A legend and tradition in Salina for nearly 100 years now. I grew up around this area and I still remember my father taking me to get these little 3 bite pieces of stinky heaven. Now that I live here in town I don't get them as often as I did when I first moved back but not because they aren't delicious! Anyone who has been there knows if you go inside you are coming out smelling like onions and every native or naturalized Salinan is gonna know exactly where you came from and what you had for lunch when you walk by them. It's almost a rite of passage if you are stopping in town or staying here permanently. Down to the food itself. Simple, 100% beef sliders grilled on the flat top as old as the restaurant itself, a buttload of onions, ketchup, mustard, pickles, on a steamed bun. I don't know what makes the magic but it simply works and there really isn't a substitute for it. This ain't Burger King so no you aren't having them your way. If you don't like onions the you better keep steppin, because that's how they are coming. They don't have cheese so don't ask, in fact if you do you might get dirty looks, laughed at, and probably deserve to be thrown out. Sure they will leave off the pickles, ketchup, and mustard, but why would you mess with this perfectly balanced burger whose origin is likely older than your grandma? Order a bag from the walk up window, have a seat at one of the patio benches, and dig in. Then spend the next however many minutes in tiny burger bliss, and the rest of the day wondering when your next fix will be. Pay no attention to some of the fake reviews on this place. This is one place you defiantly need to try if you've never been before, and if you have its almost a guarantee you'll be back again at some point.

The way to experience this place is to walk in with a smile and the longing for a true experience. I would highly suggest you buy a sack of 6, that is the right amount for each person, it sounds like a lot, and you might have a few left over, but they are good from the microwave at 2 in the morning. The menu is limited to burgers; that's it. Also they come with pickles, mustard and catsup; if you don't want that, tell them asap. All are cooked in onions, so they will be onion saturated, they DONT come without onions. Also, if you go into the shop instead of the walk up window, you WILL come out smelling like grilled onions, that smell with cling to you all day. Burgers are not wrapped in paper, but rather just stacked in a bag; no big deal, I'm just spoiled with my individual burgers in its own individual wrapping/bag/box. They stack in the bag fine and keep each other nestled in a warm glow of onion steam flavor. I would go again, going to the walk up window so I don't smell like onions all day. Buy six, and enjoy. They do take debit cards too.

Just stopped here during a road trip for a quick bite to eat. This place is nothing fancy and mostly serves sliders, but they were the best damn sliders I've ever had. They serve the sliders on a toasted bun with onions, pickles, ketchup and mustard and the guys make them for you on the spot. This place is definitely worth stopping for!

Stopped by on our road trip from CO, it was a fun diversion to eat at a 90 year old hamburger stand. Burgers were ok, sliders were a little patty, mustard, pickle and onions, honestly all we could taste was the mustard, came with a can of Soda and chips.

Keeping it simple since 1922. The longevity of this place through three owners by doing the same thing and doing it right for so long is just awesome. Step into a little history museum that smells of onion. :-) I recommend getting your burgers to go, because they have about five stools. While you wait check out the old articles or watch proprietor Steve Howard cook. I talked to Steve... buns are delievered fresh every couple of days from Sioux City IA. Slider buns, believe it or not, are not that easy to find for food service. Onions, to the tune of 17,000 pounds a year, are chopped fresh. You'll see someone occasionally appear from the back crying. Don't worry... they are fine! Ground meat is smashed right on the grill. Your burgers are cooked to order. There are no fries (just chips). No fountain soda (just cans). No condiments except mustard and ketchup (unless Steve has some hot sauces stashed away at the time of your visit). Delicious. Tender. Aromatic. Enjoy a bite of history here. Hard to beat.

A great place to have your first "slider". I figured 6 would be enough. Wrong. I wound up having a dozen. Very tasty.

Cozy Inn does burgers. That's it, just burgers. Now the burgers are savory little morsels and they come by the sackful, but if you don't want burgers you're looking in the wrong place. You can get a bag of chips and a can of soda with your sack of burgers if you so desire. The place is tiny and the walk up window is about the right height for the lollipop kids, but maybe that's how tall people were in the 1920's when this place opened. Burgers come with ketchup and a pickle slice, along with the grilled in onions. Nothing like the chewy steamed blahriffic White Castle burger they are often compared to, Cozy Inn burgers actually have some beefy heft to them due to their grilling on the griddle. Great for a case of the late night call munchies.

Tiny place with great slider-sized burgers. Don't order by the burger but more by the bag. They pretty much make them one way but, for sometimes being picky about my toppings, I love them. You can go inside to sit at the tiny counter & order or walk up to the outside window & order then enjoy some nice weather with seating. They sell sodas by the can & a few selections of chips. Simple but great for a quick pick-me-up. We like to drop by on our way across Kansas for a bite on the road. Consistently good & worth the stop. Drop in with friends, get a bag of burgers then sit outside & enjoy.

We made a little detour to try this place out on our road trip. We opted for the #1. Burgers were okay, I mainly tasted mustard. It also took quite a long time for just 6 little burgers. I think it's just more of an institution than for flavor now.

