They do chocolate really well, but they have a few too many "plain" flavors (example: wedding cake and princess are the same thing, except one has food coloring. It's vanilla. We don't need so many kinds of vanilla.) The flavor of the fruit cupcakes is just too mild. I love lemon desserts, but I don't care for Gigi's lemon cupcakes because the lemon just doesn't pop. The lemon flavor isn't easily detected. I think that the strawberry ones are the same way. If they could tweak the recipe just a bit to make those fruit flavors stand out a bit more, then I'd definitely give five stars. Oh, and one more thing. If they ever bring back the tiramisu cupcake, snag one immediately. It was my absolute favorite (only available on the fall/winter seasonal menu) and they haven't had it in a long time!

If you're into sweets, you'll love this place. $3/cupcake--half cake/half icing. A lot of interesting flavors that change daily.

Wow there are a lot of critics on here! I found Gigi's to have excellent cupcakes AND customer service. I got a half dozen of assorted flavors and they were out of this world! All if them had excellent flavor, consistency and the frosting was fantastic! Yes, there is a lot of frosting, but did you want a cupcake or a salad? Geez. I loved Gigi's and if I lived in Louisville, I would be a repeat customer for sure.

The extensive selection at Gigi's, as well as the new shiny store in Louisville, certainly caught my eye. However, after trying just one or two, of my half dozen purchased, I threw out the rest. As others mentioned, the frosting is less than desirable, and please Gigi, there IS other flavors of frosting besides butter cream. We never returned.

GiGi's screams excess. Excess Pronunciation: \ek-ses\ Function: noun 1: in the context of cupcakes, having 3x the necessary amount of frosting. It's piled so sky high, that really you only need to eat half of the first layer to satisfy your cake:frosting ratio! 2: in the context of sugar, surpassing your daily (or week's!) worth of the fine, granular material. Synonyms: GiGi's Cupcakes! The bourbon one didn't taste much like bourbon, probably since it was baked off, but I liked the combo of walnuts and chocolate in it. The cake portion of all of the ones I tried - red velvet, choc, coconut - could have been more moist.

I am a big fan of sweets. Cupcakes in particular but these always fall way short of my expectations. The cake is always too dry, the "flavors" if you could call them that are barely detectable, and the frosting is just too heavy. Piling on a half a pound of bland buttercream does not make a boring cupcake any more exciting. Also I know two of the previous reviews stated that they thought the prices were reasonable but I strongly disagree. Three to four dollars a piece is a ripoff. I'd pay that if the cupcakes were up to par but that just isn't the case. When I know I can get a sheet cake from Nords Bakery that will feed two dozen people for less that twenty dollars and tastes much better to boot it isn't even an option to go to GiGi's. Save your money and go elsewhere!

Divine.... all I can say- divine! What I love about this place is that they change flavors in seasons- I have to say the autumn flavors are my favorite. Sweet potato pie, pumpkin white chocolate and white raspberry frappe are to die for. The spring/summer menu have its good flavors, but not much. I'd recommend Kentucky Bourbon and Sopapilla!

Being a big fan of cupcakes, Gigi's is one of my favorite stops. There are plenty of Cupcakeries that I have been to that offer dry, uninspired cupcakes. I really enjoy the flavors that are offered (Key lime- GREAT, Champagne- AMAZING). I agree that there is a very generous amount of icing. However, have a 4 year old who LOVES icing and ignores the cake- this is a great stop. I don't think they are overly sweet- I think grocery store icing is 10X more sweet and terrible tasting. Gigis is a great little *treat* place to take kids, or fun to buy a 1-cupcake box as a Bday or Anytime present.

I've ordered a few cupcakes from here and occasionally get them at the office. I've never had a bad cupcake here. They are always good and the flavor is always on point. I love all the icing, it's my favorite part! It is kinda expensive BUT you get what you pay for. I did buy some cupcakes for my fiancés birthday. Wanted UofK cupcakes, they were cute but the color blue was like a baby shower boy blue not UofK. Either way, still delicious!

