Now that I've made it past 400 reviews in Wichita, it's probably time to start looking back to those places I previously rated so highly, not just because the quality may have dipped since my last visit, but because in my naivité I was simply off the mark. Mediterranean Grill is one of the latter, wherein my ignorance of Wichita's large Lebanese population caused me to go off on a tangent of the definition of "Mediterranean", which, sure, is a legitimate sticking point with a lot of restaurants around here, but now that I know what it means around here, I can re-align my expectations. The key to understanding Mediterranean Grill is in its owner, Youssef Youssef, the man so nice they had to name him twice. Formerly a chef and waiter under Antoine Toubia, Youssef opened his own place in 1995 in an old Nu-Way. The restaurant, Le Monde Cafe, is still popular today. Around the same time the man operated Marbella in a prime location across from Towne East Square, but gave it up and moved back to Beirut until 2007, when he returned to Wichita and opened Mediterranean Grill with his cousin. A little more formal in atmosphere, with dimmed lighting and dropped ceilings, the menu is very similar to Le Monde's. It's a majority sandwiches and wraps, though there are a dozen entrees available for dinner. Given the ambiance and the proclivity for some male patrons to don collared shirts, the idea of getting a sandwich seems out of place, so I went gangbusters and ordered the most expensive thing on the menu: the braised lamb shank. I recall positive feelings of the rendition of this that I had at Le Monde, though here I was not so kind: the meat fell ridiculously clean off the bone, sure, but it wasn't seasoned; it was covered in a "vegetable sauce" that consisted of a processed tomato sauce with some sauteed vegetables thrown in after the fact; and it was served on a bed of sticky rice and chopped up spaghetti that was confusing. Additional julienned vegetables were served as a side, though they could have been cooked longer to achieve some browning. My original review pointed out how scattershot the menu is, though now I realize that this is endemic of many Mediterranean restaurants around here (Bella Luna, Adrian's, La Galette) that try to offer a little bit of everything to please no one. I can absolutely guarantee there is no way Youssef could serve my meal in Lebanon and get away with it. Mediterranean Grill fares better when it sticks to the koftas, skewers, hummus, wraps, and stuffed grape leaves that are typical of his heritage. They aspire to offer more, though, and they are not successful at it.

We had lunch today for the first time. My teenage son wasn't excited then when he tasted the sweet rolls and his Chicken sandwich was amazing, my husband got the chicken pesto lasagna and it was cheesy and scrumptious, my salad was dead on with leftovers for dinner for all. We will be coming back for more. I am disappointed in myself that it took me all these years to try this amazing place.

Excellent food and service! Really enjoyed the hummus and gyros. Would definitely come back.

A co-worker and I stopped by here based on reviews. We were not disappointed. Entering the restaurant we were a bit put off by the slightly run down looking exterior, but we were enthused by the atmosphere once inside. The staff were all extremely friendly. The meal started off with complimentary biscuits. These were very unique, almost as sweet as a cookie, but with the form and texture of a biscuit. The only thing I didn't like was that there were only 2 of them! Next I had a fattoush salad, which I found to be extremely flavorful, full of different pleasing textures, and wonderfully colorful. I had the mixed teriyaki grill for dinner. The shrimp, steak, and chicken were served on three separate kebabs. Each meat was prepared perfectly, all were juicy, tender, and flavorful. I can't wait to have the opportunity to come back and explore this menu more fully!

My wife and I had the Fattoush salad, the best in town IMHO, and the hummus, which was also very good; then we shared the special which was shrimp, chicken and beef kabobs with au poivre sauce. It was amazing! The service was friendly and responsive. We will definitely come back.

