My husband and I came here for lunch back in February, and it was so good that we brought my in-laws tonight while they were visiting from California. The place itself isn't much to write home about. It's nice and clean, but the decor won't strongly impress you. What will amaze you is the kindness and warmth of the staff and owner. They were very nice, attentive, and accommodating. I mentioned to the owner that it was my husband's birthday, and she said that she would bring us something special later on. We ordered the sashimi appetizer and an assortment of sushi rolls. Everything was delicious, and everyone agreed that the salmon was some of the best we'd had. The owner brought us the salmon steak in the chef's special sesame sauce as a birthday treat, which was amazing. We joked with her afterward that we would have licked the plate clean if it wouldn't have been so rude! While we were sitting after finishing our rolls, all of a sudden the music changed into a really intensely peppy birthday song. All of the staff came out clapping, and they brought a special dessert of fried ice cream and a "magic birthday candle." They also brought some complimentary desserts for the rest of the table, too! My husband was so surprised, and none of us could stop smiling for the rest of the night. Fantastic food combined with stellar service will make for many satisfied, repeat customers, and we will certainly be among them during our time in Lexington!

My first visit here was on my birthday back in February, and I absolutely loved the place. I figured the experience was so amazing because I was celebrating and having a good time with friends and figured that I would go back again to make sure it was such a magical place before writing a review. I did visit again, and the place was just as magical as the first time I was here. Ivan was our waiter, and he was very open and friendly with our group. He brought us some clear broth soup to enjoy while we decided what we wanted to order from the menu. After we ordered, Sue came over to check on us and told us that she was going to bring us something special to try, if we were feeling adventurous. We agreed and thanked her. Sue brought our food over and said it was the American Dream Roll, something new that was going to be put on the menu. It was clearly raw sushi, which I have never eaten - but she brought it over for us to try and I said I would, so I did -- and it was SO delicious. The rest of our order arrived: a Bluegrass Roll, an Out of Control Roll, a California Roll, and an Eel Maki Roll. Joe and I ate as much as we could but it was too much to finish, so we took the rest of it home. As we were getting ready to pay and leave, Sue told us not to leave yet, that she was going to bring us a mango cake dessert. The dessert was great. It was light, a hint of citrus, and just what the palate needed to end a perfect late night meal. The restaurant is somewhat small, so call ahead for seating if you can, but trust me you're going to love it here and they're going to treat you like family. You have to try this place out; it's simply the best!

3.5 stars, which by my scale means "above average for its class" but below "good enough to remember long after the meal is done" (4 stars in my book). Osaka is very much a standard suburban sushi restaurant, but it executes better than its peers. The fish at Osaka is better than the fish at most other suburban sushi restaurants, though it was served colder than optimal, which may have contributed to a decrease in taste. I enjoyed the creative presentation and plating of my sashimi, which managed to be artistic without descending into kitsch. The broiled mackerel was just fine, and the fresh fruit served at the end was a very nice touch. Osaka is a good neighborhood restaurant and great value for its price point. If you want Jiro-esque sushi, look elsewhere and expect to pay accordingly. Osaka is my go to when I just want to enjoy the simple pleasures of an American speciality roll without splurging on my budget.

Sashimi appetizer was outstanding tonight. Tuna was deep red color rich in taste and very fresh. The salmon was outstanding in texture and flavor. Never disappointed here!

Probably my favorite restaurant in town. The owner is always super friendly to my boyfriend and I when we come in. Every dish we have had here has been superb. I love the vegetable tempura soup and the miso soup. The Raman is good. My boyfriend eats fish and has loved every sushi dish he's had. He also loves the Lychee Sake. Dining here is a lovely experience. The servers are experienced and the dishes are delectable--always a work of art. We love it here.

Great Sushi, fresh fish--and such a wonderful presentation (see photo!). We also had great service. This is the new favorite sushi spot, and we had a wonderful time trying out a new place on our anniversary.

