First things first: we are obsessed with Andre's chocolate covered almonds. For nearly every special occasion that comes up--birthdays, anniversaries, Tuesday, etc.--my husband and I will get a box of these. You've got a perfectly toasted almond, a very slight candy coating, rich chocolate over the coating, and then a dusting of confectioners' sugar or cocoa powder. It's a perfect bite-sized treat with just one or a delicious splurge when you eat a half the box in a sitting (which *rarely* happens....). I've only been here for lunch a handful of times but was impressed each time. Quiche Lorraine is hard to pass up, but I also enjoy the bites of my companions' meals when they order one of the specials. The sides are good; a reviewer complained about the beet salad, but I can't stand beets and really liked how the beets weren't overpowering and how the creamy dressing complimented them. And the dessert at the end always creates a quandary for me. I think I've come to the point where I can't go wrong with the dessert hot dog (it has layers of chocolate fudge, hazelnut macaron, and other delicious components in the guise of a hot dog). But really, all of their pastries and cookies are fabulous. I'm also a fan of their take-home items. You can order a box of their tea cookies, their truffles, or even the aforementioned chocolate-covered almonds. And you can make it a meal by going into the freezer and grabbing a quiche, soup, or other frozen entree. I've been happy with the few things I've bought from the freezer, and they are way better than a TV dinner from the grocery store. Service from the waitresses at lunch were polite, enthusiastic, and very accommodating. The ladies who are at the registers can sometimes act a little snobby and look down on non-Leawoodians like myself, like other Yelpers have mentioned. That's too bad, especially since every customer at Andre's at some point has to interact with them. However, aside from them, it's hard not to find something about Andre's that I don't like.

I have been here several times and it is always a treat! We had the mediterranean chicken with pasta. This dish was the best thing I have ever tasted! Fantastic! For about 16 bucks you only have a choice of 2 or 3 dishes that changes daily. With the simplicity it makes the decision very easy. For the flat fee you enjoy the main dish with excellent and fresh side dishes, bread, and tea or coffee with a selection of one of their unbelievable and beautiful desserts. Can't wait to go again.

Their chocolate torte is soft and melt in your mouth delicious. I'm not even a huge cake fan and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I had lunch there on Saturday around 1pm. It was busy, but I found a place at the bar. They were sold out of one of their specials. I ordered the Quiche Lorraine. When I got it, it was a cheesy not so good thing. I later realized (after reexamining the menu) that they also have a cheese pie. This must have been what I got. It was unlike an quiche I'd ever seen. So I got the wrong item. The crust was a firm, packed, manufactured kinda thing. Not flaky and crusty with a homemade vibe. The sides were beet salad and corn salad. Nothing special. They bring out a dessert tray with about 6 items on it. People were ordering the Napoleon left and right - without even looking at the other options. A lot of regulars there. I got the Hollander. It was ... how do I say this.... gross. It might have had potential if it wasn't cold. It had some apricot jelly/jam stuff on it and it was so sticky and hard. Crust was inedible. Server was ok...she had a good rapport with the regulars, but was short with me. She didn't describe the menu items to me or I would have gotten the brisket. I thought it was bbq brisket, but I overheard her say it had mushroom gravy stuff on it. Anyway, the dessert counter is busy, but if you can budge your way in there, the torte is spectacular. Oh and pay for lunch at the counter. No one will tell you that.

The apple puff pastry and Chocolate Dobosh are really good: yelp.com/biz_photos/andr… Also good: the chocolate engadiner nut torte, and the macarons. But: the chocolate covered almonds are not nearly as good as the ones at Christopher Elbow.

What a great experience! My husband and I went to Andre's for lunch and to pick up chocolates to take as a hostess gift for tonights dinner. For $14.95/each we had an amazing lunch. My husband had a quiche, beet salad and fresh tomatoes. I had the vegetable ravioli, salad and tomatoes. Meals include bread, drinks and dessert. The food was spectacular. The service was great and the restaurant was spotless.

I love both Andre's locations and have gotten nothing but fabulous food, service and value from either. I think the story behind this fantastic Kansas City landmark is wonderful and one that needs to be fostered when considering where to go for pastries, chocolate or lunch. I think Andre's is the ONLY place in town that makes their own croissant dough daily (most pastries are made from frozen dough trucked in through US Foodservice) and their selection of super yummy cookies and chocolates is like nothing else in town. I am a big believer in getting what you pay for and I think in the case of Andre's you may pay a bit more but you are getting the quality and value of a handmade product. I'll never complain about that!

The beef popover was perfect for lunch, which also included a small salad and tomato to boot. As always, their desserts were a perfect way to top off the meal!

Pastries and truffles and chocolates - Oh my!! Andre's in Leawood is a bright, cheery chocolate shop that also has coffee, tea, and a (very) small variable menu. If you expect this place to be a full-service restaurant, you might be disappointed. To dine here, the wait staff will seat you, get you a drink (their mango iced tea is *to die for*), and then list off the 3-4 items they are making for lunch that day. My mother and I both had the quiche and it was yummy! After the main course they bring over the pastry tray and - BONUS! - the pastry is included with your lunch. I had a lemon cake with marzipan and it was delicious.

