We had reservations for 4 on a Saturday night at 8pm. We arrived about 15 minutes early and the maître d' (using this word makes me sound sophisticated!) sat us down and took our drink orders. They have a great bourbon, wine, & cocktail selection. The atmosphere is very romantic & elegant; a piano player plays light music in the background which is low enough for you to converse with your group, but also loud enough for you to enjoy throughout the whole night (if that makes any sense). The restaurant architecture is also awesome, making you feel like you are stepping into a mobster movie set from 50/60's. The service was great, we never had a glass half empty and they ensured we had a perfect evening. We ordered bacon wrapped shrimp for an appetizer which was a hit. The BLT salad was insanely good. For the main entree, I order the 18oz porter house (daily special), which was cooked to perfection (medium rare) which came with corn, black bean, & potato hash, which was a great compliment to the steak. My wife ordered the bourbon chicken saltimbocca, which she highly enjoyed. Buck's is a prime spot, a bit pricey to make this a weekend regular, but great service, atmosphere, and food make it worth every penny. This will always be in the rotation for our special occasion restaurants.

Love the atmosphere, and the chef is amazing. The drinks, appetizers, main course, and dessert was great and full of flavor! There is also a live pianist that plays in the nighttime. I would recommend this place to everyone! Good for date night!

Atmosphere 5, service 5, food 3.5. We visited Buck's with a friend who is a frequent customer. My wife and I had the the crispy fish which was reminiscent of the crispy flounder we have enjoyed in Charleston, but not quite as good. I loved the atmosphere and especially the piano player whose voice had Nate King Cole characteristics.

Wonderful staff, fantastic service, great food, and great Bourbon selection. We arrived in Louisville late in the afternoon and checked into our B&B near downtown in the Historic district. The B&B owner recommended a few restaurants to us within walking distance and we chose Buck's. What a great choice. Immediately the staff was very outgoing and ready to take care of us. Food was plentiful with a decent and not over-priced wine list. Great atmosphere with a live piano player and our waiter Jason was very attentive to our needs. Hidden gem in Louisville.

i really wanted to make reservations. but their online menu spells pecans PEACON. i can't get past that.

Good appetizer options. It was some time ago, but I think I had a fish dish, that was fantastic! Excellent service, and I love any place that has a guy playing a piano and singing! Not sure which nights he is on though. Slightly upscale and older crowd, so put your nice shoes on!

Can't go wrong. Too many bourbons to count but was burned out on whiskey and defaulted to vodka martinis. Fodr was excellent as was service. Just do it!

Very nice place. I had the largest piece of Filet Mignon I've ever seen. Excellent service. And fantastic Kentucky Bourbon Whisky bar with a huge selection. I would recommend Buck's. Word of warning, expect to spend around $35-50+ per person and wear something kind of nice.

Hosted a customer dinner here tonight. It went very well- the ambiance was classy, old school decor. Got a feel for Old School Louisville. Piano player provided entertainment throughout the evening- the restaurant was not too crowded, but lively enough. The food was spectacular- we shared two appetizers- Shrimp w chutney, and Arancini- both were executed really well. My dinner (chicken saltimbocca- bourbon glazed) was just amazing, came with asparagus and potato cake. Completely finished that! Two folks at the table had the crispy fish and one other had the scotch salmon. Everyone was incredibly pleased. The food execution was a 5+ tonight! Ambiance was retro, and I was still happy with the entire meal- we left after 2.5 hours and it seemed like less than an hour. I recommend this place for romantic evenings, or even a night out with friends- you will be really happy!

My husband and I recently visited Bucks for the first time. I have always wanted to try it and with the Groupon they recently ran it was the perfect opportunity! The restaurant itself is beautiful, especially the bar with lots of glass, mirrors, and fresh white flowers. We had made a reservation and were seated immediately when we arrived. We were close to the piano with the musician playing and singing. She had a very nice voice but I did feel the music was a bit on the loud side which made it a little difficult to talk. I don't know if I got used to it or if it actually got quieter over the course of the evening but it definitely didn't seem as loud later on. On to the food! I ordered the house salad and the filet. The salad was delicious! I am a blue cheese lover and this salad was covered with it. If you are not a big fan you should probably consider another salad as my husband did because it is definitely too much to just eat around. My husband went with the Caesar salad and he enjoyed it also. I was shocked by the size if my filet when it arrived. By filet standards it was massive. It also came with a blue cheese topping, which I loved, and mashed potatoes and asparagus. Maybe I just haven't had good mashed potatoes in a while but I thought these were fantastic. My husband had the New York strip and he also enjoyed his meal. We shared a chocolate torte for dessert and it was wonderful as well. As I said before we had a reservation as was recommended by Groupon and I have to wonder if a lot of other tables just showed up shortly after we were seated because our server seemed to be spread a little thin as if his section was heavily seated fairly quickly. Usually reservations help to avoid this situation and allow servers to best serve their tables. Overall we would definitely dine at Bucks again!

