I just received the BEST SERVICE from sweet Lindsey! What a great gal! The atmospheres here at Tanners is really fun and creative, decorated in the "whole bunch of crazy crap on the walls" concept-- but with lots of large screen televisions and a sports theme.

It doesn't surprise me that the reviews for this Tanner's range from 2 to 4 stars. It's a favorite hangout for some of our friends, so we end up here more frequently than I would like. For the most part, I think the food is ok, especially if you are craving a burger or chicken strips. There's usually a pretty decent drink special too. The staff is somewhat inconsistent, but most of the servers do well enough. If you are looking for decent food and a TV to watch a big game, this is a pretty good location. It's especially good for KU fans who enjoy nachos. You can't go wrong with Jayhawks or the nachos.

Not bad, not great. Food is so-so bar food. Service at the bar is attentive, however table service is spotty. Went in one Saturday night to find many uncleared tables, despite not being that busy. They could be better, just need to work on the table service.

It's pretty much a no brainer this place has 2 stars or less. The food is okay as far as bar food goes. The service was mediocre at best. We sat at a table for about 10 minutes while waitresses cleaned tables and helped other guests. We moved to the bar to actually get service. Sad when making money is based off tips and the fact that a waitress looks right at you and STILL doesn't come to the table is very disappointing. The gal behind the bar was pleasant and very attentive. Kudos for her doing what she's supposed to. I would say, go at your own risk. However, prepare to wait....even when it's not busy.

Really divey, dark feel to the place. Not a whole lot of options for late drinks besides it in the nearby area otherwise would try some place else.

It totally amazes me that this place stays busy. I guess it is all on the Tanners name. Have been here several times and the service has always been horrible - I've never felt like I was bothering someone so much to walk into their establishment before. Food at this location has never measured up to any of the others I've gone to. Bad service and below mediocre (?) food - yet they keep busy... It's got to be the location with little other options -

Decent food. Horrible horrible service. I ordered my food, it was wrong so I asked the waitress to redo it. No problem she was nice and all. When it came out wrong again I was getting hungry and upset. Said forget it. And told her I didn't want it. She started getting mad. When the check came she charged me for the food (even though I didn't eat it) and drinks (didn't even discount one of them from our whole table). I asked her and she said her manager wouldn't let her discount anything since she left my bad food on the table and didn't take it back. So I left her only a 10% tip (I usually leave 20-25) and she got upset and confronted me about it. I got so pissed I almost took the 10% back. I will not return.

Well we've since returned to this location for a Friday night dinner and they seem to have redeemed themselves. The food we've had so far has been good (except for that one time we couldn't get any) and I've become quite the fan of those loaded fries. The part of me that tries to eat healthy doesn't want to know any part of what they're loaded with! Because of that one supremely bad experience, I don't walk out lightly, the best I can do is 3 stars. Had that never happened, you'd be looking at a solid 4.

Fairly decent food. I've been here a couple of times now. Service is always very good and fast. There are a lot of TVs if you want to catch a game.

Seemingly average neighborhood sports bar. Waitress had no clue what beer or drink specials were. Food was standard bar fare, only they clearly rely exclusively on frozen ingredients. Wings were below average and lacked flavor. The boneless wings slathered in the sweet chili sauce were tolerable. Sliders again lacked flavor and any additional toppings above cheese and a pickle. The French fries that accompanied the sliders were the only well-seasoned item, though they were far from fresh. I'd go back to watch a game, but that's about it.

Tanner's is your average bar and grill, serving decent food in a casual atmosphere. However, their wait staff seems to be a little incompetent, not knowing specials or taking quite a lot of time to even take an order since it's first come, first served on seating. Tonight was an especially bad night. Having arrived at10:30 to get a late night bite to eat and watch the end of the thunder game, we waited 10 min before a server could attend to us. When we finally did see a server we were then told that the kitchen was closed. We found this very odd, but left anyway without ordering anything. I called back 5 min later to find out that their kitchen was still open, but I guess our waitress didn't feel like working. Needless to say, I can't see us returning any time soon

I am a fan of Tanner's all around, because, let's face it, they are a KU bar. Enough said... well not really. I chose this particular location for my going away party. It was packed when everyone got there around 8:30 on a Saturday night. There were no spots for anyone, so I was a little frightened that my party would be ruined. However, the server said she would clean up some tables in the back room right away. She even did it herself, which I find absolutely amazing. We got our table for around twenty people in about 15 minutes. The server we had was awesome, she wasn't one of those frazzled snotty types either. Every couple minutes, there she was, alert and ready to serve us more and more alcohol, as much as we could afford I guess. Anyway, the party was great, the server was great, and I ordered food which was bar food. But it's a bar. They serve bar food at bars. Hello.

I went to Tanner's last night and let me tell you, they won't care if this review is bad because they were packed. The typical Tanner's customer will not care if the food is mediocre and the waitstaff is slow. As long as there is a big enough place with lots of tvs and beers, then they will come. It seems like Tanners is the local hangout spot for single, middle age people to come watch a game, hang out with buddies, or try and meet someone. There's nothing wrong with that at all. With that being said, as far as hangout spots go, I prefer ones with good food.

We had one of the worst experiences on a Thursday nite! A group of 3 couples came in and basically took over part of where my family was sitting, waiting for our dinner. They were loud and obnoxious and started yelling and cussing. We moved tables to eat, but were still in the back room. The noise from the Pop a shot was noisy, but the group was awful. We complained to the management, but the only thing they seemed to do was comp our dinner.

