Every time I've gone, they've been out of at least one food item my party was attempting to order. Most recently, staff acted dismissive and rude at one of my questions. That was the final straw, and I unfortunately won't be coming back.

There is absolutley NO excuse to go anywhere else for fish in Lexington. The Tilapia is grown sustainably in Lexington. The fish of the day keeps the Tilapia from becoming boring by offering a alternative. You can get your fish grilled, beer battered, or corn meal fried (my favorite). These are served in reasonably sized portions not the gigantic lard producing versions. You get full but not uncomfortable. They are attached to West Sixth Brewing and will bring your food over to you in the Brewery!!!!! There are 3 whole fish dishes that can be shared at a table. I have not tried these yet but they look fantastic. There are also daily specials, of which I am a huge fan and think that all eateries should vary their menus this way.

As many times as I've been to West 6th, I'd never eaten at Smithtown (although I'm a great fan of Ouita). I selected the fish and chips, a basket of three huge pieces of cod (catfish is everywhere). The fish was delicate and the coating crisp and delicious. The fries, although not the best, were brown and crisp. Creamy cole slaw. Two divine little hush puppies. (Ahhh, Wiesenberger cornmeal!) Two dipping sauces, one a wonderful tarter sauce, the other a fresh lemon yogurt. I could only manage one piece of fish, so I took the other two home. My daughter had the oysters,, which she devoured heartily, with a terrific spicy remoulade sauce. We washed everything down with a Cocoa Porter, one of my favorites at the brewery. My tummy went home full and satisfied.

Great local spot for lunch. The food is fresh and the service is great. I have been twice and had the fish and chips both times. The fries are real potatoes and not the bland square frozen fries like some places. I also got a bite of my honey's huge catfish dinner. The atmosphere is a neat reuse of an old bakery and seating is in the West Sixth brewery.

Oyster po boy was incredible. They did not skimp on the oysters at all, they were large, crunchy and plump. Best po boy ever. They did surprisingly have a vegan crab cake and quinoa burger which my boyfriend said was pretty good.

Pretty Darn tasty. The seafood and burgers are really good bar food. I haven't tried the healthier fare, but everything I've had pairs great with a West Sixth draft.

Four of us had lunch today, and being our first time, we had high expectations. We were STUNNED at the small portions of Amberjack that we were served. When paying $17 for a fish basket, 4-5 ounces of fish is ridiculous! Even the cod had so much batter that the real amount of fish was tiny. There is more fish in a Long John Silver's basket than here! All 4 of us felt cheated by the price vs portion size. The only reason that this place gets two stars is because the Amberjack tasted good.

If you're reading this review it probably means you haven't been here yet. Why not? I can't think of many other restaurants I've been to tut can compete when it comes to fish. My favorite is the fish and chips, it's beer battered with west 6th beer and delicious. Maybe a little more crispy than why I'm used to, but that makes it just that much better. Regrettably I haven't had the tilapia they raise in the back. I have gone with other people who have ordered the tilapia and they refused to share, so that says something. The best part is they share the location with a brewery. Go check it out, they won't disappoint.

The shrimp and grits were SO good! They came with a side of greens to give you the illusion that you might be eating something healthy. I also ordered a side of the barley salad to try it out. It was tasty, but I probably won't get it again. My husband got the grilled catfish on a bed of salad (yes, he is way more disciplined than I am) and he enjoyed that as well. I was surprised to see so many vegan options available here. If that is your thing (or you are vegan and trying to appease a bunch of people who want seafood), you can do okay here. And at 2:30 pm on a Sunday, the place was pretty empty. I will definitely be back!

I had a friend in town and decided it was time to try the fish I had been hearing about. I had the Tilapia and it was a greasy mess, just awful and very messy to each because the fish is served whole. I would suggest to them that filets would be a better choice. We also had the fried green tomatoes that were also heavy with grease and had to much heavy coating. On the other hand the catfish was good and not greasy at all.

