I know more than a few people who really, really like B&C. And it hurts me given the completely mediocre experience I had there and in every other barbecue buffet in this city. The kicker is that one block east of B&C, in a part of the area that's completely residential, there's much better barbecue. Jet's not probably doing himself an favors disguising his restaurant in an old firehouse and only being open for weekday lunch, but the place was plenty hopping with people in the know, and I was eager to join their ranks. The limited menu they offer to customers that aren't taking out giant catering containers consists mostly of sandwiches. You can make a sandwich out of any two or three meats you like. For me, it's always about the pulled pork and the brisket. It's been all or nothing for most of my encounters with Wichita 'Q, but a couple of bites into my sandwich I was thinking to myself that this was good, solid barbecue. I was pleasantly happy at how the brisket was tender (not fall-apart tender, but tender nonetheless), and the bark contained very big notes of the wood used to smoke the meat. The pulled pork, too was sufficiently tender, succulent, and flavorful. This is significant only because so much barbecue around here is so middling. This was barbecue that not only had personality, but had the flavor to back it up. Combine this with an eccentric location and you have a type of barbecue that suitably defines Wichitan barbecue. Other really good barbecue places like PIPO and FIU try to be good on a regional - if not national - level. But Jet just wants to be the guy serving good barbecue out of the backyard of his firehouse. If this can't be respected, it should at least be recognized more than the lunchtime line at B&C would have me believe.

I know the owner of Jet Bar-B-Q and he's got a great food! It's located in an old fire station in downtown Wichita and you drive through the fire station to pick-up your lunch. He also caters and owns an old firetruck which he rents for birthday parties, weddings, and other special occasions.

Just had lunch at Jet, its very cool to sit in the old fire truck and eat. The old Firehouse on 3rd a couple blocks east of Washington. I don't know what he does special, but his turkey is probably the best in Wichita!

Went for lunch. Shop sign says closed (on Wednesday). Called and the Jet Man says he's retired. Is it closed for good?

The people here are friendly and welcoming, the sandwich is really good and price is really cheap. After eating we just played table tennis with the owner, and jamming to the oldies.

Unique dining experience for lunch. Lots of regulars, tasty food. Owner as really friendly and served up a mean "The Dave". Lots of competition though and in a horrible location to find or think about on a regular basis. I enjoyed my lunch as did my two guests! Quite tasty and unique experience Yelpers... Give him a visit!