I thought I was selling out by getting the fried fish at such a swanky place, but I was very surprised on how tasty this meal was. The soft crunch was paired perfectly with the actual tenderness of the delicious fish. The sauce was not too heavy and complimented well with the rice and fish.

Amazing meal in a beautiful restaurant. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice night out. Filet, c rispy fish with sweet chili and chicken saltimbocca were all delicious!

My boyfriend and I are in town on business, and wanted to find a special place to celebrate my birthday dinner. Fortunately, we chose Buck's. The lovely historic neighborhood and lush green park nearby started to set the mood, but once we walked through the door, my breath was taken away. A profusion of gorgeous white flowers on the bar, along with sparkling tea lights lent a magical cast to the room. We were pleasantly greeted and whisked away to a nice little corner table where I could fully take in the ambiance of this jewel of a place. Lovely decor, friendly and attentive service and the amazing sounds of Rick Bartlett on the piano created the perfect atmosphere for a romantic interlude. And then there was the food. I absolutely love food - and this restaurant created delights that I will lust after long after we have returned home to Austin. The Fried Oysters Rockefeller were heavenly, and my Spicy Cantonese Noodles with Shrimp were to die for. Richard had the NY Strip with Truffle Butter...soooo delicious. Buck's is simply a MUST DO in Louisville...

Lovely dining experience last night with a party of 3. The service was pleasant from the time I called to make reservations until dessert. The decor was as beautiful as it has always been, and in my opinion, one of the most beautiful restaurants in Louisville. So quaint and romantic. The food was delicious...we had a BLT salad and the sweet potato steak hash to start with, and our table ordered the bucatini with brandy cream sauce, the salmon with saffron aioli and jalapeño and tropical fruit chutney, and the special, a beef tenderloin tip special. I personally tried all three and they were all great! Mocha daquoise to finish, per family tradition, was perfect. Our waiter was overall nice but a bit clumsy in service and hard to hear in a loud restaurant, in the way that led us to believe he was relatively new to fine dining, but if that was our biggest problem, we were pretty lucky.

We're staying down the street at an home from AirBnB, saw this restaurant while walking around the neighborhood. While walking over to it for dinner, a gentlemen saw us, complimented us on our attire and then asked if we were from the area. We said no, he recommended it, and we confirmed that is actually where we were on our way to. Upon walking in the bar is filled with bourbon bottles (to be expected) & vases of white flowers. At first I thought it was neat, but upon sitting there I felt an increasing sense that I was in a funeral parlor. I liked the mix-matched china. The bread and butter served is lackluster. The fried brussel sprout side is tremendous. My husband liked the quail. I had the filet mignon. It was not a delicious or flavorful steak at all. A bit disappointed. Not enough sauce. Very traditional served with asparagus and plain old mashed potatoes. My martini was good, (Buck's) and my husband had a beer he was happy with. Overall, it was nice but I didn't leave there thinking this place would haunt me for life with an exceptional memory of to die for food. We're in Louisville for our anniversary, so we were hoping this would be our special meal. I'll still keep looking.

Had lunch on the patio yesterday afternoon. We were greeted warmly by host Rick Bartlett, and assured that we certainly weren't too late for lunch at 2:15. The patio is at the front of the restaurant, shaded by a pair of giant old beech (?) trees, and there was a soft breeze. Ormsby is a fairly quiet street, so it was the perfect spot for a lazy late afternoon lunch. Many kudos to our server Rachel, who took excellent care of us, staying well past their 3pm closing hour to serve our party of 3. I had the Beef Gorgonzola, my companions had the Crispy Fish with Hot Sweet Chili and the daily special, a Country Ham Ribeye with sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, nice portions with excellent preparation, and the Mocha Dacquoise, a house specialty that we shared for dessert, was to die for. I definitely recommend Buck's, looking forward to having dinner there soon.