Holy bajeezus! Catfish, cheese grits and greens are deeeelicious. Even better combine it with beer from West 6th and you have the perfect evening and just what I wanted visiting my home state from Denver.

Stopped by the West Sixth scene and had a late lunch at Smithtown Seafood. We started with the Bay Scallop Taco. The tortilla was too small, the scallops weren't seared, and the taco was dry and bland with a scant amount of other ingredients. I would NOT order this item again. In contrast, the Buffalo Catfish sandwich was the best fish sandwich I've ever eaten! Loved the unique combination of catfish, buffalo sauce, blue cheese slaw, and pickles. Magnifique!

I was very impressed with this place. Normally, when a place has tons of hype, I find a way to bring them down a notch, but I could not find a major flaw here. The food was amazing. I had to get the classic Fish and Chips. I went to school in Maine for 3 years, but this competes with all he Fish and Chips and I had there by the Atlantic Ocean. The fish was fried so well (caution: don't come if trying to be healthy...or order something different at least). The fries were simply amazing, but the real star were the hushpuppies. I worked at Long John Silvers for a year...I used to be so sick of Hushpuppies, but this place brought back the love for these things. They were solid, thick, and tasty. The wait time wasn't too bad, and the price is what you would expect for seafood. I paid about $14-$16 after tip, so its not too bad. The fact that this place is attached to West Sixth is just fantastic. Come here, drink beer, eat fish, and be happy.

This could be a dangerous place! Lots of tasty seafood and flavors going on, with a nice selection of brew! Parking is on the street so go early and enjoy the stout!

Smithtown is among the most innovative restaurants in town. Their tilapia and greens come from FoodChain, an aquaponic non-profit in the same building. You order at a counter and have it brought to your table at West Sixth Brewing. The food is always delicious and the prices are very reasonable. It is run by the best chef in town, situated in one of the most creative spaces in town (the Bread Box), and supports other local businesses.

Well tonight was our first time here. It is a very pleasant atmosphere, open and airy. I like how the seafood shop and west 6th brewing share an area. You order your food at seafood shop counter, pay then find a seat in the brewery . You get a number stick to put on table and food is brought to you. As for the food, my wife got fish and chips and I had the Snapper platter. My Snapper was very good as I'm sure it was flown in. Her fish was ok. The fries were too cooked really and the slaw was kind of bland. All were served in very inexpensive paper style tray. Hush puppies too done which happens a lot in Lexington I must say. Her fish was too cooked at least the batter was overdone. Take off the batter and the fish wasn't bad. I have to say it was pricey. $12.99 for hers which did have two pieces of fish and mine $18.99. one piece .In Lexington I can find comparable seafood served on dinnerware and at good price. I'm not saying it was terrible,it wasn't but it was I think average. The atmosphere was nice and it is worth a try. The other menu items seemed nice. If you wanted alcohol you bought it at the brewery. Give it a shot but needs some work.

Holy schmoly. The absolute hands down best shrimp and grits ever. I stuffed my face until I couldn't fit in another bite. Ridiculous. Paired with a West 6th Cola (or beer, if you prefer) from next door--it can't be beat. I wish my pants were bigger.... But worth every second of self inflicted discomfort. Go. Eat. Enjoy. Oh, and eat it there. You're welcome.

This place has a very shaky track record with me. They make good soups, and currently the Wellington burger and fries onion rings are good. They kept messing up all other burger orders, and they either don't cook whole shrimp for their "shrimp cocktails", or they deep fry all other fish/seafood, since they seem incapable of actually cooking them any other way. They used to have a good mussel dish with actual butter beer sauce until hey seemingly forgot what is good on she'll fish and added enough hot sauce to make an Indian intimidated, thereby completely removing the taste of the meal. Be very careful if you have to order here.

