One of the best burgers I've ever had! It's worth the wait every time, love it!!!

Burgers and fries cooked to order! Burger is nicely browned and crispy on the edges and topped with grilled onions, ketchup, and pickles on a buttery, toasted bun. Fries are always frier hot and super crunchy. The best burger in Wichita. Bring cash, and there may be a wait during the lunch rush. But it's so worth it!

For a sketchy little shack of a place they really do make a decent hamburger. The tiny little building has been around for over 40 years now and although it has changed ownership and names over the years, it seems to always have been a burger place. Since there is very minimal seating area inside, their business is mainly drive thru. When I was there their were a solid four cars in front of me. To me that means the place has good food and they're getting repeat business. It's the places that get no business that you have to watch out for. The drive thru itself was simple at best. Just some laminated sheets of paper for their menu. I had some difficulty understanding the person thru the sqwuaky speaker they were using but my order turned out just fine. I'm guessing the drive thru gear is as old as the building. I pulled up to the window, gave the guy my money and he asked me how my day was in a very cheerful way. Also called me "boss" a lot which I found amusing. I got the bacon cheeseburger special which included fries and a drink. The fries are nothing special, very bland and not seasoned at all. Looks like they came out of a bag frozen and were thrown in a fryer. Now the burger was great. Very simple straight forward burger with not much added to it but the seasoning of the meat was spot on. My only gripe is they put pickles on it, not a huge fan of pickles at all but next time I'll have them leave it off. My advice is bring some cash (they don't take plastic) and order just the burger the way you want it. The price is very reasonable for a good burger. My guess is they save a lot of overhead by having such a small place and they can put that savings back into better quality food. And best of all it's a local dive and not a chain. You're getting a good burger and keeping your money in the local economy.

Best drive through burger in Wichita hands down and probably one of the best burgers in Wichita period. French fries are OK (would be a homerun if they were fresh cut.) A couple things to remember, #1 - they only take CASH so don't forget to stop by the ATM on your way there and #2 - it's drive thru only (no seating inside)...

My favorite burger in ICT. Now it is really only a drive through but there is a bar inside you may be able to get into. The people could not be any nicer. The burgers are simple and cheap but are delicious. I have not had sweet tea as good as sport burger's since I was at Mrs. Wilkes in Savannah, Georgia years ago. I'd recommend this burger joint to anyone.

I was not in the mood for a burger. But I gave in. My husband drags me to this place. It's literally so small you'd miss it. We pull u after waiting in the drive thru for about 20 minutes and see "cash only" oh great..... So I'm like forget it.. I'm getting chipotle. So, I spend double for me and the kids than this place would have cost. My husband throws a cry baby fit.. So, we go to the ATM and go back to this joint... Wait another 15 minutes.. Get his food (and the kids double food because they now don't want chipotle. In the 15 minute wait I eat all my chipotle. Big mistake. My husband opens his burger.. Which is so massive the wrapper barley covers it.. My stomach drops. It looks so massive. He says "here's a bite without jalapeños (gross) and I melt in my seat. IT WAS THE MOST DELICIOUS BURGER I EVER ATE!!! Now I'm sitting there so mad at myself because I'm full. Because I was STUPID and didn't order there. Watching my husband and kids eat the most delicious burger. During my TWO bites of his MASSIVELY burger, bacon drops in my lap.. He says "go ahead and eat that bacon, look, I've got plenty. YES YOU DO!!! They drop a whole pig on there!!! NO SKIMPING!! You can't get that bacon at Walmart neither! It was so good!! I'm going tomorrow at lunch to get myself one so I can have more than 2 bites.

Sports Burger is another solid pick for a good old fashioned greasy burger. Their $.99 burgers are amazing, and hard to rival at the price. Small burgers with big flavor and super cheap. Operating out of an old Valentine Diner adds to its charm. These buildings are a piece of Wichita history, and unfortunately not many of them remain.

I usually don't give "divey" joints a 5, but this rating is based on two attributes: Best burger for the buck "anywhere", and their awesome customer service smiles and courtesy shown each time I go there. Drive thru is slow, but she cooks them to order, and it shows in the flavor. OMG, I need one now!! Go Sport Burger!! I really need to get them some WSU shirts...., they bleed purple.

