I really like Mr. Gyros, and I also love the name in conjunction with the fancy greek historical decor. It's not a fancy place, don't get me wrong, but somehow the cheesy name is out of sync with the huge murals of ancient pottery paintings of ancient greeks, and simple huge blue pottery urns. Also, they are always closed on Sunday, which I suppose is Orthodox? Anyway, on to the food. It's good, simple and fast. I've eaten at the Overland Park location many times and this one is exactly the same. Very tasty fresh pita for the sandwiches, very meaty and ample gyros, I like the souvlaki, and the moussaka is luscious. I particularly come here for the greek salad, I love the dressing, an oregano-y vinagrette, and it's always perfectly fresh, ice cold and crispy. Plenty of finely crumbled feta on it, and lots of nice garnishes - olives cucumber etc. Sometimes i even get dessert, and i don't usually do that. But the nice nutty, syrup-drenched pastries in the case where you order are pretty tempting and they're all delicious.

Love this place! I usually frequent this one, but I have been to one other one too and it was pretty consistent. Standard Greek food and quick too! I generally get the chicken souvlaki dinner, but lately I've been getting the chicken gyro meat. Both are very tasty! They have a great tasting Tzatziki sauce and both my lover and I love the rice! I'm not a big fan of the salad dressing that comes on the Greek salad, but they do give you a huge chunk of feta, which makes up for the crappy dressing! This is my go-to place for fast Greek food! I highly recommend.

Great gyro lunch special. Portion was huge. Price wasn't bad either. Would definitely return.

This is a great little restaurant. My husband usually hit it up at least once a month for dinner. It's fresh, tasty food that's reasonably priced. This restaurant has inspired us to try new things and more Greek food in general. My husband loves the Gyro Plate and I always get the chicken plate. The meat is extremely tender and flavorful on both plates. We also love the hummus and pita bread. My only complaint is that the plate is a little small and I wish they'd cut up the veggies in the salad. But I'm glad the veggies are fresh and the quantities fill the plate. We always leave with full, content tummies. If you really want to top of your visit, get dessert. They are so delicious. We've tried several different ones. We just love the honey, nuts and flaky pastry dough. I will say that service isn't always friendly, sometime I feel like they could use a hug or a smile. But maybe just standing there taking orders all night gets old. They've never been mean or rude, I just think they could smile a bit more. If you've never been, you've got to stop in and give it a try. I bet you'll be back, I know I will.

THIS FOOD IS SO GOOD! I don't usually love greek food but I went here with my dad (who does) and I was pleasantly surprised!! I will definitely be back for more and dreaming about the food until I return.

Yay Greek food! The only reason that this isn't 5 stars is because some of the tings that I tasted the first time we were here...wasn't all that great. I really wish there was a way for us to have half stars! I need a way to have it as 4.5!!! Anyways, on to what matters in reviews - the service and the food! So, this is one of those places where you walk up to the counter and order and wait for your food. But the service here is awesome! My honey and I come here fairly regularly in the evenings on weekends. I think the .. owner? manager? remembers us and jokes with us every time we are here. Our food always comes out hot and delicious. The first time here I ordered the combo plate - I wanted to try everything and see if it was any good. My honey ordered the gyro sandwich and a small salad...and gets the same thing every time we are here. The combo plate definitely helped me decide what my usual would be going forward. The combo plate had...something that looked like lasagna, gryo, salad, dolmas,...and I can't remember what else there was entree-wise. The plate came with hot pita, fresh sliced onion, tomato, olives, and tzatziki sauce. Yummy!! I didn't particularly like the lasagna looking thing but it was ok. Everything else was pretty delicious! After all we are back here pretty regularly and order gyros every time. On our first visit we also ordered the red pepper hummus - I found it excellent and also appreciated the extra ptias! It was my honey's first time trying hummus and while he wasn't as big of a fan as I was; I know he enjoyed it! We also tried the chocolate baklava...it was good, but not something I would rave about. Granted the chocolate also looked a little bit drier than the regular. Of course, I'm also picky because I have a recipe for baklava that I guard heavily; so I'm also quite biased. Overall, definitely the place to go for delicious Greek food at a reasonable price. Maybe we'll even see you there!