Positives: I've had several items from here but the stand outs are the deep fried buffalo dog and most importantly- the fish & chips. The fish is so fresh and the batter is perfect, it's not too overpowering so you are still able to enjoy the natural clean fish flavor. Mayo based coleslaw is sooo creamy! The tarter sauce I believe is made in house and my husband swears by it. It's not too pickle-y. Service was friendly enough, gave a few suggestions even though it was right at 9pm and you could tell the staff was wore out and ready to head home. Negatives: Fries are a bit soggy, coleslaw could use a dash of salt. The Thai Nam sauce isn't as spicy as I would have liked and is very thin so it does really stick on much. The Vibe: Overall I haven't had enough to say everything is awesome or that it's the best fish place but I will say that they source locally which I love, from ice cream and cookies to fish and produce. They are connected to West Sixth Brewery which is awesome, and they use some of the beer in their food. Food is fresh and flavorful but not too crazy. Really enjoyed.

My friend and I were have a couple of beers at the West Sixth Brewing and was pretty hungry and wanted to get lunch. Smithtown Seafood is Lexington's newest farm-to-table restaurant, located in the Bread Box on West Sixth Street. So convenient that they are connected/next to the West Sixth Brewing. They make everything on the menu from scratch, with locally raised ingredients. It's that simple- you walk up and they take your order, give you a number and they bring you the food. I really liked their menu selection. At the time we came, they were also selling brunch. Make sure to look out for daily specials. They have fish sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, fresh fish (fresh cod filet, U.S. Freshwater catfish filet, Oyster, Canaveral sprimp and Bay Scallops), Fish Baskets, tilapia specials, happy hour menu (from tacos to catfish nuggets, etc) kids menu, etc. I ended up getting the Fried Bay Scallops (1/4 lb for $7.95) . You can choose different sauces- I got the Ginger-Soy. As my side item hand cut french fries for $3.00. The staff was super friendly and very patient since I was having a hard time choosing my meal. Everything looked good! Went back to the bar and waited less than 15 minutes and the food was already out. WOW! Loved the Ginger-Soy with my Scallops. Great taste (and also fresh) and fries were hot with great flavor (did not need to put salt on my fries-seasoned). I would definately come back. Their pricing is very reasonable and seafood fresh.

I am not a big fan of fried foods. But Smithtown does a great job of providing fresh tasty seafood. It shares space with the West 6th Brewery. The service is fast, friendly, and fresh.

As a recent transplant to Kentucky from California, one of the things I miss about the Golden State is the availability of fresh seafood. Smithtown Seafood may be small, may feel like an afterthought added onto West Sixth Brewing, and the menu may feel limited, but there is more here than meets the eye. Smithtown Seafood is a Ouita Michel restaurant, which means that the menu contains local ingredients and quality is paramount. You can get a basket of very tasty fish & chips (no mushy peas), or you can get a fresh salad (love the Singapore salad) and roasted fish (not limited to Tilapia). Chef Michel utilizes a fish monger in order to get fish that is freshly-caught and seasonal...I recently had Pompano from Florida that was quite delicious. There are also a variety of specials - the scallop tacos were fabulous. The first time I ate here, I thought it was a lot of work to figure out where to sit, what to get, how to order, what are the specials...it took a bit of time to read everything - in different locations - after navigating through the Brewery next door for a table. My biggest tip for dining at Smithtown Seafood is this: BE PREPARED. Sign up to receive their emails so you know all about the specials and the fresh fish available, as well as any upcoming special dinners. Also, have a look at the menu online before you go...don't end up with a basket of fried fish, french fries and hushpuppies unless that's what you want. There are very tasty, healthy, alternatives.

Great find! Order at the counter- we got the Codder Sandwich, a great basic fried fish with L,T and tarter/mayo & the Buffalo Catfish which came topped with slaw and had just the right kick- then you sit anywhere in the Sixth Street brewery and they deliver it to you. Everyone that worked there was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. Fish sandwich with a great tap beer- yes please!

