This is way out of my neck of the woods and in a part of Jo Co with terrible highway access so I very rarely make it over here, it's been years! So glad I had a meeting in that part of town around dinner time so I could enjoy O'Neill's. I'm a fan of the home town places so this place is right up my alley. Locally owned, family friendly, great food, big portions so it is great for sharing. I would highly recommend O'Neill's. They are not open on Sunday and don't take reservations. You'll probably have to wait at least 30 minutes but I think it is worth it!

God, I love y'all! Why is your service/food so damn good? A gem on Mission, I declare....

Cozy neighborhood bar and restaurant. Solid, tasty food. Not gourmet but good. An older crowd--median age appears to be 60. Good, friendly servers and large portions.

This Ranch Mart mainstay remains unchanged even after a move across the street. Always a great place to get a hot sandwich entrée and some cold beers. There is an early crowd apartment dwellers from across the street. Time things right and you'll miss the early crowd but beat the late crowd. All the same, the servers here are always friendly, the atmosphere is always amicable, and the food is always delicious.

I adore O'Neills restaurant! I live nearby and my Dad and I enjoy eating here for lunch frequently. My Dads favorite lunch entree is the Asian Chicken Salad, and I have favorites rather than just a favorite. My favorites would be the Irish Pot Roast, Chicken Fried Steak, the Cod and they serve a wonderful potato soup. The ambiance is a warm and cozy feel. We are regulars and enjoy this restaurant.

Good but not amazing. Just another KC Irish pub that isn't really all that Irish. The food was decent, the atmosphere and service were decent, but nothing was especially remarkable. Since we have been on the tour de bread pudding since getting back to KC, we had to try it here too. It was old school bread pudding, made pretty traditionally, but a little too slimy inside for my taste.

This is a busy place at lunch! I suppose that is saying something. I had a Somerset Chicken Salad and enjoyed it. Anytime you put pecans and chicken together something good happens! This is split personality salad... half southwestern and half southern. But it works and was the healthy option I needed. Service at the bar was terrific. The dude was working!

We've been several times, but most recently, we went for happy hour. The weather was perfect and we sat out on the patio. We each had the pork tacos and they were exceptional! Our server was top notch as usual and the bread pudding never disappoints! It's definitely in the top 10 of our favorite places.

This is the best chicken fried chicken ! The mashed potatoes are too die for , homemade salad dressing amazing, and the awesome service .. We love this place !

Granted, we went at an odd time of day, but the service was not very good. Actually, I think our waitress was the only one working the tables and the bar. When we finally got our food, it was warm but both our meals were fried and it should have been hot. The fish was good, but I don't care for lukewarm fries. The tenderloin was ok, nothing special and clearly sat under the warmer long enough to be warm, not hot. My beverage did not make it until after my meal was served. Oops! Happy hour? Not so much.

Best fish and chips in town. But service was slow and the fact they charge a $2.50 up charge for a lemonade on a kids meal when a drink is included was absolutely freaking crazy.

A favorite place for many years. A neighborhood favorite. Always busy. Excellent service. Great bar to have a drink or eat at. Friendly atmosphere. Loads of tvs to watch sports. Nice outdoor seating with more tvs. Great starters, mains, burgers, salads, soups, steak, fish, specials and desserts!!!! Well worth it!

Had a really good lunch here. Place was packed and running s wait. I had a pork tenderloin, my husband had a steak sandwich. Our server was nice about special requests and meals arrived as ordered. Good bread, nice portions and overall, a good, clubby vibe. We will return!

What a great place to cozy up in a booth for a long overdue catch up session with family. Higher quality bar food, if there is such a thing. Driving by, it may seem like your everyday ordinary pub, but it's so much more homey...and clean! My cousin and I were there until past closing and there was absolutely no rush from the staff to push us out of there. The Fish & Chips will last you a couple days...just saying.

