My favorite Indian restaurant in Lexington. I recommend the chicken tikka masala over naan with a smooth mango lassi to wash it down. And the lunch buffet is very affordable.

Tandoor is by far our favorite Indian restaurant in Lexington. Friendly staff that's always on the ball. Their naan is the best and their lamb saag ( I get heat # 3 ) is to die for.

My partner and I frequent Tandoor rather often - on average, about twice a month. I have to admit, the food may not be at its peak every time we were there, but it remains one of our favourite restaurants in our neighborhood. Did I mention that we go there a lot? : ) After all, even restaurants may get a hiccup or two. The atmosphere may not be posh however, the good food makes up the difference with much to spare. The servers are very polite. One or two of them may be somewhat awkward (a negligible observation). You know you just walked into a good Indian restaurant when you see tables of ethic South Asians eating there! Overall, Tandoor is a culinary gem in Lexington. I would recommend the following dishes: Vegetable Masala, Chicken Korma, and Chicken Karahi.

By far my favorite Indian restaurant EVER. I love the food, and I absolutely love the service. It's a little on the more expensive side, but definitely NOT 3 $ signs! I pay usually about $13/meal. And it's completely worth it. Delicous. I love love love their naan and mango chutney. My favorite meal there is the Bhuna chicken...Yum. Go!!!

Absolutely the best in town, and we KNOW Indian food. The atmosphere is so-so, but the food is heavenly. Take out is efficient also. Prices are about average. Don't be afraid of Indian Food - it can be spiced to your liking! If you're new to Indian food, ask for things spiced mildly and enjoy the wonderfulness. Our Kids love it. We take it spicy on some dishes and medium on others. If you want to go nuts, ask for "Indian Spicy" and get ready to sweat. It's right next to a sports bar and there are always smokers hanging out there, and they're sometimes intoxicated. It's well lit though.

The best Indian food in Lexington. We have eaten at each of the places around town. I also work with two Indian friends and both recommend Tandoor as THE place to go for Indian food in Lexington. Actually, I would say that it is the best Indian food within hundreds of miles. The only better than I can recall was in NY city. Even a place that claimed to be the best in London, England (yes, I have to qualify it as in England since there is a London, Kentucky) was no match for our very own Tandoor. They do have a very generous buffet every day of the week, but do take the chance to have dinner there at least once. The buffet is all prepared to be less spicy and appeal to a variety of pallets. The menu offers a finer selection of carefully spiced dishes that will give you a better sampling of what this fine restaurant has to offer. The wait staff is very friendly and courteous. There is plenty of seating with booths and tables. They also offer a full bar, wine and beer.

This is the best Indian food in Lexington. Everything is done well: the free chutneys you get when you sit down, to the dal soup, the nan and the main dishes. Also, if you have room, the rice pudding is very good. If there are 2 of you, I recommend the Dinner for Two - a ton of food for $35.

My husband and I had some errands to run yesterday afternoon in this area of town and were in need of a quick lunch. I wanted to step away from the typical fast food places, and remembered noting an Indian restaurant nearby. Indian restaurants usually have a buffet -- quick lunch! A search through my Yelp bookmarks brought up Tandoor, just around the corner from our destination. We drove over to see if they had a lunch buffet -- sure enough, there was a sign in front advertising a "Large Indian Lunch Buffet." Sweet! We walked into a nice, quiet restaurant with smiling faces and were immediately led to a booth near the back. Only a few other people were there enjoying the buffet. We inquired about the price of the buffet ($9 per person) and decided to go for it. There were two buffet tables, one with several meal choices (a couple variations of rice, a couple meat entrees, and two veggie entrees), another filled with sauces and a couple salads. Off to the side was another table with a bowl of rice pudding over ice for dessert. A large buffet? Not really. I was a bit disappointed by the small-ish buffet and the limited options. However, they DID have the foods that my husband and I love. I scooped up plenty of naan, rice, chana masala, and a bit of the veggie eggplant entree. Soooo good! My husband enjoyed his chicken masala, as well. We each got about two plates' worth of food and ate until we were so stuffed that it was difficult to move. Oy! To top it off, I tried some of the Chai tea that comes free with the buffet -- sooo good. Loved the Chai. The Tandoor staff was very friendly and attentive; they were constantly filling our glasses of water and clearing our table of used plates. At one point, they even brought over a basket of fresh naan after we noticed it was nearly out at the buffet table. Awesome! Very pleasant experience: four and a half stars if I could. Not perfect but very delicious!