We were in town visiting relatives and my husband my was craving some good seafood. He spotted this on the web and decided to we would give it a try. When we arrived we were very confused of where to place your order so once we got that figured out, we were quickly pointed out that you place your food order in one area of the restaurant to only be directed to a completely different area to place your drink order. It could have been handled a little differently or a hostess of some sort to greet and/or direct you for those who are new to the restaurant. With that being said, we placed our order for our food and then proceeded to go to the other side to place our drink order. This is where the whole experience begins to unveil the problems. We ordered water for our family only to be served lukewarm water with NO ICE!!! What restaraunt does not offer ice to their guests? My husband has to go back to the other side of the restaraunt to ask for ice. To our surprise, they have ice but are unable to provide a simple glass of ice water??!! My husband was disappointed in his catfish sandwich our sons were (including myself) were very disappointed in our food. It was greasy and not seasoned well st all! It's pretty bad when my husband states that he has had seafood better at our local grocer than here along with the prices they charge for simple food. I would not recommend this restaurant even if you were to simply go in for a evening out for s drink. Never again!!!'

There's not much to this place. It is just a small attachment to West 6th Brewing Co. and you actually go there to sit and order anything you want to drink. After a bit, someone will bring your food to your table according to your number. The person who brought out our food was very happy and took care of us. I ordered the fish and chips basket, which was fairly excellent. The fish was very crispy and soft on the inside. The hush puppies and fries were also better than you might usually get at some run-of-the-mill restaurant. For the price, ease of ordering and quality of food it is a good place to eat if you are looking for something simple and relaxing. I'm not a big fan of West 6th, so that might be the only downside that I see to this place. I'm sure I will return sometime.

I had the sea bass with fries and beer slaw. My wife had fried catfish with the same sides. Fish was cooked to perfection. The dipping sauces are paired well with fish. You have to eat inside the West Sixth Brewery. Not a problem for me. That was the point of the trip. The fish was an added surprise. A little pricey for beer food but worth it. We will eat here again for sure.

  • Courtney D.

Slow service. Took more than 30 minutes to get fried scallops and a salad so don't go for lunch. Must be why it was practically empty. The taste & quality of the food was good but a little pricey for eating out of paper bowls.

Very nicely prepared and truly FRESH! Lovin' the vibe and cool staff. I feed my family of 4 with a To Go order, and the price stung a bit. But-admittedly we got several extras and dessert. It was worth it. So..Welcome to the neighborhood

Two words: Beer Slaw! Wonderful symbiotic relationship with West Sixth Brewing. Love the entire concept. I visit EVERY TIME I'm in Lexington.

I grew up in south Florida and I know good fresh fish. That said, eating here you'd never believe you're not eating fish caught behind the building. They do a wonderful job getting the freshest fish to our land locked state. Since it's inside of West Sixth brewery the smell can be a little pungent. That's my only gripe.

  • Olwen C.

Food was very tasty, but small portions and too pricy. The staff was very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. I would go back, but not often. They were also sold out of many of the menu options.

  • Pokey B.

I ate there today. You walk up to the counter, place and pay for your order. They give you a number to display. You then walk right into West 6th Brewing (it's attached with no door), go to the bar and order your beer, then take a seat and display your number. You pay there or run a bar tab. I ordered the scallops, fried oysters, and fried shrimp. That's the beauty of this place. You can order one of their full meals or create your own from the menu. Everything was very good, but the oysters and scallops were amazing. The ginger soy sauce is delish. They have a number of homemade sauces. Good prices and fast service. The home brews are wonderful from West 6th Brewing as well. The Amber and Homestreet Hefeweizen are fantastic. I purchased a six pack of the Amber to go for 10 bucks and a $2 pint glass. They have growlers and mini growlers to go as well. If you are in town...and you like home brewed beer and fried seafood....you must, absolutely must visit this place!

The first time that I visited here, I was on a cheat day and ordered fried shrimp and fish platter. Did I mention that it was a cheat day? Lots of fried batter may be appealing to some, but I am having a heart attack just recounting it. The next few visits, just like the first, the person taking my order seemed very impatient and offered no suggestions after I asked The last time that I went, I ordered the fish tacos and they were the absolute opposite of fish tacos....just don't call something a taco without a tortilla or taco shell.