Our neighbors rave about this place so we knew we had to try it. We arrived to a packed house on a Thursday evening - 25 minute wait. We didn't mind waiting because it gave us a chance to see the variety of food coming out of the kitchen and look around the place. The decor was not at all what I expected based on the outside. The interior marries classy sports bar and Irish pub. The walls are decked with lots of memorabilia from regional college and professional sports teams. A lot of dark wood paneling and Tiffany-type lighting. The menu was elevated bar food - steak, pork chops, fried chicken, chicken fried steak, salads, sandwiches and wraps, etc. There was a lot to choose from. I asked if the salad dressings were homemade (I have a weird thing about bottle dressing) and they were. I settled on a bacon-wrapped pork ribeye with dinner salad, sautéed veggies and mashed potatoes. My husband enjoyed a jambalaya. My pork was perfectly cooked. The potatoes were good and flavorful. The veggies were good and fresh (not frozen or canned) - they were sautéed and could've used a little more time on the stove as they were a bit undercooked. My salad was good - lettuce (not ice berg!!!), cheese, tomatoes, onion, bacon, cheese, cucumber and good house dressing. My husband raved about his jambalaya and used a roll to sop up every last drop off his plate. Portions were good. Food, minus my veggies, was well-cooked. Service was average to good. I will definitely go back.

Great food! Had the pot roast, it was amazing. Only complaint is that they were so busy that it took a little longer than expected to order, get food, pay.

O'Neill's is like that well-worn sweater in your closet. No frills, but comfortable and familiar. The place does a tremendous business, so don't be surprised if you have a wait at peak times, even on weekday evenings. Since they moved into their current, larger location, the wait seems shorter due to more seating. The menu features a broad offering of pub fare with an Irish influence. I've been eating here since it opened for business and have NEVER had bad food. It's THE place to go for neighborhood locals wanting consistently good food and drink.

My first time there... May 13, 2014. My friend and I sat at the bar. Service was less than poor. The bartender didn't even look at us the entire time we were there. We got her attention to order, had to ask for the check... the pot roast was extremely good, but I felt the quantity of it was low for $15, beer should have been colder but was OK, but what will keep me from returning is the service. I won't be back. I left a 15% tip and that was 14% too much.

Food itself is a 3 or 4 (pick and choose), and the specials are often good. Bar is a 1. It's comfy for customers but it's a cramped, weird set-up for the bartenders, so they have my sympathy, there. But, cocktails are sloppy, beer can quickly go flat because the glasses sometimes have a film, bar service is slow, and it appears to be a challenge and a low priority to keep things -- and hands -- as clean as they should be. When I eat there with family (they *love* the food), I drink water, if anything. Given the ick-factor of the bar, in particular the problem with hand washing and general food safety methods (e.g., grabbing used glasses across the rim and then touching garnish??), I'm not thrilled wondering about the kitchen. That knocks it down to a 1 overall. Blurg.

Loved the pot roast and loved a piece of my husbands steak nice little neighborhood grill. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful as well. If i am ever in the area again I will come back

The average age of O'Neill's patrons has got to be at around 65. Those old people must know what they're doing because the food here is great. The past couple times for lunch I've gotten the Canterburry Pasta. Some times before that I've had the Pot Roast and Jambalaya. All dishes are awesome- really large portions, a diverse mix of veggies, and all sauces used in those dishes are very flavourful. I also want to point out that service has always been solid. The wait staff is friendly, fast, and sometimes quite funny.

How can I NOT give this fine establishment 5 stars? First let me talk about our dinner experience. I joined three friends last night for dinner. Restaurant was packed and on a wait. We waited in the bar and had a round of drinks. Only one bartender working but was he ever fast moving. Finished our drinks and were seated. Server whose name I can't remember (sorry) greater us right away, took our orders. I had the meatloaf sandwich. (Amazing) she kept our drinks full and checked back several times. Much appreciated. But what I appreciate the most was the shear honesty that followed today. I left my wallet on the table prior to leaving last night and a manager Christy called my insurance agent on my insurance card to advise them of my error. So much appreciated. I cannot express my thanks enough on the honesty that was displayed. I promise to pay it forward! Again, thanks to the entire staff at Oneills.

I was pleasantly surprised by this charming upscale pup. Great prices and perhaps the best Chicken Fried Steak in the Metro area. I'll be back !!