I seriously crave Mr Gyro's every week, unfortunately I often crave it on Sundays (it's closed on Sundays!). I usually get the lamb gyro sandwich and a small greek salad. For lunch you can grab both for $8.75 which isn't bad. The interior is styled in a sterotypical American view of Greek styling, but feels kind of plastic. Service here is very fast and you can expect the same quality every time you come, which I appreciate. The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is because I view this place as an alternative to Chipotle. While the prices here aren't bad, you're getting 1 meal for $8.75 while at Chipotle I can get a burrito bowl loaded with good stuff for just $7.75 and it is enough for two meals (unless I'm feeling extra gluttonous). So the value at Mr Gyros could be better in my opinion.

Good gyros. Nice atmosphere. Love the moussaka.

Love this place. Even if you don't like actual gyros there is something for everyone. My favorite is the good ole fashion gyro. They have a lunch special that includes a sandwich and small salad for 8.95. The chicken is very good as well. When I come with my niece we always grab and extra side of taziki and pita to share. You don't have to wait to long after putting your order in as well.

I really am surprised to see so many positive reviews for Mr. Gyro. My husband & I ordered carryout & were thoroughly disappointed. The salads had super skimpy portions of meat, even though I asked specifically about whether or not they had a decent amount of meat. The spanikopita was basically just gross. The hummus tasted very much like the prepackaged stuff I can buy at the grocery store. And, even the baklava was pretty ick. If that's not bad enough, we both think we got food poisoning... including my husband actually up throwing up overnight. We'll never be back. Gross fast food Greek at best.

Food was ok, but left me wondering where were the fries? They must be the only Greek restaurant in the U.S. Without fries. I'd go back but only because they are so convenient.

I was in the mood for something different and tried Mr. Gyro's based on all of the positive reviews. Unfortunately, they were having a bad day in the kitchen or my expectations were way too high. On the positive side...the dining room was clean, the person who took my order was patient while I decided what to have, and the food portions were generous. Having never been to a Mr. Gyro's, I ordered the combination plate so I could sample several menu items. The only things I would order again, if I ever go back, were the gyro meat and the tzatziki sauce. The horiatiki/greek salad was ok, but it was really nothing more than a few slices of onion, tomato and cucumber with dressing and crumbled feta - maybe there was an olive or two - but I don't recall. The spanakopita was a tired little wedge of filo with about a teaspoon of almost tasteless filling, and the dolma was so soggy I think it had been poached not steamed. The Pastichio looked beautiful, but it too had very little flavor...where was the onion, garlic, oregano and cinnamon? I suppose I will have to look elsewhere for good Greek food in Kansas City.

  • Kay L.

Good, flavorful food, served up fast & fresh. Can't go too wrong with that formula. The menu is pretty limited, but what they do have, they do well. I like the gyro meat, but thought the spanikopita was a little heavy. The mousaka is yummy! It's a nice break from the burger-and-fries world, for about the same coin... and I like the fun wall murals :-) Closed Sunday.

I love this place. I come here at least three times a month or so. I usually get the gyro sandwich or the salad- the salad is a huge portion but it is so good i end up eating more than half. Great decor and quiet which is nice. I get tired of eating Chinese food burgers etc. so this is a nice place to go have something different.

The food was really good here. There was really no wait and plenty of seating. I was in a rush so this made for a quick and healthy lunch. The staff was very friendly and helpful with ordering as well. I will recommend this location.

Very Quick and Tasty. Chicken Pita is a great light lunch option then follow it up with the Baklava. The Baklava always comes in handy

For fast, affordable, fresh and delicious greek food this is the place! My wife and I both had the chicken pita sandwich that featured fresh made chicken, lettuce, onion, tomato and tzatziki sauce all on a warm pita bread. Prefect amount of food and we left satisfied and ready to comeback again and try their other offerings.

