Yummy tilapia burrito. Salsa was excellent too. Nice spice to queso sauce on burritos.

I am so glad that there is another place for late night dining in downtown Lexington on the weekends!!! They are open for regular dining hours as well but I usually prefer to stop by for a bite after a night out! Late-night dining here is fuss free because it's usually not crowded and food comes in good portions. However, my dinner experience here on a Friday night was disappointing. Overall the service was very slow and we had to wait quite a while to receive our utensils after the entrees arrived at the table. It seemed like there were only two servers taking care of the whole place on a busy night. Food has always been decent but the texture of some of items were a little off. I do wish their tacos were slightly smaller in size (similar to other good places in town) so I could order a few different types of tacos at a time. One thing to remember is they don't have anything other than beer for alcohol options... So.. that means all the cocktails are beer-based! Worth a try!

A bit of authentic Mexican food in downtown Lexington. I usually come alone, but it looks like a small group of friends (4 to8) would be accommodated best. Unfortunately there's no tequila or other liquor- a variety of non alcoholic beverages & a selection of beers( I like DOS EQUIS amber)

After walking around downtown trying to find a place to eat that didn't have a 45-90 minute way, my wife and I ended up here. One word best describes our visit: salty. Our chips and salsa: salty. My carne asada burrito (which had more beans and rice in it than meat) was salty. My wife's chicken chimichanga - salty. We are probably Mexican food snobs since we are used to homemade and authentic West Coast Mexican food, but this was not even close to average Mexican I can find anywhere on Los Angeles. Won't be back.

I've heard good things about this place, so we made a point to try it out. It was decent Mexican food. Not great. If I lived downtown, maybe I would come here more, but there are much better options around Lexington that don't require paying for parking or getting lucky on street parking.

Simply the best Mexican food I've had outside of Mexico, NYC, San Diego or New Mexico. Hand pressed tortillas. Homemade chorizo. Amazing horchata and Jamaica. We live in Cincinnati, but we'll be back. Dear owners- open a branch in Cinci and you'll never run out of customers.

Out of almost all of the beers on the menu, guacamole was crap, salsa tasted jarred. After the first ten minutes we opted not to order and left.

I've tried most all the Mexican in Lexington, and as someone who grew up eating west coast Mexican, it's been mostly a disappointment. There has been good food here or there, and definitely standard fare, but nothing stood out (or stayed in business for more than 6 months) quite as well as Habanero Loko has. Lets start by talking about the service - it's not the best. It's not bad, by any means, but you're not going to get personalized table service here. Refills, chips, and your food, and probably some empty plates removed. Good enough for me. The food, however, is a different beast. Their chips are generally hot and crispy, and some of the best I've had here. The salsa tastes fresh, has kind of a spicy cilantro edge to it. The meats are fantastically spiced and taste like they've had more than a few minutes and packaged spices invested in them. The cochinita pibil is really stand-out, and has served to drive me and my friends back to try it in different dishes. My current favorite is the empanada. Overall, this has quickly become my favorite Mexican in Lexington. I hope it stays around long enough to convince everyone else, too.

I ate here for lunch today, and it was a mixed experience. On the positive side, the food was tasty and authentic. The buffet was small, but it had good tacos and empanadas and they had very good (obviously homemade) tamales still in the corn husk. On the downside, service was marginal at best, they had one man working the place and if they had more than one table of guests at a time he seemed overwhelmed. Also, the Chicken Adobo on the buffet had a serious problem, when I cut into it, the chicken meat was bright pink, as in seriously undercooked. I had some significant food safety questions about this dish. With that in mind, as long as you avoid the chicken adobo on the buffet, it's not that bad, but you might have to wait for service.

I've loved their food ever since I had it off the food truck in front of West Sixth. The tacos are amazing. Be bold and try the cow's cheek taco. It's delicious.

Great prices and food; portions are large! Highly recommend the smothered burrito. Although I haven't gone, it is open late hours and would be perfect after bars close. Atmosphere is ok and staff is fine.

I went once a couple of months after they opened. The service was fine, but I was the only customer inside ( a party was seated at a sidewalk table as well). I ordered a tostada. When it arrived it was mostly shredded iceberg lettuce. Had some sort of white sauce squirted over it (maybe queso, maybe mayonnaise), and was topped with what my taste buds instantly recognized as Kraft grated Parmesan, the kind that comes in the big green can. I ate as much as I could, to be polite, then paid my tab and left. Yuck.

I rarely give five stars, but this is certainly as good as it goods in terms of authentic Mexican food. Americans needs to realize that restaurants aren't meant to coddle you. Servers are there to take your order, bring you your food, and assist you in paying for it. The people in this country [for some reason] expect people in food service to baby them and wait on them hand-and-foot. That's ridiculous. I come here by myself from time to time, to have a simple, quiet, delicious Mexican meal. The salsa is perfection, since it actually uses cilantro unlike all these other "Mexican" restaurants around, whose salsa might as well just be tomatoes and salt. The chips are homemade, so the nachos that come with your meal are a fantastic meal on their own. Now the menu: I watched a group of girls walk in and complain that they "had like nothing on the menu." I'm convinced they can't read, because there are about 10 different meats to choose from, to be used in a good variety of dishes. I love the tacos with pork, because it's simple, filling, and flavorful. Today, I ordered the burritos locos with steak. It was as big as my face, and only $9. It was excellently seasoned, and the burrito was JAM-PACKED with steak, rice, beans, and cheese. Absolutely delicious, and I was upset that I couldn't finish it all because it was so good. The service has always been great, warm, and exactly as needed. I wouldn't recommend going for the buffet though.. Like seriously, who eats Mexican food at a buffet? You'll be doing yourself a great favor by ordering off the menu, because I've never ONCE had a meal that was less than perfect.