I was introduced to this restaurant by a friend who swore the fattoush salad was amazing...so I tried it out. She was 100% right. This is now my favorite restaurant in Wichita! Everything I've tried is delicious. The biscuits are to die for. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the butter is too cold/nearly frozen, and it makes it hard to spread....but I will honestly eat them without butter haha. They don't have a kids menu but my daughter loves the beef kabobs. They are always so tender. The veggies are always cooked perfectly. The hummus is very good, I love it with red peppers added. Pita is always fluffy and fresh. The Mediterranean chicken with garlic butter is probably my favorite. Portions are perfect. Meat is tender. One thing I didn't think I was going to like is the tomatoes, they use a lot of them on the dishes and I rarely ever eat fresh tomatoes--well not here. They are so good! Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Fast service, and the prices are excellent. I always buy their Groupons as well! They are frequently available and have a great discount!

Some restaurants blow you away. This is one. The free sweet biscuits should have a cult like following. These are fresh and hot with the perfect texture of soft/moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The Gyro is the best in the city and The fattuish salad is so freakin good. One of the best places in Wichita.

There are lots of things to like about this restaurant. I've been several times and they are consistent in all aspects. The service is great. Our waitresses have always been kind and attentive (that's not always the case when you bring in a family of seven). The hummus is great; but it's the fattoush salad that keeps me coming back. They make it with crunchy pita chips and pickles (instead of cucumbers). The "mediterranean tostada" with steak is AWESOME! I know it doesn't sound right but trust me... it is. Also, the vegetable curry with chicken is great. Like I said, they are very consistent with the service, food and appearance.

This restaurant does NOT have a buffet. Food wasn't bad. Pita and hummus were good. The sweet biscuits were addictive. Friend and I got the lamb and beef kabobs. We noticed that everyone else in the restaurant seemed to be eating salad. My lamb kebabs seemed soyish. The beef kabobs were beef kabobs. Pretty much what you'd expect. The meat pies were okay. They weren't the fully-closed kind. But little squares that looked kinda like Middle Eastern pastry. The appetizer went well together with its little bed of salad greens and chopped tomatoes. Service was a little slow at the end. But it was lunchtime.

I picked this restaurant based on Yep reviews. The location next to the mall was an initial detractor, the lack of people in the dining room was a second strike. I was now very concerned that my choice was a poor one. I ordered the mixed kebab special with pepper corn sauce. The shrimp was well cooked, the chicken was good, but the beef was tough and the sauce came across as an overly thick gravy. Totally unnecessary. My son and his girl friend had giros and were happy with the result. My wife had the slow cooked chalice and raved about the flavour, moisture and tenderness. So perhaps you just have to know what to order. It was quiet, which for perfect for our purposes. It was ok, but not excellent.

We went based of other reviews. When we pulled up there was no one in the parking lot and it was dinner time during the week. We decided to try it anyway. The staff was very friendly and the food was very good. I tried the lamb kabobs and the eggplant dip. Well cooked and seasoned.

Discovered this restaurant through Yelp and the food was amazing!!! We just moved to Kansas and I am glad we discovered this restaurant now so that we can enjoy it while we are stationed here! We will definitely be going back!

Once upon a time in a land known as the City of Brotherly Love, I thought I had found the ultimate biscuit. This biscuit was a behemoth buttermilk delight - flakey, golden on the outside, and moist and warm on the inside. Apparently I was wrong. The best biscuits in the world...ever...I swear it...are at the Mediterranean Grille. These biscuits are somewhere between a shortcake biscuit and a buttermilk biscuit. They're half-baked deliciousness, with a crispy, convoluted exterior - a perfect white gold. One bite will yield an explosion as though a vat of sweetly creamed butter had thickened itself enough to become a pseudo dough form. These biscuits need to amendments - no butter, no jam...nothing. They're fresh from the oven, homemade awesomeness...a recipe that has undoubtedly remained the same since my childhood. And in a land where the bread basket is slowly disappearing from diner's tables, these are precious nuggets to be sought after. In order to pay your dues for the complimentary biscuits, order some hummus - bright, light, creamy and served with warm, fluffy, freshly baked pita, your palate will be equally pleased, and your conscience assuaged...because we all know that you come here for the biscuits.