  • Chris L.

Classic Americana! You have to stop in. First question they ask is how many? As in sliders so just get a dozen and go from there. Onions are cooked in great for me but if you are picky or anti-onion then this is not your place. Enjoyed one of the few stools at counter and got to listen to the locals come in and order. Glad we stopped in on our cross country road trip. Plan your route to hit this place, make it a restaurant bucket list item.

Loved this place! Stopped by on our travels through KS after reading reviews. So glad we did! Walking up to it just made us smile. The workers were so friendly and we enjoyed hearing (& reading) the history behind the place. We live where white castles are plentiful. These are similar, but unique enough for a nice change. Actually love the simplicity of the menu, burgers, bags of chips, cans of soda. Makes it easy ordering for a family of 9. Only 6 stools along the bar, so don't plan to eat in with a big group. Perfect for us to grab & go. Really enjoyed the map on the wall where you can pin your hometown. Fun to see where people come in from. Would stop again for sure!

A stalwart in the Salina community. Consistency is key with sliders, and Cozy's has been consistently making great sliders forever! Don't be a sissy and go in and order! The onion infused hamburger scent is worth it!

Midwestern American icon. Serving sliders since forever. Buy a sack. Enjoy the aroma. I've been getting cozy's since 1994, and I can only say I wish I had been to Kansas sooner. Not fancy, not big. But big in flavor and addictive. White Castle has nothing on Cozy.

Best burgers I've ever had. Friendly staff and old fashioned ambiance. Price is good too, about $1.20ish a slider

I love this place institutions like this that have been around for 93 years you have to love this stuff the people are nice they give you a short history of the place it's simple it's easy it's cheap I love it you can't go wrong with sliders anyone out there that badmouth this place has never been to a place like this before They need to broaden their horizons and go out and eat different places that are not Burger King or McDonald's

  • Brian K.

Cozy Inn is horrible. They make their burgers one way... with loads and loads of onions. "If you don't like your burger that way, tough. Go someplace else." That's actually what the OWNER, of all people, told my wife when she asked to hold the onions. Horrible customer service. Won't eat there again.

A little bite that always takes me back. I love driving through town my mom grew up here and we always make a point to come back. We LOVE our cozy! It's worth 1,450 miles we travel for. Prices went up:/ but I we still love the atmosphere and yummy food. Note: to the review that tried to say your better off going to McDonalds. Shame on you.

Food 2 stars + the history 1 star + ambiance 1 star = 4 stars. Never had such a hard time rating a place.... Burgers are now $1.09 each. 12 burgers = 1 lb of hamburger. Small size with great grilled onions and a pickle slice on each. Bags of chips and soda cans available. This place knows what they are and what they aren't. The cook told us 90% of business is from travelers. I can't decide if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Fun to say we ate there (neat looking joint) but not on my best burger list. This place has been featured in travel shows and food magazines for years.

I came here with my wife, mother, father, two children, their spouses and seven grandchildren. We had a reservation, we arrived 7 minutes early and it took us a solid 12 minutes to get seated! Ridiculous! Our server, the so-called "Elizabeth" smelled like perfume and neutrality. Her agreeableness was offset by the room's tacky decor that was reminiscent of a 50's diner taken over by Texan democrats. I ordered the "Hoody-Doody" burger. WORST burger I've ever eaten. Not to mention it took our party a hefty 20 minutes to receive our food, I ordered it medium well and received it on the well side of medium. Not to mention the bun had GLUTEN in it; my self-diagnosed gluten allergy took a toll of me because of this. I expected the cheese to be gorgonzola, yet it appeared to be some yellow monstrosity representing "American" or "Cheddar" cheese. Elizabeth mentioned none of this. The french fries were from Idahoan potatoes which further disgusted our party. As for our drinks, we ordered soft drinks, and the drinks we received were, indeed, soft. I would give it a star for this, except 1. this is to be expected and 2. this is offset by the fact that when I went to use the bathroom (after my 320 lb son used it) I was appalled to see DEFECATION UNDISPOSED in the porcelain chamber. This repulsed me and I spoke to the manager, Joe, about it. He simply told us that my son should've flushed. What kind of establishment is this? My family and I came here to relax and be pampered to; if we were to do any work, we expect recompense!! After we paid our bill, we left the awful establishment and refused to tip our waitress for the lackluster service. As we were leaving and heading to our vans, three of our mobility scooters simply died in the parking lot. This was the icing on the cake for one of the worst nights of our lives. This inn was nothing but cozy, and we refuse to return. We urge you all to do the same.