  • Kathryn K.

I would walk a mile for the fried oysters!!! Juicey on inside crispy and crunchy on outside . Perfectly cooked, because most people overcook them and then they get dry. Super Yum best in town

The beer cheese-Uhh! Fell so short of my expectations. Way too dry-crumbly to be "crackered" proper. Even after performing the balancing act with those globs, the lack of flavor I got from this serving was simply put, an upset and proved not worthy at putting my clean shirt at risk. Unfortunately the Flounder was sold out today. (Monday @ noon? -must have been a busy weekend.) Didn't want catfish or invertebrate filter feeders, so that left me with ordering the FishOTD. Which happened to be Trigger Fish. Okay, this could be an interesting first. Wow- at $18 for each Basket, We were very disappointed at what were were served. (Wow $81.57 for four!) Ordered "Batter Dipped" which ultimately was OVER battered and over browned- nearly burned. Fries were also over cooked and nearly burned. Perhaps this is how they intentionally do it because there were four of these "specials" at our table and all were over cooked the same degree. The Trigger fish- is very mild and quite okay for a fish flesh, but I couldn't keep my old aquarium buddies out of my mind during the munching. Appears neither Smithtown or I can win. Two of the four of us who ordered the beer slaw both found it to be uneatable. Over powering vinegar and perhaps a tinge of the Chinese kimchi fermentation going on? Perhaps this "kimchi" essence is intentional too?= Well, what the hell was I expecting anyway from Beer Slaw? The creamy slaw is "the ticket" side. Bottom line- maybe I come from a place that just doesn't understand what works in Kentucky? Sorry for the two stars Smithtown, but you proved most restaurants won't please every one, every time. We both lose on this one.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Smithtown Seafood even though I didn't know it existed until I walked through going to a workshop next door. Walking between it and West 6th feels like you've been transported to Portland or Seattle or somewhere much cooler with better seafood than Kentucky (I love KY, but the seafood here generally sucks unless you like frozen seafood). I had the special crab cake sliders and they were very tasty and totally adorable. The seafood pups were also delish; less like a hushpuppy with some seafood and more like a crab cake. I do NOT like beer so I didn't try any of the offerings at West 6th Brewing where you sit if you're going to eat your Smithtown Seafood right there, but everyone around me seemed to think that it paired well. My companion had a whole tilapia which was really flaky and fresh and he approved which is saying a lot as he's from Miami. The fries that came with my crab cake sliders were hand cut and freshly fried and thus as delicious as you'd expect. I look forward to going back to try the fried fish. I got a glimpse of some of the hydroponic greens and fish grown next door and their set up is really green and wonderful. I heartily approve. The prices are very good for the excellent food and attention to sourcing. I'll be back.

Reasonably priced and they deliver to your table in the attached brewery. There's not much to write because I just had one taco, but it was a phenomenal taco. Around $3 for a scallop taco and it came with a lot of scallopy goodness. It had just enough crunch from fresh veggies and the sauce was spicy with plenty of lime. I think lime is essential when having Mexican and seafood. And the scallops were small, cooked perfectly, and spread throughout the taco so you had scallop in every bite.

  • Rob R.

I dig Smithtown. The staff is super-friendly and the service is top-notch. Seating at West 6th can be a little tricky, but that's not enough to keep me away. My only gripe is that I wish they had raw oysters more regularly -- but again, this is a minor thing. The fish and chips is killer, the rolled oysters are delicious, and the prices are reasonable for the quality of food you get.

  • Kimberly B.

