Really first time in Manhattan, Kansas. My dad and I were here visiting the campus, we stopped by Harry's for dinner. We were a tad underdressed but nobody minded. The atmosphere is nice, and so are the servers. Antonio served us and he was great, we even asked him about the campus and the apartments I'm staying in. He was really helpful and was a diligent server, my drink was never empty. As for the food; my dad ordered the prime rib and it was incredible. I ordered the citrus snapper and it was savory, cooked to perfection. It was money well spent between the service and the food and a fabulous night with my father.

    We came here for our 1 year wedding anniversary dinner and we had a lovely evening. Definitely pricey but worth it! We will probably come by here again for our future anniversaries! Great atmosphere, good service, fine food and wine! (;

Amazing food! Great charm. Excellent service. The operators, Andrea and Evan, have a special gift. Don't pass this place up!

My husband and I have been on many occasions. Harry's never dissapoints. The scallops are big and fresh. My husband loves the lamb. My favorite dessert is the flourless chocolate cake. The atmosphere is very romantic. White table cloths, intimate seating, sometimes they even have candelabras. A must try in manhattan!

Outstanding service !! I am very particular about service and Harry's staff cleared my highest bar. It was as though they could read my mind and came by to check whenever I wanted something. The food was excellent and the wine list was very good. Additionally, the wait staff was highly knowledgeable about the wine and made excellent recommendations with regard to pairings. It was also a Kansas State Football weekend and a pep band came in to play. A great way to start the weekend.

Truly excellent food and drinks. Attentive staff, but from both the hostess and our server an exaggerated deference that bordered, unattractively, on obsequiousness.

No question about it. Harry's is the most prestigious restaurant for business dinner and formal dinning. Excellent atmosphere and great services. Servers are well trained and you can tell it is a well run operation. Surprisingly, the price is reasonable for the food quality and the presentation you're getting. We go there once a month for birthdays, graduations, farewell dinners for graduating students, and interviews new faculty candidates. The restaurant used to be a old hotel and the ball room are re-decorated to keep the old look but with a unique Midwestern style. Great place and great food were not let you disappointed. See my uploaded photo to see we had a great time each time we are there.

This restaurant has fantastic service and atmosphere. The food presentation was spectacular. The food had an amazing flavor that me and my wife will definitely return to experience again. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxing and we never felt rushed to give our order.

Very Very Romantic and Delicious! I Loved every minute of the experience. My Baby Love took me there for Valentines day. The service was friendly and dependable. The music was cool. A littel on the pricey said, but hey why saved money when its suppose to be spent anyways! Coming back soon.

We frequent Harry's because of the food and service as well as the atmosphere. We have always had excellent service and consider Harry's be best place in Manhattan for dinner and conversation. Tonight we had rotten service which really surprised us! BUT--the service manager came over and acknowledged the problem without us causing a rukus. To be honest, the service never improved tonight, but the conversation was great, fresh seafood delightful, and so yes, given the past history we have with Harry's I continue to give this place 5 stars!

I surprised Reggie by taking him here along with the boys on our 5th wedding anniversary. It was pleasure to have a fine dining experience, the staff was great with knowledge of the menu and helping us find suitable dishes for the children. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants an experience of a lifetime

Hello Yum-muffins! Harry's is THE restaurant in Manhattan. If you're gonna go, have their smoked gouda mac and cheese. I'm sure your taste buds will be tearing for joy and thanking you for letting your lips part open and allowing the ooey- gooey deliciousness to grace their presence. Service was great! Definitely would recommend everyone to try it in the Little Apple, if they haven't already!

Harry's is hands down the classiest place in the Little Apple!!! Their New York Strip is the best steak i've had. Service was perfect.

Excellent service, decadent desserts, fantastic menu. My favorite is the Harry's meatloaf. It is one of my favorite atmospheres anywhere -- the old hotel is gorgeous, reminding me of an earlier, more glamorous era. I also love to walk through Harry's deli for a quick and tasty salad for lunch.

