Delicious BBQ. We stop here every time we drive between NOLA and Denver. Their ribs are award winning for a reason! This place features a fairly simple menu and large portions. Every kind of meat we've gotten here was tender and delicious. Whether its ribs, sausages, or brisket, every bite is always juicy and flavorful. I've never used bbq sauce here, except the first time when i wanted to try a few. I tried driving some bbq back to Denver once, but the leftovers didn't even make it to I-70. Oh, well.

THE BEST bbq in wichita. Hands down. I love the hot links. This place makes the best ribs i have ever had. A two thumbs up, hands down, no brainer, triple A, solid gold place. Love it. P.S.- have some strawberry soda with your bbq. It's better that way.

My reigning favorite BBQ place in the country. I'll leave it at that. There is a couple places in Texas that might have better brisket, but they more than make up for it in their spares and pulled pork. Sauces are fantastic.

The best I've had since moving to Wichita but still falls short. They have plenty of championship ribbons on the walls however the brisket and sausage sanwhich was short on flavor. I'm going to keep looking but would come back in a pinch or if someone is buying!

The brisket, hot link and beans were absolutely amazing! SO GOOD IT MAKES YOU WANNA SMACK YO MOMMA!!

PIPO is very good. The pulled pork, ribs, and house-made sausage are really the highlights, I think; be warned that the sausage is hot as blazes. Brisket is bad, like most in Wichita, and I find their sauce to be far too sweet and don't care for the beans because of it, but on balance this is one of the two or three best BBQ places in Wichita. The pulled pork and ribs are as good as you'll find anywhere in the country.

Great Ribs!!! Some of the best you'll ever have. Brisket was good but the ribs were killer. Nice family run BBQ Joint the owner was very friendly and very decorated with BBQ ribbons and trophy's. Great sauce and damn good ribs. Price was just right as well. Thanx Derek and staff!

I was visiting my son who is stationed at the nearby Air Force Base and he recommended this place. Bar none, this is the best.BBQ I've had anywhere in the USA. Great staff, great prices and huge servings. I had BBQ Brisket and my son had their famous Ribs. They even served me a sample Rib, LoL... I told them to please open a place in Los Angeles. I Highly Recommend their Outstanding BBQ!!! :)

Wow! A few coworkers and I were in Wichita for business and were told to check this place out. Best barbeque i've ever had. They only offer a handful of options (brisket, pulled pork, spicy sausage links and turkey) with the typical sides (coleslaw, beans, corn, etc...), but everything is really good. A lot of food for around $10. This is primarily a lunch place or for catering in an industrial part of town. Not really meant for dinner (they close at 7 PM). No frills inside the restaurant, but thats not why you go here. Really nice staff. We mentioned we were from out of town and the cashier put together and impomptu sampler platter of all the meats to try before we ordered. I got the brisket and pulled pork with coleslaw and beans. Simply served on your choice of sandwich bread with healthy helpings of their own bbq sauce. Everything was amazing. You can taste the dedication that goes into the food. The meat was extremely tender with a lot of spices. As for the sides, get the baked beans....the bean sauce is unique to the restaurant and is a spicy sweet combination. Coleslaw was well done too. PIPO is a must if you are ever in Wichita.

We visited the place on 6/17/11. Great BBQ, the turkey was very moist and tender, links were great, beef was the bomb (we are not meat eaters but made an exception to try it). The BBQ sauces were the bomb. We got there close to closing and they had run out of ribs but the cook came out to talk to us to apologize for the mistake, he offer us a bit of everything to try since we were from out of town. The cole slaw was alright, it was good but not great. Also, the rye bread was thick and ever so fresh, I had two slice but could eat for of it. Overall it was a good experience I would have gone back for more BBQ but there was more of Kansas I had to try.

The ribs were tasty and seasoned well. Service was pretty fast so it's good for lunch.