This is a bar before it is a grill! Nothing spectacular, the service is bland and the drinks are fair priced. I can say they are always busy with construction workers throughout the day and they tempt families at the dinner hour but I would never take my kids there, the yocals can't behave themselves. The wife and I get there from time to time for drinks since it is in the neighborhood but twice now some douchebag hillbilly has tried to move in on our table when I go to the restroom. On this visit, they had a band with two dudes doing their best to look like Jason Aldean and doing their best to not suck - they failed! Not much for selection in West Shawnee, we go here when we are tired of the other two bars out here.

Went for lunch with the wife. She had a chicken sandwich I had "Lot-O-Nachos". It was around $18 with tea and water. The nachos seemed really bland to me, ok but not worth $8 for. We go here every once in a while, and I think we need to decrease the occurrences...

I'd have to say that Tanner's is about average out here in western Shawnee. The service can be a bit slow and the food isn't bad, but it's nothing stellar either. The waitresses we've had the last couple times have been mostly inattentive, drinks slow to refill and food taking a wee bit longer than it should for a place that is usually not packed unless there is a K-State or KU game going on. I've had to ask for the bill the last two times. The food is generally ok, the onion "rings" in the menu are onion "strings." Boogas (burgers) are good, the crinkle fries about what you'd expect from a bag of Ore-Ida. I'd say that if you're looking for a great place to see a local game (or football on Sunday) and get your drink on, it's a decent place to hang out, but I wouldn't come for just the food alone. I am a little discouraged to see not much improvement since Samantha's review over a year ago.

OK, so tanners food is tanners food, although I am partial to the chicken lips. BUT my issue with them, and in particular this location, is the complete lack of interest of their serving staff to, in fact, serve. It seems that they detest physical labor and feel that when you walk in, you should seat yourself, and them wait for one of them to extract their head out of their ass long enough to get you a menu and perchance a fucking coke. I went here last week and the server just left in the middle of her shift after taking awhile to get drinks (sodas, not mixed) and then today it was a battle royale for them to NOTICE I was there and draw straws to see had to wait on us 2, and then bring us menus, after they all turned around and looked at us from afar, and discussed who HAD to take the table at noon on a Thursday. They werent busy, there were at least 4 servers, and they dont want tips, apparently. I was a waitress back in the day, so Im not some elitist. But they call it a JOB for a reason.

Wow I'm surprised how negative some of the reviews are! It is a bar and grill, with bar and grill food. We've been a few times because we live so close and had good service, hot food that tasted fine, and not paid a ton. Nothing to write home about, but just fine for a local watering hole.

Packed, hostesses say, "sit where ever" mainly because we are too busy talking to one another so you wander around with your family looking for somewhere to sit. Messed up food order, average food for $60 dollars and the runner from the kitchen needs to find a job she likes. I am getting sick of eating/drinking establishments in Johnson County thinking they have a captive audience.

I love this place. Food is great...and staff is friendly. Great place for a reasonable dinner with your drink of choice.

I'll hand it to Tanner's - when they build a new one, people come. When their Shawnee location opened in spring '08, local residents eagerly formed long lines and filled the parking lot. Now, just a few months later, you never have to wait more than a minute or two for a table. I'd guess it's the wait staff that's put a damper on Tanner's business. I've had service ranging from mediocre to downright bad, and even though they should have the just-opened bugs out, the waitresses aren't getting any better. It's not rocket science to bring appetizers out before dinner, or to remember more than one request at a time from your table. Maybe that's why there are so many TVs - at least you have something to watch while you wait. Some of Tanner's hostesses need additional training too, because one of them seated my high-school age daughter and her friend for dinner, even though nobody under 21 is allowed to enter without a parent after 5 p.m. It's not that big of a deal to have evening age restrictions, but it's nice to let your customers know before they sit down. With four locations each on both sides of State Line and restaurant number nine in Omaha, Tanner's seems to be going strong. But if another bar and grill with average food and better-than-average service opens nearby, they'll give the Shawnee location a run for its money.

I ordered the "Strawberry Spinach" salad and did not receive a "Spinach" salad. Instead of the "Spinach" I got spring mix. The reason I ordered this salad was for the "Spinach". Not sure how they can mix up this salad when the name of it clearly states it's a "Spinach" salad unless you specify a substitution otherwise. There were only ~10 customers in the restaurant at the time so it wasn't busy. I've also been to this Tanners 50+ times and have tried and tried and given many many chances on the KC Strip Steak, but have finally given up on it. The steak is always either under-cooked or over-cooked (I order the steak medium rare each time). My friend and I have even ordered the KC Strip at the same time and same temperature (medium-rare) and both steaks come out with one under-cooked and one over-cooked (even received a well done steak when medium rare was ordered). Again...not sure how that happens and you'd think they'd get the temps right when the KC Strip is their Thursday special. I've also ordered a glass of wine and it was served with lipstick/gloss on the glass...that was not mine of course :( Although, I've been disappointed in the past, I'll continue to go to my neighborhood bar and grill because the bar staff is very friendly and attentive. That's probably the only reason I continue to go to this Tanners. That's it...I won't vent anymore and complain even though I'll continue to go to this Tanners, but of course not for the food.