I had dinner here on a Friday night last week and I liked it so much that I came back for lunch on Monday. It's a small place, so I recommend making a reservation or coming at lunch instead of dinner on the weekend. It was full. We didn't have to wait too long, but there were several others waiting for a table too. We had the sushi boat for $35, recommended by our waiter. It was good, but I thought that we probably should have gotten the Lovers Boat for $10 more because it looked like a better deal. There was a lot of sashimi in the $35 boat though, so I felt that it was worth $35. All of it was VERY fresh and tasty. Today for lunch I ordered a $12 sushi plate that came with three rolls. It was very much worth the money especially since it included soup and a salad. Both visits we had exceptional service too. I would definitely recommend this place!

Love this place! This is our new go to restaurant for sushi from now on. Thank you Yelpers for helping us find this gem. I can't wait to come back here! The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome given that it was our first time at Osaka. Multiple people from our waiter, the manager and the sushi chefs were very attentive and courteous to us. The food was delicious and even the presentation was beautiful. The fish was fresh, the rice was nice and sticky and I just wish I was hungrier so I could have eaten more! My husband and I sat at the sushi bar and I had to stick to ordering cooked fish given that I'm pregnant so I ordered the eel sushi and eel and avocado roll. It was delicious! We also got a miso soup, special roll from the chef, fresh pineapple and a slice of mango cake for dessert on the house! I'm still thinking about that mango cake, it was moist with just the right amount of sweetness. Osaka would be a popular restaurant from their fresh sushi alone, but the amazing service and people who work here makes it really stand out. Thank you for such a great experience!

New Years Eve is a hopping time so be sure to make reservations. We originally got sat in the booth by the door, but as soon as a table was free, we were able to move further into the restaurant. This caused me to be a bit skeptical. The place is a bit of a hole in the wall. The sushi and sushi roll menu is extensive. I decided on the "amazing roll" and the "hot roll". Both were so delicious! The amazing roll had tempura fish inside and topped with a mango sauce. And the hot roll is completely fried in tempura and topped with eel sauce. We also ordered tuna sashimi and it was fantastic--tender, soft and flavorful. I was so surprised. I really did not think it was going to be as good as it was and honestly, this really is the BEST sushi in Lexington!

I am not sure why my experience was so different from that of other reviewers, but this was one of the more disappointing sushi meals I have ever had. The service was tentative, but nice. However, the sushi was actually flavorless. We tried four different rolls and couldn't taste the fish in any of them. I noticed that most of their rolls on the menu contained "spicy" something - tuna, yellowtail, etc. Perhaps because the quality of the fish itself isn't very good? If you are used to high-quality sushi, you may not want to visit this place.

The prices are great and the proportion are nice as well. We enjoyed everything except the calamari. The squid was to large and tough. To our surprise we received a complimentary fried ice cream which was very nice!

I have visited twice now while visiting the Lexington area for business and have been very impressed both times! The sushi is delicious, service friendly and quick, and atmosphere clean. I dined in and did take out and both times was impressed. They have always gone above and beyond by giveing me a little extra like a free desert or crab salad just to taste! I will be a regular when in town.

Such wonderful people and food!! My husband and I eat here occasionally and tonight we both had crazy days and went to get sushi. We ordered just rolls and salads and they gave us that plus a free appetizer and desert and put it all on a boat instead of plates! Made both of our nights, such an amazing place and they are so nice!!! The sushi was outstanding as always and the service top notch!!!

Very courteous staff, nice interior with a pretty sushi bar, very clean, very tasty food. I got the chicken udon soup, my boyfriend got the chicken teriyaki, and we split a Philadelphia roll. My boyfriend was given a salad with ginger dressing and some soup to begin with, and I was given a salad but no soup since my entree was soup. The staff checked on us consistently, keeping our water filled, making sure everything tasted good, checking to see what we were waiting on when my boyfriend's entree and our sushi had come out but I didn't have my udon yet. Everything was quite tasty. The soup was mild but had a pleasant taste; I loved the mushrooms. The chicken in the soup, despite just looking like plain boiled chicken, tasted very good. I loved the sushi. I tried some of the teriyaki chicken and it was great, lovely sauce but without being overwhelming. I thought the prices were reasonable, and we left very full with half my soup leftover. They give you a large slice of fresh pineapple on the core, cut into bite-sized chunks, as a free dessert. A girl could get used to after-dinner pineapple! We will definitely go back. They had an extensive menu and I'd like to try more. I didn't really have a Japanese place that came to mind as "aha! we gotta go *there!*" whenever I had the desire to eat sushi, but now that spot is reserved for Osaka.