It's a straight forward kinda place and I like that. When passing through Salina for a stretch break and gas tank fill-up, I felt it remiss to not at least try a place in town that was decently reviewed and something that was a staple of the area. Which is how we came about to stopping by at Cozy Inn. It's an interesting name and I am sure there's some history about it that I am not familiar with (as I did see some clippings and what not inside the location) but it is the food within that is worth making note of. Needless to say it did take more time than I was hoping to try these sliders (as we came during the dinner rush and they were sorely understaffed...by no fault of the two working the place), but I'd say the visit was well worth it. Due to the delay in receiving my order, I was able to check out the operation a bit and how they prepared the sliders. If you like onions, this is a great place to visit. If you don't, then it is truly your loss. There's no cheese to be added on to the sliders and no fries, but I am not affected by either of those lack-of additions. The sliders are grilled with the diced onions and then the buns are added on top of the meat during the last part of the cooking to warm up the bread. Pickles are slapped on and then ketchup and mustard squirted on to finish. I am unsure if one can request to omit those items, but that was of no concern of mine. If ever I am in this area again, I wouldn't mind visiting again without hesitation. Much better tasting than White Castle. Note: there was a 'drive-up' window, but it didn't appear to be in use. I wonder if because they were short some workers that it was not in use because of that reason.

I remember this place as a kid. My parents would drive from California to Salina every year to visit my grandparents. We would always stop here at least a couple of times during our stay, then get extra for the drive back. The last time I was here was probably 1986 or 1987. I moved out of California, but never forgot the little burger joint. Eventually, I found myself living in Alaska, and telling people about these little cozies. Everyone I told would always say the same thing. "You mean like White Castle" NO. NO. NO. White Castle is no where close to what I remembered as a kid. Eventually, I find myself living in Salina. My flight landed too late, and they were closed. Had to wait until the next day. Went in and had 6 with a soda. Soda has changed. I remembered glass bottles, and grape Nehi. But I wasn't there for the soda. Bring on the cozies. Watching the gut at the grill, they are made EXACTLY as I remember. A small meatball, placed on the grill, then smashed. Add some onions to cook in the flavor. By the way. Same grill since 1922, so you're getting all that deliciousness from burgers of the past. A little katsup, mustard, and one pickle, with the meat and grilled onions. Perfection on a bun. What? No cheese. That's right. NO CHEESE!!! These little beauties don't now, nor will ever need cheese. Plus, there's a sign on the menu that states no cheese. You want cheese, go someplace else. Best burgers ever. A true taste of America. Think about this. This place sells only burgers. You can't get fries. You can't get chili. You can't get hot dogs. This place has been in business since 1922 selling only 1 item. Burgers. How many restaurants can say the same thing? Clearly the best burgers in town, and if you visit Salina and don't eat here, then you need your head examined.

An American Classic! One of the top burger joints in the nation. The inn and the flattop are 92 yrs young. Delicious! The best burger I've had!!! check this place out.

I started eating these little burgers when I was going to college and enjoy the, whenever I am in town. If you are in the mood for a great slider this is the place.

  • Tarah K.

I could eat these sliders like candy. It's simple. It's a consistent experience. I love the old bar, and sitting and watching the mini-burgers slide across the flat top. You never know who, from where, you'll be bumping elbows with. Whenever I'm passing through, with a little rumble in my belly and a little extra time, I'm sure to stop by. As a historic part of the community I can only hope it continues to perform.

It was like going back in time to 90 years ago. Bitty burgers but with lots of flavor. 6 stool counter, grilled in front of you, super friendly staff. Just the kind of place you want to see while traveling.

  • Preston E.

Pretty good but the guy put mustard ketchup and pickle on the burger without asking. I really don't like pickle on mine, but took the pickle off and it was slightly better than average, but nothing to brag over.

  • Paul W.

This little burger joint opened in Salina in 1922, just one year after the first White Castle opened in Wichita. They serve up sackfulls of palm-sized burgers with ketchup, mustard, pickle and lots of grilled onion. The buns get steamed in the process so they're soft and moist. If you don't like the kind of slider served up by Cozy Inn, White Castle and Krystal, that's not their fault. So don't write of review of Cozy Inn and give a bad rating just because their sliders aren't you cup of tea. They've been making burgers exactly the same way for 90 years. I happen to love these moist and tasty little gems but I'd give Cozy Inn 5 stars just for its longevity and tradition!

  • Todd L.

First time here. ... and the burgers are awesome! Keeping the recipe simple using good product makes this place awesome. The small kitchen with bar set-up was great as we had the opportunity to interact with the cook and learn about the history of the joint. Highly recommended.

Great sliders, old time-y atmosphere, and super friendly people. It's been featured on travel channel and the food network. If you're in Salina, stop here.

    (5)
  • Karen I.

These sliders are addictive. Fair warning, though, if you're gonna eat here, be prepared to carry the smell of onions with you for the rest of the day. And if you take a sack home with you, it will stink up your car. Is it worth it, though? Totally!

  • Dave O.

5 Stars for the entire experience this home town burger bar can't be compared to the White Castle or Crystal joints so don't even go there. I was passing through while driving across I-70 with a friend who had family close by he had been talking about this place for years and I always took his boastful stories with a grain of salt. OMG what a jewel I ordered up a half dozen of this little 4-6 bite sliders off the century old grill and fell in love with everything about this place it's very nostalgic to say the least. There are so many place that we drive by when traveling and you never know what opportunity we just missed by 5 miles or 5 blocks so bookmark it and if your close stop in and try them.

