We went to eat at this location on a weeknight and completely regretted it. They were way understaffed and we literally watched an elderly couple wait 10 minutes by the wall for the waitress to clear at least one table so they could sit down. Then we watched another family of 5-6 get their plates of food from the bar and stand beside another table waiting for the waitress to clear that table. It was disgusting. Looking out over one-half of the restaurant, for the duration of our meal, there were no empty, clean tables available for guests. It seemed that they were more focused on singing happy birthday to guests that night, than they were with providing service (clearing tables, refilling drinks, etc). The food we tasted was probably about right for the price, but the dessert bar was a complete disaster - plates of half-cut cakes, random pieces of desserts on the counter, and cold desserts (that were supposed to be hot). This fact showed the lack of care on the employees part, but also the guests - they took no care in leaving the food bar clean after they helped themselves. The only way we might return to this restaurant would be if we were with a group of friends and wanted a cheap place to eat AND if management had their act together and managed their workers properly.

Ok, its been too hot to cook at home, and you don't really want to get out and drive around either. When you can't figure out what you want for dinner or can't agree on something, I thought a visit to Ryan's might be the answer. At least it has a salad bar, which was something I wanted. All their signs are for all-you-can-eat for $10.39. Drinks however are an extra charge. I had been here before many moons ago, and don't remember having to pay extra for the drinks. I'm not sure if this place has gone downhill or if my dining expectations have heightened. Like I said. I had been here before and thought it was a pretty good place for what it is...I don't expect 5 star food from a buffet line. What I did get was poor..The fried chicken looked good but was only luke warm. Many fish based items I shyed away from. Looked like it had laid too long on display. .Seafood needs to be fresh for me to want it. Vegetables were all mushy and seasonless-potatoes were all dried out. The salad bar was the only saving grace. But it too had its faults...the choices of toppings were limited to say the least. Non-lettuce salad offerings were almost non-exsistant. But I made it work. The dessert bar was almost bare, with empty plates where things had not been replaced. At 5pm dinner hour that is unacceptable. All in all I made due with the few things that I actually ate, and two trips to the lettuce bar. I think they should change their sign from All-you-can-eat to All-you-can-stomach.

we went on Friday night at 6:30pm. first there were no napkins on both sides plate area and it was a mess. next they were out of rolls and honey butter. the ice cream machine was broken. needless to say, for a Friday nite holiday weekend dinner it spoiled the mood... food was so-so too. won't go back its off our list.

Extremely unclean, utensils and plates had stuck on food. There were dirty plates and old food under the buffet tables. I felt as if I was eating in a truck stop restroom. The food was better than an MRE, but not by much. Food quality definitely not worth the price. The staff was okay for the quality of this place. The owner/management should be ashamed. If you have a choice, don't eat here.

We needed to feed a large group with different good preferences and several children. Everyone was satisfied. Nothing Super outstanding but nothing terrible. Basically it served is purpose! Fyi- the flavor of the steak was great. .. but we couldn't chew it :/

I remember when this place switched their name to Fire Mountain. Why? I have no idea. I think it actually suffered a loss of business because people actually preferred Ryan's. The food stayed the same but the name recognition was lacking. They finally wised up and changed the name back and business is back up. I have mixed feelings about this place. Sad to say most everyone here is elderly or obese. The people that I come here with are diabetic and I am sure that this place does not help their cause. What can I say though, the food is decent and everyone gets what they want and they have the option to change on the fly. Not a bad gig for $7.92 (tax included) w/a drink. If you end up coming here there are plenty of greens, fruit, baked meats to keep the healthy streak going. Not all is lost coming here. The staff is great and they work hard for small tips. The only thing that bothers me is Touching a serving utensil after someone else has touched it. Take some hand sanitized with you if you are a germaphobe. A solid message!

The best thing about this place is our server Marvin. Marvin was top notch! The floors (carpet) are sticky to walk on. Yes, as in my tennis shoes are sticking and it's nasty. The bathrooms are horrible, and you can smell sewage from the dining area. My husband and I tried 6 times to get a steak cooked properly. But no, not even close. Come on! They no longer have an ice cream machine either... what? Everything from the mac and cheese to the okra was so over cooked you couldn't eat it. I just waisted $23 on food that sucks more than McDonalds. This place used to be my favorite place to come and eat with my family (of 9 people). However in the last few years it's gotten so bad I will not be returning.

Went Saturday night around 6:30pm busy place. Had a hard time finding an clean table. Once we made our way around a time or two we found a place to sit. The floor was pretty dirty. Once we got up to get some grub the choices were far and few between. Most items empty or uninviting. One bright spot was the steak small but actually not too bad. I went with my two kids one 11 other 16 they got mac and cheese and mash potatoes can't go wrong with them. The rolls were pretty tasty. I tried the salad bar and the lettuce was half full so I thought great I can get a decent salad but boy was I wrong everything else was empty or had so much of the other items in the container it was actually disgusting wondering who's plate or mouth they fell off and landed in there. Our family will not be coming back. Very disappointing $50.00 meal for 3 adults and one child priced meals.