Service was great. Food okay, menu okay. Given we are in Manhattan KS, I don't expect to be paying Manhattan, NY prices. The menu seems okay, an arrange of products. Nothing outstanding, good restaurant food choices. Service was very attentive and good. Food itself was okay, average, nothing imaginative, but a decent selection. Prices of said food are up there. $$$$$$$ for what you get. If you are going to pay these $$$ go to the real Manhattan, you'll get better for less $$$.

Whenever my wife and i are in Manhattan, Kansas we always stop by here. The quality of food you get here would easily be twice the price in the big city. I personally adore the bacon wrapped, crab topped, filet mignon. However, almost everything is amazing on their menu to include the meatloaf, the ribs and the potato salad. We did not like the chicken we had back '06 but other than that 5 stars all around for food, service and price. Easily the best joint in Manhattan.

Harry's is a swanky spot. Billed by TripAdvisor as the #1 restaurant in Manhattan, I very much looked forward to this meal on Friday night. I was in a party of 4 with reservations, and we were seated towards the back of the restaurant. This meant walking through the historic former hotel and admiring the mismatched old furniture. At our table was a throne-style chair and 3 more normal sized chairs. I took the throne! I ordered a hot tea and was offered a selection of Harney & Sons, selecting the Jasmine. The tea cup was a tall, clear glass which was really nice. The special of the night was a wahoo steak. I opted for the cognac herb tenderloin tips. They were served skewered with a shiitake foie gras salsa on top of a gruyere potato au gratin in the cognac sauce. I really enjoyed my dish (and it was completely gone, trust me)! The beef was tender, the sauce was flavorful, the relish was delicious, and that potato was scrumptious too! I don't eat a lot of potatoes these days because Eric R. dislikes them, so I liked this one and the crisp melted gruyere on top! My dining companions all ordered seafood (the shellfish saffron stew, the trout, and the scallops) and all of them were very happy. For dessert, I enjoyed a scoop of the house-made almond ice cream with candied orange peel. Our server Jase was outstanding. This is definitely the place to celebrate a special occasion or have a nice meal.

Service as always was very good. Had the Red Bell Pepper & Crab Bisque, and Crab Cakes. Food was fantastic!! Even though both are considered appetizers, I was stuffed. Crab cakes are plenty for a meal. Only reason I didn't rate five stars is because it was a great experience but I wasn't just blown away. I feel like they delivered on what I expected.

Professional servers, stately historic architecture, and serious food. A one-of-a-kind place in this college town, or anywhere. A great place to cozy up to the bar for an intimate conversation. Extensive wine list.

    (5)
  • Kevin B.

Contemporary fine dining in an atmosphere of bygone elegance. Great wine list. The food will make you want to slap yo mama! We started with the scrumptious crabcakes, smooth bottle of Spanish wine and moved on to the main course of fresh wild striped bass topped with a cashew puree over a basmati rice mix with a scallion sauce. ...pure perfection. This place maybe in "the little apple" but it has "big apple" cuisine and atmosphere along with "little apple" hospitality. Our server, Holly, was fabulous in every way!

    (5)
  • Amanda B.

Excellent menu options. Steak was perfectly cooked. Scallops fresh. Dessert was fantastic. They were very accommodating with our "please add this," and "take that out." Staff was very nice. Knew the menu. And even had great wine pairing selections. Only reason for not giving 5 stars was our booth was a little dark.

Hands down the best restaurant in Manhattan, and one of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of dining in. The service is second to none, even in the bar area and every dish I had was better than the last. We recently stayed four nights in Manhattan and ate at Harry's for three of them. Beyond all of the gushing above, what impressed me the most was the willingness of the staff, especially Chef Zach to make accommodations for my wife's extensive food allergies. Looking for a gluten free, nut free, dairy free meal that will still knock your socks off? Chef Zach can do it without blinking, unlike the 4 olives restaurant down the street who will flat refuse to serve you. My wife was able to have the best meal she has had in over a year, and not feel horrible afterwards, thanks to their great service, skill and diligence. Bravo! I would make the drive across two states just to come back to Harry's, so if you live close make sure you appreciate the gem of a restaurant often. Protip: get an appetizer pizza or bruschetta and a drink in the bar area (open seating) and call it a $20 dinner.

