On a recent road trip through Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma just trying restaurants and seeing the sights, we randomly chose the Riverside Cafe in Wichita. I'm sire glad we did. Of all the places we ate at, this was my overall favorite experience. The food was great and the atmosphere was even better. A bustling cafe with great eats. I had the chicken fried chicken sandwich and couldn't resist getting the half order of biscuits and gravy. My whole meal was about 10 bucs and wonderful. I will most definitely be returning. *edit .....so I returned....and it was just as yummy as the first time. I LOVE this place for breakfast and only wish I lived closer.

One of the best breakfast joints I've been in. Riverside Cafe is a little slice of history combined with Grandma's cooking that makes breakfast the most delicious meal of the day. Parking is always a little interesting, but nothing to fret over. If Riverside's lot is full, you can use the lot across the street. The cafe is always packed on Sunday mornings, which is my favorite time to go. All walks of life come through here and enjoy a little down-home cooking. The prices are unbeatable and so are the serving sizes. No matter what you get, you've got to end it all with a homemade cinnamon roll or a slice of pie!

Still eat here pretty regularly, and I've determined that their chicken fried steak is the best in the city!! They give you a ton of food for the money.

I have known this place for over 20 years Andrade always loved it. It has a really great, small college town type of feel. The food is good, and the people are very nice.

I've been here a few times and really enjoy it. It's a cozy cafe at the corner of W. 13th and Bitting, The parking isn't so hot, but it doesn't stop me from eating here. You can enjoy a malt at the counter or sit in one of the cute 1950's booths. Great menu and decently priced. I love their roast beef. As I'm typing this just the thought of it has me salivating. Every time my roast beef sandwich is hot tender and juicy just falling off the bread. Roast beef is one of those things you can't make half-assed. There are no mediocre roast beef sandwiches to me. It's either delicious or terrible. Because I love roast beef that much. I had a side of fried green beans, and my belly was smiling all the way home. My boyfriend had the open face roast beef that was topped with mashed potatoes and gravy. I think our meals came to about $9 a piece, and I had to take some of mine home. I like to sit in the booths and pick songs from the jukeboxes they have at each booth. I really enjoy playing songs for a quarter or so a piece while waiting for my food. The cash register is strategically placed by the spinning pie counter so you'll be tempted to buy a slice and take it with you. Since there's no way I could directly eat one after my meal. Free Meal Coupon- Oh ya and you can get a buy one, get one free meal coupon on the wichita360 site link 360wichita.com/Restauran… ************************************************************************************** After many years of great experiences I'm just gonna say; I'm sad that I can no longer back this review. Times change, businesses change... it happens. Love to all. Good luck.

I love me some Riverside Cafe, the 13 street location is my favorite (the Derby location is great too). I've only had breakfast at this place and its delicious! The waitresses makes you feel like family and everyone is very welcoming. Its like breakfast at Grandma's house when you talk in and your belly is full when you walk out. Its always busy, I always wait for a table (but never for very long) and its soo worth it. My daughter loves this place too. Very family oriented; plus they have lots of buy-one-get-one coupons out there. Check it out!

My favorite breakfast spot in Wichita! Food is down-home cooking, prices are very fair, the atmosphere is homely, and the service is friendly. Reminds me of eating at grand-ma's house.

The perfect place for down-home cooking breakfast! Kind of a hole in the wall, but those type of places make the best food, right? You have a gazillion choices and I always have such a hard time deciding which combo to get! Biscuits and gravy- delicous. TONS of pepper gravy. They're pancakes are as big as my face so one will do me just fine. I don't think I've had any better bacon anywhere else than what I've had there. Service is always so friendly and I've never had one bad meal from there. Perfect for Sunday mornings when I wake up at noon and want some breakfast-lunch!

Why has no one told me about the delicious patty melt at Riverside Cafe? Well, I'll be the one to share my new favorite. It's a big burger with melty cheese and freshly grilled onions. I am not a fan of the french fries - they are freshly fried, but in my opinon not crunchy which is a must for fries. I opted for the sweet potato fries which were crunchy krinkly deliciousness. I cannot comment about breakfast other than the biscuits and gravy - big meal with good taste. Riverside Cafe is not upscale but is a great neighborhood restaurant. If you come on the weekends for breakfast, be prepared to wait. The Wichita Eagle sometimes has 2 for 1 coupons that make eating out a good experience that calls for dessert!

I love this place! Good food, reasonably priced, small town atmosphere, and very friendly staff! I recommend this place to all my friends! Another perk is their punch card, eat here 10 times, next meal is free! I have never had a bad meal here!