Unassuming on the outside, but delicious inside. The building is not much to look at but the food is amazing and if you need proof - they've got ribbons and trophy's - and alot of them. The hot links are killer. If I were on death row I'd ask for the hot links for my last meal.

Been eating PIPO since '97 when it had three tables indoors and two outdoor tables. Ah, the good old days of taking friends their on a Friday at 1:00pm only to find out they had sold out of meat. That's always a good sign. Even had them cater our wedding. Their new location offers, oh, 50 times more space? Same recipe and they have the best ribs, brisket, pork and hot links in Wichita. Their hot links are actually hot. Wichita is blessed to have so many great BBQ locations, but for me, Pig In Pig Out was my first, so it will always be the best. Could care less about the surroundings as this is BBQ the way nature intended.

Best barbecue I've ever had. We were driving through Wichita en route to Minnesota and caught them at closing time. They could have blown us off at the end of a long day, but we were treated like royalty. It's been a few months since we were there, but I recall enjoying both the pork and beef. I will definitely stop again next time we're passing through.

I was sent out to Wichita, KS. for a job project...that's another story. But if i hadn't visited this place I would've never tried the best damn pork ribs ive had in my life, which doesn't say much cuz i'm from los angeles, its a dry rub and so good you dont need the sauce, but sauce is still good. This place is a small shack and orders are best taken to go, get there by 1pm or they may be SOLD OUT (happened to us). There are bbq award ribbons all over the walls, and rumor is football teams have these ribs shipped out overnight to their football games. I will definitely look into this shipping option one day for a large gathering or something.

Good BBQ meat and sauce. A very friendly staff. Uncomfortable tables unfortunately. I've gone a few times and enjoyed myself each time and so have the people I've lunched with. It isn't the first place on my mind when I think best BBQ in Wichita, but it is in the top three that's for sure.

I first tried Pig In Pig Out a few years ago for lunch while here on a business trip. I was a bit leery about the location since the neighborhood is not ideal. However, after enjoying some of the best smoked meats I have eaten, I soon realized that judging a book by its cover does not bode well for eating establishments either. I have since made several return trips to PIPO and have even brought along some family to try it out as well. I have tried almost everything on the menu and have yet to find much to complain about. The only place I could see room for improvement is on the side dishes and having non-spicy options. I love spicy foods and find their BBQ sauces and baked beans to be quite delicious, however, some people I have dined with found these to be a bit on the hot side.

So I land at 5PM in Wichita for a business trip and hit yelp for the best BBQ. We pull into Pig In Pig Out and admittedly were a bit concerned that the restaurant was in the middle of nowhere. We walk in and are immediately greeted by 3 super friendly guys that see tourists from a mile away. They treat us like family, make us a "tasting" plate so we can pick what we like best and it was all fantastic. We ordered plates, each filled to the max with pork, beef, hot links and awesome beans and slaw. If you are in Wichita, even for 24-hrs, you have to hit Pig In Pig Out. Next time I am in town, I am heading over (again).

Ok, was dying to try this place after reading reviews. Start with service, you walk up and order, get your own drink and pick up your food. Not sure if this is normal but that is what we got and not uncommon but nothing special nothing bad, a 3. Beans, sweet with a taste something similar to Italian dressing flavor. Wife didn't like her beans I thought they were ok. I had the coleslaw, meh. Wife had potato salad, meh. Wife had hot link, was very hot, no smoke flavor. Even had the second one warmed over at the house next day still couldn't detect smoked flavor. Next I had pulled pork, very moist, tender no smoked flavor, good but wouldn't say it goes past a 3. Wife and I both had brisket for 2nd meet. It was good, maybe slightly past a 3 but nothing I would make a trip back for. The sauce, ok but not to big on cinnamon or nutmeg and thought I tasted that or a similar flavor in the regular. Spicy was better but not off the chart either. This is an ok restaurant with prices a little high but not out of line as you get plenty of food. Just don't see where all the 4s & 5s were coming from. Maybe we hit an off day. If this is best bbq ever I will stick to my backyard. Lots of ribbons but there a number of Denver places that ought to have a lot more awards on there walls comparing to this place. Pretty sure this wasn't the same stuff they have put in front of KCBS judges. I have went to a few of those as a visitor and this isn't going to knock the judges off their chairs.

