So, I'm out working on my Royal Enfield in the driveway, and all of a sudden there's a bearded Indian man pulling in on his Enfield(mind you, there are only 3 Enfield motorcycles in the Lexington area). We talk for a while and he invites me to come down to his restaurant some time. It's called Bombay Brazier and it's just around the corner. 2 weeks later, I take my girlfriend over to the restaurant and before I can even sit down, he greets me by name and asks how the bike is. He made a few suggestions on the menu, and we enjoyed some of the best Indian dishes I've ever had(and I used to live with Indian people in Malaysia. I don't to sound cocky, but I think I can recognize quality Indian food by now.) Just go. Rip will treat you well.

Visiting from a big city with lots of good Indian food so I have a good bar to judge from. This was VERY good, highly recommended to anyone looking for great traditional well made Indian food. The couple that runs it have a clean friendly place with great atmosphere, great find when in a small town that has, good, but few choices outside of traditional American cuisine.

Excellent food, we were traveling to KY from NJ and found this great Indian restaurant. Service was a tiny bit slow, but food made up for everything!

I really like this restaurant. Having moved here from the food paradise of the San Francisco Bay Area, I was pleasantly surprised to find a great ethnic restaurant in Lexington. I have been to many Indian restaurants and this one really has very high quality food. A quaint atmosphere with a bit of history (Jefferson Davis once lived in this historic building), reasonable pricing, and lots to choose from have made this one of my favorite spots. If you love spicy and exotic, this is the best in Lex!

The food is very good and the atmosphere is a bit more high end in the Indian restaurant realm of Lexington. With the nicer atmosphere comes a higher price tag. I tend to choose other Indian restaurants in Lexington that have equally as good food at a more reasonable cost.

This is high-end Indian as it should be done. The food here is always amazing and the waiting staff are also very courteous of the patrons. I've enjoyed several meals here ranging from Chicken Tikka Masala to Goat Curry. The Bombay Naan is also super.

Incredible! I love Indian food, and this was the one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever experienced. I highly recommend starting with the Samosa Chaat. So many different ingrediants, textures, flavors, spices, topped on the best samosas I've ever had. I'm used to Tandoori chicken being dry, but theirs was so juicy and flavorful, I was amazed. Tikka Masala was also the best I've ever had. Waitstaff was great, the Chef came out an asked how our meal was, and seemed genuinely interested in our answers. Would definitely come back if I'm ever in Lexington again.

This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants. It is a little pricey, but the food is dependably delicious and you can't beat the eclectic atmosphere. There's also a great wine and alcohol selection, something a lot of Indian restaurants don't seem to offer. Everything I've ordered here has been a winner, I especially love the shahi paneer and the baigan bharta.

I have eaten here twice now. The first time, I was very impressed with my chicken tikka masala. The sauce was excellent and I enjoyed the garlic naan. This was a few months ago, sometime in 2009. My most recent visit about a week ago (in April 2010) left me very disappointed. I got the chicken mango thinking it would be akin to Masala's chicken patia. Alas, it was not. The sauce was very tangy and overly sweet; there was no real flavor to it other than sweetness. There needed to be more chunks of ginger as well. I got tired of eating it about halfway through and a Subway sandwich sounded more appealing. I eat Indian food every weekend with my boyfriend and we both agreed that that night at Bombay Brazier we could have done better cooking Indian food at home for ourselves. My plain naan was okay, but not nearly puffy enough. My boyfriend's garlic naan was also not puffy and had very little flavor. He ordered the chef's special at a medium spiciness, but it came out as mild as my meal, which I ordered 'mild'. The waitress assured him that his meal was made with white meat before he ordered, but it was decidedly dark meat chicken when he got it. I had trouble with the chicken in my meal as well because it had a slimy coating (I think the skin was left on) and I found several pieces of gristle. Overall, after this bad experience with lackluster food at very high prices, I will not be back. I prefer Masala on Harrodsburg Road and, occasionally, Tandoor.

The food is good, at least the only thing I eat from there is good, shrimp tika masala. It's a little higher than other Indian restaurants. I got take out last time but the restaurant is nice. This wasn't my first time eating there and it won't be my last either.

The one star is based on not even eating there. My first impression was it was weirdly quaint, but when i was given a seat in the middle of the room and traffic, I was less impressed. Sat at the bar instead. The food prices appeared a bit overpriced based on other Indian restaurants I've eaten at and they have no single 'thaali' for a solo diner. Figured the high prices meant a lot of food, so I ordered a single dish of baingan - eggplant and chapaati. What I got was a bowl of tomato gravy and the equivalent of taking both your pinky fingers and slicing them into quarter inch pieces of eggplant. And I got 2 plain flour chapaatis. I don't mind $16.00 for one dish, but it should be more than gravy. I didn't order gravy, I ordered eggplant and I got very very little of it. Chapaati should be whole wheat flour, not plain white flour. I didn't eat any of it. I returned it, paid for my wine and left. the wait staff was very apologetic and nice about wanting to fix it, but the taste for Indian food was out of my palate. Robbery plain and simple to charge $16.00 for no real food. Never going back again.