Bottom Line Up Front: This review is only on the bar and oysters. Very classy restaurant located in historic downtown Manhattan. Not a very big whiskey selection. Only place in Manhattan that serves fresh oysters. Decided to come here after dinner to have some oysters on the half shell. Harry's serves raw oysters on Friday and Saturday evenings. It is also the only restaurant in Manhattan that sells fresh oysters based on my own research. We arrived around 630pm. The restaurant was not busy at all. We sat at the bar and ordered a dozen oysters and 2 drinks. The bar area had about 8-10 seats along the bar and 3-4 tables off to the side. There were 2 small tv's at each end of the bar. I had the Dark and Stormy (Ginger beer, rum, lime, sour). It was smooth but very strong, had a nice tangy taste with some carbonation from the ginger beer. The oysters were pretty small but they tasted very fresh, it was served with a red frozen ball the size of a golf ball that looked like a mix of cocktail sauce and horseradish. Would have been great if it was not frozen. There were also no crackers, I mean come on, I know its a fancy restaurant but there are five things that NEED to be served or made available with oysters on the half shell at a minimum: cocktail sauce, horseradish, hot sauce, lemon or lime, and CRACKERS. A dozen oysters cost $24, half a dozen was $13. We actually ordered the last dozen for the night, we weren't planning on getting more but that would have been a disappointing turn of events if we did. Not sure if Harry's just do not get much inventory or the oysters are really that big of a hit on the weekends. We will come back in the future to try some of their dishes off the menu.

WOW! Went to Harry's for the first time last Saturday and it was simply amazing. The food was excellent, the service was excellent (Holly), and the atmosphere was excellent. I ordered the crabcakes and their entrée special of the day, which was a slow roasted pork tenderloin laid over a bed of bacon infused risotto and grilled asparagus, with a glass of wine. My girlfriend order the Atlantic Salmon served with a mushroom risotto, which I tried. The salmon was delicious, but my pork tenderloin felt like it was sent directly from heaven. The meat was so tender to the point where it was slowly dissolving with minimal effort. Thanks for the wonderful experience Harry's! I will be going back to Harry's in the near future and will recommend to acquaintances.

Very nice casual upscale dining in the heart of Manhattan. Who knew there was a restaurant here just like in California and will frequent from now on. I'm a foodie so the prices are average but may be considered expensive to most. The prices aren't much of a difference if you want to compare it to the Cheesecake Factory prices. Seriously! Foie Gras was the perfect balance with the strawberry balsamic glaze to break up the fatty texture. If you haven't had duck liver, you should try it at least once! The classic Prime Rib of Beef was juicy and orgasmic, probably because I haven't eaten it in years and I'm glad I ordered it. I don't eat much red meat but it was a special birthday dinner we were celebrating. Next time (very soon) I'm going to try the duck. Service was excellent and attentive, the servers actually were there for 'us.' One thing I was very impressed about was other servers would come to the table and clear our plates and even refill our water glasses. Restaurants I've been to that turn tables at least 4-5 times in a night are where the servers are in it to make a quick tip. Jessica was our server and I will request her next time we have dinner there. I always tell people who I dine with that are unsure what to order is to order an entree that you don't typically eat or prepare at home.

looking at the place, I figure that I would be selling my shirt for my meal. however, the customer service was great at the bar and the food is amazing. the first bite into my steak, melt into my mouth. It could be the beef or the way it was prepare. And as a runner, it needs a little more salt.

