Best thing about Yelp! you ask? Easy. I'm from Cleveland, OH, I went on a bachelor party drinkathon in Lexington, KY and no one planned on feeding anyone for the whole weekend. Ok, one meal. Seriously, that's all we ate as a group the whole weekend. Going between blindness and short spurts of coherent thought in between bourbon tastes, smashing beers on many hour bus rides and irish car bombs, I found myself begging for food. I didn't even want water, which I likely needed at least as bad as food. So, some of the guys took a nap after the bourbon tour (I won't share the awful names we called them, as they're inappropriate for Yelp), so a few of us still had some get up and go left. Being me, I yelp us up a local burrito joint to get our eats on. Glad I did. We got to Ello's, it was tiny. We are large and there are 5 of us. We barely fit in the place together, seriously. Very simple place. The food is clearly their main focus, they've nailed it. Best meal in Lexington, perhaps anywhere. I might take the 6 hr drive just for more.

Just finished dinner at Ellos. Will definitely be back. Tamales (pork and chicken) were excellent as were the tacos (chicken and steak) It's small and warm inside, so it's definitely a good idea to get it to go. And call ahead just in case they get busy.

I dont understand why everyone is complaining about limited seating and bad atmosphere. This is a take out specific hole in the wall taco joint, a great one at that. David started this place with a small gas grill that he manned outside in the parking lot rain or shine and in a year and a half moved himself into a fully functioning kitchen. Doesnt look clean? Check out the multiple perfect health inspection scores he has posted in plain view. Not enough seating? Get it togo and grab a seat at triangle park right down the street. Feel like bitching? Save it and go eat some cloned beef product at taco bell. Want some killer authentic spanish cuisine? Stop by ellos and grab some tacos. You wont be dissapointed.

Ellos! This restaurant began as just a grill in the parking lot and has expanded to include a mobile food cart and a brick-and-mortar location. The tacos are excellent: inexpensive and authentic (you can get American or Latino style) with the option of steak, chicken, or pork. The rice and bean side dishes are tasty and filling. The Puerto Rican-style burrito is a delicious alternative to the nearly Chipotle and benefits from a grilled tortilla wrapping. The owner David is constantly experimenting and adding new menu items, so check their building on S Broadway to see what's being offered. There's isn't much seating inside but there are several patio tables in the front and side lot. The food cart I mentioned above serves most of the menu items and can be found outside Soundbar, Trust, and other downtown bars during prime drinking hours. Ellos at any location really hits the spot for a late-night meal, but is worth trying any time.

A friend told me about Ellos on Broadway and I am so glad she did. I am always in search of authentic tacos in Lexington area and Ello's has the best!!! I had the Corn Tortilla pork "Latin Style" with cilantro and onions. And, I ate three of them!!! DELICIOUS and not expensive at all. I will be back - in fact, have been back three times in only 3 weeks :) You should give it a try - you will love it!

Seriously my favorite restaurant locally. I could, and do, absolutely inhale their tacos. Right now they're business is predominately outside with a barbecue, but it is moving indoors soon. I usually get three tacos and that's more than enough to fill me up. While the selection is varied, the owner is working on vegetarian options. Also, according to the friend who last went with me, it's great food for people with a gluten allergy. For those of us sans allergies, it's just delicious, delicious food at a reasonable price.

Steak tacos and steak tortas and some super hot sauce on the side. Nothing wrong here. We took ours to Country Boy and enjoyed every bite. A gem.

Love this place! Best tacos in town. Don't show up expecting have a sit down meal, it's take out or delivery, they don't have much in the way of seating. The menu is a la cart. I get mine "wildcat" style. The sauces are amazing. Hot is a green sauce with a good amount of kick, and the mild is a red sauce with a lot of flavor and a little heat.

Excellent tacos made fresh to order. A nice option for downtown Lexington eating.

Not too shabby. I haven't been in to the restaurant; but I ordered delivery from them the other night. I ordered rib eye and pork tacos. The pork tacos were tasty; but the rib eye tacos stole the show. Also, the hot sauce is outstanding. If I had a gallon of it, if probably go through the whole thing in about a week. I'll definitely be ordering from here again. Oh I forgot to mention that I had barely hung the phone up and I was getting a call from the delivery guy saying that he was out in front of my house.

  • Emme C.

Each piece of taco is about $2, 3 tacos filled me up. If you're really hungry or have a big appetite, you probably want 5-6 tacos. The taste was authentic but the beef was fatty. Cons: the place was very tiny, there was only one table for about 2-3 people and a couple of benches inside, and also one small table outside. It was hot inside. The owners need to invest to spruce up the restaurant.

If you're searching for fresh authentic tacos in Lexington look no further.. Ellos is simple and good at their game. Do yourself a favor and get 'em "Latino style"- with cilantro and onion. And don't be shy with the homemade sauces.. What Ellos lacks in terms of an air conditioned dining room and cookie cutter service is more then made up for by flavor, freshness and personability. If you've ever found yourself missing the taco trucks of the big city Ellos is your jam..