I knew what I was getting into for hamburgers. Small, local, and simple. Their drive thru menu is a bit comical. Almost looks like one of those wanted bulletin boards you would find. I ordered one of their specials which was a double cheeseburger, fries and a drink for 5.99. Reasonable cost that's comparable to any other fast food joint. The wait for your food is a bit longer than any other place. Expect to wait about 5-10 minutes. With a negative, comes a positive. You know your food will be fresh when you pick it up. Pay method is ONLY cash. They don't do plastic or check. Although, who pays with a check for fast food??? Once he handed me the food, I smiled immediately. The bag had grease on the bottom. That's a good sign of a good burger right there. Alright, now here comes the actual food review. The hamburger was executed perfectly. Large bun, grilled onions, cheese, and 2 large beef patties. Seasoning was well done. Most places use too much salt, this burger.. it's simply delicious. I have no complaints about the hamburger. The fries.... well lets just say you can forget about them. They are huge steak fries, but my problem was that they were over cooked. They should be yellow, with a bit of golden brown on the edges. Instead I got orange/brown fries. They were a few minutes over cooked. There wasn't any salt on them either. So I got plain over cooked fries. If you want a great hamburger, this is the place. But expect a bit of a wait time with it. Tips: Don't over cook the fries, and accept credit cards. (If one of them has a smart phone, they should consider getting the square app and square card reader - Both are FREE. You're missing out on potential business by not accepting plastic)

Sports Burger is another True Burger Joint. Its not much larger than a good size closet! There is a bar area inside with 4 or 5 stools on it and you are get real friendly with people sitting on them to pass by to the last stool (Tight squeeze. You are facing the grill and get to watch the complete operation of the joint. They have a drive thru so no you don't have to come inside but it's a treat to watch. They have a 99 cent burger, 1/16 lb of very tastiness, good for about 3 or 4 bites. You can also get a 1/4 lb for about $2.99 or the 3/4 lb monster for $3.99. How can you go wrong with the prices and the special seasoning give you a burger to die for and the fries are cooked crispy, just the way I like them. I enjoyed my lunch at Sports Burger and will go back when I am hungry enough for a 3/4 lb one, can't wait.

I wish for half stars in this case, as this deserves three and a half... four with a better bun. The menu board in the drive through says it all. It has all the food options on laminated papers that are taped to the sign. You know you're going to get a good old fashion hand made burger no frills (a good burger and fries is enough frills for me) and that's exactly what you get. definitely worth a go.

This is a burger of history. The Kansas State Historical Society tells me that Sport Burger is a Valentine diner - a series of small, economical, and portable establishments that could be shipped anywhere in the United States on the cheap (and were based in Wichita) and which populated much of the diner craze in the decades following World War II. Fast food and the need for more room eventually eliminated the usefulness of the Valentine, but it's still an interesting piece of Americana that is unfortunately slowly being paved away. Even in the city where they based their operations, only four Valentine food-serving diners remain in operation today (there's three that are still standing that deal in used car sales), and Sport Burger is one of them. Since we're talking about history, let's get to the burgers. I'm of the belief that to fairly compare burgers you have to divide them into two categories: pre- and post-2000s. Much progress has been made with burgers in the past decade, and we now have available to us one-half pounds of proprietary blends of dry-aged 80-20 beef seared to a medium rare before covering with a smoked cheddar, topped with caramelized onions, sauteed chantrelle mushrooms and a homemade chipotle mayonaisse. These types of burgers can be very good, and deserving of a Hamilton every once in a while, but there's still a need for the Good Old Burger, the cheap and greasy gut bombs that fill you up and make you regret your decisions three hours later, but in the best possible way. By looking at the building, it's no secret which type of burger is being created from within. Sure, the building has been around for a while, but in comparing shots from only three years ago, the exterior of the building could do well with some upkeep. Perhaps it's all they can do to stay ahead of the line of cars that continue to stream past the old drive thru window during the lunch-early dinner times they're open. I don't know if the dining room was closed for good (probably more trouble than it was worth to clean up after the crowd who came to sit on those six seats), but the sign on the door indicating drive thru only operations were in effect dictated that some people who were without transportation get in line behind the cars. We got a special - the large cheeseburger with fries and a drink. The burger was your standard ground beef, cooked to medium well and with a nice crust on the outside. I think this is one of the multitude of places that squishes their burgers with their spatula, as mine was a little dry, the juices left behind on the grill. A standard dressing of mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled onions, and toasted sesame seed bun created a product that was fairly standard, though the toasting of the bun and the frying of the onions were nice touches. While the fries were the standard frozen variety, they got the crap fried out of them, producing a crispy exterior and a deep golden brown color on each piece of potato. They were undersalted. Wichita has a ton of great burger places, so it's easy to find burgers I've had that are better than Sport Burger's. That's not to say that Sport Burger doesn't have a good product - because they do - and the combination of old school production methods and the kitschy Valentine diner that has been soldiering along for fifty years is an important piece of Wichita history.

