True, not many options in the area and I was hesitant about going to this place but man was it good! I had the tacos and someone else said on here that they didn't have any flavor. They are crazy, the tacos I ate were delicious! It was plenty of food and tasted very fresh. The place itself seems kind of hipster-ish, I guess that goes with the territory being that it's in the gorge. Supposedly they have A great beer and wine selection as well but I didn't get to try any of it...and I'm really upset now knowing they had carrot cake...RRRRRRAAH!

We were in the Red River Gorge area and wanted someplace nice to eat dinner instead of trying to cook in our cabin. Based upon several recommendations and the reviews on Yelp, we went to the Red River Rockhouse. We had been told that it was an old house that had been converted into a restaurant, so I was expecting a two-story number; so, when we passed it on the side of the road it took me awhile to realize that it was our destination as it looked more like an old gas station than a house. The parking lot is very small. We ordered the chips and salsa for an appetizer and we both ordered the burritos, my companion ordered the chicken and me the barbacoa as I absolutely love the barbacoa burritos at Chipotle. I ordered mine with everything. Well, there was so little sour cream in my burrito that I finally saw some. The burritos were huge and filling, but very dry. They needed some type of sauce or salsa for moisture if nothing else. They tasted really good and were very spicy but were dry dry dry. I can't say much for the chips and salsa as they were just average at best. When it comes to Mexican and Tex-Mex food, I'm very picky. If we were to return, I think I'd try the burgers as those I saw delivered to a nearby table looked really good.

Our favorite in Gorge. Come as you are. Hiking attire is welcome. My favorite veggie burger of anywhere, & my husband loves the cheeseburger. Both the sweet potato & regular French fries also delicious. We've also had the burritos. Delicious & HUGE! We appreciate that they use local ingredients, as well. You won't be disappointed!

Hands down my favorite dining option in the Gorge. The food is superb, and I appreciate the emphasis on fresh, local ingredients. The BLT (with the addition of avocado) is my go-to order, but I love their burgers and burritos as well. One of the best parts of this restaurant is their location - since they are in Wolfe County, they can sell wine/beer. Their craft beer selection isn't the most extensive, but for eastern KY, it's pretty impressive. On a nice night, their patio can't be beat. Great place to follow up a hike!

Great food, great vibe, and hawt climbing servers! After a long day out, we stuffed our bodies with burritos, tacos, and guac. The special barbacoa tacos with manchengo were awesome! The burrito was, as previously described, as large as a small child. Definitely a great stop after a long cold day of hiking and climbing.

Fantastic. Cannot believe this place is in Wolfe County. Myself, my wife and some friends of ours had just finished a hike at the gorge and needed a meal. This place was recommended and we were happy it was. My wife had a burrito, I had a bacon cheese burger with grilled onions. Only good things to say from us. If you're in the area, you have to go!

Try their shirts/ tanks. Most shirts I buy on a trip never get worn again. I got a tank and the boyfriend got a tee shirt. We both love the fit and material. On to the food. We started with chips, red salsa and guac. Delicious! I normally do not care for guacamole. Theirs is chunky with great flavor. You can really taste the freshness of the ingredients used in both the guac and salsa. I ordered the BLT. The sandwich was loaded with crispy bacon. I am very picky about my bacon. :) We went there again before we left and I had the cheese burger. It may be the best I've ever had. Also, try the root beer and Dr. Better, both were phenomenal.

Very good. Interesting theme, with locally sourced food that isn't the typical stuff from a box. Nice, clean, tasty, hard to ask for much more. Oh, and it's not a chain! Yay! The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is the tip policy. You're prompted to tip when you pay, prior to being served. I object to this on principle, I guess. A nice fat tip should be given because your food and service were great, not added on before hand. So, that came across as a smidge arrogant to me, and it made a number of people in our party feel slightly awkward. Really, as a business you should be going out of your way to make your clients feel at home, not uneasy. I wouldn't have mentioned it, but the others in our party felt similarly about it, so thought it worth pointing out. Again, for the record, I try to be a generous tipper, it was just that the policy here caught me off guard and felt weird. The A/C was a little overwhelmed when we were there and it could have been cooled better in the eating area. I only mention these little things as minor nitpicks so that they have some feedback if they read their reviews. The burgers were very good, the carrot cake was absolutely, positively delicious. A solid 4.5 / 5, but Yelp won't let me give another half star. If they fixed the A/C and handled tips more appropriately, a 5. We were lucky enough to run into a local guy who clued us into RRR, and everyone was glad he pointed us this way. I recommend these guys, and I'd go back again for sure.

