Two stars for the view and the cold beer. It's the sort of place where the crab is fake, the fruit is out of a can and the answer to "what local beers do you have?" is "Sam Adams". Crab cake was all breading and salt. Crab salad was fake crab and mayonaise. Fried banana peppers were solid.

Based on the mixed reviews and the fact I didn't see any other food options around I decided to give this place a try. I visited at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon and the place wasn't very busy. I was immediately seated and got a drink. So far so good but the rest of the visit wasn't very memorable. The servers aren't very attentive or efficient at their jobs. Many tables stayed dirty with hardly any patrons around. I think they spent more time talking amongst themselves than waiting on the customers and keeping the place clean. I got a southern catfish dinner. The cole slaw was promptly served and was pretty good. It has an ever so slight hint of heat probably from the horseradish mentioned in another review. The portions were uninspired for the pricing. The catfish was decent and helped by the creole dipping sauce. The sweet corn was straight forward. The hush puppies were nice but small. Once I got my food I was practically forgotten and had to wait a long time for refills and my check. The inner decor was a throwback to 90s cheese and the music was some light pop. What I would expect I guess. Needless to say I wasn't overly impressed and won't make an effort to stop again.

Do not waste your time, or money here. Has really declined since last visit. Grilled seafood platter was lukewarm, mashed potatoes from a box, and the southern catfish was only 1 piece so so for 11.99. I think they could be a little more generous with the portions for the prices, and they could give you more than 2 hush puppies. The decor is very old, worn, and needs up dating.

New owners. It's a lot better than it used to be.

Ill start off with Bad, then the Good. Don't expect fast service, but we had an excellent waiter. I am a local (been here many times) and I have always thought, this place needs UPDATING BADLY. Other than the pretty view of the river, that's about all the pretty there is. My salad was not very fresh, but I ate it. But other than that, My entree was so so YUMMY! I got the grilled swordfish. And it was divine. So juicy and perfectly seasoned. I have to say, food was better than Joe's Crabshack!! The white fish will just melt in your mouth, and the shrimp skewer was large and really good. We will go back but not often. Try the gumbo.

My mother-in-law and I went for dinner tonight at Jim's Seafood in Frankfort. Normally, I hit Jim's about twice a year if I have an all-day meeting in the area on business, and I've been going to Jim's since I was a kid. I guess I never really noticed just how big a flaming pile of fail the place could be. The service tonight was slow. We sat for a good 20 minutes before the poor weeded server could take our drink order - the three manager/owner types didn't help spread the load for the two servers dealing with a packed house, including an impromptu party of 18. Then it was another fifteen before she could take the appetizer and dinner order. The food was okay, and it did come out still hot, so that was a mercy. Ten minutes after we'd finished eating, we were able to get the check and be on our way. But the evening got worse from then on out. As we went to leave, my car just would. not. start. Not for love nor money. So, my mother-in-law calls my sister-in-law and I go back inside the restaurant to ask for help, or if need be, let them know that I may need to leave my car there overnight. No can do, I'm told. I can't leave the car there overnight, and if I do it anyway, well, it might just be impounded. Oh, and they're not responsible for anything that happens to my car, since there's housing projects nearby and it's all scary and stuff. So two women sat alone in the dark in my car, across from the horribly scary housing projects calling for help and trying to get a battery jump or a tow truck as the restaurant turned off their lights and the frickin' parking lot lights without a care in the world that two of their customers could be stranded. In fact, they acted like it was a horrible inconvenience to them that we weren't gone already. EPIC. FREAKIN'. FAIL. Luckily, my attempts to start the car must've done something, because we did get it to start. I drove my mother-in-law home with the promise that I would never suggest Jim's to her again. Since Jim's thinks so little of my business or my safety, I don't think I'll be visiting them again either.

Whatever Queen Ynci the Short Tempered. With a self proclaimed nickname like that it's no surprise you are slamming this place. I'd be surprised if you ever said anything nice about anyone in your life. Jim's is a wonderful place with good food, a great view, and that at-home family atmosphere that is lacking in most places these days!! I was only in Kentucky for a week, visiting some friends and we ate there two days in a row!!! To be able to sit outside and watch the Kentucky River flow by while enjoying an appetizer of raw oysters and a few cold beers, is a real treat. Everything we ate was fresh and delicious and the service was excellent; the owner / manager even came around to see how everything was. Talk about class! Hands down, I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for that authentic Kentucky feel paired with a hardy meal and a great time!

My husband & I shared the white fish & coconut shrimp(dip in piña colata), it was so good! We also had the fried green tomatoes, very good! The view of the Ohio River was spectacular ! The ice tea was the best in KY. What a great birthday supper.

I wanted this place to be a five star review for me, sadly it was not. First, the good things. The girls working there were great. They were funny, knowledgeable about the offerings, and prompt with service, especially with keeping my drink filled which you all know by now is the main thing I care about. It is the employees that get this place the two stars that I'm offering. The bad. The food wasn't even so so, it was very bland. I have actually had better fish at a chain restaurant and you all know that i despise chains! The toast on my buddy's sandwich was burnt, they didn't have about a third of the things on the menu (they told us it was because of the 127 Yard Sale being that weekend and they hadn't received their truck delivery yet however with everything else in just going to have to say this is how it usually is), and the interior decor is awful... so bad in fact that it literally made the meal and experience worse than it probably actually was. They need to update the interior, add flavor to their fish, and either keep their offerings in stock or reduce the offerings on their menu. I wish them the best of luck.

Great view, but the service is horrible. My partner and I ordered drinks at the same time. They served me a beer in a can... Yes, a can; her mixed drink arrived about 20 minutes later. We have been here at least 45 minutes waiting on our entree. I might come back for a drink, but never for a meal.