This is not a health food restaurant. If you need healthy you are in the wrong place. This is pub food with a seafood twist. What else would you expect from a restaurant next to a brewery? The fried food is deep fried. It's good and there are interesting sauces to garnish the fried fish, shrimp, oysters and hot dogs. During my visit they were out of shrimp. Really? Out of shrimp? We had a large group and the order was a bit screwed up but that all worked out in the end. Everyone left full of fried items and beer. HOWEVER, the disposition of the cashier is something that needs work. No, make that overhauled. Would it hurt you to smile and pretend like this is a job you enjoy having. I have never been waited on by a person so rude and ornery. I am not sure what happened before we got there but I assure you we didn't do it. Finally, while the team enjoyed the food and beer, I won't bring anyone back to smithtown. Really no one needs that kind of first impression. Sorry but we have lots of good restaurants in Lexington to get fried seafood and good beer.

Smithtown Seafood is quite unassuming. Nestled inside The Breadbox, this delightful culinary experience surprises me every time! Entrees I have devoured there are: rice paper fish tacos, lobster poutine, fish nachos, fried catfish. The presentation of each were crisp and precise. My favorite dish has to be the rice paper fish tacos. Fragile with nice crunch- the rice paper shell houses tender fish layered with beautiful vegetables. The sauce that accompanies the entree is a nice finishing touch bringing out each individual flavor note. Damn, just damn. My mouth was very happy. I gave Smithtown a visit for a comfortably late breakfast after a festive Saturday night. Ordering the lobster poutine for brunch was a great decision. I was grateful to discover for only $8, I received hefty portions of real lobster (Yes!) The delectable poutine topped on Smithtown's fries were just delicious. I can appreciate this entree because the price point in return for the portion received were the correct ratio in my book. Thank you Smithtown for not scrimpin' on my culinary pimpin'! Each menu item listed above pairs nicely with a pint from West 6th, which is another experience in itself. A visit to Smithtown is highly encouraged- affordable, fresh ingredients, nice customer service-are all waiting for you! Plan accordingly and take a tour of FoodChain. Research and learn more here: foodchainlex.org

I've only thought about eating Smithown while I'm at West 6th. Sometimes you just really need some fries while throwing back beers. Its a nice advantage to hanging with friends at the bar. Their seafood is good, typically fried. Not the best in the world but still pretty tasty when you're tipsy.

Terrible, greasy, over battered fish. We went for a group date at my insistence and all I could do was apologize all night for the most disappointing experience I've ever had. Service was unfriendly to boot. This was my first time and you might explain how to order vs ignoring us. I was so ready to give Smithtown a good review after my tour of Food Chain 4 months ago. When I saw how much they sell their aquaponic tilapia, I'm inclined to think their nonprofit is all about profit. Sorry I'm not paying $20-30 for a whole fish. I can't support this after seeing other sustainable nonprofits like "urban farming guys" in Kansas City, who really give back to the community. They are making a difference! Food chain and smithtown are more about making money. Sorry to be so critical but I was expecting so much more but that's what I get for being idealistic.

SO great!! Very friendly and knowledgeable service. Food goes perfectly with the associated brewery's beers. I had the Sahara salad, a wonderful mix of Meditteranean salads, with a huge chunk of griddled flounder on top. The flounder was wonderfully spiced. Highly recommend. Very pleasantly surprised to find great seafood in the middle of KY!

Although I'm Jewish, I've spent the last couple of years praying to Buddha, Jesus, Allah, and Ganesh for a place like this. I love Lexington's growing craft beer scene, but there was really no place in town to get (1) a well-crafted sandwich, (2) great fish that isn't super expensive, (3) the wonderful cooking from Chef Ouita Michels. Smithtown Seafood is all three things in one! Praise be to Buddha/Jesus/Allah/Ganesh/Ouita for answering my prayers! We had a beer battered cod basket. The fish was amazing, and so were the sides. My son had a hot dog on a bun baked by the Midway bakery crew. Everything is fresh and done with care. These are people who don't make shortcuts by buying crappy frozen food that arrived on a corporate conglomerate's 18-wheeler. This is food done locally. Care, thought, craft, and skill have gone into all of this operation. I love them. Prices are really reasonable for what you get. I was too full to finish my whole dinner, which doesn't actually happen that often. (Pretty sure I'm still growing, even at 38.) West Sixth is a terrific place to hang out (even with kids) and grab a beer. Now it's even better. Plus, you don't have to travel all the way to Midway for some good Ouita Michels cooking! I can't imagine someone not liking this place. It's what Lexington really needs. I'm so happy Smithtown chose to partner with FoodChain and the West Sixth crew. These folks are helping Lexington become even more awesome than it already is. I mean, honestly, if it's good enough for deities. . .