Best small sliders around! Enjoy them about once a month! It's nice to go downtown and enjoy them with family or while watching a parade.

  • jennifer w.

Pretty neat that it's been around forever. Pretty cute place and in a nice day it's fun to sit outside. The fact that they won't make the sliders without onions was almost a deal breaker. They also don't have cheese which ruined it for me. Besides that the burgers were pretty good and I enjoyed the onions but our kids wouldn't eat them. They only have canned soda and bags of chips. The service wasn't great and we waited forever. Not too bad of a place to try once.

    (3)
  • Chris S.

Good food, great service! A little slow, but the burgers were made to order, so it was worth the short wait.

Anyone who has ever had to make the drive through Kansas knows how tedious it is. When we saw the sign advertising a place that had been open since 1922 and had "burgers by the sack" we took the opportunity to stop. Since the four or so tables outside were full we went inside to order. They do also offer the option of a walk up window which I would suggest doing unless you don't mind smelling like onions. The Cozy Inn is super small and I assume that this is where the name comes from. The inside consists of a counter with six stools and the grill where they make the burgers. The burgers are the only thing that they cook. Very good hamburgers and just enough to satiate for the remaining drive through Kansas but not so much food that you need to take a nap. If we have to drive through Kansas again (which hopefully will not be soon) we will definitely make another pit stop here.

Definitely don't see what's great about this place. Had lunch here a few days ago. Ordered the combo meal that came with 6 sliders, bag of chips, and canned soda. Sliders were just all thrown into a paper bag. They come with tons of little onions on them, ketchup, mustard, and a pickle. Def tasted nothing but onions while eating the sliders. I like the classic, vintage set up, but man these sliders really sucked. I'll stick to McDonalds and Spangles.

    (1)
  • Robin H.

I don't know if this was where sliders came from but I don't care, they were tasty. Now I am not slamming the chain that is known for them - they are one of my all time fav fast food. But here there are no preformed frozen patties - they pull out a ball of meat and smash it on a grill covered in fresh sliced onions - yum, the smell is incredible. Next time I am passing through this part of the world and I have a little extra time this will definitely be a go to place.

    (4)
  • Ganganath K.

I went there because of the reviews. This place is a shack. Just few bar stools to sit and cook right in front of you. Sliders are not great looking and small amount of meat. You need at least four of those and you eat so much buns for may be half of regular burger meat. No cheese !! After all that you smell like grilled onions for rest of the day. Sliders are unique and good if you like so much onions.

    (2)
  • Safford B.

Cozy Inn was an interesting experience. Definitely beats the generic fast food options on a drive from KC to Denver. My wife and I dropped by here at lunchtime, and waited to snag one of the six (or is it five) stools indoors. Service was very friendly, and fast, but I suppose that's expected considering that there aren't too many items on the menu. In fact, I'm pretty sure the only option is pickles vs. no pickles. There is no cheese, and onions always are included. The server told me it's non-negotiable. Good for them. Keep it simple! Sitting indoors does tend to lend itself to onion smell on the clothes, which isn't ideal for a long drive afterwards, so we might sit outdoors the next time we're here.

  • Blake R.

This is a slider joint. There is really nothing else to rate here. Sure you have the ambiance. Sure you have the line out the door. Yea you have the heritage. But it's all about that little burger with onions, pickle, mustard and ketchup on a steamed bun. That's why there is the line. That's why there's the nearly 100 years of heritage and ambiance. If you're rating this less that 5 stars then you must not like sliders. This is the slider with which you judge all other sliders. I have not eaten every slider but I have no problem making that statement. Harold and kumar got it wrong folks. They should've gone to the cozy.

  • Anita Y.

Ok, everyone is comparing it to White Castle, but how can you not? Full disclosure, I am a WC fan. More meat here on these still tiny burgers. No cheese, ever....Because that's the way it's always been done. All burgers with onions, always. Served with ketchup mustard and pickle slice. I would prefer no mustard, because that's the way I'VE always done it. I wonder if they'd let me? No little boxes, it all goes right into the bag. Chips and soda are the only other things on the menu. It's a tiny grill, narrow old place, 6 original metal counter stools, modern umbrella'd tables outside. This little corner of town has been reeking of onions since 1922, LOVE IT! 5 for me, 7 for him. Yum.

Drove a little out of our way to visit this iconic slider joint. Fantastic! Not to miss if you have time to appreciate a little slice of Americana. Jasmine and Ashley were working full time to handle a steady stream of locals with a few tourists thrown in. Unofficially, they had sold over 800 hamburgers by 2pm, on a slow Sunday in February. Highly recommended ...

I have been coming to The Cozy since '85 and every time it is still great food. Not only is the food good but the history in the building makes it worth a visit. This isn't your everyday hamburger and if that is what you are expecting you will be disappointed. They also do not have anything to go along with the burger except chips and cans of pop.