My quest to find great Mexican food in Lexington finally brought me here, initially because they are open so very late on the weekends. Their menu isn't huge, but they do an amazing job with the food. It's as authentic as I've found here. The empanadas alone are worth a trip. The outside looks better than the inside, which is a little dilapidated. The prices are quite fair, considering the quality of the ingredients. The service is just ok, but I've only been there late at night when it wasn't packed. The food is 5 stars, the ambiance is a 2, thus my rating of 4 stars.

Good food: fresh chips, salsa (not too spicy), and corn tortilla, inexpensive and delicious tacos, good size salad with well seasoned diced chicken, and perhaps one the best guacamole in town (albeit a bit pricey at $5.99). People working there are nice but the service is negligent and odd, for lack of a better word; there were only one other table on a weekday after 8pm when we visited. The lady who served us was warm and welcoming but walking around for at least 10 minutes without taking our order. What is odd is she offered us, at different times, "extras" during the course of our dinner, but seemed completely forgot about them soon after she walked away. We decided not to bother after the first reminder, simply finished our meals and left.

A locally owned authentic mexican restaurant that has guacamole that is to-die-for. Must try this place - and must ask for the jalapeno salsa.

O.K., so I went here on a Saturday night (about 6:30 p.m.) based on the reviews and the photos here. Seriously, I thought I had gone to the wrong place. We walked in and it was dark, the bar area was dead, and there were people at 2 other tables and one waitress who said she was also the owner. There was no other employees in the building, even to cook, so I assume she was doing the cooking too. She seemed a little overwhelmed. We decided to just have chips and salsa, (because we would have to wait forever for food with just one employee) which were just average and some cheese dip, which was bland and thin and watery. Ick. Maybe we just went there on a bad night. I will give it one more chance and review it again, but based on what we saw and had last night, It's a no-no.

The staff was very informative and attentive. Right off the bat, I could tell they really cared about their customers. The food was very delicious too. I got the sampler platter and I loved every bite. The tortilla chips were also very impressive... they were thick and could easily hold the hearty salsa, but almost melted in your mouth. I've never seen a tortilla chip do that, and it was awesome.

You will probably first recognize El Habanero Loko as a food truck that roams around town to complete your late night cravings (which was my first experience) but there is also a wonderful Brick and Mortar. I finally made my way over to the little location on the corner of Vine and Limestone and I'm so glad that I did. The inside is small and intimate. The owner, Donny was friendly and warm upon my arrival. The friends I ate with had already ordered chips and guac...both were fresh and tasty! I love, love, love fresh made salsa and El Habanero has it down! I asked for a recommendation of what the best meat was and the best way to get it...Donny informed me the pork and quesadilla style. He did not steer me wrong. By far the best quesadilla I have had in a really long time! There is a pineapple salsa of some sort on it and it is a great added flavor! Pricing is great. Around $7-8 for my fresh quesadilla. Will be back for me soon!!

We have been enjoying this place and keep going... The Horchata is Yummy! Chips, Tortillas are very fresh. Salsa ok. But we decided to go for the Meat Lover platter on the new menu last night and was expecting the meat mentioned in the menu... We got chicken, some beef, some shrimp, a few pieces of Chorizo no pork but we got huge chunks of Hot Dogs!!! Heck no! It was very Disappointing!!! Never again. When we brought it to their attention they acted like they don't know what happen. Really!!! Gave us nasty box made flan to appease us. No Way!!! They are Loco!!! We might give them one more chance but we won't order that!

Our server convinced me to try the cow cheek tacos, and I'm glad I did. The meat was delicious, tender and well seasoned. I need to go back to try more of their menu!

Killer tacos and gorditas!.. Friendly staff/owners that were appreciative of our patronage fifteen minutes till close. The jalapeño and habanero sauces are deliciously loko as the name suggests.. Downtown. Open late. No excuses.

I went at lunch time (around 2pm)yesterday. The place was kinda dark, but clean. I was greeted when I entered into the resturant. The buffet area hidden in a far corner. I went over to check out the food choices from the buffet( I wanted to see before I sat down) but I was disappointed that it was almost empty and what food was in their containers was dry. The what I believe was the manager waited on me and was very friendly. Saw a server come in(who was standing outside the front of the resturant smoking a cigerate) and back in again and out agian finally, I turned and she was sweeping the floors. She recieved a phone call and while on the phone she was crying, went outside and then back in. I received my cup of soup "CHicken, rice, cilantro and tortillas chips mixed in it and chip & salsa. The soup was very delicious and I think I would or order more for it was a cold day out. I also ordered the beef Gorditas, this was a good tasting, as well as I got the chicken and fruit salsa taco. I really enjoyed this taco and had a ice tea. The soup is free with meals, my Gorditas was $3 for 1, the taco $3 for 1, everything ranged from $3 to $30 and the buffet was $9. It was strange that in the middle of the lunch rush hr its not busy. I probly would go back.

What began as a food truck, and then a second food truck, is now a brick and mortar shop, replete with the same amazing goodness of the trucks, while expanding generously the menu. This is unlike any other mexicana I've had in Lexington, and the salsas and sauces are particularly out of this mundo. Now if they'll only get the cerveza license.

Salsa, amazing...habanero salsa is fresh and HOT and the tacos are the best I have ever had.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