Wanted authentic an Greek Gyro and found it here. Great fresh pita bread with excellent sauce and delicious meat garnished with perfect ripe tomatoes and sliced white onions. Speedy friendly correct order placement and delivery.

I had the chicken pita on my visit and found the pita to be very soft and overall delectable. The tzatziki sauce is really good because it has cucumber chunks. Everything is very reasonably priced.

My wife and I recently went out for the evening and we're looking for something fresh and not really expensive. We came across Mr. Gyros so we decided to try it out. I've always been a big Greek food fan but she's never tried it before so it was a totally new experience for her. She initially said no to going there because she didn't know if she'd like it. Our food was ready very quickly which was great because we were starving. Everything was delicious. I had the gyro platter and she had the chicken platter. She absolutely loved it. Especially the fact that everything is pretty fresh and there are lots of veggies and not all pasta and rice like most places. The atmosphere is quiet and unobtrusive which is really pleasant because you can actually have a conversation. The only think I would change is that we needed bigger plates for our food! Also, it they had something more like Panera with heavy reusable plastic plates would be more appetizing than the black styrofoam plates. We will be coming back soon!

We love Mr Gyro's! I've been twice recently once to introduce my mom to new cuisine, and the second time because my son wanted to try it. The service is fast and the food tastes fresh and delicious! I love their lemon chicken soup and my mother and 12 year old son both went crazy for the gyro melt. I prefer to get the original gyro but gotta get that feta though. They have a wide variety of delicious looking desserts but I haven't tried any because I'm always too full. I can't wait to go back and try the grape leaves and some of the other traditional Greek dishes they serve.

Don't let the cheesy name fool you! This greek restaurant is legit. One of my favorite places to grab a quick bite to eat, fast and delicious. You're not going to find an overly fussy selection of flaming dishes or laboriously stuffed eggplants because they focus on things that can be made quickly. Lovely gyros made with freshly baked pitas, deliciously seasoned authentic gyro meat (meaning unlike some other places, it actually has the correct percentage of lamb in it), fresh onion and tomato, and the best tzatziki sauce ever on the side, made in house. The other fares are tasty as well, but you can't beat that gyro. My husband and I always each get the "gyro sandwich" with an order of red pepper hummus on the side to share. And after... I can't leave there without eating one of the baklava. I literally fantasize about eating their baklava when I haven't had it in a while. I am salivating just thinking about it... Time to visit Mr Gyros!!

We've enjoyed Mr. Gyro for quite a few years. It is not the best Greek food that we've had, but it has always been tasty. Today, we stopped for takeout. The food was hot when we got home. My Dolmades Plate looked wonderful. I drizzled them with lemon juice and bit into one. Alas, lemon juice seemed to be their only seasoning, other than salt. No dill, parsley, mint, or onion. Nothing. The grape leaves were a bit tough, tool. The meat and rice had a great texture, which make the lack of seasoning an even more bitter pill to swallow! These had so much potential, but in the end they were just kind of blah. My husband's gyro was "just okay." All things considered, I think it's time to take our business elsewhere.

Well I will say upfront that my wife and I love this place for lunch, if the lunch special that is a gyro and a Greek salad for $8 bucks is not enough food? Hit the Golden Corral ...oinker! Strap on the feedbag. This is a good place, with good food.