So my wife and I came to Wichita for Memorial Day Weekend. Today (Saturday) we drove up about 4PM to find a sign on the door saying they "ran out of food, sorry". How do you run out of food, especially on the weekend! So disappointing!

I was tempted to give PIPO a 5 star review, but since I tend to have the philosophy that things can always be better, I have yet to give anyone a 5-star review. No worries. Food: PIPO is delicious. Their brisket is tender, and their sauces seem to always have a bit of a "kick." Surprisingly, what I look forward to getting when I go there is the beans. I'm not even a bean fan, but just thinking about those beans makes me crave the food! Unfortunately, I have yet to try anything else on their menu (maybe a taste of ribs?) - what the body wants, the body gets, and the body always wants brisket when I go there. Area: Just west of highway 135, off of 13th St. Atmosphere: Usually when we go here, it seems there aren't that many people here. Perhaps most people "pig out?" No problem- that just means less wait time :D BBQ award ribbons are everywhere on the walls. Tables are set up casual / picnic-y, which is ideal, considering how messy BBQ can be.

The only good BBQ around the ICT area. I've had my fair share of BBQ else where, and they are great food at a fair price. Just to be known, their parking lot gets full quick and it's very limited and oddly shaped. I ended up having to find a spot behind the building to park. Walking into the place, you'll notice several ribbons and trophies adorning the interior. This place is as legit as you can get. The front area is a bit too huge in my opinion. I think they could utilize the space better by tearing down the wall to the left and just keep it open and add more tables. The line to the register to order was long, but the traffic flow was steady enough that you won't wait forever. I ordered the 1/2 lb. pulled pork sandwich with a side of Potato salad. Order came out to 7.40 and some change. Fairly reasonable, because other places you end up paying 9-11 dollars with a main course with side. The wait time to get your food is extremely short. I probably only waited about 3 minutes and what I assumed was the owner, yelling out the order numbers in his thick southern accent. Now I'll say they did screw up, and gave me pasta salad, which I could have switched out, but I didn't care. It actually ended up being really good and very flavorful with the dressing and seasoning in it. The meat..... FANTASTIC. It came out steaming hot, with parts of the meat literally falling part from picking it up in my plastic fork. Tasting it, it was very moist and not dry at all. I wished it had a smokey flavor to it, but that's not important. I ordered mine with the wheat bread and loaded it up with meat and some BBQ sauce. Very tasty and fresh for the timeliness and value. Next time I'll try their ribs and see how that goes. But I can vouch that their pulled pork is superb! ONE suggestion, is I wish they served steak french fries. Arthur Bryant's and Oklahoma Joe's serve them piping fresh and I like that as a side better. Perhaps this will motivate them to do so!

Wichita is a blue-collar town full of great blue-collar restaurants like this and Bomber Burger. Pulled pork is best I've had in a long time: neither overcooked nor drowned in sauce. They let you decide how much (not that) hot or mild sauce you want. Great beans and corn on the cob, too.

  • Janet P.

Delicious! I've been to most of the BBQ joints around Wichita and now I know why PIPO is rated 4.5/5 stars! I ordered their 2 meat, 2 side combo, 2 slices of bread for around ~$12, and wowzers was it worth it! I was only able to finish half of my meal cause I got so much! I had the 1/2 lb(or 1/4)brisket, 4 ribs, baked beans, and potato salad! All of them were delicious and the meat was succulent and soft! I especially enjoyed to the ribs, next time I'm just going to get myself a half rack of those babies :) The service was very quick and they were very welcoming and recommended things to order. I tried the hot links and those were yummy too! I don't think you can go wrong here, but seriously, get the ribs!