Menu keep growing and I keep liking the growth. Past couple time I have had two kinds of soup that I would for sure have again. Sea Food Chowder and Clam Chowder another time. People are also very friendly and welcoming. So tip well and be nice.

We love West Sixth, so we thought we'd try dinner at Smithtown when we went with a group to watch the UK football game. I love all of Chef Ouita Michel's restaurants, so I had high expectations, and I thought the concept of having the tilapia farmed on-site was interesting. This isn't fine dining. You get take out or, as most do, you walk through the brewery, order your food and get a number. If you take a table someplace on West Sixth's patio, they'll bring the food (in paper containers with plastic utensils). If you want ambiance, this isn't it. But if you want great food, you'll try it. My wife doesn't eat fish (but was kind enough to be a good sport for great company), but she said the cheeseburger (like everything at Michel's restaurants, made with 100% locally grown beef and other ingredients) was juicy and delicious. Because I'm an eastern KY guy at heart, I can't turn down cornbread rolled fried catfish (using Midway KY's own Weisenburger Mills' ridiculously good coating). It was a nice piece of fish, perfectly prepared (and it seems, surprisingly easy for people to mess up fried fish given how simple it should be to get it right). I chose the harissa mayo to go with it and it was creamy but added a nice bit of heat. But the star for me was the West Sixth Beer Slaw. It is such a perfect menu choice for a place with a lot of fried items. It is crunchy and very acidic and absolutely cuts through the fattiness of the fish. So delicious. There were so many other plates and preparations I wanted to try, so I know I'll be back many, many times.

Not very good. We ate at the restaurant today and I had the shrimp basket and my husband had the fish basket. The french fries were not edible. The hush puppies were terrible and neither of us were able to get me on the first bite. They were overcooked and raw at the same time! the breeding on both orders was heavy and greasy. we ad eaten at their sister Wallace Station store and it was really good so we were disappointed to get greasy inedible food. On a scale of 1 to 10 - it was a 2 - we bought a cookie on the way out and the cookie was very good .

Lot of love on Yelp for this addition to the hipster scene at West Sixth, but the food did not live up to the hype for me. I started with a cup of the Maritime Chowder. It was a lima bean and fish stew, and it was way too salty and a bit fishy. One bite and I was done with it. Two adventurous souls at my table also sampled and concurred. It was gross. Our entrees were a little better but not great. The beer battered catfish was ok but a bit greasy and too much breading. Also the fish inside was rubbery. I had the local beef cheeseburger with bacon and white cheddar. I am not a big fan of Kentucky beef, but this burger was good overall. The hand cut fries were tasty, but my portion was small. Will update this ranking if they improve on future visits. I was originally drawn to Smithtown based on pictures of fresh seafood (seared tuna) on their facebook page, but on my visit (Tuesday eve) there was not a fresh fish option. Dinner for 3 was $40, not including drinks.

Delicious seafood that you can enjoy while drinking at west sixth. I got a salad with the fried oysters that were amazing!! My husband got the seared flounder, which was great, with fries, slaw, and amazing hush puppies. The service was quick, food was good, and the fact you can enjoy while drinking a local beer can't be beat!!!

Jon (the chef) offered a "beer dinner" on Thursday when i called for reservations for Saturday (which West 6th does not offer), and was kind enough to offer the same dinner to our Beer Club when we visited on Saturday. The seafood (yellow fin tuna, mussels, scallops, shrinp) was exquisite, the steaks (ribeyes wrapped in bacon for the land lubbers) were perfect, the veggies were so fresh - and the cobbler?! Well, that was the perfect ending! We certainly enjoyed it and we would all highly recommend it!! Thanks Jon!!