We stopped in our local neighborhood bar & grill for lunch largely because they were a participant in the fundraiser for JJ's and oh how we were rewarded. We were greeted and seated immediately. We were warmly and enthusiastically greeted by our server Diane. She explained the specials, offered advice (it's been quite a while since we'd been in) and fetched our drinks. I had the soup/salad combo (you can combine any salad, soup or sandwich into a combo which I love - some restaurants mysteriously restrict these options). I chose the clam chowder & bleu pine salad. The clam chowder was the best I've had in Kansas City hands down. It was thick & creamy with large chunks of potato & clam. MMMMMmmmmm. The salad was delish also with a tart citrus vinaigrette and just the right amount of bleu cheese for balance. We'll be back!

O'neil's is a terrific restaurant tucked away in a strip mall in Leawood. It has the most loyal customers of any restaurant in Johnson County. This isn't a restaurant for people that are looking for trendy upscale fare. O'Neil's is all about comfort foods like Pot Roast, mashed potatoes and Apple Pie. They do these kinds of foods exceptionally well. The servers are all very attentive and the place runs like a well oiled machine thanks to the owner who is always on hand. He seems to know everyone in the place. Here's a couple of my favorite items on the menu. These have never let me down and I'm always thankful that I have come in after ordering these. -Somerset Chicken Salad -Pot Roast -Salmon Burger I always order the mashed potatoes with Cabernet Sauce. I'm addicted to that stuff.

This place used to be great but then they moved...not so great anymore. I've heard this from lots of people who used to love it but say it just hasn't been worth trying lately. Maybe it's the new location, maybe it's that PV has experienced a boom of new restaurants. Personally, I think the quality has just gone downhill.

I can't believe I had never heard of this place until recently when my friend invited me to a Boulevard beer dinner there. For the Boulevard beer dinner, they setup a room in the back which could probably be rented out for a small event. They had 2 dedicated servers who were very attentive throughout the evening and there was plenty of space for the group of people there, including the Boulevard hosts. The beer and food pairing was extremely good and I thoroughly enjoyed each combination in it's own way. Now I expected the food to be pretty good, but I was very impressed with each part of the 5 course meal, each of which was accompanied by a tasty Boulevard beer pairing. We started out with Bruschetta and Spinach and Parmesan dip which were both very tasty. We then had one of the best Buffalo Chicken Salads I've ever had. Nothing crazy, just a balanced combination and solid flavor. For the entree, we had the Irish Pot Roast. Best Pot Roast I've ever had at a restaurant. Amazing. I can't wait to go back and get it again. For dessert, we had the Candy Bar Pie which was sinfully delicious. Overall a great experience and I look forward to going back!

So usually Yelp doesn't steer me wrong, but can't say this place impresses. It's not bad by any means, just not memorable? The drinks were so-so at best, the food the same. Their waffle fries are great, the fish nothing to write home about. The veggie burger should be avoided at all costs--ew. Of course, few people know how to make a good one. The waitress was very friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. If I lived next door, I could totally see stopping by and ordering fries. But otherwise, it's nothing to go out of the way for.

Obviously, O'Neill's is doing something right! It's always packed (and has been for years)! Eclectic crowd, from younger to older. Very popular with older neighborhood folks, with early-bird menu offerings, but by no means an old-folks place. I've eaten there numerous times and the food and service have always been good. They make a good Reuben sandwich and tasty fish and chips (and have plenty of malt vinegar to douse them in)! Not haute cuisine, but a great neighborhood place with good food that's good value. What's not to like about that?

Well, I have been won over by this odd little Leawood gem. It moved locations sometime last year, or early this year, presumably to make room for the monstrosity of a Walgreen's, situated catty-corner from the pre-existing CVS. But that's another story for another day. O'Neills bar area is set up pretty nicely, with a large U-shaped bar, flanked by 6 (?) booths on either side, and tall tables behind it. Lots of rich wood, and dark leather. We've gotten to know the bartender, as we're there on most tap special nights; you can even get a Guinness for $2.75 on Mondays! I've been to many bars who cut half off all beers EXCEPT this favorite stout, so I give them bonus points for that (though they get a solid 5 stars from me regardless). My favorite item on the menu is the pot roast - either as an entree, with mashed potatoes & crisp vegetable, or as a barbecued sandwich, the meat is tender & succulent, with great homemade flavor. Our favorite dish NOT on the menu is the T&A Nachos - order the Tijuana Nachos, but substitute their crisp, thick cut waffle fries. Oh, and ask for ketchup instead of salsa - it's a much better combo. They're coated in their homemade steak chili, and gobs of other goodness. I've had the cherry cobbler for dessert, but we don't usually have room to add on another dish by the time we've scarfed down our hefty entrees!! Even on a busy night when we've gone in just for a couple of drinks, we've never been rushed or felt unwelcome. You've just gotta check out O'Neill's if you like Irish food, owned by a real Irishman, in a very un-authentic strip mall. Oh, and the icing on the cake is that you can stop nextdoor for some Foo's Frozen Custard afterward!