  • Lexie G.

Pleased every time. Excellent food, staff, and quality. Have tried just about everything on the menu and have never been let down. Their menu should be called "Sushi and Beyond." They have Korean and Hibachi dishes as well. They do a good job of having something for everyone to enjoy, including those being introduced to a sushi restaurant for the first time. Be careful with big groups though. This place is small and probably couldn't hold more than 8 people at one table.

I live in MA, and the sushi was creative, fresh, and delicious! The customer service was so great and you even get a little dessert! If I ever return to KY, I will be back!

I haven't tried a sushi roll I didn't like from here. My first time there were so many chooses, so I asked our waitress for advise and she took complete care of us. The sushi and food is amazing.. The waitress and cooks are fantastic too. I would definitely recommend!

We chose this for a birthday meal because it has the highest rating of any Japanese restaurant in Lexington. Our appetizers age tofu (delicious!) and seaweed salad (pretty good) came in ten minutes or so. So did the miso soup, which I believe was instant. Then we waited and waited. Table after table of people who came in after us were served. Turns out the sushi chefs misplaced our order, which the owner herself had taken. Normally, "Ooops, we'll get that right away." And "no problem". But the sushi chef refused to rearrange our lost order from the back of the line! Our waiter was over there trying to convince him to move it "as a favor", and an hour past when we got appetizers, he even tried to get back there behind to make the orders himself! Finally, the sushi master brought out one person's sashimi, and oddly he had an attitude no less. It was a full ten minutes before the other food was finally ready. No sushi in America compares to that in Japan (the five times we've been) but compared to NY, San Francisco, DC, Honolulu, Miami - places we've had a lot of sushi, it was decent. 6.5 out of 10. We got an appetizer as apology for the mix up. But the check had a mistake for something overcharging us on two pieces of the nigiri. We just paid and left. The waiter(s) were nice in spirit, and the sushi decent. But the awkwardness and frustration? Who needs it? Next time, we'll try somewhere else.

For a place that was packed on New Years Eve the staff was very accommodating. Original table was right next to the door and very cold with many more customers coming and going. The staff allowed us to move as soon as a table came open. The food was beyond excellent and the wait from ordering to the time the food arrived was not long at all. I had the Tonkatsu which was cooked to perfection and very tasty. I was with friends who ordered from the very dense selection of sushi. I tried the Amazing Roll and it was one of the most delicious things I had ever eaten, and I do not like sushi. Surprisingly they also had some of the best Iced Tea I have ever consumed. Osaka is easily the best sushi place in town based on the quality of the food and reasonable prices. The only thing I can think that would improve the place is if they had a hostess stand to assist in seating.

Best sashimi in town! Celebrated my wife's birthday and had the freshest sushi ever tasted in lexington. Price was reasonable too! They even gave us a free sashimi appertizer and free green tea ice cream with a music birthday candle.. Made our day thank you we cannot wait to go back!

Ordered basic rolls for pickup since we were on the road. We got spicy tuna, tempura salmon, philly, tuna avocado and salmon avocado. All very fresh and very tasty. The staff was very nice and we received a complimentary salad since we waited a little bit for our order to be completed. Will definitely stop by again when we are in the area.

The food was fantastic. The sushi was beautifully plated and the red dragon roll is filled with a medley of flavors and textures. The filet mignon was rich and seemed to melt in the mouth. The service was lovely. Our waiter was happy to help us work out what sounded best, and readily answered all of our questions. The sushi chefs showed such pride in their work, making sure every plate was just so. These are men who clearly enjoy what they do. The atmosphere was nothing amazing, but it is a small place. It felt almost cozy.

I travel all over for business and love sushi. This may be my favorite place anywhere. The staff is so friendly, helpful and accommodating that you can't help but be happy. The sushi was amazing. The sashimi was so fresh and tasty. The rolls were unique and the artistry is beautiful. If you like sushi you would be remiss if you did not give this place a try. You won't be disappointed.