Had one of the best hamburgers I've ever eaten here...and I've had many a hamburger. Super fresh...just the right amount of grease. My son had a burrito the size of a hog leg, that was excellent too. IMO, the best place to eat in the area.

After a 12 mile hike we were sweaty, dirty, tired, thirsty and STARVING. It was also pouring down rain so going back to camp to cook out was out of the picture. With a hope and a prayer I looked on yelp to see if there was some way we could find decent food and a beer in what seemed like the middle of nowhere. We chose Red River Rockhouse based on the reviews that said people came as they were- because we were pretty special at the time. I would say the one downfall of this place is the lack of atmosphere. If it was sunny the outdoor patio would be nice. It is a very simple shotgun restaurant where you order at one end and though a doorway are tables. Regardless, we were happy to be in and out of the rain. The people working here clearly knew the menu and how to sell it. After they explained our options we opted for a cheeseburger, sweet potato fries and BEER. The food came out quickly and was clearly made to order. Everything was delicious. Another great thing about this place is they clearly take pride on using local products and humanely raised meats. So if you find yourself dirty and hungry stop on in to Red River Rockhouse- they will take you as you are!

I stumbled into this place on a recent trip down to Natural Bridge. We ended up splitting a couple tacos, chips, and guacamole; and chased that with a couple beers. Overall, the food was outstanding, the service was excellent, and the price was right. I was particularly happy with the fresh ingredients in the tacos and guac.

Great burger joint! Keep going down Rt 11, will seem like you're lost but it'll show up on your left.

This place was perfect... even Sasha DiGiulian thinks so (she was there too)! Being my first time to climb in the Red, I went straight to Yelp to find out just exactly where we should eat after a day's climb. This was close to, if not the, number one place. The place is staffed by climbers so imagine loads of beautiful, strong, and healthy climbers, that are happy to serve you their favorite IPA on draft and side of guacamole and chips. The burger was the clear winner from a food perspective, but the atmosphere was certainly right up there. We were there on Halloween so all the servers were decked out in costume, hopefully because they were all on their way to a party after the place closed. Almost all the patrons were climbers or hikers, or somehow enjoying the outdoors. Noone had even considered to go home and change into 'going out' clothes. We all just came as is, with our winter hats, gloves, and soaked/muddy shoes. No one even bat an eye. But it was equally as good of a place for a table of 18 people to eat, who were all dressed up and likely in the area for a wedding. It was so good, we came back the second day!

This place is pretty bomb. As much as I love Miguel's it's also nice to have a place like this to stop by. They're food is excellent. The burgers were fresh and savory. Hand rolled and seasoned. The sweet potato fries are a must have. I loved how well they were cooked. If you're going to go for the burrito be warned its pretty huge. You could feed two with that baby sized bad boy. They have locally crafted beers and fresh cucumber and lemon available for free. The staff was also pretty awesome. We came at an awkward time and they were about to change the board over from breakfast to lunch. They were nice enough to offer us the option between the two. Haven't had breakfast here yet but I'm sure it's great.

Fabulous grass-fed beef hamburgers, burritos, tacos... and an amazing craft brew selection. This is the place to eat while in the Red River Gorge area.

After a long day of hiking or climbing this is a great place to grab a burger and a beer. The staff is very friendly, the service quick, the restaurant is clean and just an overall great place to eat. Gotta check out the desserts.

We'll start this review the same way we start our meals, with the appetizer. The chips are fresh and we'll done. The salsa and guacamole are wonderful as well. The first time I went I got a bacon cheeseburger which was nice, but someone at my table got fish tacos that left me green with envy. They were a special item that particular day and when I came back the next day they were no longer available. They were big and the ingredients looked fresh and the fish smelled wonderful. If fish tacos are available when you visit I recommend you give them a shot. I settled for a burrito when I couldn't get fish tacos, I was pretty happy with it. It was huge. After eating chips I could hardly finish it and it's fresh and tasty fillings.

I had a lovely experience at Red River Rockhouse. The food was fresh and much of it is locally sourced. The veggie burger that I ordered was homemade and was among the better ones I've had. My lunch companion's beef burger was good. Both of our fries (sweet potato for me and regular for her) lacked crispness, which is only a minor complaint in the big scheme of things. The Nutella brownie that we split for dessert was delicious and made by Martine's Pastries in Lexington, according to the staff member we asked. I secretly wanted the carrot cake (made in-house) but there was only one slice left in the display case and I feared it would be stale. Folks around us were enjoying burritos, which I plan on ordering next time. They looked to be griddled on a flat-top. Staff was hospitable and efficient. The restaurant is utterly charming and quaint. It is a very comfortable place to spend an hour or so and re-fuel.

great food and great atmosphere! the hamburgers were juicy and delicious! we got 2 root beers but one of them tasted terrible and must have been old... ew. other than that, great! would defiantly visit again!