Whoever wrote that this place was a gem, a HIDDEN gem, was spot on! Being a beautiful day, we ate on the patio. We started with the Irish fries, which is the irish take on cheese fries or nachos. I was a little skeptical, due to the fact that I'd never had fries with Thousand Island dressing, sauerkraut and corned beef on them. They were incredible, like nothing I'd ever had before. They give you a very large portion, overwhelming the plate almost, and I'm surprised we almost finished it! I had the Irish Pot Roast as my main course. This is another dish that just blew me away. The meat was perfect, very tender and juicy, on top of homemade mashed potatoes, with cuts of carrots and celery around the dish. I was blown away by the flavors, and that the veges were cooked perfect - crunch and flavorful, but not raw. Dessert was the Key Lime pie and Charlie Brownie(!), both of which were fresh and a huge portion. I am not much of a dessert person, but there are no regrets on making the order! We had watched people come in when were sitting outside, but when we went back into the restaurant to leave we couldn't believe how many people had arrived - it was packed! This place definitely has a following, and for very good reasons. I also want to give a special shout out to 'D', our waitress, who was extremely friendly and colorful. Any patron would be lucky to have her serve them! We will definitely be returning, not just for the incredible food but also for the staff and great surroundings!

O'Neill's is our go to place for lunch or dinner. Everything we've had there is good. I'm particularly fond of the stuffed mushroom appetizer and steak sandwiches. My husband loves the chicken fried steak. Service is always prompt and friendly in the bar area or the restaurant.

O'Neill's is by far the best restaurant EVER! The whole menu is delicious and I always have a hard time choosing what I want to eat every time I go there. The staff is great as well! The managers walk around making sure each table has everything they need and the servers are very attentive and will make sure your experience is pleasant. The atmosphere is welcoming and cozy and a great place to have a meal rain or shine. The patio that they added when they moved is a great addition. They also have a private party room! I can't say enough great things about O'Neill's. You have to experience it!

Large servings, excellent service, several TV's all playing KU Basketball. Not exactly an Irish Bar and Grill though, as a friend of mine suggested it was. I'm not complaining though. Prices were great and the food was even better. This was my first time there. Appetizers are suppsedly half price after 9 PM, can't beat that.

Ok, Ok. I feel as though it's my duty to represent O'Neill's. Please, don't let the fact that I used to work there and have family members working there now dissuade you from reading this review :) In fact, as a vegetarian I haven't sampled most of the food, so it's not like I can just give a blind great review without thinking. What I've learned from O'Neill's, both as an employee and as a server, is that people come here and find an INSTANT favorite. The fact that I never worked a shift (dinner OR lunch) without the place going on a wait speaks for itself. Wait has been up to over an hour on a weekend night and people still happily stuck around--come on. The place is doing something right. Coming to O'Neill's on a weekend? Fridays especially, be ready to wait a while if you get here later than, oh, let's say 6:30. The crowd is diverse--the senior set is DEFINITELY represented well here (as the Early Bird Dinner time will attest), but families, singles, girls night out, and prom/homecoming parties are all represented. If you're given a wait time, just elbow your way up to the bar (it gets really...REALLY crowded) and order a drink. Fridays and Saturdays come with a $5 off bottles of wine special--an incredible deal. I know that reubens, the Irish pot roast and catfish dinners are all hugely popular. The waitstaff is trained thoroughly and through that, many veteran waiters and a great management team, I doubt service will be bad. O'Neill's is also known for it's bread pudding dessert. Seriously, try it out--and come early!

