Great Wall is a hidden secret of Lexington...out here in LA, it's no surprise when a great restaurant is buried in a strip mall alongside laundromats and a Rite Aid, but as far as i'm aware, thats not something that happens very often in Lex... i have to say that Great Wall's potstickers are some of the BEST i've ever had. the dough is thick and starchy (may not suit everyone's taste) and it's pan-fried to perfection. they are flat and crisp on the bottom and soft and moist on the top. the meat inside is mixed with veggies, is always yummy and never greasy. the house-made potsticker sauce is a perfect pairing...i swear, i could eat a dozen. the lo-mein is also really yummy. it's incredibly flavorful, it's not just slippery noodles and bland cabbage, like lo-mein can so often be. it's also kinda starchy and has been known to induce a food-coma. my best friend and i used to skip high school and come to Great Wall for the sesame chicken-- i don't think i've ever had sesame chicken that good since...but maybe the thrill of cutting class added to the flavor... i guess Great Wall is definitely a place you'd go for super comfort food. it's not exactly the picture of health, but it's worth checking out for some cheap, Chinese home-cookin'!

I've tried many of the Chinese take out places in Lexington, but none have been as good as Great Wall. I didn't even know it existed until a few weeks ago, and it's all I've eaten since when looking for Chinese takeout. I usually judge take out by a few things that I really like, wonton soup and their fried rice. Both of these were great. I've tried several different items on the menu and each have been better than what I've had elsewhere. The General Tso's chicken is one of the best I've had. I highly recommend this place. As one reviewer mentioned, they don't take credit/debit cards, so make sure you have cash.

My husband and I discovered Great Walll when he was going to UK . It became our go-to Chinese take-out almost 18yrs ago. When we moved to Versailles, we tried a couple of the local Chinese restaurants. They did not then, nor even now, compare to quality food we receive from the Great Wall. The young woman who receives orders recognizes my voice when I call in an orderand always warmly greets us when we come in. There is no other take-out or buffet that prepares the General Tso's chicken so well. We love the chicken and broccoli, sesame chicken, pork lo mein and wonton soup. They are a hard working friendly staff that produces good quality (and quantity) food at reasonable prices. We will drive in from Versailles just to get Great Wall. It's that good! Bring cash.

Solid choice for Chinese takeout. It's been a staple for cheap and quick lunch or dinner for many years. It's certainly not a high end restaurant, but that's not what they are going for. I always enjoy the sesame chicken. I might be bias as it does remind me of my college days.

This is a typical, slightly-below-average Chinese take-out/delivery place with one huge, glaring flaw. That flaw is that they do NOT accept credit or debit cards. When I was there they weren't horribly up front about that fact either. Hopefully they have at least put up some more obvious signs about this glaring lack. The food itself is mediocre and typical of any strip-mall Chinese place you'll find anywhere in the US. I'll say it's slightly below average because I noticed they have a tendency to skimp on the meat in favor of vegetables, especially broccoli. Broccoli is cheap and takes up a lot of space in a dish, so they use it a lot. Most things about this place are the same, generic Chinese restaurant deal you'll see at any place. The same dishes, the same red lettering for "spicy' dishes, the same food all over again. You've probably eaten at a place just like this. After having their food a few times because I had friends that had ordered from there, I figured I'd get some myself so I placed an order and went there to pick it up. The food had been weak, but I thought I'd buy some myself since I was in the neighborhood. However, not only do they not accept credit or debit cards, they didn't have any big indication that they did not, so I walked in to pay for my take-out order with a card and was bluntly told they didn't accept plastic. The suggestion of the person behind the counter? Go to the gas station down the road, buy something, and use the cash-back option on the debit card reader to get money to pay for the food. It would have been a two-star place for being a slightly below average, but marginally passable, Chinese place. It loses a star and goes to the bottom rating for not even being able to take credit cards. They can afford rent and the commercial overhead of a strip-mall spot, but not a merchant account?

I have been going to great wall for 20 years and I absolutely love their food. The sesame chicken is solid, the fried dumplings are really good. The kids like the sweet and sour chicken and vegetable fried rice. By far my favorite is the Singapore mei fun. It is fantastic, one of my top 3 foods in the whole world. Spicy curry noodles, with shrimp, chicken, pork and vegetables. It's the reason I'm writing this review! I've ordered it at other Chinese restaurants and is never as good as great wall. The girl who works the counter is always really nice and works hard. I can't believe people write bad reviews because they don't take credit cards. I've always thought it was a little strange but really not a big deal...just hit up an atm on the way there!