This might be the best place to eat in Manhattan Kansas. The food was excellent and the wine list was solid. It is set in the lobby and dining room of a historic hotel in the downtown and dining here is really a treat. They have an amazing vintage bar as well. A very cool place for fine food in Manhattan. The house meat loaf of all things was my favorite.

Upscale fine dining at its best! Harry's is one of my favorite secret spots in all of the US! The food is amazeballs and waitresses are stunningly beautiful! It's American cuisine within an old hotel. The place is immaculate and you don't have to have a suit on to be served. Wine, beer and liquor is served and the menu is standard Midwest dishes. My senior construction manager and I eat here every Friday night without reservations when we're working at Ft Riley. -1* for price/portion sizes

Good food but way way over priced for the quality. The food here really is no better than anywhere else in town.

Harry's is a very classy restaurant located in downtown manhattan. As a manhattanite I loved visiting Harry's every chance I had. The crab cakes, meatloaf, and stuffed chicken are a few of my all time favorites. Everyone is so friendly, and the restaurant provides a dimly lit, romantic ambiance. A true gem for the manhattan community.

The place and the service were great. Our waitress was expecially good (which is hard to come by these days). The food was surprisingly just so-so. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? I ordered their beef stroganoff which tasted nothing like beef stroganoff to me. The beef cuts were somewhat gristly which gives major marks down. My dish just wasn't appetizing. Also, the table bread was just so-so. I was expecting so much more considering the price and ambiance of the restaurant. The others at my table complemented their food, so, again, maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I did come with a group and their was a nice seating area in the back where we had some privacy. The bathrooms are located on the basement level and remind me of red rum red rum red rum.

Absolutely phenomenal fine-dining restaurant with an inventive menu that takes a creative twist on classic favorites. I have lived all across the country and I still love Harry's fantastic offerings. Their Harry's Kobe Burger is one of the best burgers that I have ever had. The Bruschetta and Crabcakes are my favorite appetizers. And if you enjoy cheesecake, you gotta try whatever special cheesecake they are offering that evening. Every time that I am back in town, I make it a priority to visit Harry's for a meal even if that is a beer and and their delicious smoked chicken pizza.

Wonderful dinning experience. We were wanting a nice relaxing meal and from other reviews we thought Harry's seemed like a good bet. We aren't disappointed. First I love the building and all the original woodwork and moldings. It's just beautiful. Second, the waitstaff is fabulous, very friendly and knowledgeable. Third, the food is delicious. Well prepared, tasty but not overdone and lovely presentation. I enjoyed the combination of delicate flavors and textures in our dishes. If we ever visit Manhattan again we will definitely come back.

Harry's has the best wine list in Manhattan. Probably the best "classy" restaurant in town. I was never disappointed here ... it's really your only choice if you're seeking an 'upscale' venue in the Little Apple. The staff clearly cares and takes great pride in the restaurant and in your experience. Highly recommended.

We have heard good things about the food so decided to give it a try for an early mothers day. Truthfully it was a bit of a disappointment. It started a bit rocky with our server who seemed like a cold personality. We thought if we were very nice to her she would be nice back so we ordered the crab cakes and bruschetta. It was amazing. After that we ordered prime rib and filets. The prime rib was ordered medium but was one of the toughest chews of my life. The mashed potatoes were seasoned with a strange flavor but was ok. The onions and asparagus were grilled very well. The three ladies in our party who had the filets thought they were good. The desserts came and were ok. Then the check came. For 5 adults and 2 children under 2 the bill was $400. That included 3 alcoholic drinks and a mandatory 18% gratuity. We have eaten at some of the truly best restaurants in kc and around the country. This was an ok meal at amazing prices. We will not be going back. For what you get its not worth the cost.

