"You can have breakfast all day, every day!" "What did you get last time you were here?" Grampa was cooking in the kitchen, and Mom, Son, and Daughter were all serving on the floor. This is clearly a family restaurant: run by families, for families. Unfortunately, it also deals in the generic American cooking - a laundry list of eggs, toast, hash brown, and sausage combinations; burgers, chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy - that absolutely bore me to tears. They make their own homemade bread, and while the thick slices of sourdough did indeed appear to be fresh, this attempt at the style had little rustic appeal, nor much sour of which to speak. It still made a good platform for my egg salad, which was original requested to be a chicken salad, but my indifference didn't see the need to raise a stink. As far as egg salads go, this one was, and aside from a pinch of paprika, there was nothing to make me think Waterfront was interested in rocking the boat. Not that any of their customers were likely to want to eat at a place that was offering anything out of the ordinary. There is a type of person - type of family - that wants comfort, safety, and no surprises in their meals, especially in Wichita, and Waterfront is certainly among them. The restaurant cleaned up the space from when Just Catfish was struggling to survive, so now more than ever it's one of the prettiest views in town, but I'm not likely to return.