This is an amazing restaurant. While it is very small and can only seat roughly 10 small groups at tables and booths, there is a cozy sushi bar to sit at. We had to wait a bit on both of our visits but the wait was well worth the tasty and flavorful sushi rolls. In fact this was as good if not better than sushi I had on a visit to Myrtle Beach SC. Oh did I mention we paid half of what we did at the beach for double the amount of food. This restaurant seems to be family ran and the respect the employees give the food and guests is unparalleled. Overall a wonderful experience with friendly staff and a great atmosphere.

Best sushi place in lexington. The servers are amazing they treat you like a family not as a customer and the manager lady 'wish I knew her name' is super friendly and treats you love and respect. Food is fantastic. Price is right and million reasons for everyone to go eat at Osaka. Love the place. Since my first visit I haven't gone anywhere else for sushi cause this place is the bomb. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I don't have problem with waiting time, but there wasn't anyone to receive people at the door and just like that a couple that arrive after us was seated in front of our faces. I can't trust a place that doesn't care about costumers, if they don't care about people why I should think they care about food.

In the top 10 of my favorite restaurants in Lexington for sure! Top quality grade sushi, beautiful tender cuts of tuna and salmon. The staff is right on top of refilling your sake and making sure you are attended to. I recommend anyone who is first trying sushi to come here. The chef sent us two complementary dishes that were delectable.

Straight up delicious. Wandered into this place with my mother for dinner after randomly finding it on Yelp. Very small, but WOW. Delicious sushi, we had the Firecracker Roll, Osaka Roll, and a Spicy Tuna Roll. All delicious. We were so stuffed! Will be back!

We went to Osaka for the first time yesterday and let me tell you first off it's a cute little restraunt! The staff everyone is so nice and friendly go above and beyond to make sure you liked everything. Sue was our waiter and honestly can't wait to go back!! We had calamari for appetizer it was good. Their house salad was on point. The sushi was amazing!!!! If you haven't tried this place your seriously missing out.

NEW FAVORITE SUSHI SPOT for me and the hubbie. The next best thing to do after having really bad sushi in somerset is to have really great sushi in lexington. Hands down, high ten, Osaka has the best sushi in Kentucky by far. Please don't change your location, your food, or your chefs. It is all mouth watering, STILL can taste the paradise roll after weeks, in my mouth, deliciousness. We ordered four rolls. A caribbean, a paradise, a rainbow and a dragon roll. We stuck with two of our usuals and tried two new ones. I love the paradise roll, with it's hint of sweet banana and the saltyness of the rice it was absolutely delicious. Usually I would mind the pink seaweed wrap, but the paradise roll tastes perfect with the wrap. So you got to have to try the paradise roll. Highly recommended. His favorite is the caribbean roll, because it's got coconut shavings on top and has cream cheese in it. He likes to save that roll has his last one because its like his desert. The waitress was too sweet and they were even playing some mandarin music. I was gonna ask who was the singer for one of the songs, but then I chickened out. I already know what I'm gonna order the next time we're back. The ramen and what else, the paradise roll! Remarkable sushi, Outstanding service, what more can a customer ask for?

Awesome sushi at a decent price. Downside is that on a weekend night, the place isn't large enough to accommodate a lot at once.

This is by far my favorite restaurant I have ever been to. They have amazing food and an even better atmosphere and customer service. It's a small restaurant, but deserves big reviews!! After visiting only a few times, I feel like the servers already know who I am. Whenever I go in, I am greeted with smiles and feel every welcomed. The chefs are constantly preparing food to sample and little treats on the house. They have a variety of foods based on your price range. Sometimes, when I'm in need of something cheap but delicious, I get the fried rice and salad ($4) or the spicy California roll ($4.25). However, they also have a wide range of more extravagant meals. They have both hibachi and sushi. Everyone in there seems to be a regular. The workers in there are all very close and some are related. You feel at home, but the food presentation is also very high class. I go in almost once a week and recommend Osaka to all of my friends. Once you go once, you're guaranteed to go back!

We just had the sushi but the rolls were wonderful and the nigiri was great minus the sea urchin. The urchin was not as firm as I am used to and it may have been soaking in simply salt water. Try the Red Lobster roll if you like rolls with a bit of crunch or texture added. It may have been my favorite.