  • Bill B.

This is an old time establishment in downtown that serves those small hamburgers that some people like and others do not care for. This place has been around for years and the interior of the restaurant will quickly confirm that. The burgers are cooked at a small grill that is right next to the outside window. There are six stools for customers to sit at, or you can go outside and go to the walk up window and order your burgers there. In addition there are a limited number of outside tables along the front sidewalk. I for one like the small hamburgers covered with onions and a single slice of pickle. They are cooked right as you watch and served hot. Don't try to order any additional food as there is none. At 89 cents some will also think the price is high and they may be correct. We went because it is an old historical place in downtown and we like to visit those places. The area could be a little more tidy.

Sliders! I used to eat these in Brooklyn, at the local White Castle... here in Kansas, they have a less 'processed' feel to 'em (these sort of stick out in places from the bun, and they look hand-formed), and they cost only $.85. I like the old-fashioned feel of the place, and the clientele were local regulars, belly-up to the burger-bar. No 'side salads' or any of that guff: menu is sliders, sodas, and chips. That's it. Most importantly, it was open on Easter Day. I thought I'd be eating chocolate for dinner.

best slider burgers in the world. this business has been around since the 20s, and it is disputable which started first-- Cozy Inn or White Castle. i have had both though and White Castle does not hold a candle to Cozies. not even in the same league. these are little bits of deliciousness and worth going out of your way to get some.

Consistency is the benchmark of this established eatery! Common place are the fresh buns and freshly ground beef! To all you aspiring foodies this is called sticking it with one or two great products! Turns out the workers love a cash tips and we were happy to chat with them and tipped them 7.00 on 2 2's

  • Kim M.

Yum. Unexpectedly good, but be forewarned: Inside seating is virtually non existent, 4 or so counter seats and picnic tables outside. All the burgers have onions. None of them will have cheese, even if you want it. Period. My onion hater son still thought they were awesome. Cute little sliders, kind of like White Castle or Krystal, but that actually taste good. If you don't want them with pickle ketchup or mustard, speak up, because those are the only options you have, and that is what you will get. Don't order too many at one time, but go back and order more for seconds if you don't want the mushy bun issue. The buns are a very soft roll-type bread, and will get soggy fast. We arrived 10 minutes before closing and there was a line. The guys at the grill didn't cop an attitude at all, but actually acted happy to see us and thanked us for coming in. Don't forget to tip the cooks! They deserve it.

  • Jon A.

My abdomen is larger than their grill and that is promising in two regards: one, my heart immediately jumps to the idea, "I'd like to order however many fit on the grill," and two... I can stare into the 90 years of grilled onions and smell the waft that will be the exact image of the lining of my stomach after I take down these classics. I was apprehensive to arrive right at 11am when they opened on a Sunday. I shouldn't have been at all as when I got there... there was a line out the door and they were in full sack slanging swing. I went with the 6 sack and I'm definitely down for the "no cheese" mandate. I didn't see any signage though on the mustard & ketchup coming on the burgers automatically, so whether or not they allow that to not be on there... be prepared for that combo to be coming at you. Halfway through the sack I realized I was eating 4 times more wonder bread than beef... so I took the remaining 3 burgers and put them all together one one bun set. For a more proper beef to bread ratio... definitely consider stacking them up. Considering the stretch of Kansas on I-70 doesn't have the most abundant options of unique and historic food spots... this is a true needle in the haystack.

The burgers remind me of the mini burgers from White Castle (which I've never had - only seen the movie). It is a small little place with bar style seating indoors and picnic tables outside with umbrellas. We got about 30 of these little delightful burgers to go and devoured them. Customer service is great and fast. Burgers are simple but delicious even without cheese (I'm a HUGE fan of cheese). The set up is: bun, meat, grilled diced onions, ketchup, and mustard. I'm sure I'll be back.

I've been going to the Cozy Inn for years and my dad has been going there when the burgers were a nickel. No slider in the world compares to the slider Cozy Inn turns out. The flavor of the grilled onions, meat, and pickle just make my mouth water typing about it. I've learned not to let me friends know I'm stopping thru Salina or I will have to pick up 4 dozen frozen sliders for them. Yes, they have them frozen to take with you and yes, they are amazing when you heat them up. I beleive Cozy Inn was even listed as one of the 7 Great Wonders of Kansas.

Cozy inn is the best burger joint around. Period. Anytime I'm in Salina or nearby I have to stop and get a couple dozen cozy burgers. If you come here you better like onions because they will not make the burgers without them. If you are anywhere within a 100 miles of this place it is worth the drive out here. This place has been here for 90 years and I don't see it going anywhere any time soon. Inside is small with about 10 seats at the counter. There is a walk-up window on the side of the building. We arrived at noon on saturday and had to wait 25 minutes to get a dozen burgers. Every order that was coming in was 5 dozen, 2 dozen, someone came in and ordered 100 burgers to go. I would bet they sell over 2000 sliders on weekends.