I love . . . memorable ribs for the passer through. Last visited in fall of 2009. Still talking about those ribs! Memorable and holds their own--even against such juggernauts as Oklahoma Joe's (just dined there again tonight). Legit bbq, cheap prices, friendly service. Will be back in a heartbeat next time I'm in town.

I haven't had much BBQ in my life- so I am not qualified to make a quality judgement- but this was the best BBQ I have had in my life. I recommend the ribs! They had a live jazz improv musician playing and the atmosphere was great! If you are in Wichita this is a MUST!

This is by far the best BBQ in Wichita. The manager Ken always greets me with a great smile and a contagious energy that makes me even more excited about the food. The ribs and pulled pork are my favorite. This is a must stop every time I go through Wichita.

Don't say you're open until 6pm and be closed at 5:30pm. On a Saturday. Great business model.

  • Brad S.

PIPO is the quintessential local barbecue joint. Situated in an industrial part of town, the kitchen consists of a couple of smokers and four friends standing around, ready to serve the deluge of customers that begin coming through the door as soon as the store opens. No matter how many people come in, the service is fast, as everything has already been cooking for dozens of hours before I visited. Cheap, too - a typical lunch will be about $5, served on a paper plate and Styrofoam cups for people to carry to the large dining room off to the side to enjoy and then be on their way. I visited on a Saturday, so the restaurant wasn't filled so much filled with people eating in as they were waiting for their often large catering-sized orders to take home, though I have a feeling weekday lunchtimes are a different story. I placed an order for some pulled pork, hot link, beans, and potato salad, then grabbed an empty seat in the dining room. I hate Kansas City-style barbecue sauce. The thick and sweet tomato-based sauce doesn't so much complement the meat as it does completely overpower it. It's a personal preference, though, and good barbecue doesn't need sauce, anyway. This moist pulled pork - with a considerable smoke ring and a tasty rub - did not need sauce. Not a lot of spice, though - neither sauces nor the beans had any heat either, which I found distracting. The pork sausage fixed this problem with a hefty kick from crushed red pepper that I found very refreshing. The potato salad was a German variation, which I prefer, though it was standard, but good. I liked how the beans were a combination of pinto and kidney beans, but the base for the dish was the barbecue sauce, and I was thrown off by the sweetness once again. I'm sure other people enjoy them more than me. Best in the city? Quite possibly, and the ridiculously numerous amount of competition ribbons that adorn the walls would agree with me. They're not all first place - a quick inspection revealed an eighth-placed chicken - but the majority ranked near or at the top. Awards aside, you can't argue against the undeniable passion of the proprietors and the support of the community tells us that Pig In Pig Out is a community staple, and a wonderful place in which to dine.

I have to admit, the first time I saw this place, I didn't want to stop so we went elsewhere. After reading reviews here though, I decided to give them a chance. Great tasting BBQ, well seasoned corn on the cob, and the wait staff were pleasant to deal with. The only issue I had with this place was the lack of attention to cleaning. Tables were not bussed but worse than that was the caked on ketchup and BBQ sauce on the bottles. I'm giving them 3 stars just for the lack of cleanliness. If they get on the ball with this, though, it would be a five star. The food was awesome. :)

Recommended by Wichita fire fighters, you can't go wrong here! Tender ribs, but I am a brisket guy. It was tremendous! Sauce made it all work, including adding some to the beans. Excellent! Very friendly staff. The next time I am in Wichita, this is a MUST STOP IN AGAIN place.

Yes I did it and I would do it again and again and again, where there is a pig you will find Mark Mash especially in this fine fantastic establishment of a city where my mother grew up where all is fine and dandy unless a tornado stirs up the sewage systems but all is well as soon as I sit down and start grabbing on this award-winning barbecue that is as good as any in the country! I would take a left at Albuquerque any time to get me some of this pig barbecue!