I had yet to find a good sushi place in Lexington until Osaka. Tonight was my first visit and I will certainly be back. With such a high rating on Yelp I was surprised that the place was almost empty, although it was nearly 9pm. That quickly changed as several regulars seemed to show up right after we were seated, and the staffed greeted them warmly. Usually a good sign that people visit often enough to become friendly with the employees. We started off with the white tuna appetizer and it was fresh, flavorful and had a spicy kick. The menu was extensive with so many appealing sushi rolls it was hard to pick just a few. We had the Cowboy Roll, Dinosaur Roll, and the Osaka with each one better than the next. Plate presentation was on point as well! Even though we were nearly stuffed we ordered one more roll and couldn't say no when our lovely waitress brought complimentary fried ice cream. As far as sushi goes this is the place to go in town. Thanks for taking care of us and serving great food at a reasonable price! Looking forward to coming back.

What a great surprise. Very creative rolls and fantastic service. I think everyone in the restaurant greeted me personally. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's the food that matters! The Tempura Dynamite roll and the classic Rainbow Roll. Yum! I guess I'll be eating my way through lexington sushi restaurants... But I might just come back here.

Osaka, in a nutshell, is wonderful. Amazing service, fantastic prices, and above all else, great food! The fish is SO fresh. The rolls themselves are unique, tasty, and top quality without completely breaking the bank. Servers are also incredibly helpful and will allow you to try whatever you like--each one is incredibly accommodating and if you are new to Japanese food, they make the menu a lot less intimidating than it might initially seem. We absolutely love each and every one of our experiences here and recommend it to everyone. Whether you're a sushi enthusiast or you're a newbie wanting to give it a try, you will be pleased with your visit here!

About me... I lived in Japan for two years and I've loved Japanese food ever since. I don't really like sushi, but I love "normal" Japanese food and Osaka is the best in Lexington! It's a small place, very intimate, next to Rite Aid off of Boston Road. Definitely "Best" Gyoza! Definitely "Best" Ramen!. But the owners of Osaka really make a difference. They are personal, friendly and welcoming. I love it there! Never have a bad experience.

What a great business. It was my first time here and though I was 45 minutes late for their lunch specials (they end at 3pm), they gave me the discount anyway. I ordered two specialty rolls and the meal came with a salad, miso soup, and a slice of pineapple for dessert. I was blown away with the quality of the sushi and the prices. It was so affordable for the quality (and quantity!) of the meal. You can also get 3 specialty rolls and all the sides for just $11-- the price of one special roll anywhere else. The chef even gave me a piece of a spicy salmon roll (scrumptious!) complimentary to my meal. All the staff were kind and helpful. I will definitely be coming back with friends and family.

New owners since December who are working hard to make orders more affordable and to improve customer satisfaction. Fish is still very fresh and flavorful, expertly sliced with 90degree angle precision. One of the best places in lexington to get sushi, sashimi and a plethora of roll choices. Also an extensive menu of appetizers and hot food. My favorite is the chirashi lunch/dinner. The new owners have lowered the price for chirashi lunch but also included less fish. Love love love the white tuna. Have also tried some cooked food. Katsudon burimono was amazing. Delicious and hefty portion size. Yaki udon also very very good. This is now my go to Japanese restaurant. They are almost always open when I get my sushi cravings.

The other reviewer was right about the sexy white tuna appetizer. Awesome. Almost like dessert. Sexy salmon is also great & spicier. Have been here about a dozen times & have left satisfied both with food & service every time. Employees are always friendly. Seems like it is getting better every time we go

To begin with. According to the owner, the place changed management at the beginning of 2014. Now is a family business, the owner is one of the chef. The place is ok, according to them, is getting new stuff and adding a japanese style. It needs better ambiance. The service is very good, since the beginning the waiter was very respectful and knew about the dishes. The food is fantastic, presentation is very good. Quality is excellent and flavors are great! You can feel the freshness of the fish. The sashimi was the best I've tried in the Louisville/Lexington area. The Tempura was also the best I've tried in this area, it was crispy, warm and a very thin layer that combined very well with the shrimp. I will definitely go back soon!