In short, it wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't go back. The sausages were absolutely black like charcoal bricks and not good. The bacon was chewy. The coffee was good, as were the pancakes. The hashbrowns were undercooked and slimy. The staff was slow, and were just hanging out. The juke boxes on the tables were all out of order also. No reason to go back. Just give me a reason!

I wanted to like it because it is very close to my house. We went for breakfast, our waitress was rude and gave us someone else's order. She didn't stay long enough for us to let her know so we had to deliver it to the next table. My bacon was wrapped in blonde hair. The waitress took it and brought another one but did not apologize or knock anything off our bill. My food was cold and all around just not very tasty. We will not be returning.

More of a small town type place but kinda nice. We were greeted with a friendly hello but you seat yourself and there are a booths and the breakfast bar but some are just big community tables. We were able to get a booth. I got the 3 egg junkyard dog omelet and a side of biscuits and gravy and my gf got egg whites and asked for fruit. It's canned fruit (but they were nice to tell us that) so she changed it to an English muffin instead. Food was good and came out fast. Biscuits and grave weren't the best ever but were good.

This place definitely has the local neighborhood feel to it. I've been there several times and the food was fine every time (I even tried their shrimp plate once). The staff is energetic and seems happy to work there...which indicates good ownership/management. To underscore that, one visit I had an over-enthusiastic staffer innocently make a real faux paux. Without identifying the employee I mentioned it to the owner Mr. Cohlmia. He responded by thanking me profusely and even included a certificate for my next meal. You can almost always find coupons for the Riverside Cafe on restaurant.com .

Went there lastnight for the first time. Service sucked. I asked for iced tea can it was really watered down. When I asked for a replacement it never came, so it was either choke or drink the iced tea water. It took forever to get my food. A couple that arrived 10 minutes after I did got there food first. The food was ok. The fries were hand cut which I like. The burger was greasy, but the bacon got some of that grease. I'll give it another shot.

Great service, great food, very good prices. I love the breakfast food they have and about once a week I call ahead and get a club sandwich for dinner. You get a ton of food and it's a great value. Everyone is very friendly. Small town diner atmosphere.

I tried something different today... No breakfast, just dinner. I had the meat loaf, mashed potatoes, green beans and a salad... Meat loaf was horrible!!!!! Potatoes were dry.... The green beans and roll was good. Our server Nina was amazing!!! I think I'll just stick to my normal breakfast from now on & I won't be disappointed!

This is me and my kids favorite diner for breakfast and dinner. My boyfriend gets to poke fun of me when we go, because I always order my eggs "dippy." Am I the only person on the planet that orders their eggs this way? It is just another name for "over easy," but I've grown up out East ordering them this way, I'm not about to stop now... (Sorry... tangent) This place rocks and is always busy. They open early and close early.. about 8pm I believe. You can get breakfast all day and there is always several specials. If you go to the link 360wichita.com/Restauran… you can print out a "buy 1 get 1 free" coupon good for breakfast, lunch or dinner and they have a punch card for regulars, after 9 punches your 10th meal is free. Yes... I'm a coupon gal... my beau teases me for that too!

Really good breakfast and always-hot coffee. I usually get a Belgium waffle w/a side of sausage links. Delicious! Atmosphere is busy and pretty loud, kind of a country feel with historic Wichita memorabilia on the walls. Also there is are interesting glass chickens everywhere - always something to look at in this place. Service is pleasant & prompt.

I love this place as much for the owner and staff as anything else. The owner is often there seating people himself on a busy Sunday morning, smiling and clapping your back with a friendly manner. The waitstaff will address you as they see you come in, too. These little touches mean so much to us: it's what really keeps us going back. The food is what you would probably expect from a diner menu. The cheesesteak is very good, and the breakfast special that we like a lot (good old 4a on the menu) is a really tasty pancake plate, with egg, bacon and sausage, for under $5.00. The coffee is hot and the clientele an eclectic mix. We really like this place.

Love going here for breakfast or lunch. I'm always working nights or I would try the dinners also. This place is so down home and have just what mom use to cook, I love it. The service is always attentive and fast. Always check the specials and Dillions normally have coupons on their checkout ticket which are good for a free meal with one of equal valve. I always keep one of those in my wallet.

This is a great sit-down, greasy spoon, with friendly service and fair prices. I highly recommend bringing out-of-town guests in if they're looking to throw down on some homestyle cooking. The portions are great! If you live in Riverside then you already know.