This place is like home and the service treats you like family . Being from KC I eat a lot of BBQ! This place has the BEST HAM TURKEY AND PULLED PORK . Derek and his crew are truly amazing .

I was visiting from out of town. I don't really like BBQ but my husband loooves it -- probably one of his favorite dishes. I don't remember how I heard about this place. I suggested to my husband that we try it for lunch. It was very much off the beaten path for us. Thankfully Siri got us there with no problem, otherwise I would have never found it. This was honestly the absolute best BBQ that I have ever had in my life -- and I don't really like BBQ. The meat was high quality, the portions were huge, the sides were awesome. You must try it!

Definitely the best flavor-and-quantity-to-pricepoint BBQ place I've been to in CA/TX/KS/MO. Quick service too! I got ribs and hot links, both of which were juicy and delicious.

  • Rhonda N.

Excellent food at a good price. Large portions, friendly, quick service. Will definitely be returning. We had the turkey, ham, pulled pork & brisket. For sides, we had their baked beans & potato salad. The potato salad was some of the best we've ever eaten.

  • Kate B.

Ribs: 5 stars - very good! tender, lots of meat. Brisket: A little on the dry side.. Pork: Very good. Mac n Cheese: It's ok - probably a Velveta recipe. Cole Slaw: Tasty. BBQ sauce: If you like sweet sauce, you will love it. Even the hot BBQ sauce is on the sweet side. Service was friendly and fast. We will go there again. We ordered a 1/2 lb brisket, 1/2 lb pork, 1/2 rack ribs, small coleslaw, large mac n cheese and 2 soft drinks and a water. Total was $33 which we thought was very reasonable for the large quantity and fed 3 people. Delicious BBQ.

Haven't been to PIPO in a while. Decided to go over there yesterday for lunch. So glad we did. The ribs are really tasty. Possibly the best I've had in the wichita area. Nice clean restaurant and friendly staff too. We will be back. Hopefully soon.

As far as BBQ goes, this is the definition of a diamond in the rough. Pig In Pig Out BBQ doesn't bother with fancy presentation as their simple facade conveys to you when you park in their cramped parking lot, but the banner hanging just above the fountain drinks states, Winner of the 2011 Outstanding BBQ award. Then you look around and see endless ribbons from other competitions decorating the place like badges of honor. The menu is simple, one or two meat plates, with two sides and choice of bread. The baby-back ribs are fantastic. The meat is tender and juicy with just the right amount of dry rub offering excellent flavor. Add their BBQ sauce [on the sweeter side] and you find yourself wanting to lick your fingers clean. I also had the brisket, and realized that knife I picked up prior to sitting down was going to be left unused. The brisket is fork tender and delicious as well. Their potato salad and corn are pretty standard and nothing to write home about, but clearly their BBQ meat is what they pride themselves on. If you find yourself in Wichita, and wondering what to do for lunch... Go here for BBQ.

Brisket Small place, they have lots of ribbons from competitions (not all 1st place) on the wall. Ordered a three meat dinner + a hot link. Total $14.78 -- CHEAP !! Ribs, pulled pork and slaw were alright, but had better. Beans were a standout. BUT the brisket was the juiciest and most flavorful that I have ever had. Did not need to gag it down !!!

  • Tom S.

Fantastic BBQ and hospitality second to none! We arrived 4 minutes prior to closing and they welcomed us and let us sit down and eat. To top it off, the owner gave us a generous sample of the pulled pork. Ribs, brisket, hot links, baked beans, potato salad and even the bread was stellar!

    (5)
  • Eric M.