Meh Very briefly, the sliders are pretty good with one exception: the buns can rot in hell. Take the highest quality midwest ground beef, season it, add onions and grill that mother****er up. Then throw it on a bland, white, glue-like bun. bring a toothbrush

Their burger reminds me of White Castle burgers. They are cut square and small. Over processed white flour buns that gave chewy texture and ground meat with chopped onion as burger worked very Americana. I enjoyed it. I also found my old time favorite, A&W Root Beer. I've never seen in New York. The place is very small with 4 or 5 stools at the counter. This place had a good old American flare and loved this unique experience. This town, Salina, is a very small American town with mostly Whites. I might be the only Asian in the town that day. I saw many red color in cars, signs and out door dining sets and so on. Visiting this American town was very unique. If we didn't stay over night here from Denver, CO to St. Louis, MO, we'd never seen this American beauty.

While making a cross country trip, I was intrigued by a billboard and numerous positive Yelp reviews for Cozy Inn. Unfortunately, Memorial Day weekend was NOT the time to sample Kansas' version of the slider as it took 45 minutes to get our food. I will start by saying I enjoy both White Castle and Krystal but these sliders take the "mini burger" to a whole new level. The meat patties, which start as little round balls, are about twice as thick as the aforementioned competition and perfectly seasoned for a unique taste. The onions are a significantly coarser cut than the national chains but it seemed a perfect compliment to the density of the meat. Much of the decor remains from its 1922 foundation, which while nostalgic isn't exactly a model of hygiene or comfort. As a business owner myself I couldn't help but cringe every time the owner apologized to people who weren't willing to wait on this all too busy day. But he kept his cool and tried to keep those of us waiting in the tiny diner engaged. Although the soft drinks are in cans so no refills, I did appreciate having a choice between Coke and Pepsi products. It would have been nice to have a choice of something other than chips as a side dish, which, along with the dinginess and the long wait times, keep this from being a five star burger joint.

Don't miss this slice of old Americana in downtown Salina, Kansas! The menu is simple - sliders and chips and it hasn't changed in 90 years. Packed with locals who come in, order 6, 12, or more to go in a cute white paper sack with the unique Cozy Inn logo. They serve thousands of these each week and have done this non-stop for years! You gotta try it!

My son and I loved it. Like stepping into the past, sit at the counter and order them two at a time from the original 90 year old grill. Congrats to the recent owner for six great years.

Sad To say Hamburgers Tasted so so For a burger shack that was a must go.

My husband has adored The Cozy Inn since he was a boy. Cozy Inn has been makin' the same little burgers since long before Sliders were cool. They are still made on the same grill, the same ingredients (not exactly the same, the meat is fresh), and the same way. You just can't beat the value of buying a bag for 5.47, tax included (6 Cozy burgers). The burger is about 3 inches in diameter (think White Castle or Krystal, but far, far above in taste!) with a single hamburger patty and grilled chopped onions. The burgers are then dressed with pickles, ketchup, and mustard. This would be one of life's greasy pleasures, and if you're from the area...an institution. Get your Midwest farm boy groove on and cozy up to a bag of these babies.

This is THE place for sliders in the entire world. There are no options, and you order by the half dozen. I remember growing up in Salina and my dad would bring home a couple of brown paper sacks full of Cozy burgers home after school. The whole house would stink of onions for days. You definitely don't want to accidentally leave the bag in your car! This is for old school, historical food lovers.

There's not a whole lot to one can say about Cozy Inn, partially because there's so little to it. It's a tiny building with a tiny griddle, no fryers, very little seating, and not even so much as a soda fountain. The single biggest thing about the place is the smell, which will stay with you, in your clothes and hair and car for days. Washing doesn't help, and anyway, you won't want to. There are no veggie burgers, no turkey burgers, no doubles, and no cheese. Onions are not optional. You will be having onions with your beef burger, like it or not. If you don't like it, there's always Burger King. Please go there forthwith and stand no longer between me and this sack of cozies, original 1920s sliders which tradition demands must be devoured by the sack full. I love me some White Castle, but their sad little industrialized frozen patties steamed atop a bed of rehydrated onions can never hope to compete with the fresh meat and onions used at Cozy Inn. Indeed, it is easy to imagine that these Cozy burgers are very much like what White Castles would have been before throwing high quality out the window in favor of high convenience. Cheap, delicious, and definitely a tradition worth taking a day trip to experience.

Probably more historic then tasty. It's not bad it's just not good either. I eat here occasionally but only the pick up window. Don't go inside the smell will stay in your clothes.

I had such high hopes! My road trip companion and I both hated these sliders. We threw half of them away. Frozen White Castle are better than these. Aside from the charming and retro setting, there is no reason to rave about this place. The meat was rubbery and overcooked, flavorless (some salt would have helped) and the saddest part were the onions! We only had 1 out of 12 burgers where the onions were caramelized to a golden brown. The rest were not even translucent, undercooked and flavorless. The one with the caramelized onions tasted better. Still, not enough to recommend this place...which makes me sad because I love small-town Americana and old-fashioned joints like this and the people in the place were so sweet. Just bad food for me, though.