The lack of consistent reviews made me nervous, as did the empty restaurant. The veg tikka masala and garlic naan wew amazing! The waiter was attentive and courteous! I'd recommend this restaurant.

I wanted to check out how this place is and if they have a buffet. There's NO way to reach them, their phone goes unanswered all the time. Way to run a business guys!!! This will get you more customers... Good luck

New owners long waits and our server was super awkward and had no idea how much of a squid he was. Not a good time

My experience was underwhelming. I found a hair in both the samosa and the korma. The naan bread was probably the best thing to offer. The chicken korma sauce was so watery and not very flavorful. The music and ambiance was alittle strange - lots of Michael Jackson. Its in a fantastic location but I don't think I will return.

Decided to try Bombay for our anniversary dinner tonight. It's in one of the older buildings downtown which gives it a more unique charm. It was quiet as we came in early about 4:45pm. As is typical in any Indian restaurant, customer service was perfect. Lots of smiles, very attentive! I had the paneer pakora, garlic naan, and chicken tikka masala. It was all delicious! The pakora was the perfect golden brown. There was more naan served than I was used to. The tikka masala did have a little less chicken than I had hoped but the flavor & heat were perfect! We will definitely come again!

Let's make it clear that thai and Indian food are my staples. I can eat them probably half the days of the month if you give me the chance; almost always at home and I make it myself. But sometimes, it's nice to eat out and Bombay is officially the best Indian restaurant I've eaten at in town so far. Appropriate level of spice comparable to other places I've eaten and a pretty extensive menu to boot. Good service, went on a quiet evening before it got too crowded and it was a good situation. If you're looking for Indian food the way it's meant to be eaten and not dampened for American audiences -- though to be fair, my friend had mild and thought it was excellent too -- then it's a good place to appeal to all sensibilities in and it's in a good location near the main of downtown. I do agree with the others that the prices are probably on par with an Indian restaurant somewhere other than Kentucky, but in general, it's no more expensive than you'd pay to eat at a chain restaurant and the food is much better though the portions aren't as big as you'd get in other parts of the country; but that seems consistent with all of the ethnic restaurants I've eaten at in this town and I suspect it probably just has something to do with people wasting more maybe, I dunno. In any case, Bombay is legit.

Best casual spot in town. Pop in for G&T's and some great curry. They've got it all. The Bollywood music videos on the tele make for a great conversation filler.

I recommended by my mother in law(american) this restaurant the food was awesome, great service as well. I will back again when i come to see my family .great team!! keep it up! cheerrs!!

The food is overpriced and mediocre. This is based on my experience about a couple of days ago. My visit before that was two years ago and the food was great. However, it seems like they have jacked up the prices and reduced the quality. I will say that the staff is friendly, the decor is nice, and the place is well kept. All in all, based only on the food I would give it 3 stars but the unnecessarily high prices warrant only a 2 star experience. There are much better Indian restaurants in Lexington where you will find better food for lower prices.

I am so sad. This was my absolute favorite Indian restaurant in Lexington. I literally would crave the Paneer Tikka Masala. I would never order it anywhere else because it was absolutely perfect here. We went there for the first time tonight after a couple months. Apparently, the restaurant was taken over by the son. Everything has changed. The menu is different - they don't even serve a vegetarian samosa anymore. It is an Indian restaurant!! No samosa?!? And the paneer was bad. It was small and little pieces instead of the nice large even rectangle pieces with a beautiful texture like it used to have. The Tikka Masala sauce was completely different - it used to be perfect. Seriously, Perfect!! I used to say it was the most perfect food on the planet. Now, I couldn't even finish it. It wasn't good. The rice, oddly, was almost the most disappointing. It used to be a lovely basmati rice that was tasty and good textured. Now, it is clumpy and strangely flavored. It was like a cheap sticky rice mixed in. I am beyond sad to give this review because as I said it was my absolutely favorite Indian restaurant.

I was a little worried when i moved to Lexington that i would not be able to find decent Indian food here. No more worries for this guy. I had the keema samosas, and chicken tikka masala. The food was delicious especially the samosas. The chicken tikka masala could have been a little spicier; but besides that was very tasty. The only thing that would have made the experience any better would have been if I didn't have to take out a bank loan to pay the bill. It's definitely pretty pricey. I'll definitely go back once I pay off the loan I took out to cover the tab.

The delicious meal I ate here gets a couple stars knocked off for the following reasons: 1. I ate here alone. When I asked if it was OK to eat alone (why I even asked that is beyond me), the owner said "I can sit and entertain you if you'd like!" and wiggled his eyebrows. As they say in the vernacular, it was totes awks. 2. My paneer tikka masala cost $14. Nothing on the menu cost less than this. How is it feasible to charge this much for casual Indian in a Kentucky college town?! That's expensive for DC! Even naan was $3. 3. General lack of beverage attention to detail. I ordered, but never received, a Diet Coke, and no amount of pleading eye contact could attract the server's attention when my water glass was empty. All of that said, though, it was a damn good Indian meal.