Awesome tiny burger joint. Old-timey feel. Super greasy/tasty/amazing/juicy/wonderful burgers. Great fries. Drive thru available and very limited seating (4-5 spots if I remember right) inside but there is a picnic table outside.

What could they possibly do better? Perhaps be open later. Regardless, this place is freaking great. I know ICT has a lot of good burger joints, and I have not even remotely hit them all, but Sport Burger always manages to satisfy. Good fries. Second-best onion rings behind only NuWay. Best burger?...It's a close call. Tie may have to go to the runner. My favorite, anyway. You know what I like about it? It's all put together and cooked together rather than stuck together on the burger assembly line. So your cheese is melted, and you have lots of warmed in the bun onions, and the bacon is actual bacon, that helps too. I posted the attire as "casual" just in case you were thinking about wearing your tie. I don't recommend ties at Sport Burger.

I'm mad that I have lived near this place for seven years and wasted so many meals at McDonalds. This is a real burger joint. No frills just burgers. If you want a burger that will pass the paper bag test then this is the place for you. If you don't know what a paper bag test is then you haven't eaten very much greasy food. I loved every bite, but with the recognition that my arteries were cloggy up with every delicious bite. I still may have a heart attack, but at least I had a good meal before the end. The place is run down, but still standing and shows no signs of changing anytime soon. Simple burgers made to order with no preconceptions or gimics. The only thing that bothers me is that they are open no later than 6pm which limits those late night burger cravings that occasionally take over.

When I'm hankering for a burger that's nasty good, this is the place. All the burgers are made to order, right in front of you. That is, if you're lucky enough to find a seat on one of the six stools in the tiny restaurant. The fries give Ty's a run for its money. The only bad part? This place is fairly close to my home, meaning that I'm in danger of getting Sportburgered every day.

After having driven by this place 100 times to get to other restaurants I finally decided to give it a try today. The reviews here helped push me over the edge. For starters, it is freezing cold today, around 23 degrees, and the "lobby" of Sport Burger was closed already, only the drive-thru was open. I work only a few blocks away so I had to sit in my freezing cold car while my order was made. At least it did not take long. Although people here claim everything is made from scratch, I can tell you that is not the truth. I don't care how hot the grill is you cannot cook a hamburger of any size in the three minutes I waited for mine. I ordered a "giant" burger, which is twice the price of the regular hamburger. In this case "giant" either refers to the amount of grilled onions put on the burger or the level of disappointment you will get when you open the burger wrap to find a tiny, 1/8-lb single patty hamburger on a large bun. Or, like 90% of the time I visit drive-thru's, I got screwed. As for taste ... the patty itself is completely bland save for a small bit of pepper. The burger comes with ketchup, mustard, pickle and grilled onions. All together they made the burger taste a little better than McDonald's, but nowhere near as good as Sonic or Braum's. The fries were served fresh and hot, crispy like I like them. I don't know why but I was expecting fresh cut fries (someone mentioned that on another review site maybe?). These are definitely of the frozen variety. But nicely sized and perfectly cooked. Again, though, no seasoning, very bland. I had to break out the salt and pepper back at work before eating them. All in all, I'm not impressed. I paid $4.34 for what should have been about $2.50. It may be that I got the wrong burger, I'm not sure. For the $2.50+ I paid for the burger itself, I was expecting at least a quarter pound of meat but only got at most half that. I will give this place one more shot at earning my business but things have to go much better next time. When I'm in the market for fast food burgers, which isn't that often, I'd rather do Sonic or Braum's than Sport Burger. For sit down burgers, you can't beat TJ's or Ty's in this general area. Oh, also ... no plastic or bills over $20 accepted. Understandable given the location but they should consider accepting plastic, at the very least debit cards. Who carries cash anymore?!

I discovered this little place through my son, who recommended it enthusiastically! The cheeseburgers really are great, fresh and hot every time. I love it that William a. mentions the "paper bag test." LOL...He's so right about that! Sport Burger passes the test!
