GG is a great vegetarian lunch destination. They have a lunch Buffet with several delicious options. Brown rice, brown beans, polenta, kale in coconut milk and lentil stew. It was all so tasty. Will definitely hit this for lunch again if I am in downtown Wichita.... "A seven nation army couldn't keep me away!"

I have been here several times. I have not had anything i did not enjoy. The hummus is a must for starters. Pizza is delicious. I wash it down with their own version of iced tea. Everything here is vegetarian for sure, but i think it also might be vegan. The staff is really cool and experienced. Price is low for the experience. Its healthy and a peice of colanary art. The food is very tasty and is presented very elegantly. Parking is very minimal if you can find parking in the street and have a quarter for the meter its very worth your while.

For a Wichita visitor, this place wasn't super easy to find and get a parking space. I visited for dinner, and was surprised to find the front door by the signs locked. However, a quick call and they walked to the front to let me in and explained that after business hours to use the other door. Anyway, I am glad I made the effort! Based on my friendly server's recommendation, I chose the Grilled Basil Vegetalien. It was fantastic! The tofu and eggplant on the sandwich were so flavorful and perfectly cooked. During my meal the chef walked around to the tables, which I thought was a nice touch. I told him how much I enjoyed the sandwich. It was served with a side of potatoes, but they weren't very exciting. They weren't bad, and I ate them, but I would love to see some more interesting sides that match the awesome level of the sandwich I had. That's the only reason I didn't rate 5 stars. I will definitely be back though!

This is such a yummy, neat surprise to find in the heart of downtown Wichita. Who knew that there'd be such a crowd at a vegan restaurant in the smack dab middle of cow country? Usually I have to give a caveat to my reviews (e.g., "I eat mostly vegetarian/vegan so I'm judging this restaurant heavily due to their reliance on meat and cheese!" etc. etc.) but Garden Grill Cafe ensures that I do not have to add this in my review. Thank you. On my last visit, I ordered the pizza and salad combo. As a rule, I try to stay away from safe options when I have more options than a "veggie" burger or salad at a restaurant, but I was craving a salad. And it was a wonderful choice! The salad included a breaded "chicken" that had a great taste (I could've sworn it was chicken) and deliciously prepared mushrooms (I need to learn how they prepare them...seriously). The pizza crust was deliciously crisp and thin, and it included large yummy pieces of veggies. My husband ordered the mac and "cheese" which was also delicious. My only warning is this - if you can do so, leave your jacket/coat in the car before you eat here. The restaurant smell lingers...and although not a terribly awful smell, you don't want to carry it into your workplace or wherever you are returning.

Yum! I'm so impressed with the meal we just had, what a great find. Visiting my family here in Kansas, my mom was excited to take me to The Garden Grill Cafe, and it met all of my expectations. Loved the the garden grill salad, I could eat that "chicken" every day! The mushroom ziti really hit the spot, rich and delicious. Will be coming back when I visit Wichita again!

I literally just finished my entree. I had the Chipotle Burrito.... and it was incredible. Healthy, filling and DELICIOUS! I will certainly be back!

I have known Chef Miguel since he was at D'sozo and he never ceases to amaze me. He continually creates food that is healthy, delicious, and creative. If you want truly gourmet, homemade food this is the place to go. You can stop in for a simple soup or salad or go all out and try on of his daily specials.

We were touring through KS and found this gem of a restaurant here on Yelp but realized that it would be closed by the time we got there. We called to double check the hours and these wonderful people stayed open for us and served some of the best Vegan food we've had. Their Thai Curry special was amazing and the Garden Grill Salad was lovely. After we paid and thanked Chef Miguel Larcher and his wonderful staff he made us sit down and treated us to the most delicious vegan cheesecake ever! We love this place and we will be coming back. As traveling musicians we judge restaurants on how far out of our way we will drive to eat there. The farthest we have ever considered is 2 hours. We are giving Garden Grill Cafe a 3 hour rating!