Absolutely terrible. Expensive. $11.00 not including tax or beverage. Food lukewarm. The corn day old. Roast beef well done. When I asked for my water after 10 minutes, the server said it quote wasn't her job and quotes I complain to the manager and he gave me a half hearted quote sorry and quote. I will not step my foot across the threshold of the store again.

This was a toss up between 1 star or 2. Ultimately, my experience wasn't TERRIBLE so congrats! you get a second star. We went at lunch time. the food was totally underwhelming (And I didn't have high expectations) and they seriously lacked variety. When we walked in and I saw the amount of buffet space, I perked up. But then I realized 2 of the 4 main buffet areas were for salads. Okay, that seems a little excessive. The other two main sections were high on potatoes (hashbrowns, mashed, wedges) and chicken (fried, roasted, strip) and not a lot else, really. Several sides (corn, beans, mac & cheese, okra, stuffing, cornbread) and all of it seemed pretty bland Everything I had was bland. Nothing was bad but nothing was particularly good either. There was a side station with ham & turkey that took way to long before someone carved us a chunk and then some pasta and a steak grill that didn't seem to have any steak ready or close to ready. The dessert buffet had ice cream (not having that would be worthy of losing a star) and some fixins, pies, cookies (chocolate chip was a little hard and not great), and cake. Plenty of options there. There seemed to be far more options for dessert than anything else, really. Honestly, I think the Chinese buffet we go to sometimes has more American food options than they had here. The best thing i ate was the hot roll that was delivered to our table separately. It was actually pretty good. So they have that going for them. The waitress was good, kept the drinks full (bringing refills sooner than needed instead of later than wanted). The buffet was stocked with no empty spots which is a good thing, just wish the things filling the buffet were better. The place was clean enough, comfortable enough, blah blah. For $34 (2 buffets and a tip) we left full. We don't see any need to ever go back though.

Overall the food was just OK. When its busy like it was when I went on 2/21/15 then the small food tables were chaotic and overcrowded. I had to stand around and wait a long time for the gravy to be refilled. Still, the staff work hard and service overall was decent. So, it's indeed kind of a MEH! experience. Used to be better I thought. I think Golden Corral beats them in choices and quality.

We haven't visited this Ryan's in a long time because the quality and are of the restaurant wasn't great. We decided to give them a try because we received a decent coupon. The place is MUCH cleaner than before and seemed much better run. We were there on a Saturday evening and the staff was having a difficult time keeping the food stocked. I'm a carb watcher so I really enjoy the salad bar. It is always well stocked with lots of choices. The meats and entrees are "ok" but not great - but this is kind of to be expected in a buffet environment. My husband loves their mashed potatoes but they were all gone both times he went to the buffet so he was disappointed. I am glad to see it's being better run and we'll probably go back again but may not put it back into our favorite rotation at this time.

If you ever want to go out to eat but want to avoid the burden of carrying that meal in your stomach while the digestive system does it's job, I would suggest Ryan's. That food travels through you and back out with the force of a thousands falls of Niagra.

I kept getting coupons for Ryan's so I headed there for breakfast at 8:30 on Saturday. First I was shocked when it was $9.43 after coupon, meaning it was $9.99 for breakfast, not including beverage - water for me! I'd read online some places charged $8-9. The place seemed clean, they had all the regular breakfast items - scrambled eggs, sausage links, yummy potato casserole (rationed in tiny souffle cups), biscuits, watery gravy (the only disappointment on my plate), waffles, fruit was limited & I saw some Mexican things. There was another buffet of what looked like lunch/dinner entrees & a salad bar which I ignored. Desserts were not baked in-house, but a piece of pecan pie was acceptable. The hostess mentioned an omelet bar which I forgot about. I filled one plate. That was enough. I just wanted breakfast - not there to "get my money's worth." I did have trouble getting my water - I stopped one woman & she mumbled something in Spanglish - I said "agua". She flagged down someone who I presume is the official drink server & I got my water & a refill later. On the way out I asked how much dinner was & she said $11.45 & steak grill would be available then. So only $1 more for dinner? Bet steaks are extra. I'd prefer a cheaper breakfast-only option. Anyone arriving for early lunch was going to get food that had been sitting out since 8 am. Though it wasn't bad, I definitely won't be back for breakfast. Maybe I'll try the dinner sometime with a $3 off coupon. Can't manage 4*s - 3 1/2.

My wife and I took our three kids (1, 4 and 8) to Ryan's this evening to take advantage of an $8/adult buffet special (with the standard $0.99/kid), looking for a nicer-than-usual family dinner outing and great homestyle fare. Our experience was "okay", but we will likely not be going back to this location. The food was good (you can't beat savory steak off the grill), and the staff were hard-working (our waitress was wonderful!). However, the high chairs were disgusting (we had to wait for a second one, b/c the first one had a broken strap clip) and they seemed to be a bit short-handed (all of the fork and spoon bins were empty and we had to wait several minutes for silverware so we could eat our food). The restaurant is in the most run-down part of Shawnee, but the facility itself was nice. Lastly, it was hard to get around without running into people (very congested). So, it was simply not a comfortable, much less "comforting", experience. With a little extra work, it could be a great place.