Fattoush salad was great. Appetizer was tasty and filling. I expected a little more bang for my buck on the entree, but still very good. Had another delicious bisquit for dessert!

Great staff, super friendly. Food is reasonably priced and every meal is delicious. Nicely done.

  • Ian B.

The sweet biscuits they bring you before your meal are heavenly. Went in for lunch while I was getting my car fixed across the way at Eddy's, and it did not disappoint. Had the pita and hummus, which was excellent, and the fattoush salad topped with gyro was pretty tasty, but not as good as some of the other fattoush salads I've had around town.

  • jim b.

Had the chicken shwarma special. It was terrible. The hummus was excellent as was the service.

  • Caitlyn S.

Excellent service. The biscuits served before the meal are divine. The wine isn't badly priced, so we usually share a bottle. The food is delish - I've tried the pasta dishes, gyro, and the sampler app platter...all great choices.

  • Audrey K.

Great food! This is certainly a little gem in that little beaten area by Towne East Mall. The prices are great and there is certainly something on the menu for most everybody. While the service was quite on the slow side, I'll attribute that to the owners or management perhaps not having hired or scheduled enough staff to work because those who were there were certainly doing there honest best to keep up with every table and to keep us happy. Great experience.

  • Dean W.

Go here for the hummus! Spectacular. As was the pita bread. Warm and pillowy fresh. Could make a meal of this alone...beautifully made and presented. The lamb kebab with fatoush salad was perfect. Well seasoned ground lamb, the salad not overwhelmed with vinegar, and full of little surprises like chopped pickles. The gyros sandwich one of the best I've had. Perfect amount of meat, fresh pita, great tzatziki, it all melted in my mouth. The biscuits are evil and addicting, especially when warm. Do not save them for dessert (they are sweet), as they lose most of the goodness when cold. The waitress would not reveal what was in them....they are like crack biscuits. Service both times I've gone has been excellent, quick and friendly. And the prices are dirt cheap. The food is simple and excellently done. And the hummus...give me a gallon to go!

  • John C.

They offer a free hot biscuit before the meal, which was both wonderful and unique in its taste. I ordered the lamb kebab, which was good but not great. Definitely get the salad over the fries - it was delicious. All told, worth the $8 it cost me. The atmosphere was just fine but nothing special - good for lunch but look elsewhere for a dinner date.

Really enjoyed the food here. A nice diversion from all the big chain restaurants close by. Very authentic and affordable. Appetizer platter is a must with each meal...

Surprisingly good falafel and hummus. Fast service, good prices. Slightly kitschy atmosphere, but nothing unusual for Mediterranean cuisine. A gem of a restaurant in Wichita.

Nice and romantic- candlelight - at least after 8 when we were there. We had a nice time - the appetizer we ordered was outstanding 41/2 out of 5. It was the olive bread. The entrees my dh and I ordered - Chicken Lasagna and 4 cheese pasta - respectfully, were good maybe 3 or 3 1/2 out of 5. We did not try any desserts on this visit - we will go again. On a light note, if you are preggo or have other issues - reconsider about sitting on the west side of the restaurant- there is a beautiful water fall - I am guessing from the sound - it was dark in that partition and I could not see. But I felt like I had to visit the little girls room throughout the visit. :~)

Their hummus is most definitely yummus and if the waiters find out you're Lebanese, then they'll teach you dirty words if you ask them!

I was skeptical at first, since I hadn't had Mediterranean food before, but my meal was delicious! I had a gyro, which isn't very adventurous, but I loved it. The biscuits they bring out to start with are amazing.

I love the fattoush salad at Mediterranean Grill, but I have to say that the people I brought here were most impressed with the delicious sweet biscuits!