I grew up with access to really, really good Greek fast food...especially Gyros. So, I decided to finally try Mr. Gyros after years of driving past their various locations. I went in with visions of "this will be...OK", and it was definitely that, at best. I walked up to the counter and received good, fast, friendly service - the woman pointed out her favorites (all involving gyros as the main product), but I decided on the combination plate in order to try a bit of everything. Let's go item-by-item quickly, shall we? Gyro Meat - it was OK. It's tough to screw up gyros. It wasn't memorable, but it wasn't bad. The tzatziki was just like any other I have had, but I would have preferred a bit more dill (just personal preference - dill is heavenly to me). Pita bread was fine, but had a rather strong buttery flavor, unfortunately...that's not what I like in my pita. Dolmades - this was my go to Greek food growing up, so I love Dolmades. This dolmades was slightly below average. Nothing very memorable, but everything was there - meat, rice, grape leaf. Pastichio - greek lasagna for the most part...it was actually decent. The top "custard", for lack of a better term, wasn't that great. However the meat and noodle underneath was just fine. Spanikota - again, average at best. It also had a little bit of cucumber/tomato/onion in a greek dressing that was crisp and tasty. I can't say anything terrible about this place. I felt like I got a good amount of food for my money, the service was good, the food was "meh". I won't seek Mr. Gyros out again, but I'll never tell anyone "oh, don't go there".

One of my favorite restaurants! I've been going to the one on Metcalf for almost 30 years. Great gyro meat, consistently fantastic service. My favorite is the moussaka. Pastries are delicious too. Try the classic baklava.

This location is just as good as the one in Overland Park off Metcalf. Same great Dolmades and Gyros. The Hummus is wonderful we go there for lunch sometime with the work group and always get a plate of Dolmades and Hummus to share with what ever we individual order. The menus are super simple. They are pictures on the wall. The always have a daily special which I ended up getting 1/2 the time. The desserts are all on display and are eye candy and delicious. Wait time is good. Staff is friendly and the place is very clean. This location I would say is about twice as big as the Metcalf location but they do a great job keeping up with the orders. A nice thing is you can also call in your order and just run in and pick it up. A great time saver if you are in a hurry. Also love the calamada olives that are in the hummus and salads.

Was craving a gyro so we decided to try this place out. They had a lunch special for a sandwich and salad for $8.99, which is not bad. I had the gyro and the wife had chicken pita. The portions were a nice size, about right for the price in my estimation. I didn't ask if they had different dressings for the salad, but what we got was a nice vinaigrette that was pretty mild. The tzatziki sauce was thick and creamy with a nice flavor. Overall it was a nice place and the food was tasty.

We really like Mr. Gyro's. It's a nice change from the usual fast food and national chain options that are so ubiquitous in the Olathe area.

We decided to stop in for lunch this past Saturday hoping they would have something for the kids. To our surprise they did have a kids platter with grilled chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, and pita which was perfect. My husband and both had gyros and hubby tried a Greek salad all of which was delicious. The staff was nice, dinning room was clean. We will definitely be back!

I gave this place a try again and Im still not fully impressed. Food taste fine but the portion is not worth the money. In a way, I feel like Im being jipped. Im originally from NYC area and been to many Mediterranean restaurants that give your money's worth. Mr Gryo's needs to lower their price for the food portion they are serving.

It's a good alternative if you're burnt out on Mexican or Chinese. I had the combo plate to try a variety. Gyro meat was good, domas was good. The pastachio and spanakopata did not do much for me. I was hoping to get falafel as a vegetarian meal, but they don't have falafel on the menu. Hummus was pretty tasty.

I love Mr. Gyros! I went through a phase where I visited the one on 135th Street 3-4 times a week, even twice in one day. So of course, I was ecstatic when I found out they were opening one in my backyard! Well, my enthusiasm has died down a bit since then; I've only made it to this location twice now. I always get the gyro salad with a side of tzatziki sauce. I'm never disappointed. The salad is HUGE, and it's not just iceberg lettuce! They also top it with onions, green bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, a pepperoncini, two kalamata olives, and several strips of gyro meat. It also comes with pita bread. Their salad dressing is so flipping yummy. I like to mix in the tzatzkiki with it. I think most women would find the portion too big for one sitting, but I'm a hog, so I finish it (minus half the pita bread) without shame. This is the only meal I've ordered at this location, so I can't comment on their other items, but judging by this salad, I'd imagine everything else is pretty consistent too. I'll continue to go back.