The restaurant is in an unassuming house off of the road. Inside, the place had a Colorado theme. The menu was written on a chalkboard, and had a limited number of items, but all looked appealing. I had a good burrito, our party also had good sandwiches (BLT, burger). Also, we had good fresh guacamole with newly-made chips. If you are staying in the area with your family, there are a limited number of choices unaffiliated with the climber's camp. This is a good choice. Also, they had a nice outdoor seating area!

  • Ben S.

There aren't a lot of food options at the Red river gorge. There are even fewer that serve beer, and I don't know of any other that has local micro beer. Throw it all together and we have a winner. I came here twice in my two days at the Red and had the vegetarian burrito both times. It was tasty, filling and good. In general they could have used more green chili sauce on the burrito but that is a minor complaint. The chips and salsa were pretty tasty as well. They also have copies of the climbing and hiking guides that you can look at and a decent free wifi connection.

  • Amanda H.

What a refreshing change of pace for this area! Locally sourced food, very little deep-fried anything, and a passionate and attentive staff. Clean, IKEA-inspired decor, worth the wait if there is a line.

  • T C.

There are very few places in the area to eat so we decided to try this. Mistake ! We got dry tacos that were flavorless. I had asked for sour cream and the guy who brought it said it was "inside". Negative ! There was no sour cream. The guacamole was decent though. Overall a very poor experience. Why does this town have so few restaurants ? It's a travel destination ?

A staple of the gorge, a must have when nearby! Food is great, beef and cheese are local, whiskeys are pricey but they're premium and heaven after a long weekend! The staff is very friendly and welcoming just like everyone in the area. Great times!

I will sound a familiar Yelp refrain in stating that I "really wanted to like this place," but a couple of drawbacks prevented me from doing so wholeheartedly. On a lonely stretch of Highway 11 a few miles south of Natural Bridge State Park, the Red River Rockhouse has charm to spare. From the road, it looks like it might be a rough-and-tough roadhouse, which might have been great in its own right (and which it might have in fact been at one time). But inside is a relaxed little cafe with minimalistic, natural, almost Nordic decor. The small-ish menu features simple, inexpensive, appealing items (burgers, sandwiches, etc.) prepared with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, and there is a surprisingly good beer list (the Rockhouse is just over the Wolfe County line from dry Powell County, home to the state park and Red River Gorge). But despite the best intentions of the owners, there were some rough spots here. The service was quite friendly, but the wait for our very simple food was absurdly long. Even though the restaurant was only about half full, it took more than a half-hour for our orders to come out. I'm not lying when I say that it looked as though the kitchen was sending out only two plates of food every five minutes. As for the food itself, it did seem very fresh. The braised pork in my tacos was delicious--well-seasoned and juicy--but the corn tortillas immediately broke in half, apparently because they weren't griddled or otherwise heated, so I was left with a basket full of busted-up tortillas to fork-and-knife my way through. The wife reported that her veggie burrito was only OK--filled with fresh ingredients, but a little lackluster. We also had an order of sweet-potato fries; they were quite good. I can see that the Red River Rockhouse could warrant these five-star reviews on a given night, but it unfortunately did not on the night we were there. We will be back the next time we are at the Gorge, though.

I did not eat here but attended a rock climbing film premier for Reel Rock Tours. They said arrive around 9, raffle at 9:30, movie at 10 pm. My friends and I arrived at 9:15 to a pack and disorganized house. There was a pre advisory to come early because seats fill up and if they do bring your own chair. We brought chairs but because of the disorganization of tables and people there was not a single place to put them.I asked if there was somewhere we could sit and was told go get comfortable with someone I can't help you. A simple moving of the diner tables to one section of the room and lining the chairs up would have greatly improved the seating and viewing. We ended up standing in the corner the entire 2 hr movie premier with the television partially blocked by a wall and someone's pouffy hair. My friend and I paid for 2 raffle tickets to be nice and give a little extra for donation online. Then arrived got our raffle tickets, were only given one, when it turns out everyone else got 1 ticket per $5. No big deal until we found out every single item was awarded to someone in the audience the raffle guy knew. Out of 100 or more people this guys 20 friends got all the goods. The reason I write this review is because 1. I am a little upset with giving my money to partially watch a movie and watch some guy give all his buddies the cool stuff and 2. If the premier was run like this I am sure the business is run the same. For example if your food was dropped in the kitchen it might be picked up and still served?