Read a lot on this place and when I came through town had to try it. Good sliders. The place is VERY small but very unique. They do not have cheese but the burgers were good. Not normally an onion fan but these were good. You can smell the yuminess before you enter the door. No offense but these would be sooooo much better with cheddar.

A Kansas classic. Cozy's one of those special must see places if you like history and tasty sliders. Be warned: you will smell like onions if you stand inside the Inn for too long.

GREAT HOME MADE BURGER - toot toot! Home of the slider - OPENED since 1922. Old Time Burger bar in downtown Salina. It CAN'T be worth more than a three! Well Worth the trip off I-70 to see this place. CASUAL - not a big place so EXPECT to sit outside Get a bag of burgers for the whole family. HAND GROUND MEET. If you don't want onions in your meet be sure to tell them upfront. All soft drinks served in a can, and bags of chips - save yourself bucks and stop at get your own from Walmart,. This was the high life in the 20-30-40- 50 and 60's before fast food!

I can't drive through Salina without wanting to go here to get some burgers. It's a historic landmark and there is a reason for it: they are amazing! A really small little building with a few outdoor table (which I recommend unless you want to smell like them the rest of the day)

I was a skeptic of Cozy Inn because I had them in the mid-90s (when the original family members were still alive). I didn't recall them as being anything special. My uncle really hyped them up fifteen years ago, telling me a possibly-apocryphal story about how the owners once purchased a new grill, but soon had to fish the old one out of the junkyard because the new grill didn't have the years of perfect seasoning. He also complained about the mid-90s price; native Salinans recall that these sliders were once drastically cheaper (in central Kansas, the current price of 85 cents is relatively high). I had some Cozy burgers back then, and I shrugged my shoulders. Meh. Proof that tween tastebuds are not to be trusted. Due to my skepticism, I only bought three sliders after a late breakfast, figuring that I didn't need more on my rush back to Kansas City. They loaded them off the grill, dropped them in a sack, and I was out the door. Racing away in my rental car, I finally tried one. The worst mistake on my trip is that I didn't buy more Cozy Inn sliders. In my opinion, burgers are only completed with onions, and these are garnished perfectly. National media publicity doesn't always pan out (Cozy is most recently featured in the Family Circle and #69 on the Travel Channel's 101 Tastiest Places to Chow Down). In this case, I think the publicity is deserved. If you like grilled onions on your burgers and you're on I-70, Cozy Inn is well worth the detour into Salina. If you don't...well, there's nothing else on the menu, but I think you should still keep an open mind and try them. I wish Cozy Inn was open late; would be great to have these burgers after the bars make last call on Santa Fe Street.

IF YOU ARE WITHIN 100 MILES OF SALINA, KANSAS YOU MUST STOP AT COZY INN. Cozy Inn is a small (5 metal stools) hamburger joint with it's original 1920"s grill. The burgers are sliders. The beef is fresh there is a large sign " NO CHEESE". The menu is burgers, chips and canned soda that's it! When you order the cook takes a ping-pong ball size hunk of meat slaps it on the grill flatting it out he then puts on a ton of onions flips it over and places the small bun on top. Toppings are mustard, ketchup and if you want everything a pickle chip. Price for all this wonderfulness 79 cents. This is not a "date night" place since your breath and hands will smell of onions for several days. I can not wait to get back. I found a YouTube video if you want to experience a trip to Cozy Inn youtube.com/watch?v=sUCh…

I liked the idea of these sliders, but I wasn't blown away by them. Sure, it was cool to walk into this tiny, tiny dining room and get six of these belly bombs as quickly as it took to for me to pay, but the white Wonder buns, kinda dry meat, ketchup, mustard pickle, and onions didn't seal the deal. The onions, a deep golden brown from being cooked on the grill, were perhaps my favorite part, and while the half dozen gut busters filled me up, I don't know if it would be worth returning, especially given the lack of any other cooked products, like fries.

If you're in Salina, it takes like half a minute to come here and get some sliders. There's no reason not to. Unless you're vegetarian, in which case my advice to you is that you should put that aside for a second and get a fuckin slider. They don't do cheese, so don't ask.

Awesome little burger joint. Good onion heavy sliders served in a sack with chips and pop in a can. You really can't go wrong here. The owner is very friendly, and right upfront as you can watch him make the sliders you are getting while sitting at the six seat counter. When I was in, there was a fun group conversation with people from all across the US all in at the same time, sitting at the little counter. On a sunny day the walk up/pick up window is the way to go, the inside is small and a little on the dingy/worn side, which is the only reason this isn't a 5 for me.

My wife and I grew up with White Castle so I'm comparing these sliders to WC's. We both feel WC's are better. I think there's more flavor - it may involve the pickle but I'd have to have a few side by side. Anyway we ate in and it was an experience worth having but we aren't going out of our way to do it again. Very limited menu, also.