Real good BBQ. Don't expect anything fancy but if all the ribbons on the wall tell you anything, it should be that this joint knows BBQ. The prices seem a bit high but when you see the mound of food on your plate you will not be dissatisfied. The ribs were my favkrite item and done dry with sauce available on the tables. The hot links were tasty and not too spicy. The pork was good but I may have been too full by then to really appreciate it. As sides go the baked beans were great with just the right amount of heat to pair well with the ribs and pork.

Yes.... HELL yes! Again a sampling of meats with clients proved the smoky grail was pork ribs carried by pulled pork. Either of these meats here are just amazing. Smoky. Firm yet tender. Spiced appropriately. I literally have to push the tray of ribs away or I will eat until they are gone or I am miserable. A free drink while waiting for the take out order to complete was a classy touch. Great place.

Amazing BBQ. Don't be disappointed if you get there late and they are out of certain items, because BBQ this good takes a lot of time to make.

  • Jaime I.

We had the brisket, pulled pork, hot links, tri tip and ribs with beans, potato salad and white bread on the side. We pretty much sampled the whole menu. The pulled pork was great- moist and not dry. The brisket was falling apart because it was so tender. The hot links have a good flavor but they're spicy hot! The beans were sweet and cooked well and the potato salad was tangy. Everyone in our group (all 7 of us) were satisfied. End of day bonus- they gave us a box of MORE food. The cobbler was to die for but they ran out of it by the end of the day. Tip: call ahead to ensure they have your favorites. We will come back if we find ourselves in Wichita again.

In a word.......DAMN! Absolutely fantastic pulled pork. Best green beans I've ever eaten. Try this place!!!!!

4.5 stars. The staff was friendly. Sample plate was GREAT!! Every meat was tender and perfectly cooked. Wound up having a small brisket sandwich. VERY HAPPY! (Lost .5 stars due to not having sweet tea. Adding sugar to plain tea is not as good.)

Good stuff! Last Friday at lunch I had the Lemon Pepper Salmon dinner. I had the corn on the cob and potato salad for my sides. Everything was yummy, and I especially enjoyed the creamy potato salad. Hubby had a pork sandwich with slaw on it(Carolina) and a hot link. He thought both were very good. Very clean and friendly, and our food was ready very quickly. Would definitely go back!

  • Michelle M.

The pulled pork was the most tender I have ever eaten. The sauce was very flavorful with just the right amount of heat. We also had the brisket which was really good.

The best BBQ place I have been to. They also have the best prices I have seen. I live in Texas now and still crave PIPO! You have to try the Fireman Special and you will not be hungry when you leave. It is a large brisket sandwich with a big slice of turkey and topd with a hot link.

    (5)
  • Matthew D.

Super delicious! The beans are unique and about the most memorable that I have ever had. And the seasoning on the ribs is bold, but still lets the flavor of the rib sing loud in all it's glory. Years ago I had a weekly routine of enjoying one of their fireman sandwiches and while I think about the food now as I type this review, my mouth is watering out of control. If you haven't tried this Wichita classic, do it!

    (5)
  • elisa e.

VERY simple menu and priced just right! For under $8 I had four meaty pork ribs, chips a drink and rye bread. The ribs were all I could eat and the best part for me was the ribs were not covered in a sauce - perfect as I like to add my own! Only complaint is their hours but apparently all the non-chain BBQ restaurants close early, not sure why...

    (4)
  • JT A.

While this restaurant shows pride in its numerous awards, they definitely have the goods to back it up. Some places you wonder how they won awards, not here! The restaurant crew (owners?) readily explained their menu and gave samples if you were sure. If you have questions here, just ask. I got a combo plate of ribs and a hot link. Both were smoked well. The ribs were tender, moist, and full of flavors. The link's casing had a nice crispiness while the filling was spicy and delicious. Both of the sauce choices were a bit on the sweet side, but they accented the meats well. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the Wichita area, you won't be disappointed.

Most tender pulled pork and delicious BBQ beans. Truly a gem of a BBQ joint. Easy access off the 135. Great prices and the joint was non-stop selling the whole time we were there.