Just had breakfast there this morning before heading home from an awesome camping trip in the Red River Gorge. The food is so clean and fresh and locally sourced and antibiotics, hormone amd steroid free for the ppl that eat meat. I was so pleasantly surprised to find this gem. I wish we had this Cafe at home in Baltimore!!

Awesome place with a cool, laid back atmosphere. I had the bacon cheeseburger and it was great! My wife had the chicken burrito (I had to eat some off it because it was huge) and she loved it. If you're in the area, stop in. You won't be disappointed.

Ok so once again I have discovered another place high in the mountains where you can gorge yourself with great food, great service, as well as low prices. The place is situated in the Natural Bridge/Red River area...which is great since it can help nourish those hikers, climbers, kayakers, and anybody else back to health with their huge portions of good food after a long day. Red River has a pretty good selection of food to choose from: burritos, burgers, and other tasty treats. I ordered a mammoth beef burrito( you can get chicken or pork) full of a bunch of ingredients which can satisfy even the hungriest appetite, including mine. Meals are prepared right in front of you on the grills which is a pretty neat touch since you can actually carry on your conversation with the cooks/workers...which again is awesome since you can get into some deep convos with these guys. Give this place a shot and don't pass it up or you will regret it.

What a great place to find in what should be the middle of nowhere with only a pancake house and your cooler, nearby. We both special ordered the breakfast burrito and it all came out correct, on time, and delicious! It was Memorial Day weekend at 8:45 (they just opened) and they were packed so I'm very impressed. The breakfast burrito was good-sized and stuffed with eggs, black beans, potatoes, peppers, onions, spinach, and your choice of red or green chile sauce. Just the thing for campers, hikers, and rockclimbers about to start a long day! STRONG coffee and fresh oj topped us off. The atmosphere is cute, clean, great music playing overhead and not too loud. We played a little Scrabble from a collection of available games while we waited. We will be back again any time we're nearby!

Red River Rockhouse is an adorable, rustic, family friendly restaurant located in the heart of the gorge. Quite a great find after a strenuous day of climbing to relax and refuel. They offer local & farm fresh American food that will give you the energy you need. They are sustainable and super environmentally friendly, so you can feel good supporting them! Food: A twist on all the American favorites. Local and organic ingredients used whenever possible. Menu items such as pork/potato pancakes, omelet's, chipotle burritos, grass fed burgers with shitake mushrooms, tacos, and chips and guacamole to name a few. Tons of options, and plenty that are kid friendly! Drinks: Soda, Izze sparkling juice, draft and bottled beers Service: This is a place where you can visit once and already feel like a regular. The staff is extremely friendly, attentive, and has super quick service. Perfect for a hungry bunch of climbers! Ambiance: Rockhouse is a charming restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating options. The décor is rustic with a unique twist - local photographer prints of nature line the walls, and each table and chairs is a little different than the next. The uniqueness gives it a truly warm and homey feeling, rather than a cookie cutter restaurant. It's also a nice spot to meet other people who also enjoy the outdoors and exchange stories! Definitely a must try hotspot for any climbers in the area! I promise you will leave feeling strong, healthy, full, and happy (especially knowing all the ingredients are quality and the restaurant is sustainable!)

Awesome burger and fries in a neat little house! The beef was local and ASH free, the fries were from real potatoes, and a good selection of microbrews and sodas. I had a burger with the spicy cheese that was absolutely melt in your mouth. Free wifi and a great spot to come after a day outside. The burritos were huge and are on my list to try next. Definitely worth a trip back.

Every item is delectable and the staff are incredibly down to earth and friendly. Fresh, Local, Organic, Vegan, Crazy good Fries, All that on the same menu. Huge portions for a reasonable price. Make it your first meal at the red and you will be back Daily. Guaranteed!! Cant wait to come back. - NY Amy

The service was super fast! I had a cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger was excellent but the fries were soggy and greasy and they didn't taste very good. There wasn't much to choose from on the menu. You were either getting a burger, burrito, or taco. Also, the hours listed for the restaurant are not correct. They don't open until 3PM six out of seven days of the week!!!

What a perfect atmosphere, just what the Red needs! The food is local and top quality DELICIOUS and even though they ate constantly slammed busy the staff is still super friendly! Highly recommend the guacamole burger and the potatoe pancakes!!

This place has been around for almost a year and it got a considerable amount of attention from locals and tourists alike. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and all the ingredients are from local farms, so you know you are eating organic, steroid and hormone-free food. There is actually a board in the corned that is entitled "Where your food comes from" and it lists 6 local farms. It is also one of the few places that actually has a modest selection of beer, compared to a variety of dry places around. The atmosphere is rustic and the 4 female local frequents say that its very "chill, relaxed and cool" in there. When I asked about the quality of food they simply replied "Love it". I take it as a sign that this place is really worth travelers' attention!