I really, really like Mr. Gyros. My experience at this restaurant can be summed up in three words: Casual, Quick, Delicious. It's like going to fast food, but getting actual good food. I only started going to Mr. G's when they moved into the Olathe location at 119th, but I have been overall happy with my four visits to the restaurant. You order at the counter, grab your own drink and pick up your tray at the front when they call your number, so Mr. G's isn't a sit-down and be pampered kinda place. However, it is a good place to grab a bite. My dinner experience on Tuesday, April 10 was good. I started with the Mediterranean Olive hummus. I mean, can you go to a Greek restaurant without hummus? Yummy for a good price and the appetizer was easily split with my two friends. I followed the hummus with the Gyro sandwich - gyro meat in a pita with tomato, onion and homemade Tzatziki. I love their recipe - tied with the Tzatziki at Tasso's - it's cool, light and packed with flavor. The sandwich had a lot of onion, but some were quickly removed. All was good. I feel that the staff is pleasant, but doesn't necessarily go out of their way to welcome you to the place. I will say, not on this visit but on my previous visit, my girlfriends and I lingered a little too long for the staff - we were still 45 minutes from their official closing time, but they definitely wanted us to leave. The staff stood at the front counter staring at us and the gentleman who empties the trash went ahead and emptied it, all the while looking in our direction. Granted, we were the only customers in the place, but we were there to enjoy a girl's evening out and they weren't closed yet. Other than that, customer service-wise, all of my experiences have been good. Will I go back? For sure.

Its not the best I've had but its cheap and good quality food in a clean place. If you want something healthy and well priced with ok flavor this is a good place to go.

As I work nearby, one of my favorite places to eat is Mr. Gyro's. They have a sandwich and a salad lunch special that cannot be beat. I'm serious. The Gyro's are delicious, but I like to also try the KC Strip gyro and also the Beef Souvlaki. Another popular dish is the grilled chicken, but I've found it's always very dry, so I stay away from it. I love the dressing on the salad, but they always put too much on it, ask for it on the side and you can use 1/2 what they normally put on it. I've had the combo plate as well, I'm not a fan of dolmas, the Pastichio is ok, and the Spanakopita is fair. They don't sell a lot of them, so they probably sit around waiting to be microwaved up. It's ok, to me this place excells at a good healthy and cheap lunch. Of course my favorite thing to get here is the coconut baklava or the Galaktoboureko, both of them 2 bucks each and worth every penny. The only other greek place I go to in KC is Tassos, and for my money, this place is better. I'll be going to greece next year and the one downfall of all of the KC Greek places is that none of them serve any seafood, which if you know anything about Greece, is like a staple. The staff here is awesome and they are always playing a greek travel guide on the big screen tvs. I just sit and stare in awe at all the cool places that I'll be seeing next year.

*yAWn* .............................................. Same exact food. Same exact baklava. And the snooty (couldn't care less if you died with a heart attack right in front of them) cashiers from 135th are there too. Had the Gyro plate and the wifey had the Gyro sandwich. Look on the bright side. At least the psycho wannabe Greek Soup Nazi from Metcalf ain't there. +1 Oh, and nice touch with the faux bamboo . . .

Visited here twice while visiting the area over the holidays. Found the food to be much better compared to Greek food we've had at similar fast-casual places here in Florida. Freshness of ingredients, portion size, and friendly service all superb. Would eat here again.

My wife and I visited for the very first time and were really impressed with the food. I ordered the lunch special which included the lamb gryo and a salad. My wife ordered the tenderloin gyro and salad lunch special. I have to say, it was the best gyro I have ever eaten. The bread was soft and flavorful and the lamb was succulent and so tender. Their tzisiki sauce was so tangy and tasty. Portion sizes are large. The greek salad was large and was adorned with greek olives, onions, crumbled feta (?) cheese, and an olive oil vinagrette. We also had their baklava and chocolate layered mousse cake. Both were great. But the gyros were the best. I took a taste of my wife's tenderloin gyro and I definitely am glad I chose the lamb as it was so tender and flavorful. Environment is very clean, upbeat and classy. The food came out in about 5-6 minutes. We will definitley be back. Highly recommended.