Best restaurant in Manhattan! But that's kinda like pointing out the best athlete at a Weight Watchers meeting. Manhattan cuisine is dominated by two types of places; bars that cater to thirsty college students, and chain restaurants that cater to hungry college students. I can count on one hand the number of restaurants in town that serve homemade upscale food and Harrys is the cream of the crop. Classy atmosphere - Check Refined yet friendly service - Check Fantastic food - Check Harrys serves what I believe would be qualified as New American fare. They do an awesome job at classics like prime rib and meatloaf. But offer some great originals as well. Point in case; the pork roulade. Slow roasted pork loin rolled up with shrimp and crab, nestled on top of delicious mashed potatoes, surrounded by an awesome chorizo cream sauce, and topped with sauteed greens. Delicious. Sure its a bit pricey, if you're a student, then wait til you get a job. If you live in Manhattan, you have to splurge once in a while right? And if you're from out of town, you're likely here on business; in which case I say, pull out that company credit card and go to town!

Decided to come here for a ladies night and was not dissapointed. You can dress up or just show up casual. Amazing food, with amazing presentation. The servers ensured that you were always well taken care of. My glass was never below half-full at any time! I tried the appetizer, Brushetta and it was delish! The presentation of the appetizer was delightful as well. For $15 you definetly get a good portion. There was 4 of us at our table and there was definitely enough to go around. I ordered the Harry's Iceberg Wedge (small) for my salad and it was the perfect size. I am not sure how big the large is, but the small is about a quarter of a head of lettuce with garnishes. I added a pic! For the main course I had the Roasted Chicken and I recommend that. My friend ordered the Harry's Chicken Gouda and it was very yummy as well. The Jumbo Sea Scallops are tasty as well. My guess, as long as you get what you know you like you will not be dissapointed. Obviously don't order sea food if your not fan....but if you like, order! They had an amazing desert presentation and the taste did not fail me! I added pics of the deserts as well, so check them out! I ment to take pics of the main course but forgot......Call ahead to make a reservation!!!

It was a bit crowded when we arrived, so we decided to sit at the bar and were completely appalled to find a customer smoking there! The decor reminded me of Walnut Room in Chicago, and other 'classy' restaurants. They do serve a wide selection of wine. The waitress was a snooty. She also had the audacity to correct my pronunciation of bruschetta. The bruschetta was delicious (although it tasted much like what they'd serve at Houlihan's.) The food was good, but for the price I was paying, it was not that amazing. Then again, maybe I am a miser. I wouldn't begrudge my first experience dining there. I might go back, but I haven't for over a year now. I haven't found myself raving much about it either.

Harry's is hands-down, our favorite place to eat in Manhattan. Have never had a bad meal, or even a mediocre one. Top flight service, beautiful setting. You feel special just sitting down! Best bet: the Prime Rib. They will even split it for two people. Class act.

Had a filet there and it was the best steak I have had in Manhattan, KS. So tender it melted in our mouths. Service always excellent. Lots of wine selections, professional staff. My only suggestion is that they have a little more light in the booth area as it is extremely difficult to read the menu's by the small amount of candle light. I recommend this to anyone who wants a great filet mignon cooked the way you want it!

  • Melanie-Rose N.

Very nice, upscale, family restaurant with a full bar. It's inside a rundown hotel?? But don't let the outside appearances fool you. They have nice decor and chandeliers inside. I had the Harry's meatloaf and it was the best damn meatloaf I've ever eaten in my entire life! Not to mention,a side crawfish hush puppies! First time I've heard of such a thing but it was SOOO GOOD! A bit pricey but worth it for a dinner night out!

Our experiences at Harry's have always been great. The food is consistently fresh, delicious and you can tell that the owners/chefs take pride in what they create. This restaurant is a landmark in Manhattan. We recommend the meatloaf and the garlic mashed potatoes (which they usually run out of, they are so popular). The bruschetta appetizer is wonderful as well.

The quaintest place in town for a date. The ambiance is nice, lighting good, and food well worth the price. Nice wine selection and wonderful desserts. Where else are you getting creme brulee in Manhattan?!?!?!