Thought I'd try this place for lunch and what a treat! The sushi chefs are friendly and knowledgable and the staff is just as wonderfully friendly. You feel like family here and the cozy atmosphere adds to that feel. The cuisine is delightfully fresh and creative. Wonderful Asian Fusion along with the traditional fish dishes. The prices are surprisingly reasonable for such delicious & plentiful appetizers and entrees. Be sure to try the Sexy Salmon appetizer: salmon sashimi rolled around crab meat with 'crunch' & spicy mayo. Melts in your mouth. I'm sure to become a regular.

By far the best place in town to get Japanese food. Everything there is great but the Kani salad and ginger pork is a must try. The staff there gives the best service I've had anywhere. They make you feel like one of the family while you're enjoying the amazing food they cook up to order. Everything from the fish to the fried ice cream is fresh and prepared special for you. Try the green tea fried ice cream, you will not regret it!

Great experience and wonderful food. The sushi is delicious every time I go here. The wife and I order two separate meals and split them and we've never gotten setting we didn't like. The presentation of the food is always beautiful, the price is very reasonable and the staff is so nice to us every time! I would and do highly recommend eating here!

My family and I went to Osaka the other day after trying to go to Nagasaki but they were already closed for several hours until they reopened for dinner. When we arrived I was a little worried because it was a small building and didn't have the traditional hibachi setup like Nagasaki and others where the food is cooked in front of you on the table. The waitress we had was amazing. She was very attentive, and helpful. She answered all of our questions with out missing a beat. She knew the menu very well and she was quick with the refills. We ordered and the food came out quickly. The salads were very good, but I still prefer Nagasaki's salad (but at the same time, no other Japanese restaurant has ever beaten Nagasaki's salad in my opinion.) The soup was very good and full of flavor. I ordered the Chicken Hibachi, it was $15 dollars ($10 I believe if you go at lunch time.) It was fantastic. The vegetables had a good mix and the chicken was not dried out like it sometimes tends to be at these restaurants. After we finished eating, desert arrived. We didn't order desert. The waitress realized it was our first time there and she gave it to us for free. She gave us an incredible raspberry Japanese ice cream with tempora banana's and sliced pineapple. Needless to say, I will miss Nagasaki when it closes it's doors on 7/31/14, but Osaka will become my new Nagasaki. Incredible service with amazing food. It is all priced very reasonably. Highly recommend.

Great place to eat at. I've been to a lot of sushi places, but this place was so friendly and welcoming that I'll definitely come back. The sushi was amazing as well and not over priced. The chef saw that my boyfriend and I were just having a fun dinner together and made us a picture of love birds in the sun next to our sushi. At the end of our meal they gave us free green tea Ice Cream tempura! Can't get much better than that.

Love the Fire Scallop Roll. Tried most rolls and haven't tasted a bad one yet. Service is awesome and always very nice.

This place is awesome. Best service I've ever had. I ordered 2 sushi rolls And they just kept bringing me good like I was at my granny's house. They gave me a free desert and appetizer and were more than friendly. The sushi chef asked me where I was from, how I was doing, etc

I was visiting Lexington over the holidays and my parents told me about this place under new ownership that serves fresh sushi, so we had a small get-together there. It's a Chinese-run Japanese restaurant, but if you like raw fish, I'll let the quality speak for itself. The new owners try hard and do a good job at running this establishment. I heard the chef had training in Japan, and you can tell he's got excellent knife work. This being landlocked Kentucky, it's hard to get a wide selection of fish (don't expect to get "omakase" chef's choice), but I thought they were pretty fresh given how far they travelled. They didn't serve "toro" (fatty tuna) the night I went, possibly because they can't get good quality shipments on a regular basis. I can't say much for the rolls or the noodles since I'm more into sashimi, but their cooked dishes are delicious and nicely presented. The chef really tries to decorate some of the dishes with edible arrangements and garnishes (don't eat the real flowers, though). Their "hamachi kama" (yellowtail collar) is extremely juicy and well priced compared to what I normally see in the San Francisco Bay Area. Decor is nothing to write home about, but decent and more importantly, clean. Service can be a bit slow when they're overwhelmed, but I cut them some slack since they just opened. I'd like to come back the next time I'm in town and see how the business is going.