Never heard of this restaurant. Saw a groupon. Looked the restaurant up. Bought the groupon. Worth it. Located in Old Louisville, on Ormsby. Odd location. Beautiful interior. Gorgeous setting. Excellent service. Presentation is fantastic. Great restaurant for a date, anniversary, birthday, and the like. Food was terrific. Sea scallops were on point. Salad was crispy. Good wine selection. Wife had the chicken. Chicken was phenomenal. One of the best dinners in Louisville. They have a piano man. He reminded me of Randy Newman. I hate Randy Newman. Absolutely loathe Randy Newman. Therefore, 4*. If you like Randy Newman, then I will pray for your soul. But Buck's is most definitely your place.

I recently had dinner at Buck's with my beau and his mom and we loved it. I have been a couple of times before but not for a while. I picked it for our recent dinner because of how stunning the decor is inside. His mom was overly impressed with it. We all enjoyed our food; i especially liked the sweet potato and brussel sprout risotto. The brussel sprouts were cooked and flavored perfectly! Always nice to leave with a pretty flower too. And...within walking distance of my new digs.

Buck's is without a doubt my favorite fine dining restaurant in Louisville. The entire experience is as close to perfect as you can get. The atmosphere is gorgeous and romantic. White flowers all over the place. Dim lighting. Piano playing in the background. Beautiful, candlelit table setting with eclectic china and real silver utensils. The bar setup is the coolest I've ever seen. The bar is lined with bourbon bottles and vases of flowers. They have so many bourbon choices, I didn't see a single bottle repeated. And yes, they have Pappy's. The service is top notch. The host, whom I presume to be Buck, is kind and gracious. He warmly greeted us as soon as we walked in. He went out of his way to recognize that we were celebrating a birthday, placing rose petals on our table and sprinkling them with birthday "wishes." Throughout the meal, he checked on us and made conversation with us. He knows what customer service is all about: the little things. His hospitality was appreciated, and truly sets Buck's above the rest. The food also sets Buck's above the rest. I can't wait to try everything from the menu; it all sounds amazing. On this particular visit, I went with the special of the night and I couldn't have been more satisfied. It was a 16 oz ribeye with Bearnaise sauce, asparagus, and fingerling potatoes. Wow! It was out-of-this-world good. Not only was the ribeye perfectly cut and cooked to a juicy, tender medium rare, it was much bigger than the advertised 16 ounces - it had to be at least 20 ounces. I rarely have leftovers, and I took about half home. Seriously, the entire dish was perfection and well worth the price of approximately $35. There's a reason the most appropriate adjective I've used here is "perfect." I don't use that term lightly, but Buck's earns it.

I listed ten reasons why this was my favorite dinning experience of the year on our walk back to the bed and breakfast. 1. The food was excellent, I had the quail. I was hesitant to order this dish because of the Brussel sprouts, but I ate them all.2. The bar was littered with a unique/absurd mix of flower arrangements and bourbon bottles. 3. The inspiration for this restaurant's decor was a "Moon Garden" and our last name is Moon. 4. The Service 5. Our server had the voice and showmanship of a game show host. 6. I loved the mixed matched China 7. The average patron was likely 72 years old, which added to the charm. 8.The neighborhood is diverse in many ways. 9. They gave me a Star of Bethlehem flower as a parting gift. 10. Live music played while we dined. (I came up with even more reasons why I loved this establishment on our walk home, but I think this list will suffice.)

We were looking for a nice place to have dinner on the fly. We were early walk-ins about 5:30pm after a disastrous wedding reception we had attended down the street. (I would suggest reservations in the main dining room, if I had planned in advance.) The atmosphere was eclectic Old Louisville with a soft background of live piano music (beginning after 6pm) accompanied with obscure antique China place settings with real silver. I've included pictures of the table setting, our appetizer, salad and entrées. Our server was outstanding and every aspect of our meal was perfect. Each bite was worth savoring. We had a unplanned, incredibly romantic dinner by candlelight. Bucks turned our evening into a memorable experience. ~Mrs. J