A little hidden gem in this city. Palm sized burgers as described by the owners themselves. Order outside or inside, however they only have five stools at the counter. Place on the inside just smells from grease, BEWARE! they do have several tables outside. Choices are very limited when placing you "gut bomb" order. All burgers have tiny flecks of grilled onions running thru the meat. Then choose, Ketchup, Mustard or pickles. Thats it! No cheese offered here. They also have a large selection of chips and soda. No fries here! The only down fall is that when they pack your burgers up, they are just placed in the sack. So I guess the bag soaks up the grease. All in All pretty good place to fill up cheap. 6 burgers (bigger then the palm of your hand and White Castle) plus drink and a bag of chips w tax run around $7.50. Well worth it. If you are in this sleepy little town check it out. Don't blink when driving by, you might miss it!

Very good Sliders. I would not suggest going inside to sit down. Very small counter and only about 6 stools to sit on. Also, if you go inside you smell like the burgers all day long. Good, quick service. A lot of history surrounding this little burger joint. But good burgers none the less.

Love the burgers!! You can smell the grilled onions before you get there - LOL Neat little place - we stop there whenever we go to Salina to visit our son who is attending college there. It has become a fun family tradition, and we get excited to get our bag of burgers. You have to experience the fun and taste of these little burgers if you are traveling through Salina.

I give it 5 stars - for what it is. No cheeseburgers, just fabulous sliders, made the same way for nearly 100 years. I love these sliders. Got to sit at the counter - 1 of only 6 seats in the place. Nice chit chat with the owner. He just kept serving up sliders until we surrendered. Onions are fabulous.

My husband got to try his first Cozy burger a few years ago during a trip to Salina to visit my family. I grew up here and have had Cozy's off and on during most of my childhood to early adulthood. My fellow Yelpers have already done a great job describing the Cozy experience, especially the "dine-in" experience. My husband and I sat at the bar with my parents and grandma and got our onion-laden, non-cheese burgers last visit. Don't wear a good jacket - such as leather - when you come here, even just to pick up a take-out order. The onion scent buries itself deep in your hair, skin and clothing. After eating at Cozy's, people will sniff you as you pass by and say, "Mmmm, you must have eaten at Cozy Inn!"

I love this place! My Dad remembers getting 2 burgers, a bottle of pop and a piece of pie for a quarter. I go there every time I'm in Salina which isn't often enough - but they do ship. The only negative thing I can think of to say is that I miss the cooler that was just behind the counter. When you ordered a pop they would pull it out and snap the top off. Now it's cans, but that's progress, I guess. I think the walk up window and the tables outside are a welcome addition. I'm so pleased because I took my son there and he just recently said he'd like to go back. That makes three generations of us that love those cozies!!!!!!

This place was great. The food was pretty good. Mostly just basic fast food, not amazing but definitely good for the price. The atmosphere is great. It is super small with only a couple counter seats and pick up window. The place is decorated with all sorts of newspaper clippings about the restaurant's history. The look is very authentic old fast food place. It had the feel of a real family business who has been doing things mostly the same way for a long time. Definitely worth the stop off the highway.

So I am a sucker for White Castle and living in Arkansas I don't get to usually have a great slider etc so was excited when I read about this place. I will say the burgers good, atmosphere was neat and kids ate the burgers, but it was only three stars - nothing bad, nothing that will make me get off the highway to visit either. Worth a stop if your in town

Nasty little onion burgers. Why do I love them so. Maybe it's the history. Maybe it's the smell of onions on the grill. Maybe it brings back childhood memories. What ever the reason you just have to have 5 or 6 of these little burgers.

Stopped by here on our way to Wichita. It is a small little place with a window walk up. You order sliders by the sack. 85 cents for each slider and about $6 per sack. Tasty but nothing too special. There are white buns w meat, grilled onions, pickles and mustard. Quick and easy food if you end up in the middle of no where. Surprisingly busy though. :)

Most iconic place to eat in Salina. Burgers are small but taste can't be beat. Aroma is so good you don't need to tell people where you've ate, they can smell it on you if you've been there. A secret I've learned is if you go the walk up window on the side you get served a little quicker for some reason.

Salina probably has the best food per capita than any other US city...and i'm not kidding. it helps that salina has about a thousand people (exaggerated, but not too far off) and they have two of my favorite eateries ever. Cozy Inn has those small hamburgers that everyone must cozy in(to) cozy inn to wait for their food. They taste so darn good, and they have been around for something like 75 years. If you don't stop in Salina while passing through, you are screwing yourself over with some of the best food...especially in the sunflower state.

  • Robert B.

Huge fan! The only reason they don't get 5 stars is probably the price. They used to be really reasonable, but recently they've had to raise them up to stay alive. This is a greasy spoon in every sense of the word. Not a lot of variety, NO CHEESE is right! One precaution, if you go inside to order, be prepared to smell like a grill for the rest of the day! The smell will linger on and on and on... and everybody will know where you went! lol But I hope you go and enjoy some burgers!!!
