I had high hopes when I saw something called an "inside-out" burger on the menu, my mind going to the Juicy Lucys of Minneapolis, and while it didn't turn out the way I'd hoped, it was still different in a way that set it at least a little bit apart from the burgers upon burgers that Wichita traditionally has to offer. The buns were reversed, so the majority of the bun's surface area was turned outwards. They were buttered and toasted like you would expect from a grilled cheese sandwich. While this doesn't sound too exciting, the great toasting the buns received on the grill gave it a very nice buttery and toasty flavor that you don't normally get from the average burger. It was a moment of inspiration that benefited the average small patty that was contained within. Other reviews will tell you this 1/3 lb patty is well seasoned and dressed as you might expect, and while the grilled onions do add a bit of grease that starts to make things a bit soggy, I was able to put the burger down and pick it up again without the entire thing falling apart, which is more than I can say from eating at Five Guys. Nothing but burgers are found here, which is also probably to Annex's benefit, as it saves me from having to complain about soggy fries. You get a small bag of generic potato chips with your burger, and that's good enough for the $4.50 it costs. It's certainly a dive bar (one that wasn't event serving alcohol during my visit thanks to a temporary snafu with the liquor license), but the burger is enough to draw in a lunch crowd.

An instant favorite. The inside-out burger is delicious. They are a bit limited on beer, but they make up for this with excellent service, food, and overall experience. They have an older jukebox, a small outdoor patio, and a shuffle board. The staff is incredibly friendly and makes you feel like a regular even if it's your first visit. This is a warm dive bar which will most likely become a regular stop.

Stopped by today for a burger for lunch. Ordered a Pepsi but low and behold they only had Coke products, so I had ice water. Ordered a double cheese burger with pickles, tomatos, mustard and fried onions, It also comes with chips. The patties are about 1/3lb each and had 2 slices of cheese and It had a good flavor. I enjoyed the burger but the fried onions did make the bun a little soggie. May go for the raw onions next time. The whole thime was just $5.25, a very fair price. Not a great burger but good!

Burgers here are very good. Hot and fresh, they cover the bun and have ample thickness. No fries, just chips but that saves on the filler and leaves more room for meat. Definitely worth the trip.

The Annex Lounge is a great dive bar on the east side. The crowd is pretty friendly and they have free popcorn. But the thing that sets the Annex apart from other great dive bars is the hamburgers. I get a bacon burger with jalapenos that is superb. I would put it against any burger in any bar in the midwest.

This review is strictly pertaining to the burgers. This bar is definitely a dive bar and I have never gone here to drink. I've gone here a few times for lunch and for 3.75, you can get a 1/3 lb, cheeseburger with fried or grilled onions. This burger is the best burger you can get on the eastside in Wichita. I've heard there's a bar called the Oasis on the westside that has a comparable burger but have never tried. Stop in sometime and give it a try. Some days, the lunch wait might take a while but definitely give this place a try for their burgers!