This restaurant has some of the best Mediterranean food I've ever had. If you have an opportunity to eat here, don't pass it by. I started the evening with the Dolma appetizers, which are grape leaves stuffed with rice and Greek seasonings. These are a favorite of mine whenever I have the chance to order them, and these exceeded my expectations. 5 were on the plate, and there were plenty to go around. For my entrée I ordered the lamb kebab, which came as 2 ground lamb patties marinated in Greek seasoning and cooked on a wooden skewer. They were fantastic. All the kebabs come with a side, and I chose hummus and pita bread. The hummus and pita were good, but not spectacular. Very yummy, however. The salad I ordered, however, was unbelievable and one of the best I've ever had. I ordered a side of Fattoush salad. This is a Lebanese salad including mixed greens, deliciously seasoned tomatoes, pickles, pita chips and feta cheese. The dressing was perfect. I will be sure to order this salad again the next time I come here with my family! I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur of Mediterranean cuisine, and this was a fantastic sampling. Definitely five stars!

Hi Yelpers - I stopped in today for a quick lunch - (they are time sensitive) - and I needed a Gyro / Hummus fix. I'm not usually in this area, but after a quick client meeting - found myself not wanting to try the "chain" stuff available on Rock Road, although the competition is fierce. Quickly greeted at the door and seated in a comfortable booth with some tea on the way. Looking over the menu, it has not changed much in the past several years. I frequent this place about 3 times a year. I ordered the Gyro and fattoush side salad with a small hummus. See pictures :) The entire meal was fantastic, relaxing and reasonable for what I ordered. Sadly, I do not remember the name of my server, but he was professional and very efficient. Only two guys running the floor and quite a few tables in two rooms placing lunch orders. Everything I ordered was exceptional. Could not have really asked for a better lunch. Try this place out if you have not visited Mediterranean Grill. Cheers to all ~

Great prices, really great flavor. Waiters memorize your order without writing it down. The lamb kebab flavors are really great but pretty much everything is good here. The only thing I don't like to get is the salmon, it's just average but salmon from most restaurants are overpriced and average tasting. Biscuits are unique and free, tastes like butter and maltose and carbs. Delish.

This restaurant serves great Mediterranean food- don't be fooled by the building. My husband loved the biscuits! The hummus was very good & we got raw veggies instead of pita at no charge since we were gluten free. We tried the beef kebabs & kefka kebabs & both were wonderful. We got sautéed veggies, which were not exceptional so I would experiment with another side next time. (FYI-The rice has angel hair pasta & is not gluten free.). Service was great. My daughter had their Spumoni ice cream for dessert & it was enormous, delicious & made her day.

Great variety on the menu. The food was delicious and the service was phenomenal. Gluten conscious staff. We had the baba ganouj and the kabobs. They also have the most amazing rolls that are a secret recipe of the owners mom. Make sure you stop here for dinner. Great meal.

We looked up the menu online before visiting the restaurant for the first time. The online menu provides a large selection of dishes to choose from. Once we arrived the actual menu has considerable less dishes to choose from. Of course what we wanted from the online menu was not offered. Bait N Switch sales tactics We did go ahead and order and what we both ate, we enjoyed. It's just the misleading online menu left a bad taste in our mouths.

Very good, very authentic place! Everything taste yummy. Especially the Fattoush Salad! Service was very nice and prompt. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone. They were about to close but let us in and fed us! So kind!

We both had kabobs chicken and beef ... Cooked just right and very well spiced. My husband had the hummus and choose the mixed vegetables. Both very well done. The sweet roll is to die for! We'll be back next time thru town!

This place is a hidden gem. The outside appearance is certainly off putting and it is hidden behind the mall, but once you head inside the story changes. A step inside this restaurant is a step inside an authentic Mediterranean restaurant. The food is divine and the service is always exceptional. My favorite dish is the lamb burger (and ask for tzatziki sauce). I love the taste of lamb and don't want it to be mixed with beef, like a gyro. the lamb burger is lamb, add tzatziki sauce for a gyro burger!

Have had bad experiences at Mediterranean restaurants in the past. This was the most pleasant shock we only came here because we had a coupon, and the food and service were excellent. Schwarma not sure if I spelled that correctly but it was off the hook, went great with my shrimp chicken and steak kebab. Topped it off with a delicious Tara Massou.

