How many times I've passed La Marquesa while cutting down Reynolds to Nicholasville Rd., glanced at it and never gave it a thought. Craving tacos today, and not wanting to drive downtown to Maria's, I ventured into this eatery. I ordered three tacos -- lengua, chorizo and al pastor. They were absolutely tacorrific! If there hadn't been two tacos under the very generous portions of meat, I wouldn't have been able to hold them together. Chopped onions, cilantro on top, and a squeeze of lime. The green tomatillo/jalapeno and the red habanero sauces were very good, and the heat, to my delight, snuck up on me, then POW. The chips were only vehicles for the sauces. Marco, is an amiable guy who is clearly proud of his homemade food. While the restaurant is a bit kitschy, the tacos are 5-Star.

This Mexican place is really good. It's never packed with too many people and the owners are one of the best people. We got tacos, chicken soup and a California burrito. Tacos are ok taste. Soup is alright. But the burrito!! Is awesome. Pulled pork with perfect smoky taste with melted cheese on top. The bread is soft and fabulous. Definitely recommended.

I'm obsessed with the lengua tacos. They are very authentic and come double wrapped in your choice of either corn or flour tortillas. They are more expensive than other places ($3), but that's because they are huge - double the size of a normal taco truck taco. The meat is so tender and good!

This place is really good and a cool car parked out front. Plus, it is way better than Mi Pequena Hacienda.

I wasn't too impressed. Service was slow. I got the nachos and they were just ok, nothing to write home about.

Very neat place with great customer service. The chips & salsa is delivered to you once you sit down and trust me they have great salsa and my chips were warm. Health department rated them with a 100 and that is always a good thing. Lunch menu is until 3 pm I had the Mexican tacos carna asada and my steak was a little chewy and dry but had a good flavor. The corn tortillas is larger then most places. Overall I would definitely eat here again

It was our first time there. We met the owner and she was SUPER NICE. I was also impressed with the food and atmosphere. Far exceeded my expectations. We'll definitely be back!

Authentic tacos, friendly service. May be our new favorite Mexican restaurant in town.

Loved it...before. Ate here dozens of times but last Friday left me sicker than a dog. Ate the taco that came with my wife's combo dinner and also had a bowl of tortilla soup. By 2am, woke up with chills and barely made it to bathroom before I began a 30 minute yack-a-thon. Took most of next day, and lots of soft food, before back to near normal.

Very friendly service with a smile! They are great. The menudo is pretty damn good too. Everything comes out in good portions and on time. And if you request ridiculous amounts of extra chilies and limes, etc. They don't complain. Very colorful and kinda over the top with the decor but whatever. Parking is never an issue either. Big booths and a back room if u want privacy.

During my Mom's visit, we came here for dinner on a Friday night. It wasnt busy at all, just like before. This time we had the house margaritas 2 for 1. Well worth it, they are big and tasty, oh and only $4.50. Deal! The salsa was as good as I remembered from before, the food was even better, and they DO have black beans. Our server was very friendly and fun. This has to be my favorite Mexican joint.

Coming from California, I was always a fan of Mexican food. The first time I had been there I got a burrito and the portions were quite good for the price. Second time around I went for the nachos and again I was stuffed. The reason for a high rate of four stars is mostly because I thought the portions were very good for the price. Atmosphere looks very casual and immature with Mexican decorations; but I still like it just the same.

Great honest food. Still as good as when it was a grocery store. Try the fish tacos.

Hands down the best Mexican food in Lexington. I cannot understand why people would bother going to the The Frozen Mexican Food Shack, otherwise known as Mi Pequena Hacienda. I know that isn't the correct translation but it might as well be. I have received undercooked frozen food at Hacienda several times. All the while, just up the road a couple blocks is authentic, homemade Mexican food paired with impeccable service. The owners are always smiling and friendly and the food, well it speaks for itself. La Marquesa is amazing.

The California Burrito is huge. And delicious. This is a nice little Mexican restaurant that no one has heard of, and that is part of the charm. No long waits here like at Pequena Hacienda. Family owned and operated, and they are great people. My "go-to" Mexican joint in Lexington.

The best Mexican food around (fish tacos)! And amazing service. We always leave feeling good. It's hidden away in a strip mall but worth the search!

The service here is very good. They are never too busy when I go in, and I'm not sure why, because I really like their food. They have the best tacos I've ever had. I also tried some sort of soup that was really good as well. Their food has a slightly different taste than most of the Mexican restaurants around town, so you should check it out.

This place has fantastic tamales. They're big (about like as big as a small burrito) and fresh. They have them listed on a separate notecard at the table, suggesting they change them frequently, but every time I've been there they've had the same 3 options. Everything else that I've tried has been average to below-average. Nonetheless, service is good and it's worth a trip just for the tamales.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
