This place has phenomenal bbq. I'm a pulled pork guy but they sure pulled me over to the brisket side. Probably the best brisket I've had. The smoked turkey is also pretty good. Will definitely be coming back.

Brisket and pulled Pork were fantastic. beans, could have been better. Fries were good and sweet potatoes fries were great. Over all a great bbq experience in Topeka.

We hit Kansas with a vengeance and went to take our picture in front of the State Capital, but a side effect of that was a hunger i've felt few times before (mostly in long roadtrips and last i had really taken a 10 hour one was about 8 months ago). We had gone to Oklahoma City and had one of the best burgers in recent memory at a restaurant there, and being from Texas i wanted to see what kind of BBQ Kansas had to offer. After checking a few things and talking with some friends they all recommended a little place called Big'Un's Grill. We put up the address on the phone and headed towards our destination. Upon getting there we were greeted with a very warm smile by the girl at the counter, she explained they were all out of Smoked Chicken and apologized but told us the Turkey would be a great replacement if we were looking to get that. I got the Meats plate which consisted of 3 kinds of meat and two sides. I went for the pulled pork, the brisket and the turkey. We were given our drinks and a few minutes later they came with our plate and i must say, it looked heavenly. The brisket still had that lovely char to it and the cut was more than a decent size. The turkey looked juicy and it was. As for the pulled pork it was good but i found a tad too much fat in mine for my liking. The flavor of the meats was really good, and the size for the price paid seemed more than enough, but the true hero here was the BBQ sauce. The sweet aroma coming from those little containers mixed with just a right touch of spice (i prefer spicier BBQ but that's just a personal thing) made this by far the best BBQ sauce i have tried at a restaurant. The only thing that can keep me from giving this place 5 stars? The sides; the mac and cheese was nothing great and tasted a bit like cafeteria style mac and cheese, and the cole slaw although the dressing tasted home made the slaw itself had too much of a refrigerated taste to it making it seem like it was store bought instead of made in house. If you are ever around the area i would highly recommend this place if you have a knack for some good BBQ.

I've been here several times and it's pretty good, though the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. I'm a fan of barbecue, but I don't want to smell like smoked meat for the rest of the day. The service is a little lackluster as well - always sour faces at the counter when I've been. The place always seems pretty crowded and does well with the downtown lunch crowd.

Heard so many good things and was terribly disappointed. I got a 3 meat platter. The pulled pork was acceptable, the ribs were tender and juicy, but lacking any flavor or seasoning at all, and the brisket wasn't brisket at all, but just an attempt at smoking a beef roast. Yes I am a BBQ snob, so I won't go back.

I had a sweet as heck smoky meat suite made out of dark and white turkey in log form and smoked that way! When it arrived at the table I said, "Didn't I order the turkey?" It looked different. That's when I learned I was set to eat the Vegas of turkey vacations! In short, I dug it...I felt like a winner! But, everyone is right. It was way too smokey in there. Once they buy a smoke exhaust fan, they'll likely regain any lost fans. The meat was GOOD, and I'm headed back. I like Big'uns!

To start off, the place looks like a dump and it almost makes you afraid to try. But don't let this fool you! I ordered the Big'uns Sammich with brisket (very tender and smokey tasting) and it was really good! They toasted the bread which is an added bonus for me! The babeque sauce is sweet with some spice and I licked the container clean!

avoid. Dining area so smoke filled, it requires sitting & breathing in a thick haze. I'm NOT a fan of sweet BBQ sauces, and this tasted of the cheap store bought version. Brisket was dry & unyielding. Whatever flavor might've existed was obliterated by the poor sauce. Grovers - worse than this place Boss Hawgs - good meat flavor. If you like sweet sauces, then a good option for you Lonnie's - similar to Boss Hawgs in quality, better atmosphere. Pacha's by the Pound - it's a food truck so no atmosphere, but the owner is a trained chef and ALL the items are flavor full. Best BBQ in town by far.

really good food but you leave the place smelling really bad. the smell gets in your clothes, your hair, and everything. After a lunch there I had to take a shower and wash my clothes, including my winter coat to get the smell of this place off. it is really good food though so I guess you have to choose what's important to you.