The good - food was tasty, decent menu selection, just about the right price point. Oh yeah, the blonde waitress who smiles even though she's obviously overworked at an understaffed restaurant. The bad - I felt like I was in a 1980's assisted living center. Everywhere I looked were old people. Like, 80+ years old. The decor is probably why, as it's very dated and grandma-ish. It took an unusually long time to get our food, but at least it was hot and tasty. The location sucks - next to Towne East. Move out NE or somewhere and update the decor. The chef has the skills, but the crowd is tired.

The food here is great, especially for the price. The sweet biscuits they bring to your table are amazing. I had the lamb kabob, which was pretty good, and the hummus was outstanding. The only real downside happened on our last visit -- our five-year-old son dropped a toy car in a crack between the seat and the wall, and there was no way to get it out. As he sat pouting, we noticed a toddler sitting behind us dropped a butter knife in the gap at his table. So, great food, but if you're bringing small children and choose to sit in a booth, be sure to mind the gap.

A group of us ate here last night. Obviously the previous reviews have been done by employees/friends because the food did not come anywhere near a four or five star rating. That being said, the service was fantastic. Our waitress was nice and very polite and should be working somewhere better! The Restaurant: Looks run down from the outside, the inside isn't as bad but still looks a little run down. The menus are literally falling apart and booths are kind of uncomfortable. The Service: The waitresses were the only saving grace of our experience there. The two working were so friendly that it made up for a lot of things. However, i'm still only giving one star because the other reviews are just so wrong on this place. The Food: We received some obscure cookie/biscuit at the start of the meal which was yummy but it was extremely hard and sweet. I have no idea why you would start a meal off with something sweet like that. The hummus was great which got us excited for our entrees. Out of the three meals we had only one was just ok. We didn't finish half of it and definitely did not want to take it home. The worst offender was the Chicken Shawarma - For some bizarre reason there was an extremely sweet jam or chutney in the wrap. This left the food pretty inedible to our whole table and no one ate it. We complained at the end but the waitress didn't do anything about it. We would not return or ever advise people to go here. There's much better food in Wichita!

We were a little worried when we drove up. It was dark and only a few cars in the lot. However our food was amazing. The chicken kebabs were tender, gyros yummy, Italian sausage sandwich was delicious. Pita is fresh and soft. Grilled veggies are incredible-- pick the grilled over the raw veggies. The kids pasta is huge-- it could really be an adult dish. The kids pizza has a stinky cheese on it, which was a bit of an issue. Portions are generous.

This was my 1st time eating this type of food but I was not disappointed. Some of the flavors and textures seemed strange but it was actually quite tasty. I would come here again if I had an itch.

I went to the restaurant for a rehearsal dinner, so we didn't have options for ordering specific menu items. However, the buffet was great. The biscuits served before the meal have a distinct animal cracker flavor and are very good! The food on our buffet included pita bread, pita crisps, hummus, vegetables, some sort of meat (I don't eat meat), rice, and salad. I enjoyed everything. The only problem was that they had run out of pita bread and pita crisps by the time the last of us had a chance to grab some food. They got more for us, but it took a few minutes. The rich chocolate cake served for dessert was so tasty. Also, they did not have extra biscuits, which seems odd, since every table gets these pre-meal. I would have liked another one or two.

Great service, great food, cheap, and huge portions. If you don't eat here once a week, you are doing Wichita, nay the entire state of Kansas a disservice. If you are solo, don't even think about an appetizer. You won't have room. Just eat the biscuit and wait for your entree. Get the salad over the fries.

Never had a bad meal here. Delicious. The gyro, falafel, and kabobs are amazing. Don't forget to order hummus as an app!

Good Mediterranean food. I've eaten here several times and this place never disappoints. The hummus is good and the warm pita bread supplied with it makes it even better. As many people have stated the gyro and fattoush salad are excellent.