My husband and I were THRILLED to find Garden Grill It's a little obscure, and parking is a little hard to find--you have to look for the restaurant!! But, as vegans, it is amazing to eat freely, not check a single ingredient or ask a single question. I do not love curry, so I can't speak for a few things I've tried there. However, their rosemary potatoes, their millet waffles, their muffins, and so many other WONDERFUL things on their menu make us HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY. What a treat. If we lived in Wichita we'd eat there every week. NO joke. Thanks to the owners/chef/etc for providing us with a wonderful, Vegan place to eat!

Expectation: I am also a meat-eater, but was excited to come here because I knew that they had gluten-free options, and generally, I find that vegan/vegetarian restaurants have better quality food. Reality: Totally exceeded expectations. I asked about the gluten-free options and found that nearly the entire menu was gluten-free. I also have corn and tapioca food sensitivities, so I asked about the gluten-free mixes that they used. They brought me the list of ingredients for the bread, the pizza crust, and the pasta! Which was extremely helpful, since two of the mixes I couldn't have. Taste: Absolutely delicious, everything I ate. Lot's of options. The gluten-free bread was great, which is a rarity in the gluten-free world. Environment: Very nice. It felt like Pike's Place Market (of Seattle), since the inside of the building looked like the outside. I supposed it also felt European. Staff: extremely helpful, friendly, and very attentive.

I am so happy that you are back with us!! I loved D'Sozos and shared the great news of your vegan restaurant with a lot of friends. Everyone I know loved it that tried it and most were not vegetarian. I ate at your new place yesterday and was thrilled. Your food is as good as it gets and I know that what I am eating is good for me and made with love. I really like your dining room but the parking was confusing. I will be a regular, thank you so much.

Wichita is lucky to have this place. The food, the smoothies, everything is incredible! I miss the Grilled "Chicken" Sandwich!

I had a great experience at Garden Grill! I was visiting my grandpa in Wichita and was thrilled to find this gem! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful! I ordered the vegan BBQ "beef" sandwich. It was delicious! Even my omnivorous 83 year old grandpa liked it, as well as the sandwich he ordered. The ambience was great--very light and airy. I will definitely return to Garden Grill on my next Wichita visit!

We've been wanting to try this place for some time. Went there today for their Sunday buffet. Very friendly. Nice atmosphere. I loved all their dishes. Look forward to coming back to order off their menus. Wish I could have had a glass if wine though.

My wife and I have eaten at Garden Grill Cafe twice and it is our new favorite restaurant in Wichita. Every dish we've tried has been amazing, and it comes to the table piping hot! The young man who waited on us both times was the friendliest and most helpful waiter we've ever had. And you have to try the Chocoffee. I don't even like coffee, but my wife ordered it and gave me a sip and I love it! It's kind of a coffee dessert drink with chocolate and cinnamon. I also love the building the restaurant is in. It looks like an old courtyard in an old building with kind of a skylight above. And the music they play is very peaceful and relaxing. Please DON'T eat here. I want to make sure there's an empty table for us when we go.

Had one of the best meals of my life here! They had amazing vegan options and I shared three meals with friends. They were are all so freaking delicious! I wanted to come back the next morning. The place itself was quite a hidden gem, it has a random location and you have to enter through the back door, but once you make it in the place is beautiful, open and has great ambiance. There is an actual trained chef working here and the food shows, it all tastes expertly made and just so perfect. The waiter was super friendly and answered any questions we had. Wish I lived closer so I could come eat here for every meal!!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed Chef Miguels food. He's made great food all the way around. He is very creative and had many options. I think the only thing I would change about the restaurant is the menu. Although it's nice to have plenty of options, it is also overwhelming. However, there is something for everyone.