This restaurant provides a rustic and authentic experience right in the heart of Natural Bridge State Park. With a wonderful tea selection and fantastic burritos this is a good stop to get some food and drink in Natural Bridge. The staff is top notch by not only being personable but providing quality and consistent service. The Red River Rockhouse provides an authentic touch that you cannot receive at any ole chain restaurant. The prices did seem a bit high to me but the portions were pretty big, so you are getting what you pay for. If you are in this area definitely consider trying this place out!

This is one rustic and cozy cafe on the road in Wolfe county. My friends and I dropped by this place today and I really liked it. It is friendly and comfortable. The staff are very warm and helpful. My friend, Jamar, ordered a beef sandwich and he was amazed by the its size and how delicious it was. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the prices are moderate. By the way, they have different kinds of beer.

Is that a mirage I see?? Nope it's real!! Out here in the woods of Kentucky! What a jewel! OK, were not talking about a fancy 5 start gourmet restaurant with condescending waiters ready to sweep your table after each course, but let me tell you - this place is as good as it gets out in these woods!! We spent most of our vacation eating here. We tried a few other places in the area, but nothing compared. Nothing even came remotely close!! Local farm fresh food, simple flavors, made to order, veggie options, and friendly service. If that doesn't keep you coming back, I'm not sure what would. OH YEAH - they have BEER. Did you read that - yep you did - THEY HAVE BEER!!! Some people might say, Oh big deal - but in the dry counties around believe me IT IS!! The owner is very welcoming and made sure everything was to our liking. Even on a SUPER busy night (I'm talking major line out of the door here) over memorial weekend - they did their best to keep us subdued with fries and such till our order could be made. He even talked this veggie gal into eating an order of his fish tacos - and let me tell you, they were AWESOME! Well worth the cheat ;) I also had made to order breakfast burritos each day and even though they were busy that weekend, each one was made exactly as I asked. I tried the veggie burger a few nights in a row with different toppings - very good for sure. Also recommend the kale salad!! You should save room for the carrot cake too - so worth every single lickable calorie! They do have specials each night and for brunch, and I suggest you try them. A lot of love goes into their food for sure! They have free Wifi too and the place is super cute inside! Do yourself a favor and check this place out. You can thank me later ;) Thanks RRR for making our vacation a little tastier!! *hint hint - hoping for in the future - more amazing veggie options - fries cooked like they were when you were super busy - they were cooked just right. Slightly over cooked on the slower nights.

This is a great place to come to if your at Natural Bridge or the Red River Gorge. Here, they offer many menu items made with ingredients that won't be found at any restaurant in the area! However I kept it simple today. I had a burger with bacon and egg. And when there was a mixup while ordering, I got a large plate if French fries for free after not getting them with my meal. Great food and great service.

Fantastic place! Here are the cliff notes: - try the specials - they have a great beer selection - carrot cake is awesome - great staff, great owners, and always clean They will get busy as any other place will on a weekend so keep in mind when going during peak hours. I personally enjoy the spinach and kale salad, the hummus wrap, and fish tacos when they are on special.

This is a great escape from the dirtbag scene at Miguel's and they have BEER! We came here twice during our trip to the Red last month. Great burgers, fries, and carrot cake! Oh man, the carrot cake was so good. We had to get another slice to share. They have PBR on draft. A must if you're in the area and a perfect place to unwind after a day at the crag.

After being to the Red River Gorge to climb several times and also being a total foodie, prior to the RRR being here, the food options in Slade were pretty dismal. Yes, there's Miguel's, which is awesome in it's own right, but there were times when I was simply in the mood for a nice, juicy burger or some comfort food and a nice, cold beer. RRR totally has got you covered, and you definitely can't argue with the fact that they go for organic, locally sourced foods whenever they can. For breakfast, you can't beat the porktato pancakes (amazerful! try it with guac!) and the tacos are pretty good too (go for soft, the hard tacos kinda fall apart). Lasty, the carrot cake & brownies are just to DIE for...they will forever be in my dreams haha! Check it out, this place is the good stuff.

we had a fantastic time passing through the gorge and grabbing a delicious meal. we had the burritos and they were THE GAME--i highly recommend! the restaurant space is inviting, thoughtful, and clearly a labor of love from the fine folks that run the joint. if you're looking for a beautiful drive and some great eats along the way, it's definitely worth the trip.