  • Drew S.

Absolutely delicious! Olive bread is like bruschetta but more everything. Falafel and gyro are both great with the salad, a FULL plate of food! For me that's a big deal. Nice jazz music and very clean. And of course finish with some baklava. Wife and I got all that with iced teas for just 30 bucks.

No matter what your taste, this place will please almost everyone. Portions are generous and the food quality, as well as the presentation, is great. Only negative is that we have had sub stellar service in two visits, but overall service is good and we will certainly be back.

I am Imptessed! The food is as close to authentic as i have found in Kansas and dekicious! The lamb kabobs are melt-in-your-mouth tender. The tabbouli is fresh, tart, and zesty. The hummus is served fresh and warm. Add to that the excellent service, fast order times and generous portions and this restaurant would be a bargain at twice the price.

We live an hour away, on a farm, and this was our second trip to this restaurant. I moved here from Chicago and miss the restaurants--this one does not disappoint. It is like a breath of fresh culinary air! I had the lamb the first time--which was amazing. This time we had the shawarma appetizer, served with sauteed tomatoes and pita triangles. I could not get enough of this dish! The flavors blended perfectly and my mouth was dancing happily! I went with my husband and we had the same thing for the lunch entree--the gyro with a fattoush salad. Upon receiving my entree, I told the waitress that the dish was too pretty to eat. They tell you that you should eat colorful food, and this definitely had it. The veggies were exploding gorgeously with color--very appetizing appearance. The food tasted as good as it looked. Don't pass this one up--it might not look like much from the outside, but let me tell you, it's really nice inside, the service is prompt and curteous, and the food is spectacular!

When we crave Mediterranean food, this is the place. The restaurant is warm & inviting, the staff are friendly but sometimes too busy because they run around alot. But the food is really good. You can taste the difference between chain restaurant food & family owned. I always prefer small business/family owned, for their uniqueness and specialty. Our favorites was the hummus & can't get enough of the fresh soft warm pita bread, and unforgettable sweet biscuits!! My hubby almost always gets the lamb shank, so tender & juicy. My favorite are the grilled kabobs of meat, served w/veggies. Ask for sauce on side, so it's not drenched all over when you get it. If you haven't been here, gotta try. Glad we did a year ago, as we always come back now.

This place is great, and very reasonably priced, especially with the Groupon we had. I would still come here and eat without a discount though, because the food is amazing! The falafel was one of the best I've had, and the tiramisu was fabulous! Go eat here!

Well- on our way out of Wichita we decided to try this place out. I was shocked by the serving size of the kids penne alfredo- it could have fed my wife and I both! It was pretty good, needed some salt, and could have used some garlic, but not bad. My salad was great- very crisp and clean. My wife had the Gyro and it was as well very well put together. Lamb was tastefully seasoned and tender. All in all I was pleased- nothing to wow about, but it did satisfy. My pallet.

When I brag about a restaurant it's usually because the food is unforgettably delicious, the ambience is inviting and enjoyable, and the service makes you feel like you're royalty. Well, that's exactly what I tell people about Mediterranean Grill. From the moment you step inside you are treated like the most prized customer to ever walk through their door. You are immediately greeted and taken to one of their tables or booths in the dining room. The servers know the menu inside and out and are more than willing to answer questions and go the extra mile to make sure your dining experience is the best it can be. AND, most importantly, the food....is....amazing! If you like mediterranean food, you won't be disappointed. Before the meal comes out the server brings out fresh honey butter biscuits that are to die for. And their menu is extensive. The appetizer combo platter is my absolute favorite. It's loaded with warm, fluffy, pita bread, hummus, baba ghannouj, falafel, grape leaves, tabouli, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives and feta cheese. What more could a person want? And their dessert and beverage selection is awesome, too. Baklava, tiramisu, lemon pastry cake, creme brulee, turkish coffee....the list goes on. If you live in Wichita, TRY IT. If you come to Wichita, STOP BY. You won't be disappointed.