I grew up Seventh Day Adventist. Church every Saturday, Friday sundown to Saturday sundown was our sabbath...and potluck once a month where it was vegetarian only (mostly vegan) fare. My coworker and I were traveling to Wichita to provide a training for the Kansas DV Coalition, and we were starving by the time we landed. Yelped a vegan friendly restaurant and up popped this joint. The second I walked in---I looked to my left and saw "Steps to Christ" and "The Great Controversy." Two of the biggest cornerstone books of the church. We got to our cute little booth and I asked for coffee and the waiter (River) let me know that they don't have coffee with caffeine. And I immediately said---"oh, y'all are Adventist." He let me know he wasn't but the owner was. So I immediately knew 2 things---no caffeine bc of SDA principles and everything was going to be vegetarian. (Yay for me) Fortunately my coworker is super open so she was down. river told us about the buffet (polenta, Indian millet, veggie lasagna, 2 types of soup, potatoes and salad.) so we said, what the hell, let's try it. SO GOOD. Everything was flavorful. The polenta was the best dish. The millet was great. And my coworker got an iced tea---that they brew themselves---very cinnamon based, VERY lightly sweetened and it was SO GOOD. It's cute, it's located inside a building that shares offices, and when you sit down and look up you can see all the office windows. Definitely recommend it! (Oh and they have the SDA church's reading material in every bathroom stall. (Which is a little yucky/unsanitary in my humble opinion) Good, wholesome, solid meal. You will like everything :)

Atmosphere: pretty, quiet, and very nice. Chococoffe: so insanely amazing. Creamy and chocolatey and cofee-y... I mean it's really, really good. Food: also wonderful. I got a sandwich (don't remember what it was though). But it was really tasty and fresh. Staff: kind and helpful. Parking: inconvenient, but worth the trouble.

I'm not a vegan...pretty much a meat and potatoes guy, but I love flavorful food. This place has that in spades. I had a mushroom penne pasta dish that I ordered extra spicy. It was delicious. My sister, who is not the spice freak that I am, ordered the same dish but without the "heat" -- she loved it too. My wife and daughter had the thanksgiving dinner -- the buffet -- and they too were very satisfied. The "turkey," which I also tried, was delicious and the mashed potatoes were very rich. How they do that without butter is a mystery (only because we didn't ask). Bottom line: this place is a little hidden gem of Wichita, tucked inside the oldest commercial building in downtown. Don't think of it as a vegan restaurant...instead go there to have really good food that will stick to your ribs.

So thrilled to find this place. I was concerned if I would find something vegetarian friendly in Wichita, and relieved to find this place. It's really tricky finding the entrance however. If you find the general area and see the sign, just know you will need to walk to the SIDE of the building in order to find the entrance. I was hungry and had such a time finding the entrance that I almost gave up altogether. Now, since I was heading to Hutch, I decided to order a bit more and pack it with me to save for later. I ordered the enchilada special, which was more food than necessary. The kale potato soup had actual kale in it, and was comforting. I also enjoyed a super green smoothie which is really what I was super excited about. Religious harp like music played in the background.

My mom and I came here while I was visiting from San Francisco and we LOVED it. Our waiter, River, was super attentive and friendly. The restaurant itself is super cute with tall ceilings, it feels nice and open. We went all out and ordered a Hawaiian pizza, a salad, soup, and mac n cheese to split. The pizza was great, the crust was perfect. The salad was, well, a salad. Nothing spectacular. But the chilled cucumber soup was the best ever and I'd kill someone to learn how to make mac n cheese like that. It was smoky and creamy and wonderful. This isn't a "eh, it was good for vegan food" sort of place. This food is just hands down delicious for vegans and omnivores alike. We'll definitely be returning every time I'm in town and in the meantime, my mom wants to bring everybody she knows!

I brought my coworkers at lunch and they loved it. I had the Fettuccine Alfredo and a Banango Cinnamon smoothie. It was different for my taste but I just got to try their pasta. It was really good and I am coming back to try their sandwiches and pizza. They have a buffet everyday. and on Sundays they only have buffets.

I am so happy that Wichita Kansas has a vegetarian restaurant like this one! It almost seems that Kansas has no vegetarian places at all, and coming from a place with tons of vegetarian food options, this is very hard to get used to. But I was pleasantly surprised by Garden Grill Café. The executive chef and his workers work speedy, they are very very friendly, And they have very good gourmet meal options with a long menu to fit just about any dietary needs. They are aware of food allergies which is a major plus! They have a menu that can be translated easily gluten-free for anything that you pretty much can ask for. They have gluten-free pizzas, gluten-free pasta, gluten-free dough, and gluten-free bread to make all of the meals that they have available. I am very happy with this place and by the way they have beautiful ambience!!! A perfect place to come if you want to go on a date, go there for just a lunch spot, or just a nice little classy place with some friends. Go there, it is the only place of its class in town!