Two friends and I rolled up during a rainstorm to check out this hole-in-the-wall burrito joint. The burritos were very good--I can vouch for the veggie burrito in particular--and the food was a reasonable value. I understand the charm of a hole-in-the-wall, and am OK with the fact that the place is divey-looking, and looks borderline unclean. I can handle the fact that there's no inside seating, save a tiny bar table which three of us squeezed around. I'm also OK that the staffer messed up our order and charged us for drinks he wasn't supposed to. After all, it was his second day, which he declared with a shrug when I asked for a recommendation (rather than, say, asking one of his co-workers running around). My complaint comes from what happened the moment after he took our order. After I told him I was paying with credit he handed me the iPad and said "how much do you want to tip" with options of 20, 25, 30 and 35 percent. On (presumably) take out. Yes seriously. Perhaps there was an option for "no tip" but that wasn't how it was presented, and in hindsight I should have asked and made sure to tip nothing rather than 20. I'm a generous tipper, and actually always tip on takeout, but it puts a terrible taste in one's mouth to have your hand forced to tip any amount, let alone above industry standard for a full service restaurant, which this isn't. We did end up eating in, and while I don't normally care at all, after tipping 20%, we still had to get our burritos from the counter and bus our own table. I have zero complaints that this is how the business is set up--it makes sense for the space. But I'm left feeling that I was asked to tip 20% for staff to cook me a lovely burrito and give me no service. I don't care that most of your customers are drunk college students, Ellos. It's rude to defy restaurant conventions like that and push them to tip well above the standard rate for no service.

This place is a little hard to find, but it's RIGHT across the street from Wildcat Liquor just past where you cross West Maxwell Street on Broadway going away from downtown. I ate here because: 1. It's close to my house. 2. I wanted to eat authentic Latin food. 3. Myke's review. I has the Latin style steak tacos (pictured here) and they were great. The perfect size to roll up and pop in your mouth with spilling the contents everywhere. They're open late (till 1am Thu-Sat) too. The staff was wicked nice and I'll definitely be back and I'll bring friends with me.

In town for work, found this place on Yelp, and we had a terrific experience!! I needed a salad and they fixed me a fabulous salad (there wasn't a salad on the menu, the staff was just extra helpful).. My colleague had tacos and said they were yummy!! Pros: food, staff, price Cons: limited seating (just get the order to go) Can't wait to go back!

I was visiting from San Diego, Ca around 9-26-2012 and of course use Yelp to direct me to the most recommended places. None of the Lexington Mexican restaurants can come close to what I'm used to. This place - albeit simple and just starting out - is the only place to enjoy an authentic "street taco" just like I can get in Tijuana Mexico. I chose three steak tacos $2 bucks each - Latin style and a Mexican Coke that uses real cane sugar. The soft corn tortilla tacos come with cilantro, onions, and meat. The grilled marinated beef gets this unbelievable crunch and caramelized flavor. You can also get awesome Spanish style rice and black beans. This place will no doubt be successful as they add more items to their menu (Carne Asada Burritos Please :^) Currently the owner grills outside with a few covered tables if you stay to eat. It's rated 100% x2 by city inspectors and is close to having the inside readied for dinning in and growth. They take all cards - even American Express! The owner, a super nice guy, says he has put a Puerto Rican flair to the taste but it is very close to So-Cal South of the border. The pinnacle are the fresh hot sauces...Right On. I will always remember and return here to get my taco on! Parking is a-plenty in the back off Maxwell immediately past S.Broadway & Maxwell intersection. Sure to become a Lexington gem near the college area.

This restaurant has just opened and is still setting up the inside of the restaurant (I visited on the sunny evening of 5/15/12). Meanwhile, the owner is barbecuing in the side parking lot, and that's where he's placed a few tables. Very casual dining arrangements and a limited menu at the moment, but don't hesitate to stop in! I had a soft shell taco with steak, Latin style with cilantro and onions (also offered with tomatoes and onion, etc.), and I had a choice of no sauce, mild or hot. I chose hot - not real hot, just right! The taco was mostly steak pieces, the cilantro was terrific and the amount of onion was just right as an accent. My friend had a chicken taco Latin style, also delicious. Rice is a typical side dish but we didn't have any this visit. The Owner's business card states that his aim for this restaurant is to be "a quick stop and go taco joint." I don't know about quick - this wasn't fast food, already prepped and ready to eat when I went - but the food's great - and cheap. Three tacos and two soft drinks only set me back $8! (Something new to me - you can pay with cash, credit card, or by using the SQUARE app on your phone!) I saw several UK students eating here, should get to be a popular place. Park around the back if you're driving. I recommend giving this place a try. I'm looking forward to seeing how things go when everything is up and running 100%.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