Chef Michel delivers again!! In addition to tasty food this carryout restaurant features some of the Food Chain's locally grown hydroponic micro-greens and tilapia which is truly an innovative concept in itself! And to boot locally brewed West 6th beer is just a few steps away.

Today was my first visit to Smithtown Seafood. I had the flounder basket and with tip it was around $14. There were two small to med sized pieces and I had them in the rolled and fried. It was good, but parts of the dish were tough to rubbery. It is a bit pricey for lunch. I may go back and try something different, but it was nice for a change instead of fast food.

Slow slow slow!!! And very over-priced for what you get. $16 for fish should equal something larger than a playing card. VERY disappointed.

It's all the goodness other reviewers note, plus sustainably grown ingredients, many from Kentucky (and all greens from 100 feet away at FoodChain aquaponics.) The flavors are inventive, delicious, and reference the larger world of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Many dishes, without making any kind of deal of it, are wheat-free and appropriate for people with gluten sensitivities (not necessarily Celiac.) Excellent craft beer and housemade soda, fresh pastries, and other goodness abound. YESSSS! We have been waiting. This is the laid-back and assured youngest sibling in the Holly Hill Inn restaurant family. May the family thrive and be happy.

The only ones that wouldn't like this place are the food truck owners. Fish n chips may not be the healthiest option, but it's a natural with a West Sixth amber ale. Btw, parking will never be a problem (as one other reviewer feared) for those willing to walk one block from Coolavin Park.

Right next to West Sixth - there is an open door between the two - Smithtown is the perfect addition to the space. The fried fish, hush puppies, fries, slaw are all perfect. The beer batter cod was excellent. Order at Smithtown and sit in West Sixth and have a beer while you wait. Finally, a brewery has a built in food option. And the food is very, very good. Ouita does it right.

Smithtown Seafood is a fantastic new addition to the Lexington restaurant scene. It's a small seafood counter with an extensive menu. Seating is in West Sixth Brewing, next door. The menu includes a variety of appetizers, salads, fish baskets and sandwiches, a burger, hot dog, and whole tilapia. The whole tilapia and most of the salad greens are raised on-site by a neighboring non-profit aquaponics facility, FoodChain. The food is amazing. Salads are fresh and inventive. The fish is fresh as it gets and perfectly fried (battered, rolled and fried, or pan seared). And there are some fun surprises -- like fish nachos, fish tacos (asian-style), and even the burger is great (sustainably raised beef!). Definitely worth checking out.

We love West 6th and love Smithtown Seafood! The people who work there are as wonderful as the food. The rice paper tacos are a must! I can't wait to go back again and keep trying more.

We got the 2 for $25 basket deal- two baskets (each with a fish, cole slaw, fries, two drinks, and a cookie). He got cod, I got shrimp; both beer battered. We found the batter a little heavy. Next time we will get the cornmeal. The coleslaw was very good for out. The fries were also tasty, not over salted. Overall, this is good seafood in a landlocked state. And that is sustainable seafood is an added bonus.

Loved lunch at Smithtown Seafood, Lexington's first sustainable fish restaurant. It's a casual, order-at-the-counter joint but the quality of my fish tacos was top-notch. You grab a table next door at West Sixth Brewery, and the helpful staff brings your meal over to you. Parking wasn't an issue for me as I went at a non-peak time, lucked-up and found a spot on the street, but I can imagine it might be a challenge during busier times. Can't wait to return. All of Ouita Michel's restaurants (Holly Hill Inn, Wallace Station, Windy Corner, Midway School Bakery and now Smithtown Seafood) get an enthusiastic endorsement from me.

The seafood is terrific but what really impressed me is how they've taken simple things like a salad and really elevated them to a new level! Everything is very fresh and I love that some of the fish and greens are grown right in the building by FooChain. I like that it is casual and affordable but the food quality cannot be topped. I can't wait to try more menu items!