This place is awesome. The staff is very nice and always does a great job. The food is exceptional. I have yet to have a bad item or experience here. I always try something new and I am still surprised how good it is and how it seems to get better. Triple sushi is a great value. Check out the dinosaur egg, its fantastic!

I have been eating Sushi over 25 years and had the good fortune to work in an industry where we entertained clients on a regular basis. So I've eaten Sushi all over the US. Mostly sashimi because rice fills me up to quickly. My favorite varieties are salmon, fatty tuna, giant clam and yellow tail and lots of octopus. Since i live a couple of blocks from Osaka I eat there at least twice a week. Having said that, if I lived on the complete opposite end of town I would still drive to Osaka. The fish is always fresh, the portions always large and the help is always very very cordial and friendly. Sue and Ivan work 7 days a week to ensure their customer's experience is always first rate. They have a full menu of Asian specialties as well as sushi, something for everyone. Delicious soups, noodle dishes, fried rice and hibachi selections. And all at very reasonable prices. Once you eat here you can't wait to return, it is my favorite restaurant in Lexington and it just might become your's as well. You can't help but notice all of the 5 star ratings on yelp, there is a reason for that, find out for yourself, get over here soon! Bon Appetite!

very nice place. Chef is quite friendly and nice. Ramen is just ordinary. Sea urchin is excellent! Sashimi combo is great. Won't drink too much sake next time. Update: This place changed its owner this year but I love visiting even more. They are so good that I don't even miss the previous one. Be sure to visit if u can. Satisfaction guaranteed if ur a sushi/sashimi fan.

My new favorite for Japanese food in Lexington! Seriously. My wife and me were looking to have some sushi. She was craving ikura, and we were thinking of trying a new place. Well, we'd passed Osaka many times over the years, so we thought we'd try them. We only wish we'd been going here for years instead of passing it by. The sushi is fresh and well prepared. The rolls are savory and have sublime flavor. I liked the Las Vegas roll, my wife enjoyed the Dana roll. The entrees are outstanding as well. I haven't had okonomiyaki that good in many years, if ever. The decor is tasteful and subdued, and the place is kept immaculately clean. Service was attentive and friendly. From the sounds of things, they have a regular crowd there that the chef and servers know well, but we were still treated quite well for it being our first time.

This was my first Japanese restaurant experience so I was a little lost and over whelmed at the menu. We chose to sit at the hibachi. I ordered the vegetarian meal and it came with the chicken broth soup (not sure the name) and a salad which came with an awesome ginger dressing. The portions were huge and all of the meat choices (that the people around me ordered) came with the same vegetables that I got. I wish that the waitress would've explained the menu or the process after we told her that it was our first time. I should've tried the sushi, it looked excellent and was very reasonably priced. I will try a different Japanese restaurant the next time and see how they compare.

The reviewers who talked about the sashimi here and the Uni in particular were right. This place has very fresh sushi. Awesome. And the chef is very friendly. Not overly talkative but very happy and genuine. Doesn't skimp. The shrimp tempura appetizer was ok, and I wasn't a fan of the miso soup or house salad. But the sushi was great and that's why I came. So a win.

Freshest fish I've had away from the coast. Amazing sushi spot. This place went above and beyond on all levels to make sure my experience was one of a kind. This was also my first time having sushi here, when the chef found this out he was pleased to "hook us up" and give us one of his special salmon dishes. Our server was also very pleased that it was the first visit for us and hooked us up with some miso and a salad. Over all highly recommended for amazing service and amazing food.

Best Japanese food I've had in Lexington. Very fresh sushi and very good service. Prices were good and holding steady while some of the other sushi places are going up. If you like fresh sushi, rolls and good Japanese food try this place.

The service is truly one of a kind. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and welcoming! Throughout the meal, they would offer complimentary goods to our table; simply put, this restaurant is remarkable.

Best sushi restaurant in Lexington! Friendly staff and the selections are always great! We always try a new roll everytime we go! The Snow White, Las Vegas, Wildcat Roll, and Osaka Roll are wonderful!