In one review someone referred to an opulent interior. Huh?! Stained ceiling tiles and unapologetically-fake plants. Perhaps the reviewer was from the backwoods. Good food at fair prices. Great wait staff. --Thomas

These guys are serious about their spice. Level 7 (out of ten) is a little too much for me which isn't usually the case. I like a pleasant surprise like that and was ready to fall for Bombay right there. But... This is a nicer/dressier restaurant, but I don't know if the food is deserving of the atmosphere and decor...This review, for now, is only based on the one experience I had but to be fair I did try two dishes: the Tikka Masala and the Vindaloo. The chicken in both dishes just tasted slightly off. The prices matched the ambiance and most entrees were in the $12-$16 range which would be fine if the quality followed suit, but not the case for this first experience here.

Outstanding food, great service and fun place to eat. We ordered a random assortment of entrees and breads, and asked that everything cater to a vegan diet. I cannot remember the names of the individual dishes, one was eggplant based, another chickpeas and the third was cauliflower. I have no complaints on any of it, excellent spice level and full of flavor. Can't wait to go back! Cheers!

Absolutely wonderful food. Some of the best Indian food we have ever eaten (and we love Indian food!!). The spice was perfect, the service was friendly, the food was delicious and flavorful with perfect portion sizes. Full bar, which was great- we tried one of their specialty drinks that was recommended by the staff which was great. The atmosphere was very cool, and felt quite authentic. We wish we were there right now!! :)

This was an excellent choice. The service was friendly and very helpful. The food was quick and the best Indian food I have had. The staff was great about providing a recommendation based on my request. Definitely recommend this restaurant. The price for the quality of food is a good bargain. The decor was romantic and is true experience.

Had a dinner here last Wednesday night as we were passing through. I've had a lot of Indian food, and can cook it well at home, and we are spoiled by the variety we get at home in Vancouver. The food was good but pretty basic, and the price was high for the quantity we got. But all in all it was a reasonable meal.

Um, gross. Ordered chicken tikka masala, gobi manchurian, and garlic naan for dinner takeout. The tikka masala tasted and looked like tomato soup from a can. The gobi manchurian was greasy, but tasted fine I guess despite the fact is was burnt in places. Oh and it cost nearly $40.

Best Indian food in Lexington, by far. Indian is my favorite ethnic cuisine, and I have never tasted chicken tikka masala this good outside London, England. I get my chicken tikka masala cravings every couple months and when I do I go to Bombay, even though there are two Indian restaurants that are much closer to my home. The Nan is also quite good.

A high-end Indian place thats not too expensive. I love Bombay, the food is authentic, and they have levels of spiciness. They probably will not serve you "Indian spicy" on your first visit, and thats ok because it is really spicy at a bout a medium level. There is a good bar selection and Indian beers too. You can go cheap and get naan and some sauce, or go all out and get a full meal. Patio is perfect for nice days.

Had dinner here tonight (I guess last night) and it was fantastic. The service was great. We never wanted or needed for anything. They were so quick too, I didn't even notice them refilling my water glass, but it never emptied! We ordered the lamb rogan josh and the chicken tikka masala, and both were amazing. The sauces were creamy and not too thin and the meat was excellently tender and juicy. The basmati was perfection and the naan was simple and tasty and effective. Overall, I would certainly go back and try more dishes. Highly recommended.

I absolutely love this place. Great food, fantastically nice staff. The food is very authentic - and higher end fare than other local Indian restaurants. The prices are reasonable, the decor is very nice. All in all - there isn't anything I don't like about Bombay Brazier. You're in good hands w/ this place, and you'll be fan after one visit.

I went to this place years ago when it was still called the Bombay Brazier, and it was excellent. It seems to be under new management or ownership, and now everything about the Bombay Grill is bad. I phoned in an order and was told that it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. I arrived 25 minutes later, and the man who passed himself off as the new owner or manager said it would be another 5 minutes, and we did not actually receive our food until 50 minutes after placing the order. It was 7pm and the restaurant was not busy (my wife and I were literally the only customers). We paid when the order came out, and were then told that this was only part of the order, and that the naan was almost ready. I asked why the young man at the register why they hadn't cooked it 45 minutes ago when we ordered it, and he merely shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't know what goes on in the kitchen." When we demanded our money back for the naan so we could leave, he refused and then retreated into the kitchen, returning 5 minutes later with the naan. No one apologized for our wait or offered to do anything to make up for it. After all that trouble, the food was was not even good. They told us they were out of paneer, beer, and chicken. The Bombay naan was flavorless and overcooked. The mango chicken was cloyingly sweet, and they had obviously used hours-old (maybe days-old) leftover tandoori chicken that was as tough as jerky (we got the very last of the chicken). The veg korma tasted exactly like Campbell's condensed cream of broccoli soup, and the vegetables were so overcooked you could mash them with a spoon.
