Raw oysters and hurricanes? Dear lord this land locked fry shack belongs on the beach and you cannot get that crab boil in a bucket feel anywhere else in Lexington yet. After having been here twice I have to critique it. The snow crab, Thai lobster tails, and shrimp are simply old. The shells have gone brown and softened with the meat sticking to the shell. You are much better off buying frozen crab and lobster from the nearby Kroger and steaming it yourself. They have rotating side dishes and I was a fan of the fried okra and green tomatos but the rice and beans in a microwave bag where dissapointing. I spent over $120 for two people with drinks each time I went here.

Cozy, down to earth , neighborhood joint !! A gathering place for good old friends to chat over a strong drink, and great sea food. Bartender has been there for over 20 years, and she is wonderful and attentive to all customers. I had grilled Mahi Mahi and it was fantastic !! Stop by and have a drink !! I was pleasantly surprised with quality of food & drink !!l

Pros: Decent fried oysters and clams Cons: I have gotten better service at McDonalds. We have been here a few times over the past few years and I get the feeling that unless your a regular you don't matter. Our side plates that were brought out for our appetizer were dirty. Everything was either super bland or extremely salty. Waitress bought my mother the wrong order and she gave us some attitude about it. Won't be going back, definitely the last time we will go there.

Came for Sunday brunch. We sat in a nook to ourselves which was kind of nice and had some very tasty sangria to start off. The crab cakes benedict that I had were pretty incredible. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the crab cakes themselves were flavorful without being overpowering. The prices weren't that bad. Our server was a lanky teen that was super and probably should have been managing the place. I'd like to try their regular fare, but the brunch menu had some great stuff that I would definitely eat again.

I absolutely love going for the raw oysters on Mondays. The best part is, THEY ARE HALF OFF!!!! I can't give it 5 stars because the service isn't the best and some of the other food seems sub-par, but if you are looking for raw oysters at a great price, this is the place to go!.

The good: some of the food The bad: the rest of the food, the decor, the customer service. The Rundown: this place has been around for a while, though I don't really know why. I had the salmon salad and buffalo wings. Really disappointed in the wings, the sauce is very mild and the blue cheese that comes with it is like ranch with a few blue cheese chunks. Their hush puppies are small and nothing really special. The decor looks dated, dull and boring. All the action is around the bar, which is full of men in their 60s and older even though it is 1pm on a Saturday. Our server was curt and had no personality. The Impression: not a place worth trying. At least the blackened salmon was cooked well, if you could tell through the heavily mayonnaise based dressing.

I would love to to write a great review of any locally owned restaurant close to where I live. That being said, The Ketch seafood and grill is one of those places you are likely to see on a food reality show in desperate need for a rescue. Food: frozen to fryer. Canned green veggies. Bread was day old. Nothing homemade minus the hushpuppies. Service: Slow. They do not care. Period. Atmosphere: Dated. fun looking bar crowd of regulars (3 guys) who where only drinking and desperately flirting with the young female bar staff.

Great day for lunch on the patio! Sunny with a cool breeze. How refreshing. We had the clam platter and the salmon croquets. Clam Chowder and hush puppies. It was all delicious and quickly delivered by Beverly. I highly recommend it.

Awesome oysters Best in Lexington.. other seafood beats regatta hands down.... Staff is always helpful and friendly too .. I like to have a Caesar salad and my husband and I share a deadliest catch bucket. But seriously you can't get better large plump oysters on half she'll like this! Short of being on the coast somewhere this is it for the avid oyster lover. To top it off the bar is awesome and always an ample pour of whatever your imbibing in!!!

Wish I would have heeded the below review by Brian. B. before going to this place for dinner. "Great patio. Go here to have drinks. Food is mediocre at best, but usually bad, and very over-priced." That pretty much says it all. Good: bread, cole slaw, side salad, patio Bad: everything else I had an over-salted, fishy tasting piece of Grouper for $20. There was a bone in my first bite. None of our entrees were served hot. My side of green beans tasted like they came from a can. Overall, this was a fairly disgusting dining experience. No one finished their entree. Wait service was sketchy and the food took forever to arrive. At one point our waitress walked up to the table, apparently looking to clear our plates, then realized we hadn't received our food yet. "No food yet?" she said with a puzzled look. Note that there are three filtered reviews at the bottom. They are 1-star, 1-star, and 2-stars. Those have been removed from the Ketch's overall rating. Based on my dining experience at this place, those three reviews sounded spot on. Not sure why Yelp is removing apparently legitimate reviews from the ratings.

Good place. Enjoyed the food, and the outside atmosphere was excellent. Wait staff were friendly and positive, but it look a long time to get our food, and the price was a bit high for the area.

It's hard to find a place for oysters in a landlocked state. They have them here for a decent price (better then malones the only other place I've found them and not be ridiculously expensive ). this place is always packed. probably the best seafood restaurant in town, but again, we are in the middle of a landlocked state, sooooo take that with a grain of salt.