I haven't been back to Garden Grill Cafe in a while, but I've been meaning to write a review. It's delicious food. Not just vegan food, but delicious food overall. The last time I went was for a reserved Valentine's dinner and it was very romantic and everything was perfectly portioned. I can't go so far as to give the five stars because the very first time I had their bread it was fresh baked right out of the oven and I couldn't eat another one of their sandwiches after that because I was spoiled on the fresh bread experience. The other reason is because sometimes I'll eat there, feel very satisfied with my portion, but then I'll feel kind of hungry later. I'm also a fat girl, so that might have something to do with it. Typically, I used to always order whatever the special was and that never seemed to disappoint me. I really like those big potato wedge fries they have served with tomato paste and the service is super duper friendly.

I had gone there last summer at least four times while visiting! It was great, I had selection of items with my friends. We tried their pastas, sandwiches, pizzas, salads, and buffets! It was all super good food and I knew the chef personally. It's a small place but they are looking into expanding and for good reason too! The cheesecake has got to be the best thing on the menu in my opinion!mi had about three slices last time!

Got the Kalamata Penne Pesto - Best penne pasta I've ever had! Got the chocoffee and it was a pleasant surprise, but the vegan cheesecake was the best cheesecake I've ever had - probably because I don't like cheesecake - very happy experience while passing through town.

Weeelllll, I was (past tense) excited about going here, all the gluten free options seemed like a no brainer. We arrived a little after the lunch rush, the décor was great. The staff was iffy, seated us and had a couple of staff kind of sideways glance us. Finally took our order and were not helpful navigating the choices. There were tracts and paraphernalia on the tables and on the walls. Very distracting and strange, all about eating to reach your spiritual destiny with Christ. The gluten free pizza was really good and the salad was too. Just not a good vibe over all. No one there seemed confortable.

Last Sunday we went for brunch at the Garden Grill Cafe, because the line was WAY too long at Doo Dah Diner. One previous visit had left a good impression of a well-stocked vegetarian/vegan buffet, so we gave it another go. Boy, was this time different! The buffet items seemed to be leftovers from various other meals, and made no sense to me. Oatmeal, enchiladas, bbq beef, some kind of soggy cabbage, and tiny muffins cut in half. Mixed fruit. That was literally it. Weird, and embarrassing to us for having brought out-of-town guests to this "vegan" restaurant. Very disappointed.

As a meat eater, I was unsure what to expect from this place. The girlfriend wanted to go here, and I am open to trying new things. While the building itself looks great, it's almost confusing. The entrance is in the back area. The parking is labeled for specific titles, which can be confusing, but you can ignore them. The interior is quite beautiful. Tall ceilings, and almost has a outdoor feeling to it. We decided to come out here for their Sunday brunch. Our waitress sat us down immediately and got in our drink orders. From there you walk to the buffet and load up on food. I was quite surprised how good the food was. Everything was fresh and restocked on a regular basis. One annoying thing I noticed, was a huge power cable on the floor that someone could trip on. I would suggest that they use a floor cable cover. The one thing that stood out for me the most was the waffles. They were delicious! For vegan food (my first experience), it was quite pleasing. Fruit salad was juicy and sweet. I would like to come back and try out their regular menu offerings, but if you want a good brunch spot to go to, I recommend this place. A bit pricey, at $15/person. Our waitress checked up on us frequently, so service is pretty good.

My review is for the service since I didn't actually get to try the food. I was really excited to try this place because I've never been to a vegan restaurant and I just wanted to try something different. But, to my dismay, I was never acknowledged or greeted when I walked into the restaurant on a Thursday evening. They only have dinner hours on Wednesdays & Thursdays and that's the only time I can go. My fiance and I walked in from the back entrance (the front entrance was already closed), and we walked to the front waiting area and waited to be greeted or seated. Well, we waited for about 15 minutes and the server/hostess never acknowledged us even though I had direct eye contact with her. There were about 4 other tables, and I could see the server was pretty busy, but all that I would've wished was to hear was, "Hi-- I'll be with you in just a minute," or "Hi--sorry, we're kind of busy and there's going to be a wait if you still care to dine here." But NOPE, nothing. As we were walking out, a nice man (I think he was working in the kitchen), was also outside and he did, however, told us to have a nice evening... but I don't think he knew that we didn't even eat.

