Great service. Our waiter Shayne was awesome. All the employees were friendly and happy. The recommended lunch special was perfect size. The manager Travis came and checked on us to make sure our lunch was good. We would come back.

We eat a lot of barbecue! From Texas to Oklahoma to Missouri! typically- 1. I case the parking lot-drive around back to make sure it's authentic, as in smoked, meaning that they have some sort of wood be that mesquite, pecan, cherry, hickory or some sort of smoker, 2. The smell test, must be able to smell that smoke. If 1 and 2 pass then I'm all in. I ordered a 2 meet sandwich. Hot-link/brisket and a side of sweet mashed potatoes. The potatoes came in a container for what you might get a scoop of ranch sauce in. The bun was appealing, the sauce was ok, the brisket was ok but I'm not sure about the hot-link, there were 3-4 small shavings of what I think was a hot-link. Good service but for $12 I need a bit more.

Went here for dinner and had the 1/2 slab of their award winning ribs which comes with 2 sides and found them to be tender and flavorful. The portion was large for one person and I could barely finish. There are also 6 different types of sauces to try ranging from hot to sweet. Overall not fall off the bone good but excellent none the less.

We got the platter with a little bit of everything. It fed 3 adults but it was nothing to write home about. The catfish appetizer was definitely a get-again! Service was fine. I prefer the Famous Dave's in KC. All the food is scrumptious there!

Husband went to pick up some BBQ from Famous Dave's and brought it home. First time ever going there. We got the appetizer of burnt ends, a full slab of ribs and a chopped pork sandwich. The burnt ends were not good. They were not cooked enough and were very chewy. I ate one piece and stopped. My husband said the ribs were not cooked long enough. Hard to get off the bone and chewy. The chopped pork sandwich had maybe three regular sized pieces of pork and the rest were crumbs that looked like they had just swept off cutting board and put on sandwich. Very very small pieces and not much meat on sandwich. This all cost $45 which was ridiculous. We will not be going back. EVER.

Famous Dave's was out of cornbread muffins today. This restaurant is one of the most poorly managed restaurants in all of Topeka. Also, I went there with a group for Valentine's Day, there were 30 people in the lobby waiting for tables, yet there were five or six open tables. When we asked the greeter about this, we were told that they didn't want to overburden the kitchen with too many orders at one time. If you can't plan for a big business day like Valentine's Day by increasing staff, you don't deserve my business. I like Famous Dave's but this Famous Dave's in Topeka is woefully mismanaged!

ok if you want an average overpriced meal you have to wait forever to get. If you want real BBQ, go to Grovers

Went here to celebrate a friend's birthday - it was our (husband and I's) first time. There was no wait and the waitress was patient while we pondered over the menu - it all looked good. We ended up getting the All-American BBQ Feast® - so the 4 of us could try a little of everything. It was a lot of food and no one left hungry. The "Feast" was served on a metal trash can lid. Kinda a strange twist, but we're supposing they're clean, right? According to their website "We serve our BBQ Feasts on the lid of a garbage can because that was Dave's very first backyard smoker." It was set on top of a whirly-gig so we could spin it around and each of us pick off what we wanted. Easy serving is always nice. And, they provided little lemon scented wet-naps for after the meal. So, we sampled quite a variety. Nothing was bad, nothing was spectacular or memorable. Ribs are the bar I judge a new BBQ joint on, and although the flavor of them was pretty good, they weren't fall-off-the-bone tender. Kinda had to work at it to get the meat loose. Not a big deal, but definitely not the best I've ever had. The chicken also - good flavor, but kinda dry. The brisket was tasty, but again, just not the best I'd ever had. Something special Dave's does is offer a selection of sauces to go with the meats. I think there were 8 different sauces at the table, ranging from "Sweet" and mild to "Devil's Spit" and "Wilbur's Revenge" which I can only imagine are blazing hot BBQ sauces. I didn't try any of them this go-round as I wanted to really taste their product and not coat it with anything... And, I like the flavor of smoked or BBQed meat all by itself. So, we'll prob'ly go back again, with friends who like it or as a spur of the moment thing, but we'll try something totally different next time and see if the results are better. For those of you who are claiming this is the "BEST" in town, (not one of you gave Dave's 5 stars?) you should hear about this locally owned place in Pauline - out by Forbes Field that has AMAZING ribs that are truly something special...

This is by far the best BBQ place that I have found in Topeka. They have a great lunch special for $7 which includes corn on the cob, corn muffin, 1 BBQ meat, bread, and a side. For an extra $1 you can add another meat option to your platter. They have about 8 different sides to choose from ranging from the fire cracker beans to the garlic or sweet mashed potatoes to the amaretto apples. They also have 4 different kinds of BBQ sauce at the table that ranges from sweet to a spicy "Devil's Spit". If you are not into BBQ sauce ( who wouldn't be in a BBQ place ), then you have ketchup and a special mustard sauce as well. The portions are fairly generous and the staff is very friendly. This place gets busy at lunch so it may take up your entire lunch hour, but otherwise, service is very quick.

We came in for a quick lunch and left 2 hours later. We ordered ribs as we had heard they had good ribs. Mine came out charred as in charcoal on a bone. The part of the rib that could be consumed was dry and tough. In contrast, my wife's ribs were tender and tasty. Our server warned us that if we returned the Ribs for good ones a manager would come and challenge us on whether the ribs were edible. Sure enough a manager showed up and agreed our ribs were burnt crispy. She.said they come to the table for a couple reasons. One to see what issues the kitchen has, and secondly to control food costs, My replacement ribs were good, and the sides were okay, As we continued to eat, our server sat down and started sharing her life story, I am not sure if she was tip fishing, or just bored.

As far a Topeka BBQ goes, this is the best. Compared to BBQ everywhere, just average. Most of the food is good enough to satisfy an itch for 'que in a town with under-performing BBQ joints, but just not true enough to the art of BBQ. On this visit I had the hot links and brisket sandwich. Brisket wasn't dry, as most places are, and the hot links were pretty good. The sauces seem to be too much . . . something. They are out of balance with the sweet being too sweet and the hot being too flavorless. They're not horrible, just not quite right. Wait staff is a bit over-enthusiastic, dining room is a bit frigid, parking and access is a bit congested, etc. This restaurant is a good solid bet for a decent meal, but not a home run.

rib tips appetizer was excellent as my meal, but wife said the barbecue sauces had a 'metallic aftertaste'.