Good variety, serving sizes, quality , beautiful view and prices ! My favorite items are the fried green tomatoes , clams, gumbo and clam chowder . There are many other items that are wonderful, too. The servers are efficient and friendly . For those that do not care for seafood, they have steaks and chicken . A lighter fare of Salads and sandwiches are also offered.

Spending the night in Frankfort and found this restaurant on the internet plus recommended by an employee of Buffalo Trace. My friend and I ordered the Bourbon Glazed Salmon which was drastically overcooked and tough. My Brussels sprouts were barely cooked. My husband's mashed potatoes were so stiff this his fork stood straight up. He also ordered the key lime pie which was green...key lime pie is not green. Will not return and not recommend !

Great view! Seafood was frozen. They would not honor a coupon for 1/2 price appetizers. Don't waste your time. It would be a great place to film a 70s video

The food was good but the catfish strip dinner didn't seem like it had enough catfish

Gross, gross, gross. Do not order salad or anything raw at this place. Probably only safe with something fried. Only thing about this place is the view, it's nice. The waiter gave us a menu before we sat down and asked us if we wanted an appetizer, Ummm we haven't even seen the menu yet! Pretty much everything is fried, I ordered a shrimp cocktail which came at the same time as my salad. My sister order a fried fish plate with was below average but edible. I ordered a shrimp salad which was horrible and I only ate 2 bites, the shrimp appeared to be spoiled. Don't eat here go eat fast food over this.

I'm giving Jim's Seafood two stars for the view. What makes for a "waterfall" in Kentucky is the backdrop for this establishment. Located in the capital city of Frankfort, I at least hoped that this would be some good down home cooking. I was sadly mistaken. I had the salmon with green beans and rice pilaf. The green beans were probably frozen and then mixed with the fatty parts of bacon (it didn't work). The salmon was pretty good. The seasoning seemed to mask something though (yikes). Then there was the rice that was underwhelming (it was far from a pilaf). At the prices that they charged, I feel like they just took our money. I must say that I won't visit here again, and I cannot in good conscience recommend this place to anyone else. Sorry Jim... take a lesson from Gordon Ramsey and start using fresh ingredients!!

A pretty dang good little seafood place down by the river. I've been by it several times, but never gone in until today. I went down there for lunch, and one thing I noticed right away is it has an outstanding view of the Kentucky River. Once inside, it's apparent that the dining rooms are built specifically to show off this view. There is outdoor seating overlooking the river, but on this very rainy day that wasn't an optioni. The service was decent. Drinks were refilled promptly, and the server was polite and efficient. I did notice the clientele trends towards the middle aged and elderly when I was there (midday for lunch). I was clearly the youngest person seated there. Did not change the quality one bit, but it made me wonder slightly about bringing small children there. The food itself was actually quite nice. I had the lunch special and unsweetened iced tea, which was a fried whitefish sandwich with fries and cole slaw. The slaw itself was served first, and had a good texture (not too dry, not too soupy) and flavor. I detected a little hint of horseradish in the slaw. The sandwich was flavorful, and for being fried was definitely not too greasy. The french fries were typical crinkle-cut fries, nothing special, but they were warm and not soggy. This entire meal came out to $11, with gratuity. It was a fair price to pay. The entire place reminds me of the kind of places my family ate at when I was a kid.

Very disappointing. Beautiful view of the river and service was slightly below average. Some of the food was ok and other things we ordered were really disgusting. For instance, the calm chowder was ok but not what I consider really good. The raw oysters were plain scary!!! Some were discolored and were served somewhat warm, not served over a bed of ice.We probably would have been happier with a fried fish sandwich. We made the mistake of ordering other items, such as clams and shrimp scampi. The mashed potatoes looked and tasted like they had been reheated from last week. Not the quality I expected when we dropped over a $100 on lunch. My family and I eat at restaurants often and we were all very disappointed. Definitely stop by to see the Dam, its a nice view, thats why I'm giving it two stars. I'm being kind. But I'd eat someplace else next time or just order a fried fish sandwich if I wanted to gamble on a decent or bad experience.

Jim's is FANTASTIC! I have never had a bad experience here. Great food, great location, great view, great staff. Really, what more could you ask for. Any time I am anywhere near Jim's I go out of my way to go there.

All I can say is Not a good dining experience! My husband made reservations for Valentines Day Dinner to surprise me. We got there and they did not have our reservation we order the special for $40.00 you got two salads, steak and lobster or prime rib and 8 shrimp, and 2 desserts. Well the salad came out of a bag and was about two days past expiration. The steak was as thin as paper and fatty and had to send the lobster back! I could have had more meat on a shrimp. Second one was better but the butter was as hard as a rock for dipping. My husband had the shrimp and there was only 5 not 8. They would not give him the other 3???? And we went to order dessert and some other waitress came by and literally threw two small strawberries dipped in chocolate in front of us and walked off. This was the dessert! And they were as big as your thumb nail. We tried to buy a dessert but every one we asked for was gone and it was only 6:00pm. We will NEVER go back, what a waste of money and time.

I really love Jim's Seafood! It's one of the few historical restaurants that has survived this great city. Jim's has a gorgeous view of the Kentucky River, outdoor seating, tasty fish and a family feel. I love it!

It was ok, but not great. My husband loved his scallops and the portions were huge, but the dinner salad had rusty lettuce and wilted leaves of something, spinach, maybe. The service was slow, especially considering they were not busy. We had to watch while the cashier and a waitress settled up her tips before they could seat us. The calimari was good, but a bit bland. The prices were quite good. I would return, but not right away.

I've been going to Jim's seafood for most of my life and have always loved it! I moved out of KY now, but last time I was visiting family at home we didn't even talk about where we were going to dinner - my dad just drove straight to Jim's! I especially love the fried banana peppers and special sauce!