Wow! This place is amazing! My boyfriend and I made reservations for February 13 because they were booked for Valentine's Day. I called 3 weeks ahead and they only had openings for Valentine's at 5 and 9. Jeez, I didn't know people booked this holiday so early. We had a reservation at 7, but we were late. Their small lot was full and street parking was rather difficult to find. Our table wasn't ready when we came in, so we were seated at the bar for a few minutes. The bar was beautiful with so many white flowers (carnations, I don't know what else). The atmosphere was lovely with the pianist playing. He did a rendition of John Legend's All of Me. I loved it. Once we were seated, I thought the tables were rather close together, but once we settled in and started talking, it wasn't a problem. I didn't hear much of anyone else's conversations. We had the bruschetta and the crab cake for appetizers. They were both perfect! I had country fried quail with brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. Fried quails were stuffed and delicious. I don't usually like brussels sprouts, but these tasted amazing. Mashed potatoes had a great texture but they tasted aight. My boyfriend had grilled Scottish salmon. He thought his dish was good, but the aioli overwhelmed him. I thought his dish was decent, but I definitely preferred my quail dish over his. I got a flower at the end of the meal, as I noticed ladies at other tables received once their parties got the check. It was a nice gesture on the restaurant's behalf, but I think they should give or offer everyone who dines in a flower. I accepted the flower, but my boyfriend kept it. There was a male gay couple next to us on a Valentine's date also, and I wondered if one of them received a flower also. I didn't stay long enough to see if they did. Service was on the slow side. We must've waited 5 minutes or so for the waitress to greet us and take drink orders. She was not that attentive, and I felt we did spend a lot of time waiting, but the restaurant was definitely busy. A friend who frequents this restaurant warned me that service is usually on the slow side. Despite that, I'd definitely come back.

Oh. My. GOSH! I would TOTALLY love to live in this restaurant! Mix-matched china everywhere, nice silverware, tons of white flowers, and it's on the Urban Bourbon trail! I didn't think it could get any better...until the food came out!!! A steak burger with potato salad doesn't sound like anything overwhelming, but when you add a bacon chipotle compote on the burger it's AMAZING! My friend got the chicken stir fry and the chicken was moist and tender and had great flavor. The service was impeccable, they box up your left overs for you :) Everything came out with good timing as well. Will totally be back here, but probably just for lunch because I'm broke and dinner looked a little pricey.

Elegant little space, lots of fresh flowers, with piano player singing classics from the 1940's-1990s on a Friday night. This place would be fun for a date, but I'm here on business. Most diners here are couples, it figures. Most eclectic mix of fine China of numerous patterns including silver plate flatware, don't remember an assortment like this before, stemware for wine was all the same and very good. . Wines by the glass all OK and lots of choices and reasonable. For bourbon drinkers, they have everything, but we are in Louisville, over 50 local examples, Pappy Van Winkle included. Special cream of mushroom soup tonight was excellent, Caesar salad good, staples of filet, strip, duck, lamb no complaints anywhere. The house special pan fried sausage stuffed game hen was raved about. This place is fun, special, service friendly from Michael who I would have thought worked here forever said he has only been here 1.5 years; he knew the menu, best deals and specials by heart, service quite professional. I don't think there is bad creme brûlée anywhere only good and better and the classic product here is definitely superior tonight. This place reminds me of Hugo's Cellar in downtown Las Vegas for anyone who remembers it.

I hate to admit this, but I lived in Louisville seven years before I ever made it to Buck's. I went to UofL so I always knew about Buck's because of its close proximity to campus, but somehow, for one reason or another, I never went. Finally, I decided to check it out last year. After I went there for the first time I regretted not checking it out sooner. You walk into Buck's and feel like you're transported to a different place. Huge vases of white flowers adorn the bar and restaurant. The interior feels like its from a different time period, but it a good way. It's classy without being stuffy. What about the food? Amazing. I would put it up against most restaurants in Louisville. Its all good. I've never had a bad meal here. My favorites are the country fried quail, crispy fish, and the pork chop. The service is good, the prices are reasonable, and you get a ton of food. Do yourself a favor and check this place out.

Strip steak outclassed any of the other big name steak joints in town. Pat's? Forget it. Jeff Ruby's is close, but way higher in price and not nearly as high quality side items. Haven't had Eddie Merlot's, but after eating here, I don't think I will bother. Just about every aspect was impressing. Great atmosphere, great food, and great service. And local.