Very friendly staff, and very tasty food. I got my food to go as I was in a hurry. The shrimp pakoras were a nice start, but nothing over the top. The seafood vindaloo and kulcha naan were awesome. The vindaloo was flavorful, and spicy. (Surprisingly, the Indian hot was not super hot). The naan was soft, chewy, and tasty.

Good food & great service Me & my family went to have lunch Buffett over the weekend & we loved the way food tasted & we got a great service with smile too... Keep up the good work...

Very good! I came here for dinner, got the palak paneer, hot (not indian hot) and it was pretty spicy, and I can usually handle some decently spicy food. Huge portions, and for a decent price also.

I was so excited to try this place after reading everyone's reviews. My husband and I decided to do a theme date (and we don't get dates very often with two little ones). We planned dinner here and then were going to see Slumdog Millionaire (which was GREAT). We started with a mango lassi to drink and samosas for appetizers. The lassi was very good. It tasted of mango and was very smooth and sweet with just a tiny bit of tang. The samosa was alright. My husband enjoyed it more than I did but I usually prefer the meatless so that might have been the problem. I ordered the Tandoori Kahari Chicken Saag because I thought the spices and spinach sounded good. My husband ordered the Chicken Bhuna. He liked his but not enough to go back to Tandoor. Mine was so gross it was inedible. Even my husband couldn't eat it. and he hates for anything to go to waste. He is a pretty adventurous eater but thought the meat tasted very strange. The service was pretty below average as well. Once we were served our entrees, our server disappeared until we flagged him down for the check. Needless to say, we won't be back. If you want delicious Indian food and are ever in SW Virginia, try Taaza in Roanoke, Virginia. I am disappointed we might not find anything similar here in Lexington.

I have an Indian heritage and what better than to hear a review from an individual that knows his food? Food is definitely great, but I have to say it is also pricey as well. Indian food is not like any other food out there and takes a lot of ingredients and labor to prepare, which is why it can be so pricey. With the choices of preparing food: Hot, Mild, and Spicy; this is the place to get good quality Indian food.

We just had a nice dinner there tonight. I thought they had very attentive and accomodating staff. They serve complimentary papadum (?) and chutney for appetizer. Their chicken tikka masala was very tasty. The lamb curry was also good. A little pricey but each dish was enough for two people. A side order of naan completes the meal.

Solid Indian food and great service! Chicken Tikka Masala had great flavor, as did the Samosas. Mango Lassi was a great drink to top it off with. Oh yes, the garlic Naan was excellent!

Yum!. This is the best Indian restaurant in Lexington! The food is amazing and the prices are definitely lower than other places. The only thing they are lacking in is service. Servers are awkward and take forever to get things for you. But still, the food more than makes up for it! Everything on the menu is so gosh darn good!

  • M S.

The food is very nice, a typical North Indian menu but the flavours of the food are just subtly different and its delightful. I got the lamb saag and the lamb korma. I think the saag had cardamom in it! How inspired. Seriously, just a little something extra and it was delicious. The korma was very flavourful as well. And the service was amazing. Often at Indian restaurants I feel like the staff are annoyed that I am at this restaurant they established. But our server was so genuinely polite and sweet even though we were taking a little too long. A great experience overall.

Best Indian restaurant in Lexington or anywhere for that matter that I have been. They have a lunch buffet 7 days a week now even on Monday! The staff and the owners here are all very nice. I could eat here almost everyday. This place has given me a whole new appreciation for foreign and new foods to try!

I've been to three Indian restaurants in the Lexington area and this is my least favorite. The sign outside the restaurant says fine dining but maybe they mean the decor. It is a rather large restaurant and the buffet spread is generous with several rows of typical Indian dishes. However, the flavors were muted as though their spices weren't fresh. The food looked good but wasn't particularly flavorful which left me full but not satisfied. I guess I'll have to turn to my top two Indian restaurants for my Indian food cravings.

This place was MUCH better than anticipated. Based on the photos of food and interior, I expected average, quick, and mediocre atmosphere. Instead, it was nice on the inside with a slightly upscale feel. The food was very tasty and was presented well. The timing of the dining experience was more in line with a slower, higher end style restaurant. The paneer pakora is excellent.

Don't think twice before stopping by here for lunch or dinner, the food is absolutely delicious, it's consistent, the service is excellent, and I'm very picky when it comes to restaurants. Good job guys, you've got a new regular!