I've only been to Great Wall once, and I'm not sure I'll go again. Not because of anything glaringly negative, but I have to believe there's a less mediocre Chinese takeout place close to where I work. I went to great wall after striking out at Golden Dragon, which apparently doesn't substitute tofu in any of their dishes. What I ended up getting at Great Wall was broccoli in garlic sauce, which doesn't have tofu, but I don't think Golden Dragon had that either, so there you are. The broccoli was cooked right, I'll say that, but there was something about the flavor medley of the sauce and the other ingredients that wasn't working for me. Also, despite being listed as "spicy" on the menu, it definitely was not. A final nitpick is that they don't take credit cards, which lead me to get cash from the ATM at the laundromat next door, incurring a $3.00 ATM fee in the process.

For Chinese take-out, this place is always a good choice. I've had several mains including Human Shrimp, Kung Pao Chicken, Chicken with Vegetables (I asked for it hot), Lemon Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken, and several others. I have never had one that was disappointing and the portions are fairly large for the price. The interior is spartan and I would recommend getting your food to-go. Just remember to bring cash or check. Not accepting credit cards was originally the only complaint I had but looking back, I would have spent way too much on take-out if they did. Nice hidden gem in Lexington.

Nothing too special, but this is the place for me when I get the craving for some greasy Americanized Chinese food. They only take cash. The service is not friendly...but what's cool is you can go to Yu Yu right beforehand for the double dose of silent poker face stares.

I have to say that Great Wall is my all time favorite Chinese restaurant in Lexington. The service is friendly and fast. I recommend the lunch specials, $5.25 and you get a huge plate of food and a can of soda. Take plenty of money, it is cash only. The only thing I don't like about Great Wall is that they use styrofoam plates and plastic utensils. Seriously there are plenty of college kids running around that would wash (or warsh for you locals) dishes for some free pot stickers.

This restaurant opened when I was still in high school. Now, after moving away, finishing college and having my own family, I thought I'd venture back to one of my favorite restaurants back home. This restaurant is nothing like it used to be. My husband ordered the bourbon chicken, and I ordered chicken with vegetables. We were asked if we wanted white or fried rice. We said fried. Fried rice is supposed to come with a few peas (or some sort of veggie), and pork pieces right? Well that's the way it used to be years ago. Maybe with the price of groceries going up they've cut back? Their version of fried rice was just a plain, bland, yellow rice that had less flavor than Uncle Ben's microwavable rice packages. My chicken and veggies had a few slivers of carrot in them, a few teaspoons of sauce, an abundance of rice (more rice than meat or veggies) and virtually no flavor. This restaurant used to be THE Chinese resaturant to go to in Lexington! Most of their dishes (at least the ones I purchased) came with a savory garlic sauce that no other restaurant could duplicate, and fried rice that had more than just a yellow pigment. Compared to what the food used to taste like, their food now really lacks flavor. They did do a good job taking my order quickly, and the food was ready in a timely manner. However I didn't enjoy the fact that they do not take credit or debit cards. THEY asked me to walk several stores down to the Dollar Store and told me to buy something, so that I could get cash back to pay for my meal at the Great Wall. They told me that if I would just go ahead and walk down to the Dollar Store, that when I returned my order would be ready. I didn't appreciate that. Yes I could use the exercise, but the inconvenience I could have done without. Times are hard for everybody right now. In light of that fact, if you don't have money to waste, then don't waste your time and gas buying tasteless food here. Update**** They now have a credit card machine.

This is our absolute favorite Chinese place in Lexington. They have never steered us wrong in the 7 years we ave been eating here. Another reviewer mentioned my favorite dishes - the sesame chicken and lo mein, both of which are extraordinary here. The sesame chicken avoids being that gross syrupy sweet mess it is elsewhere; at Great Wall it is rich and garlicky and if you ask for it hot, it is unmatched in flavor - except for maybe the lo mein, which is elevated above its normal noodle-ness to a state of savory-sauced noodle supremacy. Ultimately it doesn't matter that they don't accept cards; the taste of the food is more important than that mild inconvenience. Also, if you become a regular there, you will come to be known by the staff, who will show appreciation for your patronage by being incredibly friendly and welcoming.

Of the Chinese restaurants on Waller, this is the least mediocre. Standard green-on-white menu, spicy dishes in red, that you'd find at any strip mall Chinese restaurant in America. If you have family in the hospital across the street, you could come here for a bite and get the job done. Nothing special.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