It's probably all of the fresh cut white flowers, but there is such wonderful ambiance at Buck's. It's one of my favorite places for a cocktail in the city - makes one feel very Old Hollywood glamorous. Amazing bourbon selection - if you've heard of it, they serve it. If you haven't heard of it, you may still spot something on the bar to pique your interest. I had my first lunch at Buck's the other day - I'm not sure why it hadn't occurred to me as a lunch spot before. The prices were surprisingly reasonable and the food was excellent. The service was good, but not stellar. I can't quite justify the 5th star when my water glass sat empty for much of our meal, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Feeling a bit underwhelmed by this place. The atmosphere - 5 stars (well minus the bathroom, ha, but we'll get to that.) The drinks - 4 stars. The appetizers - 3.5. The main dish, the main reason you go there, I have a hard time even giving 3. For 30-something dollars I expect to be wowed by an entree here in Louisville. Maybe I am spoiled, but I have had amazing meals for 10 here. I got the lamb and was so excited. It came out and first impression was glad I ate appetizers! There were 5 legs of lamb that were two bites each. Not exactly a plate full of food. The potatoes they were on were pretty good and the lamb was decent. No where near the best I've had, a touch dry. We were amused with the women's bathroom, which was riddled in oxymorons. The cheap 70s floor tile, beautiful mirror, the stall to the right didn't even kind of lock. I was actually laughing at this one. Fancy place, two stalls, and the lock didn't even line up. It was a solid 1/2 inch or so off and appeared to have been that way a while. Then a fancy washtub with those ugly cheap knobs on the sink. Thanks for that. I think I would return maybe for happy hours, but probably not to dine - at least not on my dollar.

An absolutely marvelous place. Took my girlfriend of 3 years here on our anniversary. The beautiful decor captures your eye the moment you walk in. The friendly staff took our coats at the door and gave us a quick history of the place as we waited for our table. We tried the bacon wrapped shrimp as an appetizer and it was delightful.

Michelle Beale picked this restaurant for our WABCO post mats trade show company dinner AND THIS PLACE KNOCKED it out the park. Great wine selection, shrimp appetizers, filet , and flourless chocolate tort. Great service and atmosphere. Would highly recommend even though its a bit off the normal path. Amen!

Such a great experience. From the white flowers all around in glasses to the decor to the piano player. My daughter and I had reservations Friday night at 7:30. We arrived about a half an hour early so she said we could get a cocktail at the bar while they got our table ready. The menu all looked great so I couldn't decide what to get. I asked the waitress what she would choose and she said the crispy fish was the best seller so I chose that. My daughter chose the salmon. They were both very tasty. My daughter mentioned that even the potatoes on her plate were to die for. Also, all of the staff was so helpful and friendly. A+, Buck!

Not a place to get in a hurry to eat as they make it a dining experience. From appetizers to main course to dessert everything was fantastic. The filet was so tender you won't need a knife. And if you like bourbon they have over 80 varieties. Piano player playing and singing was the icing on the cake!

Had an amazing meal, the rack of lamb was perfect, ambiance was great and they were very attentive. Parents had their 42nd anniversary so I took them at the suggestion of a co-worker, I can honestly tell you that it was worth every penny. Excellent wine list BTW. A bit pricey but totally worth it.

Stepping into Buck's is like stepping back in time - with the glamorous large bar, tinkling live piano music and fresh flowers, I almost expected to turn around and see Marilyn Monroe giggling coquettishly to Al Capone. The vibe is totally bygone opulence but in a very fun, nostalgic way. Highlights of the meal were the wedge salad (one of my favorite things to order at any place also serving steak, and Buck's makes a good wedge), the Filet Mignon, and the Bread Pudding dessert with bourbon caramel sauce. I love both bread pudding and most bourbon-flavored desserts, and the combination at Buck's is out of this world! I was less thrilled about the fried oysters and crabcakes - they weren't the best rendition of either I have ever had. One thing I noticed and liked was that food is served on pieces of fine but mis-matched China, which made me feel like I was dining at a good friend's home rather than being part of a group that needs to be served and shipped out the door to turn a table. Service was perfect for the function I attended, which included a dinner speaker. The waitstaff balanced their service well, avoiding being obtrusive or invisible - cardinal sins of any server that never be committed! I took half my meal home and the server was kind enough to put re-heating instructions on my steak and dessert - both were just as good the next day, always a plus. I would definitely recommend Buck's for both a romantic evening out (wink-wink, nudge-nudge to the SO!) and a corporate function.