Gotta say it is funny to see people complaining about too much icing. Hello, you are in a store that sells specialty cupcakes for $3.25 a pop! Do you think they are going to skimp on the icing? Yes, there is a lot of icing. But when I walked in it wasn't like I was counting Weight Watchers points either. I wanted sugar and I wanted as much of it as I could get. Just hook it to my vein! I had a PB Fluff and Red Velvet. Yes, I ate two of them. Washed them down with coffee. Almost needed to be carried out of that place. My kids had one cupcake each and couldn't finish them. My wife could not finish hers either. But we all enjoyed it. Service was top notch, timely, and friendly and everything was clean. Not a ton of places to eat inside (it was cold outside when we went) so getting your cupcakes to go might be the best bet. This was a nice treat for us and something we don't do every day.

If you don't like icing take it off! This is the best cupcake I've ever ate! The ten pounds of icing are perfect for a sweet tooth like me. I love every flavor. You can't go wrong with Gigi's. And they have really awesome deals on their Facebook page!

Even though I did not order ahead they had a wide selection in the late afternoon on Valentines Day. Always Beautiful, always delicious.

This is one of those places you try to say you have tired it. There is nothing utterly unique. It is just a cupcake. Admittedly, they are beautiful and a nice assortment of flavors. However, the taste was nothing to write home about. Any flavor within the cake is overpowered by the mountain high stacks of icing on the cupcake. It reminded me of that succulent bowl of fruit that many have on their dining room table. Nice to look at but still plastic. These cupcakes are beautifully made yet lacking in taste. For about 4 dollars per cupcake I would much rather have the flavor. I had the salted caramel cupcake. Two flavors that should stand out with both a sweet and savory component. They didn't. However, this is something I can knock off my foodie bucket list. Yes, I tried a Gigi cupcake. Been there done that.

Your cupcakes were amazing, but Nancy at the counter was unfriendly, and unwilling assist new customers. So we just grabbed a few treats and when to our car to eat them. While in our car in front of store we were shocked at what we saw. Nancy grabbed trash without gloves from your trash can inside your store by the front door and put it inside the strip mall trash can outside by your front door. Maybe she is to lazy to empty her own? Even worse than that was the fact that she sees a customer approach and proceeds to counter and gives him his treats with even washing her hands! Gross and just no respect for your store, hard work and time you have put into to your company or your customers. What a shame!

This review. Is based more on my family than myself, I'm not a huge sweet eater so for me personally there is too much icing and too sweet. My family however loves all that and that is why I go. Friendly staff, very clean store.

This place just opened a week ago and we stopped in on Saturday. I thought the selection was pretty good and it changes daily. I got a coconut and a butter rum cupcake. Way too much frosting for me, so I had to scrape some off. After that, they were pretty good. The wife and kids were happy with theirs and we will probably be back to try some different flavors. I have heard some complaints about the prices. I think they are $33 a dozen or $3 a piece. For a gourmet type cupcake, I didn't think it was terrible. Not something that I would get everyday, but will be back.

Searching for a good cupcake, I wouldn't send you here. Any bakery can offer these cupcakes, and you can get the sugar rush just by eating out of a can of icing. The disinterested service can be found anywhere, as well. This joint is cute, but not nearly living up to the expectations I had after seeing pictures of the actual cupcakes. In pictures, they look much better than in actuality, where what I ordered was basically white cake from a commercial batter with buttercream frosting piled on top. Cupcakes are iced so that the cake goes stale, and my order was just that. 2/3 of both the cupcakes we ordered were just buttercream. Customer service was deplorable as it took 18 minutes to order two cupcakes, as someone ahead had ordered and the counter service was unable to handle the load of two parties in the eatery at the same time. A customer after us was asking for a special that was advertised and the employees had no idea what their own company had as a promotion.l.