I have eaten from Riverside Cafe on two occasions, both take-out. The first time I ordered the chicken strip salad and it was really quite good. Chicken was nice and crispy and the salad was fresh. I ordered ranch on the side and I kid you not I was given 1/4 cup of Ranch! I like my ranch as much as the next person but a couple of tablespoons would have been fine. The salad was also served with garlic bread which was really yummy. My second occasion to order from here is why I'm giving 2 stars. I ordered the sliced turky sandwich with vegetable soup. Man, is this sandwich disappointing. First, I'm thinking carved turkey and maybe that's my mistake b/c it didn't specify that. But it's just regular, crappy deli turkey slapped between two pieces of regular sandwich bread. Seriously? I paid a restaurant to make me what I simply could have brought from home? Bleh. The vegetable soup was okay. Fresh veggies but hardly any salt and no seasoning other than pepper. I've never tried breakfast here and I am willing to give it a try. They need to step it up on the sandwich and soup side. That's basic for any "down home cooking" place as everyone describes them.

Can't go wrong here either. Great biscuits and gravy, huge pancakes, and I just loved the chicken fried steak and eggs. Folksy, down home feel. Everyone was friendly and treated us Californians like family.

Ordered the pecan pancakes, which were different and delicious. The flour was airy which allowed me to not use too much syrup (as opposed to other pancakes that seem to just soak up the syrup). I also ordered a side of corned beef hash and hash browns. The hash browns were perfectly crispy, but the corned beef hash was a bit on the salty side. The service was excellent. A waitress was putting away some apple butter and I overheard her telling someone that it was very popular. I said I'd never even heard of that before. She said I needed to try it and that it tastes really good with raisin bread. She wasted no time getting the items for me to try so that I could enjoy what other customers love.

Had very high hopes, but the meatloaf sandwich I had was just average. My boyfriend said his patty melt was pretty good. Overall just so-so.

Such a fantastic, homey, breakfast spot. The service is kind and attentive and my coffee cup was never empty!!

The food is decent enough, but the owners of the establishment encourage gun owners to bring their weapons with them. The other day, an older gentleman entered the cafe openly wearing a pistol in a holster on his hip. He seemed infirm. I'm sure he is a good person but I'd hate to be present if he feels threatened enough to draw his weapon and start shooting. The experience was so creepy that I'll be taking future meals at restaurants that ban guns from their premises.

Perfect brunch spot! Even when they're packed they get you seated pretty quickly, and have a very friendly staff.

A Wichita staple, nothing fancy but a great little spot. Greasy spoon all the way. Nice servers and tasty home style food.

Riverside cafe should be on the food network for their chicken fried steak! Small...crowded...and just like grandmas house...exactly why it's so packed! The service was fast and amazing despite the overwhelming amount of patrons.

We were visiting Wichita for Memorial Day weekend and had breakfast here. I had the Philly Cheesesteak omelet with a side of biscuits and gravy. I was very good. Biscuits were big and fluffy. Gravy was a white sausage gravy. Omelet had freshly grilled pieces of meat and veggies. My wife got the breakfast burrito and said it was ok. She gave it 3 out 5 stars. It's a nice neighborhood family owned place that is much larger on the inside them it looks. Staff was nice and were always checking on us. I never had an empty cup of coffee or had to wait long to get it. Food came out quickly even though they were busy. Would definitely go back next time were here.

Great place for a quick meal. Fast friendly service and reasonably priced. Food is kind of bland with no seasonings added makes me wonder if it is frozen foods just heated up. Pies are great.

I visited with a restaurant.com coupon. The feel of the place is casual, and I can tell that this is a real local hangout (haha, then again, this is Wichita...so it's not like we have a lot of tourists). We were greeted immediately and chose our seats. The waitress was very sweet and prompt with our food. We ordered the appetizer sampler, where I chose fried pickles, okra, and sweet corn nugget. It came on a bed of fries. I was impressed that the food was fried well....not soggy and overly greasy. Perfect coating. I liked the okra the most. This is the first time I had the fried sweet corn nugget, and I don't think it get's any better than that. Same goes for the fried pickles. My husband got fried catfish fillet (this was not the healthiest meal), and thought it was just average. It came with packaged tartar sauce and sweet potato fries, which were crinkled cut. The fries were better than the fish, but I think that they could be a touch crispier. For dessert, we got the blackberry crumble. There was barely any crust, but I could tell it was made from scratch. There were whole berries in it. All in all, we were satisfied, and I would return to try some more of their homemade desserts, which seemed pretty popular. While there there were multiple customers coming in just for the pies. O, the cashier rec'd we try the sour cream raisin pie next time...lol, with a name like that, I just might.

This place was great. I could tell it was a favorite local diner since it was getting pretty crowded at 7:30 on a Sunday morning. Staff was great and there were so many choices for the breakfast specials.