The best! Table cloths, mixed china, goblets and fresh flowers on the tables, and a pianist. Food was wonderful!!! Mike had the Pork Chop stuffed with gouda cheese. It was the most tender bone-in chop I have ever tasted & the crispy brussels sprouts were wonderful. I had the Risotto with 3 huge scallops with & brussels sprouts as well. Both of our meals were delicious. Had signature dessert that I cannot remember the name of, but was wonderful. Portions will not leave you hungry. We were pleasantly stuffed. Server was very attentive. Need a really special place to dine, this is it! Lovely place, lovely meal. No picture, unfortunately, it was blurry : (.

Such a wonderful place! The atmosphere and decor is lovely, you feel like you're sitting in a moon-lit garden. There was a piano player in a tux during dinner, and Buck himself greeted us and gave us flowers when we left. The food was delicious, and I will definitely go back every time I'm in the area. It has the look and feel (and food) of a very upscale dining experience, but Buck doesn't mind if you show up in jeans and flip-flops! ;-)

I'm giving Buck's a 5 star rating despite the poor service. I had one of the best meals ever (it's up there with a Florentine steak I had in a restaurant in Florence). The stuffed quail was unbelievable. It's cooked perfectly, extremely moist with house made sausage stuffing. My dinner mates both had the pork chops that were equally impressive. You walk in and hear the pianist playing standards and smell fresh white flowers everywhere. It's like walking into a midnight garden in Charleston. Our server would forget drinks and was not very attentive. She admitted to being tired due to having to work a double so I am giving her a pass. However the food was so incredible and executed so well that the service became a minor issue.

I took my wife for an anniversary dinner. The food was fantastic. The waiter was pleasant. The ambiance was everything I could hope for in a romantic dinner. Rick Bartlett played and sang some old standards and it was just the icing on the cake. Speaking of cake, the mocha dacquoise is one of the best things I have ever tried in a dessert.

Went there for my partners birthday. The place is a little stuffy & don't believe them when they say shorts are fine. We walked in with nice shirts &' shorts and the resturant stopped & looked. LOL That being said. Food was really good we had the oysters rockafellas &'they were sweet almost like candy. We should've gotten two orders. I got the special the Mediterranean flounder with kus kus & was really good. He got the fillet mignon &'it was perfect Decor was very nice & historic. Only bad thing was drink service. Really shouldn't take 20min for a dirty martini & a Amstel light when the place isn't that busy

My husband and I celebrated Valentines Day at Bucks and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Things to note: 1) The service was absolutely outstanding for the entirety of our visit! 2) I had the risotto with the additional shrimp and i can honestly say it is the best I have ever had. The combination of sweet potato, cheese, and brussel sprouts was wonderful! 3) My husband enjoyed the steak which was cooked to perfection. 4) The only negative I have is with the cocktail I had. One of my favorite drinks is a Lily and I regularly enjoy them during derby season! Unfortunately, the Lily at Bucks just wasn't at all what it should have been... Didn't even taste close really... That being said, I certainly wouldn't let that keep us from enjoying this place again.

This was my first visit to Bucks and I was very pleased. We had a $50 group-on and it was accepted with no problem. For a week night the place was packed and I am glad we made reservations. The host told me they had 25 walk-ins and apologized for the slower than normal service. However, we had told our server that we were in no hurry and were enjoying our conversation, so no worries. The food was excellent. There was plenty of off street parking. The place is classy in an old school sort of way. White linen table cloths, linen hand towels in restrooms. Prices are in line with other upscale places - less than a Ruth Chris. I had a chicken cordon blue type dish, my partner a shrimp, pasta something and we split a dessert as well as a couple of salads and I also had a bourbon. Totaled out to around $80 or so before the tip, less the groupon. The host, who might be Buck, was a neat older guy sporting an indian head nickel belt and shared a few stories with us. The bourbon selection is great - probably more than 50 choices. No prices on bourbon menu, so I went with a Knob Creek on the rocks for $11. It was a decent pour but a bit too much ice. Getting to Bucks might lead you through some sketchy hoods depending on your direction of travel. Once there, it's all good. A great place for a date. Outdoor seating available. Noise level a bit loud depending on crowd. I will return

I knew they had a change up in the kitchen staff, but the food and service were pretty lame. I ordered the "special", a cod dish. It appeared as if it had been under some warming lamps for 20 minutes, not very good for the price. Service was very slow, to the point that at least, one of the employees apologized for it on our way out.