We had a brunch buffet here after a funeral, and the food was excellent. The prices, even more excellent. Get this.... 40 people, open bar, and food for all, around $700. Not bad! Beers were half price, so I'm sure that made a difference, but still. I stuck with the Boulevard Wheat Beer, a KC local brewery. Very good, in my opinion. Our food consisted of: hot spinach and artichoke dip (yum), Brushcetta, Burnt Ends, salad, Some pasta in a cream sauce that was delicious, and easily, the best hashbrown casserole I've ever had. Everything was phenomenal . It was a great banquet room as well. It wasn't huge, but it fit us perfectly. We were even about a half hour early and they accommodated us well... And the bartender and servers were all very helpful. They packaged all of our food to go, even though it was catering style, and they were all eager to help and clear plates. A very nice place to have a brunch/luncheon.

Always consistent, much more than the standard bar food, O'Neill's is a great place to bring family, friends or a client. The staff is very professional and very friendly. They make you feel like you're in your fav neighborhood bar/grille, which they are. This is one of the rare gems that deserves Six stars!!!

My family LOVES O'neils! I only count it down because it's so crowded most times - because everyone else loves it too. The steak sandwich and the chicken fried steak are fab! I've loved everything I've ever tried here except for the chicken wrap which was average at best. Very kid friendly, very diverse crowd. The desserts are very good, we love the cobblers. Because it's so close we just usually order it to go and eat at home rather than wait for a table with the kids. They have a separate to-go entrance in the back which is nice. Great staff. I only had one bad experience when I ordered a baked potato and had to wait forever because they had just run out. It would have been nice it the waiter had mentioned that it was going to be a long wait - I'd have switched to something else because by the time dinner came I was starving and the kids were bouncing off the walls. But that was the exception to what is normally great service.

Yes...I am a fan of O'Neills. This place defies all odds with me. The interior is faux Irish pub set in a suburban strip mall setting. The food is a variety of entrees from pot roast, meatloaf, fried catfish, club sandwhich, and everything in between. Why am I a fan? This place is hard to explain. They draw a lunch wait EVERY day. The place then packs in AGAIN at around 4:30 with the elderly folks for their early dinners. During both of these seatings (lunch and blue hair), copious amounts of booze can be seen coming from the bar to the tables....not a typical suburban restaurant. Then the evening crowd arrives ... a typical largely suburban mix including families, kids, singles, and everybody else. The food has always been OK. The drinks have always been OK. The setting is just OK. Why do I like this place? Well...it has "it". I have discussed the O'Neills phenomenon with many people....and we all agree that some restaurants just have "it". The staff is truly professional with career waiter and bartenders that get "it". They have daily dinner specials that appeal to their patrons. If you open a bottle of wine and cannot finish it...they are happy to cork it and hold it for your next meal (for most O'Neills folks...this will be the following day at lunch). This is the kind of place that has made a name for itself within the micro confines of its ecclectic location. The people familiar with O'Neills are usually folks that live nearby. This place has become their "joint". They close at 10pm. They are never open on Sundays. When O'Neills is open...they are busy. They just have "it". Suggestions: Their Irish Pot Roast is delicious. The Kenilworth Club sandwhich is very good and made with an unsliced chicken breast. Their "steak sandwhich" is absolutely delicious. They make excellent salads. There is something for everyone here. They do everything here....there is nothing spectacular.....but they have "it" and deserve 4 stars. This locally owned place may not woo you on the first try...but no doubt sooner or later you'll understand "it". They also added some outdoor seating last week....small area...but a nice touch.

O'Neils has been a part of my life since it's opened and I've never had anything bad to say about it. Even when I was a lot younger and a lot pickier, they always had something on the menu that I loved. On my last trip, I ordered the Kansas City strip and it might have been one of the best steaks I'd ever had. The salad's my family ordered looked great, and the new menu items, the stirfry and the veggie burger, looked delightful. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal at O'Neil's. They've expanded the restaurant and moved locations since they originally opened, and it still gets crowded! Lots of people love this place, it seems. The staff is all great and fun to get to know. Can't recommend more!