Mediocre sushi- lacks freshness and high quality fish. We tried the wildcat roll, A's roll, the spicy tuna salad, and a baked spicy scallop roll... Unfortunately, there was really nothing exceptional about any of them. I was disappointed to find imitation crab in two rolls and the tuna sashimi in the spicy tuna salad was not very fresh! I will not be rushing back anytime soon!

Very, very good Japanese food and sushi. The sushi menu can be overwhelming, but I never seem to pick one that is not delicious and fresh. I highly recommend this place.

Update: Osaka is now delivering and they are very good for that. Sushi delivery? Yes. Please. Quality has gone up. I think it's new ownership. Friendly on the phone and they usually throw something in. I'm tired of over enthusiastic reviews for basic places. Osaka is basic. A $6.50 cucumber and octopus salad that had little flavor and nothing special done to it. The rolls were shy of any quantity of fish and overdone with soy sauce. The pineapple at the end was a nice touch. But like every sushi place out there that borders on the basic, the beer list is all In-Bev. Why don't sushi restaurants serve real Japanese beer like Hitachino? Cut your umbilical cord to those who pitch Budweiser products. Osaka is ok. But not great. Not fantastic. Not the best.

We love this place! Can always get a table, they're always happy to see you, the sushi is great, and the non-sushi is good too if you like that kinda stuff. what more can you ask for? Well, one thing that helps set it high is that not only are they happy to see us, they are still happy to see us when we bring the toddler. She has gotten better about not wrecking the joint, but there have been times when she has left quite the mess. We try to keep it to a minimum but there is only so much you can do. Course, it may help that we tip well, but nonetheless they seem genuinely happy to see you when you walk in. This is our "goto family sushi" joint, but Even when we don't have the kid with us I'd happily go there. Addendum- the place has changed hands now. We went the first week the new owners were running the place and it was a bit rocky, but we've been back since. The service isn't as good as it had been, but still not bad. I can't really perceive a change in the quality of the sushi, bit I've not had the non-sushi items so I can't speak to that. They do seem very welcoming and happy to see us.

Their spicy tuna salad is the best thing I have ever eaten! Before trying this delicious item I had eaten several types of their sushi rolls and they were very good, however having eaten the spicy tuna salad I may never eat anything else on their menu. It consists of slices of raw tuna, cucumbers (which I normally don't even like), some sort of mixture of tuna with something else, crispy things and a spicy mayo dressing. (i am not a sushi expert, obviously!) They will also make it extra spicy if requested. If I'm extra hungry, I just order two spicy tuna salads, why mess with perfection? :)

Good not great. Wide choice of creative rolls a plus. Freshness and flavor of fish a minus.

Excellent Sushi, Flown in fresh from Japan. The rolls are amazing. Try the happy roll, derby roll, fire scallop roll or any of the rolls I haven't had a bad one. Friendly service.

I went back a 2nd time on a recent trip to Lexington. There are new rolls on the menu. The folks are very friendly. They came over to let us try wood sake cups. That imparted a rather interesting flavor. At first it helped cut the "sharpness" of the sake but at the end of the cup, it was like chewing on a wood pencil. I'll stick with the little ceramic cups. As for the sushi, again, it was nice. I had a new roll, basically a rainbow roll with spicy crab inside. Tasty. And a nice assortment of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, etc. All nice serving sizes and fresh.

Just moved to Lexington from Charleston, SC (the beach) and I was SO excited that we found Osaka. I was afraid our fresh sushi days were coming abrubtly to a hault... but no! Happy to report GREAT sushi at Osaka. It is a relatively small place but last time we were there it was packed. The service is super and the sushi is amazing. They have a huge menu of specialty rolls, we haven't had one we didn't enjoy thoroughly. *If I could deduct 1/4 of a star- I would because the salad with ginger dressing wasn't great- but I will say that I'm an abnormally huge fan of this salad.

Eat at this restaurant at least once a week. I accidentally marked a roll that was one column over from what I wanted and I'm in love. It is labeled Roseanna Roll. In actuality, it is a tempura shrimp roll with a spicy mayo and masago topping. The service is outstanding and the fish is fresh. I have tried an authentic dish that resembled and omelet with bits of dried bonito on top. They were so thin that they moved with the slightest breeze. It looked like a wind blown forest viewed from high above. I'm on my way again this evening. Everything I've had was excellent.
