One of the few good breakfast places on the west side of town.

My worst dining experience in Wichita. I want my time and money back! I would've rather stayed at home with a cold bowl of cereal. The food was slightly above average, if that. The service was terrible. Yes, it was busy, but not that busy. I was over charged for my meal. And during my meal, servers kept walking by to see if tables were about finished (glaring at your table while you ate) so they could seat new patrons. If this is Fast Food, then that's what you should call it. Very unpleasant! Overcharged, herded out the door! By the way, I was waiting on YOU to bring my to go box, so, I could leave with the other half of my average food for which I overpaid. How was it, and how much would I like to tip? Thanks for asking in front of the herd of cattle lined up at the door. You got the better of my money and my 20+% tip. I wont be back! And if it's up to me, no one I know will ever endure your "fill in the blank." And the coffee...wasn't good!

As I read one of these reviews on the egg crate I'm confused as to what it is people were looking for. As for me if I'm looking for a place to have breakfast this one is number one in my book in Wichita. Simple and traditional breakfast food. Also options that you won't find it places like Denny's, or other chains of that time. If you're looking to be in and out in five minutes this is not the place to go. The coffee may not be the best on the planet, but it's coffee and a breakfast joint. The biscuits and gravy are outstanding. I've never had a bad breakfast here.

So again.. listen to the yelp.. we found this when looking for a good breakfast place in Wichita.. its in a strip mall of insurance agencies about 15 minutes from downtown.. but totally worth the drive. The service was great. we were greeted by what seemed like a owner who got us our coffee and waters. The place was clean and not cluttered and you could tell there were a lot of regulars. I ordered one of their menu omelettes with sausage and jalepenos. I asked for extra crispy hash browns they listened!!! They were very crispy. I was so happy. The other meal was a custom omelette with crispy potatoes. Both omeletes were fluffy and not overcooked. They were not greasy. I had an english muffin that was served warm and was more than a regular grocery story english muffin. The next time we go to wichita we will go here again. It was really big, with lots of seating, we went to another a popular breakfast place the day before, and had to wait.. this place looked much more able to handle people.

Food is good but you have to be patient , because it takes a long time wait especially during lunch time

Usually very busy on the weekends, the Egg Crate is worth the wait. Great food, pleasant surroundings, pretty good service before noon. After that, it's sketchy.

I like this place for breakfast. My servers have been nice and food is pretty tasty. I am not a fan of them asking how much you want to tip when you're paying, but not that big of a deal.

The food was good. A few things that i would improve on are service and decor. It took about 8 minutes to get greeted by our waitress. She did have a few tables but not an excuse to not greet our table. If she was busy, the manager or another waitress should greet the tables. I had to ask for someone to get order. Our waitress was very nice and helpful.

This is a great spot to grab some wholesome and tasty breakfast. Haven't tried the lunch menu. Eggs benedict was quite tasty! Prices are fair.

Before heading to the zoo on a Saturday morning, we were in need for some breakfast. After driving by two different chain restaurants we started loosing hope for a hot sit down breakfast as the lines were out the door. Thanks to yelp, found The Egg Crate Cafe and walked right in and were seated immediately. The food was good and prices were great.

Is it fair to rate a restaurant poorly because they served me canned mushrooms? Is it fair for me a customer to go to a restaurant and expect a method of preparation of slightly more technical difficulty than opening a can? Especially because so many aluminum cans have that pull tab on the top of them nowadays. You don't even need to find a can opener. I was charged fifty cents for these rubbery little discs of tastelessness, which is probably about what the whole can costs at the supermarket. I can't be sure, though, because I've had more self respect than to eat that quasi-fungi since the first time I ate an actual mushroom. They came in a skillet, which seemed to be the most challenging dish on a simple breakfast menu largely comprised of eggs, pancakes, and waffles. Some onions, peppers, jalapenos and mushrooms sauteed with country fried potatoes and topped with two eggs over easy. The vegetables weren't cooked very well, nor the overly large slices of potato, but the eggs were indeed the over easy I requested, so kudos there. A half order of biscuits and gravy revealed a milk-sweet gelatinous goop covering a biscuit that was undercooked in the middle. People were nice, and there seemed to be a good number of customers in a restaurant that's managed to make it work since 2008, but I suspect The Egg Crate's primary source of success is due to the lack of other breakfast establishments in the rest of the city.

I can't understand how most of the reviews say this is the best breakfast in town...Makes me question what they think is bad. I should've made my breakfast at home...My eggs were undercooked, similar to chewing and swallowing snot. My bacon was the only thing on the plate that had flavor. I had to use TONS of salt to make the food somewhat tasty. Small portions, I left hungry. The restroom was filthy and there was no toilet paper. The hostess was a very young teenage girl with a bad attitude. The waitresses gave great service to the obvious regular customers but basically ignored my and my table. I would never go back and would recommend this place to no one. Save your $25 and make yourself a great breakfast in the comfort of you own home.