This restaurant is a MUST if you love Indian food! We frequent here about once a week and the staff know us - they've been awesome and super friendly since our first visit. I'm a vegetarian and have tried many of their dishes - vegetable vindaloo, vegetable Tikka masala, paneer Tikka masala, Chana masala, vegetable pakoras, garlic and regular naan, Mattar paneer, and so much more! Everything I've had has been wonderful, and if you're not sure what to try, I would recommend the vegetable or paneer Tikka masala, or if you eat meat, the chicken Tikka masala - you really can't go wrong with those dishes! My boyfriend is a meat eater and hasn't had a bad thing on the menu either (his favorite is the chicken Tikka masala). Don't worry about the spice level if you've never had Indian food - you can order it mild, medium, hot, or Indian hot. We also order mixed (alcoholic) drinks during our visits (which the awesome staff have memorized now, haha), and they do not disappoint! They are very potent and well worth the $5 or $6 they cost. We've also had their lunch buffet and I was pleasantly surprised that there were several vegetarian options alongside the meat dishes! They also offer free chai during the buffet, so that's a bonus! If only they had a groupon, I would totally give them 6 out of 5 stars!

Not a big fan of Indian food but this place really blows me out of the water. One of the only places I've been to where I have asked for mild and they actually got it right. The buffet is really worth the $12 you spend here. I've come to this place quite a few times now with my friend who is Indian and says it is the best in town. It's good to have opinion from someone who knows his culture very well and the food he likes and tell me this is the best so I'm happy that I could come to a place like this and actually try it and experience actual Indian food without needing lots and lots of milk. I'm not a very big fan of spicy food but like you said they made it mild for me and it was still amazing I could actually enjoy the food without wanting to for much die from the inside out. The staff here is very very polite always willing to answer your questions on anything about the food or anything in general. The atmosphere is very nice and pleasant you know not a lot of talking loud noises from TVs just a good quiet area where you can actually have a conversation with a friend if you want. I do like the inside how when you walk in the giant chandelier right there and just gorgeous. I probably visit this place at least once a week now because I can actually sit down and have a meal without any issues. Any other Indian restaurant will never compare to this place in Lexington. All fell yelpers need to check out this place and really experience the good food they have here.

I had always been worried about trying Indian food, but one day my boyfriend got us Lamb Rogan Josh for me to try from Tandoor. It has been one if my favorites ever since. The staff is always extremely nice when I walk in and pick up my orders. The naan is amazing. I think it is better than most i have tried at other places. It is softer and seems fresher. Tandoor is my go to place in Lexington for Indian food!

The price is a bit steep but where else can you get good food in Lexington? It is always a good buffet. I wish they had some food I ate there back in 2011. It was this spicy spaghetti stuff which they use to let us take out. If you are going to try this kind of food.... try this place!

Chicken Korma is always a go to. I prefer the buffet simply because you have more options plus endless naan. At dinner you have to keep ordering naan, which is sad. Drinks are pricey but service is great!

It is indeed a tough task to find authentic Indian cuisine in America. But the gap is most often bridged by incredible customer service and an ambiance befitting that. The biriyani was incredible. A nice stop for people visiting Smokey Mountains from Cincinnati. The owners were very helpful and accommodated our varied interests for spice. The quantity and quality metrics were on par with top restaurants in India.

My wife had the Lamb Korma and I had the Lamb Rogan Josh.... One word to describe both - Perfect!!!! The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff are attentive without smothering. Our privacy was respected as the staff always waited at a distance to be acknowledged prior to approaching our table. I absolutely love that! I recommend starting with the mango lassi, as I did and enjoying a combination of plain naan and the onion paneer naan breads.

I love Indian food and this place does not disappoint!!! It's all very flavorful, loved their chicken saag and chicken makhni! The naan is usually very hot and buttered well. The prices are a little on the high side (this coming from a budgeting college student) and the food is a little spicy but it is well worth every penny. Service is good and atmosphere is great!

I can only speak of their lunch buffet, which is amazing. It brings out all of the stops, for sure, and the selection rotates slightly, but I admit I'm a simpleton who can't get enough of their chicken tikka masala. It's so rich and creamy and comforting. The owners are delightful, and there have been times when they deliver fresh-out-of-the-oven naan right to your table.

On a recent business trip to Lexington, I stumbled across this restaurant through Yelp. It's a clean, nice restaurant (though in a strip mall). There was a private party the night I showed up, but I was taken care of as though I was the only customer. The Chicken Tikka Masala was incredible. I also ordered the Eggplant Bharta and was thrilled. Both dishes were flavorful (I ordered mild) and the ingredients were fresh and properly prepared. I had to take half of each back to my hotel, but they made for a wonderful lunch the next day. The service here is outstanding, the food is fantastic and it was easy to get to. I will be back, next time through Lexington.