Harry's used to be one of my favorite places in Manhattan, KS. I love sitting up at the front watching interesting people come and go while having a to-die-for Caesar salad and listening to Frank Sinatra. As far as I was concerned, nothing needed to change except the dress code. I would see people come in in overalls, cut offs, tank tops and running suits. Would having a "no exposed armpits" rule be too much to ask?!? Harry's has had a turnover in chefs and has done some minor cosmetic stuff since I first started going there. Oh. And the prices have shot up. Surprisingly, there seem to be MORE folks there now. The reason I said that it "used" to be one of my favorite places is that I'm a little miffed I can't afford to go here much anymore. I used to be able to get a great $9 burger. Now, my family of 3 can't get out of there for under $50 and that's with no alcohol. I would suggest any one who hasn't tried Harry's give it a shot. It might end up being one of your favorites.

I've always been crazy about my nephew, and when he moved away from Topeka to attend K-State in Manhattan, KS, I wasn't about to lose contact with him. So, every once-in-a-while, I would drive the 50+ miles to Manhattan and take him out to eat. We'd gone to a few different places--all decent--before we ended up at Harry's downtown which instantly became our favorite Manhattan restaurant. It's located in the former Wareham Hotel--now an apartment building save for the first floor which is now Harry's. It's an elegant looking establishment, with high ceilings with fancy plaster appointments, pilasters, and high vaulted windows on the outside wall. There are cushy lounge chairs (though oddly, not well matched) surrounding white linen covered tables on a lush wool carpet. The lighting is kept low, but not so low as to make one fear stumbling over chairs or other dinners' feet. All in all, it gives the impression that jackets would be required of all men who enter therein, but other than "shirt & shoes" there doesn't appear to be any restrictions on attire (I've always dressed casually in my Tommy Bahama finery, while my nephew usually wore polo shirts and shorts in warmer weather). The servers have always been attentive, though the friendliness has varied quite a bit (not that anyone has every been rude). But in any case, it was their food that brought us back to this place, over and over again during the course of my nephews education at the university. I've never had anything that was less than very good. The vegetables were always cooked through but remained crisp (one of my pet peeves), and the main course was always freshly made, hot, and delicious. Their menu does not have an extensive selection but has more than enough variety for anyone not eating there more than once a week. Some of my favorites include the rainbow trout fillet which is "dredged" in red pepper aioli/pecan focaccia breading and pan fried and comes with herbed white rice and toasted green beans & almonds. Mmmm. That crunchy sweet 'n' spicy crust makes my mouth water! I also like the Salmon, which their menu describes as "Fresh Atlantic salmon fillet, pan-seared, sautéed with smoked red bell peppers, leeks, fresh herbs, finished in a citrus pepper vodka sauce and drizzled with an avocado coulis. Served over smoked portobello risotto." Their grilled portobello sandwich (vegetarian) is very tasty as well. You can see the menu at their web site: harrysmanhattan.com and also read a bit about their history (there are a few other "Harry's Downtown" and "Uptown" across the nation, but this is not a part of any chain). They have a full bar in the front which you walk past to get to the main dinning area, with a fairly wide selection of wines. The only real knock I have against them (aside from being 50+ miles away) is the prices. Most of the selections are under $30 (the 3 I mentioned are all under $20), but they have a few that run a bit higher--all of which I have avoided. But even ordering from the lower priced end of the spectrum will run into some money if you add a salad and/or an appetizer, and/or a dessert, and/or some wine. Go hog wild--or wildcat wild, befitting the locale--and your price tag is going to run you over fifty bucks easy (I selected the "$$" option--i.e., the 11-30 dollar range below as my nephews and my tab almost always came to less than $60). These days, with my nephew doing post-graduate work in Dallas, I only make the trip to Manhattan maybe three times a year--but I look forward to each such occasion with relish. PS. I should at least mention that right next to Harry's is "Howdy's"--a spin-off of Harry's which serves much lower cost fare and is open for lunch only. I have not tried it as yet so a cannot attest to its quality.