I agree excellent smoke flavored meat no barbecue sauce needed. Nothin fancy here doesn't need it the meat speaks for itself moist and tender . At 6 p.m. They were sold out of sausage and chicken so I settled for pulled pork brisket and ribs with a side of fries and beans I will do the chicken and sausage on the next go around I felt like the barbecued beans fell a little short but by no means was I disappointed.

You know when you walk up to a place and it smells like BBQ, it's gonna be good. Then you walk in and it smells even better. Big'Uns Grill caught my eye when it first opened, since I drive by it every day, so when I moved over to Potwin, I had to try it. It's a no frills, down home, good 'ol friendly REAL BBQ joint that you can relax in. Don't like blaring TV's and loud overhead emo music, Big Un's is the place for you. None that that here, you can actually hear yourself think. Got kids, they are very welcome there and the patrons are of all ages. The portions are big, the smoke rings are deep and the "bark" is delicious. I've not yet finished my meals, leftovers for the next day buddy. I've had the the brisket, sausage and pulled pork so far and it's just dang good. The ownership is very friendly and you get your food quick. They serve breakfast, which I plan on going back for. My favorite side is the creamed corn. Go support a great neighborhood BBQ place. The ownership will smoke meat for you like hams for the holidays and get you a mess of BBQ for parties. Get 'R Dun @ Big Un's

Based off the review of a respected foodie friend, my husband and I decided to give this restaurant a shot. We pulled in, about 6:30, on a Monday evening. From the parking lot, I noted the windows looked like the needed cleaning. When we got inside, there was a table of four eating and a haze of wood smoke hanging in the air - that's what was causing the windows to look hazy from the outside. It smelled fantastic, but gave the place a dingy feel. We walked up to the counter and peered at the menu. This place hasn't been open for too long - maybe 6 months or so at the time of this review. The menu had items covered up and scratched thru, with a dry erase side board with a list of foods they were out of for the day. This night, it was beans and burgers. I was beginning to have my doubts at this point, but we forged ahead and ordered a 3 meat plate and a 6 ribs to split between us. The two sides we picked were macaroni and cheese (in place of our initial choice of beans) and sweet potato fries. We paid and went to sit down. The tables had a very rustic feel to them - shelacked wood. As we waited, I investigated our surroundings. Very rustic. Very down home feel. This place used to be a bar, and a coffee shop, then a bar, and grill and bar before it was Big'Un's. Kinda looked like the removed everything from the previous owners and got down to the nitty gritty bare bones of the structure. As I started poking around on my phone to check into this place, the food came. (On plastic plates with plastic utensils. This is not fancy dining here.) And, from the first bite of pork, I knew we'd found a hidden treasure in Topeka. Wow. OhMyGoodness, this was some fantastic smoked meat. It didn't need BBQ sauce as it as just fine on it's own. Yummy. Carnivore heaven. Brisket, ham, ribs. All fantastic. More than we could finish in one sitting. And the sweet potato fries - incredible. I thought they looked burnt, but they were not. They were soft and fluffy inside and fried to perfection on the outside. Amazing. The Mac and Cheese? Nah - I wouldn't order it again. It just wasn't anything spectacular. I wish I could have tried the beans. Maybe next time. As we ate, several more groups of people came in to get their food. Some got it to go, some stayed and ate. I'm glad they're getting some good business. We are **so** going back here - even though we totally smelled like wood smoke after we left. The prices were reasonable and the food was top notch. If they can get some decent ventilation and a bit of character in their decor, I'll boost it to five stars. Still, I'm a fan. And, it's locally owned - I'm pretty sure the owner took our order - and it tasted great. My husband wants to try their breakfast - they open at 6am, and I can't wait to share this place with all my friends.

Came in for a quick bite with my kid. I got the brisket sandwich and fries. Son got a regular hot dog. Sandwich had meat a plenty and flavor/quality was really good. The sauce that came with it really nice, savory with a hint of sweet. Fries were made fresh and tasty. Son ate all of dog and quickly which for him is a good sign. As another reviewer stated, my only negative experience was over the amount of haze from wood smoke inside the eating area. My young son even asked what the fog was. It's smell is strong (not in a pleasant way to me at all) and I wanted to get up to open the doors several times while eating. Prices are very reasonable. Will definitely be back again. Would love to see a better ventilation system or at least the doors open on and off so the smoke can clear out by next visit.