Went to The Ketch for the first time last night. We started with the Baked Oyster Trio. It has Hardwood Grilled Oysters, Oysters Chesapeake, and Oysters 'Rock. My favorite were the Hardwood Grilled Oysters. They also bring out fresh rolls and butter to the table but.......I was afraid that I would lose to much stomach room and so I skipped on the bread. However, they appeared to be very light, fluffy yeast rolls that were baked just right. Next we had the Ceaser Salad. It was very tastey. The dressing appears to be made at the restaurant. It tasted fresh and bright. The light flavor of anchovies came through nicely and the croutons were big and nicely herbed. Next was the Gucamole. Very fresh, clean, crisp lime flavor. The "chips" were deepfried flour shells that were also fresh. Nothing worse than soggy old fried flour shells, if you have ever had the horrid experience. Lastly, we had the Deadliest Ketch Bucket of Opilio crab. It was cooked when we ordered it as it was warm and wet. Hmmmmm, never mind. Served with plenty of butter but it was so sweet that it really didn't need it. We will be going back for further evaluations but I think that we will be getting along rather well.

Food was great, but the service was horrible. Waitress could not get the bill figured out, and kept disappearing. We were there 2 hours and 20 minutes for supper, and it was not busy.

  • Paul C.

This place is a hidden local gem. If you're thinking of going to Regatta, don't, come here. Real wood fired grill, excellent southern seafood and steaks, and all the sauces and desserts are made fresh on site. The only downside is don't be in a hurry. Whether it's busy or nearly empty service is slow, but the food us always freshly made and worth the wait. Busiest time is brunch on Sunday, they have an excellent brunch menu. Prices are reasonable for the quality you get. Still cheaper than Regatta.

Okay first I find it VITAL to note how sad I am that this place does not have an average of five stars. As a seafood lover, how I lived here 20 years and never knew this place existed until now is beyond me but I am here to tell you I will never go any other place for seafood again! The place is older because it's been open for over 30 years which I think should tell you a lot about the food because it has stayed in business for so long. I love the look of the place because it reminds me of those beach shacks along the coast in seaside towns that are known for their seafood and therefore don't need to razzle dazzle the walls! My mother and I ordered the Crab-stuffed Mushrooms as an appetizer which was an absolute home-run. I then had the Grill Blackened Salmon with hush puppies and cajun red beans & rice for my entrée, The salmon was cooked perfectly and boy was did it have flavor!!! The hush puppies were made from scratch and provided with an also homemade honey butter that alone was to die for! The cajun red beans didn't hold the heat that I was expecting but I eat really spicy stuff and my mother thought they were so I don't know. My mom got the Gulf Oysters lunch platter with hush puppies as her side and raved about them the whole time she ate. Our server's name was Beverly and she was the shit hands down. Not too worrisome and we never had to ask her for a thing! She was so personable though and helped us make up our mid because we had never been here before! I could go on and on about this place and how much I can't wait to get back there again but then I would be taking up the time that it takes for you to get there and try it yourself! You WILL NOT be dissapointed!

I've absolutely had better seafood. They have their specialties, but there have been a couple of times when my food wasn't cooked properly. Other times everything is great. Hit or miss. Oysters are the best in town, though, and the patio is really nice. Other than the mediocre food, the service was always very good.

Whenever someone has suggested having a fish taco, I cringed a bit. It just didn't seem to go together. After having Ketch Seafood's fish taco, I'm like WOW, I can't believe I haven't tried this before. It was so delicious. I savored every bite. I will highly recommend fish tacos in the future...at least from this place.

Our local friends, Scott and Jane, mentioned this restaurant. It is hidden away on a side street off Southland Drive. The outside looks like a run down bar and there IS a bar (with obligatory television) just inside the door. But in the kitchen is a seafood angel who conjures up delicious southern seafood specialties. We ate there several times during the last trip, each time beguiled by the daily specials -- Fried Catfish and Froglegs, Oyster Stew, Shrimp Etoufee, Cajun Gumbo. None of it is haute cuisine, but all of it is delicious. After one too many holiday meals I even decided on a salad, and I can't wait to make this one at home -- Calypso Salad with greens, mandarin orange slices, almonds, dried cranberries, and homemade Louis dressing. The part I can't duplicate are the tender grilled Gulf Shrimp on top. Did I mention the hush puppies and the Hoppin' John? All the dressings and sauces are made in house -- oh, the Remoularde!!! Someday I will even have room for the homemade pies -- Key Lime, Peanut Butter, Bourbon and others.

I had always wanted to try The Ketch, being a seafood fan, so I finally stopped in with my best friend. It happened to be their 20th anniversary. I told our very nice waitress, "That's perfect--I wanted to wait exactly 20 years to see if this place would make it before giving it a try!" Anyway, the food was fantastic. I ordered the fried banana peppers as an app and the Pelican's Platter for dinner. Deliciously perfect shrimp, a sublime crab cake, and white fish that was excellent. My friend ordered the stuffed shrimp (I think that's what it was) and it was even better than mine! Yes, Yes, Yes, their seafood is on POINT! The atmosphere is quaint and the place was SPOTLESS. I don't believe a restaurant has to have the trendiest decor to be great. If the theme is on point and it's kept clean and well-maintained out of a respect for the experience of the diner, then bravo! The Ketch clearly is passionate about their food and the experience, and I love that. Here's to another 20 years!