Nice interior with mix and match China and tableware. Fresh flowers and a pianist playing every night. Well dressed waitres(ses). But price and quality combined only three stars. Maybe because of the choices we've made (nothing spectacular), maybe because of our expections after all the good reviews and references. We had an excellent evening with a party of five, but it just hadn't had the WOW factor we were hoping for. Portions are big and quality is oke, but both the steak and the signature stir fry were not overwhelming. The stir fry was even dissappointing. I've expectated more vegetables and less of the pasta (?). I split the signature dessert which name I forgot. Also not very impressive. Oke, but not more than that. Our friends that joined us had less ordinary choices and were satisfied with their choices. Only complaint they had regarded the dimmed lights which made it hard to read the menu and the huge portions. But age probably playes a part in this either. And please excuse any grammar and spelling mistakes. English is not my first language. And if that isn't enough, my Apple device keeps trying to autocorrect the English words into 'proper Dutch'. Yes, you've guessed right: my first language.

Absolute gem in the heart of old Louisville. From the piano player, to the white florals and vintage China- Buck's is a perfect blend of elegance and charm. Great reviews from our group on: soup de jour, wedge salad, filet mignon, strip, salmon & pasta dish.

Excellent, unique dining experience at a reasonable price! Skip the overpriced downtown restaurants and head for Bucks. Filet Mignon was incredible! Bourbon chicken and Salmon were also very good. Cocktails are well prepared! This is a must dining experience when visiting Louisville!

The food was great - I had the bourbon chicken saltimboca and my husband had the fillet, and we shared the oysters Rockefeller and crab cakes appetizers. The mocha martinis were good, but we each had two and swear there wasn't any alcohol in them. Negative aspects were that we were the youngest couple by about 40 years and the service was rushed. I would rather go to Jack Fry's.

Dress your best or they'll seat you next to the piano, where you can't hear your date, or in the back where you can't see her because it's too dark. Great NY Strip Steak and decent wedge salad. Bonus: they had 15 Year Pappy Van Winkle. The interior is opulent in that Old Kentucky way. Tony did a great job serving, but seemed a little new on the job.

I made a reservation for a date and I, we showed up at 8p, they already had a table ready for us. I was pleased and the place look really nice, very quiet and relaxing. Perfect ideal for a date, birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations. Very romantic. Their food was amazing, I had a filet mignon, they cooked it perfectly the way I wanted, well-done. If you are thinking about taking your date there, my best advise is don't bring him/her who is a picky eater. A friend I went with is really a picky eater so it took forever for him to decide which to order even though only few on the menu. I had to pick one out for him, the chicken kind. He didn't care for it so he didn't finish, I had to eat half of his plate and took the rest home with me. "But damn, that chicken is really good. How can you not lik...." "Sorry, I'm a picky eater, I only eat soul food." I will be back when my family visit or when I have a date, forget the picky eaters. The waiting staff were really nice and very friendly. They were always on top to make sure everything is ok and filled up your glass of water often.

Romantic dining! Buck's is located in the historic Mayflower building. You walk into a "moon garden" atmosphere. The restaurant has dark green walls with white flowers everywhere. The candlelight and piano music add to the romance in the air. The service was excellent. Our waitress made sure we had everything we needed for a perfect evening. We started with the crab cakes for the appetizer. They are served with a fried green tomato and were fabulous. What a unique combination. I decided since I was in Louisville then I should order something cooked with bourbon. I ordered the bourbon chicken saltimbocca which was a pecan encrusted chicken in a bourbon sauce. It was served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The food was delicious and worth every penny.

The service was a little slow. I ordered the wedge salad which was just ok. I would have expected some really good thick crisp bacon being in Louisville and but it was just a few crumbles. There were a few brown spots on the lettuce too. For my main I got the pork chop, which was the best pork chop I ever ate. It was cooked perfect, juicy and deliciously seasoned. If not for the service being a little slow and the salad just being ok. I would have rated a 5 star. I say go and enjoy. They have a decent wine and bourbon list too!

Fantastic food and service! Emily was our waiter and did a phenomenal job taking care of me and my date. Food was outstanding! We started with the fried oyster, split a Greek salad and I finished with New York strip and my date had the salmon. Then we ended with a fantastic dessert but forgot the name of it. Def looked homemade. A plus plus.