Its Sunday (and my birthday) so I was search around town for a cake or cupcake. Nothing fancy, just wanted something to celebrate with. After seeing that most places downtown were closed, I found GiGi's on google maps and then headed over. I should have consulted Yelp first to keep from wasting my time. Its a nice little shop and when I went I was struck by how cool all of the cupcakes looked. There were some great flavors and they were all looking very delish. I was thinking on getting a dozen (a couple for me and then to share at the bar later tonight), and that is when I noticed the price. The are a bit sneaky here. They only list two prices: $3.25 each and $3.00 each when getting a dozen (yeah - I have to do the math now). So, 3x12 = $36! OUCH! I would not have mind spending 20-25 but $36 just seemed a bit over the top. So, I decided to get one, just a triple chocolate, only to discover its gluten free.... NO! I understood why there was a whole tray of them while the other flavors were only 1/2 remaining. The clerk told me, "its good, its like a brownie," to which I replied: "I don't want a brownie, I want a cupcake." I like that one as it had much less frosting, as well. As many have noted, the frosting to cake ratio needs some work. I love sweets and I love frosting, but when there is more frosting than cupcake, something just might be amiss. I settled for an Oreo since many of the flavors from their website (that stated "Today's Menu") were not available. Clearly the cake part is the generally the same across the board (at least that is what I guess as there was no oreo taste to mine). There were, of course, some Oreo pieces on the frosting, but that was about it. When she boxed it up (in a very nice colored, thick cardboard box, complete with plastic insert and a sticker to seal said box, I instantly realized why these were so expensive. YIKES! What a huge packaging waste for a single cupcake. Perhaps offer people $1 off for a bag. I saw the minis on display when I paid (I think they were $15), and I mentioned that they should do more of those. I was informed the minis were pre-boxed in the back (still fresh, I hope?). I would have done that but could not customize it (all chocolate) and then I wondered when they were boxed. I guess for a one time treat this place is okay. I have seen many better cupcake places with better flavors before. I do not care about the sugar content, but please dont loose sight that it is a cupcake and the cake part needs love and attention as well.

So this is a franchise, but I dislike this location simply because cupcakes does not taste as good as the one I had in Madison, Alabama.

The cupcakes were very good. A nice sweet treat but over priced for a cupcake. Id like to try a few more flavors. They have a daily menu to choose from. Price is $3.25 per cupcake.

If you want a good cupcake, Gigi's is not the place to go. I ordered the princess something or another cupcake and it had strawberry cake with a plain buttercream frosting. I have to say that the buttercream was better than some other store bought buttercream but it still wasn't great and there was WAY too much. I had to scrape off half of it just to be able to eat it. As for the cake, if I had been blindfolded and not told what flavor it was, I would have never guessed that it was strawberry. It had no strawberry flavor at all! My boyfriend got the red velvet cupcake and he was also disappointed, in fact, he said that a box mix was better than what he got from Gigi's.(which is saying a lot because I'm sure Gigi's comes from a mix as well.) Also it had some sort of unidentifiable goo in the middle that he said had no flavor so we weren't sure what that was all about. Overall today was my first and last visit to Gigi's, I should have known better than to go to a franchise bakery but my sweet tooth won. Next time I will stick to local bakery's that bake from scratch.

Tasty cupcakes and overall just a fun place to go to! My wife and I stopped by here while we were in town since we don't have one close to our house. We first went to GiGi's in Nashville and were excited to see one recently on our stay in Louisville. So many tasty options here, its hard to pick a few. Be sure to check their website the day you go because they post the flavors for the day!

MR says ... for a sweet tooth ~ i like this place MRS says ... definitely A-OK since there isn't much desserts place around Hurstbourne Parkway. cupcakes here are pretty. nice concept BUT taste can be better. i can't describe what im eating. it's either too sweet or too fatty. i think homemade cupcakes are better except GiGi's know how to decorate :)

Idk why this place only has 3 stars overall. I got half a dozen different flavors for my birthday and all of them were delicious. They do gluten free ones on Fridays. Yes there's tons of icing, but I love tons of icing, and if you don't-scrape some off. They are a national chain, so the cupcakes look beautiful and professional. Give it a shot.

If your into sweet! Then this place better be on your list! The snickerdoodle and southern comfort cup cakes are my favorite although the red velvet, german chocolate are interchangeable! Can't go wrong with any of these!

If you're looking to consume your own body weight in powered sugar, you've found the right place! Any grandma or small child can whip together some powdered sugar and butter/shortening to put on top of a cupcake. I don't get why anyone would PAY someone else to do this. If you like your cake to be more attractive than tasty, then I guess I understand.