My mom and I had lunch here today. We both had the lunch buffet, tea and a brownie. We were pleasantly surprised. We both commented on the ambiance, as it feels like you're sitting in a courtyard outside. The food was lovely. The staff were friendly. We'll definitely be back.

Awesome food, not just awesome vegan food! Chef Miguel Larcher and staff prepare and serve an amazing all vegan menu that even onmivores can love. The menu here is larger than the menu at d'Sozo (Chef Larcher's former restaurant) with something for everyone from light salads to filling entrees to delicious deserts. We want to try everything on the menu but keep getting sidetracked by the daily specials which have all been wonderful. Honestly, everything we've tried is very good, most of it amazing. Wichita has needed a great vegetarian/vegan place for a long time and now we have one!

  • Brad S.

I am not a vegetarian, but I enjoy vegetables so much that sometimes people ask me if I am (and they usually do so in hushed tones, afraid of getting an answer they don't like). With this in mind, I don't go to vegetarian restaurants to eat something that might sorta taste like meat if you close your eyes and pinch your nose - I go because I believe that with the proper cooking you don't need meat to carry a meal, and if there's anyone qualified for this task in this city, it's Miguel Larcher. His reputation as the man behind d'Sozo has earned him a good bit of respect, not just because he can cook a good vegan meal, but because he can do it in this grease-stained "waist-land" of Wichita, Kansas. A Caribbean-born graduate of two culinary schools (Martinique and Nice), Larcher certainly has an eclectic background of cuisines to draw from, and though these influences may show themselves in sometimes surprising ways (paprika instead of black pepper on the table, for instance), the menu is disappointingly comprised of mostly the same sort of salads and sandwiches you can find at so many other restaurants around here. Nevermind the fact that Wichita has exactly zero Caribbean or French restaurants (to be fair, they only have one vegan restaurant, too - this one). Still, the increased emphasis on vegetables sets them apart, and though so much of the menu features Boca meats and tofurkey, there are still some plates that don't resort to soy-based excuses. The "steak and frites" is one of them. Portabella mushrooms have been a longtime substitute for non-meat eaters, and grilled up with some flavorful and herbaceous baked potato wedges they were an ample meal in their own right, though only largely due to the heaviness of the potatoes. Some grilled onions and the occasional tomato helped bring some balance and acidity to the dish. Pizzas also take up a substantial amount of space on the menu, so I tried a Greek Lover, with spinach, roma tomato, red onion, kalamata olive, fresh basil, and house veg cheese. Now here is where I assumed "veg" was shorthand for vegetarian, and my research into the subject revealed quite a few cheeses that could be considered vegetarian so long as they didn't include an animal-based rennet to curdle the cheese. Unfortunately, I think the "veg" meant "vegan", and the cheese on the pizza was of a soy-based entity that - while admittedly cheesy-tasting - was more saucy than melty, and turned my pizza crust soggy after a few minutes of sitting. Too bad, too, because the crust was actually quite admirable in texture, even if it lacked the high gluten yield that comes along with the use of bread flour. Honestly, I would have preferred there be no "cheese" at all in this case because the sauce - presumably reused as marinara for the pastas - was heavily spiced, appropriately tasty, and could have carried the pizza by itself. My desire for a vegan restaurant is to be presented with unique and creative ways to eat vegetables so I don't have to worry about the absence of meat. It seems that Garden Grill is more concerned with feeding those vegans that want to taste something similar to meat without the moral indignities. While I don't necessarily agree with that point of view, I'm also probably not their main demographic. Instead, I will offer that Garden Grill provides a competent knowledge of seasoning, spice, and is at their best when they aren't trying to disguise proteins - things like pastas and mushroom-based dishes are the best ways to find a wide appeal.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