A great hidden breakfast stop in a crowded shopping mall area. We arrived on a Sunday around 11 am to find a extremely packed parking lot. So far that is a good sign that people love it here. Inside there's a bit of a seating area if you have to wait and a hostess station. Luckily there wasn't much of a wait time for us. Walking in is sort of a maze, the dining area is small and has partitioned areas with wide long paintings that are bright and vibrant flowers. While the paintings were beautiful, I can't say much about the rest of the place. The walls are dirty, and the ceiling tiles are a sagging ugly brown. This place could use a fresh coat of white paint on the walls and to replace all the ceiling tiles. The menu itself covers breakfast all day on the first 2 pages, and the rest were lunch related items. I ordered the plate with hash browns, 2 scrambled eggs, sausage links, bacon, and a biscuit. For the large amounts of food I got, this was cheap for 6.95. It was all freshly prepared and the hash browns were buttery and delicious. Biscuit was large and crispy on the outside, soft and flaky on the inside. Everything else was great and fresh. My only quip was the orange juice I ordered. It didn't taste freshly squeezed and was most likely the cheap concentrate crap and also it wasn't even cold. I ended up putting some ice cubes from my water into it. I paid about 1.50 for it and was extremely displeased with it. If I'm paying that much for a drink, it better be fresh or a good quality orange juice. Skip the OJ and stick with water or coffee. Service was good and not too intrusive. I will definitely come back to this place next time I'm on the west side and have a hankering for some fresh breakfast. If you think something on the menu won't be enough to fill you up, you will be surprised to see that all their portions are huge. A friend of mine ordered a full order of biscuits and gravy and couldn't finish it all.

Tried to call in an order today and was disconnected when employee put us on hold. This has happened before. But they lost our business today, because they don't seem to get take our orders correct. They need someone assigned to answer phone and take the orders on weekends! Can't be working cash register and trying to take an order. Food is good.

Not big on visual appeal but an average small town feel diner. Outside is bland but they did try to warm it up with potted flowers. Inside had a confusing decor; art on walls, tacky concrete floor(as in it looks like carpet got ripped up and that's it), chicken statues and plain Jane wooden tables. Service was friendly(minus talking about their personal business out in the open), food was typical diner minus the hash browns; choose the fried potatoes over them, they were hard and chewy. Cheap prices though. Has potential.

This is our regular spot on the weekends. Their food is always very good. The skillets are incredible. Ruth who runs the register is a wonderful woman!

I ordered the French Toast combo and my son ordered hash brown and country fried potatoes. The French Toast was decent. My son son's country fried potatoes was more like boiled potatoes. Overall all I left hungry still.

If I could give this place zero stars I would! The dining room was filthy; food on the wall next to the table, sticky table, etc. The food that I ordered came out quickly enough, however it was completely UN edible! It was so greasy and looked like someone had already tried eating it and failed miserably! I was unable to get the attention of my server (or anyone else for that matter). We left without taking a second bite. However, we still paid for the $30 worth of UN eaten slop/food??? I will be notifying the health department. I honestly don't know how this place has managed to remain open. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! We ended up going to Spangles, and had a delicious breakfast for under $10.

service is not good. Its not bad. its a 2 star service. the wait staff does just enough to do their job and nothing more. Food has gotten average and small portions.

Standard breakfast fair. Nice employees. Pretty decent coffee. There aren't a lot of breakfast places on the west side, so this one does its duty.

We are from out of town and just randomly found this place. All I can say is yum! The service was wonderful, downright charming. The food was delicious and not greasy at all. If I lived closer, I would certainly become a regular.

Plain farmhouse decor (if I had to categorize it) Good to Great Service Standard Food There is nothing to special about this place. You will get service and decent food. Pick this place over The Beacon, Denny's or IHOP, Village Inn might be debatable only because they have much more to offer on their menues. This could be a combination of or categorized with Jimmy's Egg and Jimmies Diner. They are very similar. A little on the greasy side, no presentation value, but is priced accordingly. They love to heavily butter their bread here and I secretly enjoy it. No particular menu item really sticks out for me or my friends here. Its just greasy style home cooking. Not as greasy as The Beacon though. They are usually busy on weekends and it seems that old folks like to frequent this place.

I love this place. Delicious breakfast that's quick and cheap. I've been several times and I'm always impressed. They are busy on the weekends, but I've never had to wait longer than 10 minutes.