Let's just start off by saying that the chocolate here is pretty darn good. It's freshly made and I can easily indulge myself in a $2 truffle. If it's chocolate you seek, this place is a good option. Lunch however is another story. The swiss-influenced lunch menu changes daily and on this particular day, I had the eggplant parmigian, beet salad and potatoes. The eggplant was covered in a very creamy sauce and the beets were definitely canned. Not bad, but perhaps not worth $14 a plate. Lots of customers, most of them blue hairs or balding. Also it was a little tight seating me, hubby, and our baby carseat at a table - wouldn't recommend this one for the kids.

I can't comment on the tea room food as haven't ever eaten there but as far as chocolates go everyone in my gang loves my gifts of Andre's. Lots of flavor, rich chocolate, amazing choices. The only problem I've had is once tried to get a hand picked box of chocolates and the counter clerk used her bare hands (albeit fingers) after handling money and I nearly had to turn and ralph (it's not like you go home and can cook the germs out of the chocolates my dear). So the understanding of hygiene isn't really in their vocabulary. However if you don't think about it and get a prepackaged box, it's semi heaven. A lb box will set you back $50. All in all it's worth it.

If your looking for a quality truffle or something to satisfy your sweet tooth then this place is great. Other menu items are a bit pricey and not worth the charge, personal opinion. But the Rum balls are excellent always!!!

I must start out by saying that I love Andre's at its original location on Main Street in Kansas City, and already have reviewed it to that effect. On a recent Monday, however, the KC location was closed, so I drove to the Leawood location to pick up goodies for a party. My experience at this secondary location was not particularly good. One of my criticisms of the original Andre's was that it has no available price list for the items in the display case, thus forcing a person to ask for prices (or not). The Leawood location has the same problem. I think this absence of a price list is a calculated decision on the part of management. Either customers will be too embarrassed to ask for prices and thus won't, probably ending up spending more money than they would wish, or they do ask, and are giving the frosty treatment by the person behind the counter. This latter option happened to me at Leawood. I asked the prices of a couple of things, and the woman answered in a very terse, unsmiling way. When I asked the price of a third item, she sighed, nearly rolled her eyes (it was so obvious that she wanted to), and responded very icily, then abruptly started talking to someone else, cutting off any further interaction. I had to get another employee to assist me. Though I was not pleased, I ended up getting about a dozen individual pastry items, because I didn't have time before the party to come up with another option. (They all turned out to be delicious, which was no surprise.) Another problem- the second employee rang up my order, and then the first employee looked in the boxes and read out what the prices should have been (the second employee apparently having gotten several of them wrong). The second employee then entered those corrected prices in the register. The problem, which I did not realize until I got home, was that the second employee, though adding the new prices, never deducted the incorrect prices, so I got overcharged about $15. If I lived closer, I would have returned and complained. Overall, my experience at ACS was not pleasant, and I would not return to this location, though I will return to the Main Street storefront on a regular basis.

I was intrigued to visit because I saw the review of the downtown one on Check Please KC. Went online and found the Leawood location. I'm a ghetto Johnson county type gal but I will put down some money for my weakness of good food. Only, I don't think that came across as I walked in. I almost could feel the heaviness of snob-ville. Sorry, I didn't dress in the traditional Leawood attire but my money is as green or plastic as anyone else's. I got my couple items and left with roomie in tow. I asked her if she thought the same as I or if it was just me, but she agreed. It's such a shame because the chocolates were really good. I wanted to go back for more. MAybe even try the lunch sometime. However, the service has kept me away.

I find the food a bit uneven. The first time I ate there, the fish was absolutely fabulous. The second time, the choices were meatloaf and a ham/cheese croissant. Ick--I can make meatloaf at home and there are plenty of places to get a croissant sandwich. I didn't realize that the side choices don't change--beet salad, green bean salad, sliced tomatoes. However, my meal did come with broccoli that was outstanding--probably because it was covered in a cream sauce that I would never cook at home. I thought I got my money's worth the first trip, but not the second one.

Good Morning, I have gone to Andre's Overland Park, several times for pastries and chocolates. I have not eaten lunch at this location. Service was always professional and the help was knowledgably about the products. The facility appears clean and tidy. The ambiance is weak as compared to their main street location. The best thing about there desserts is the presentation and wide selection. The prices are moderate the deserts are good, but I have had better on several items. Their seven layered Chocolate Ganache Cake is dry and blah. The pink napoleon is good. I think they put too much emphasis on the presentation (sales) and not enough on the actual product quality. They are better than most pastries shops I have gone to, but I think there is room to improve with the ingredients/baking side. Here it is: the desserts look really good and fancy mouth watering, but after eating the deserts my experience is, I feel a little disappointed and let down.

A weekly treat for me. Definitely a place filled by regulars, but very welcoming to strangers. If you sit at the lunch counter, expect to have lunch and conversation. Even if you come alone..... The service is mostly good. On occasion service can be slow, but always friendly. Dress code is varied. Everything from people in sports coats to jeans and a t-shirt. I would describe the food as comfort food. Dishes that my grandparents made when I was growing up but are becoming more and more rare. Plus the influence of French, German, Italian and Swiss. What a selection. Food taste very good. Even excellent on rare occasion. Highly recommended for people looking for good food in a clean and friendly environment.

Food and service not nearly as good as the Andre's on the Plaza. Very disappointed the food choices listed for the day we were there were not available. We were one of the first tables seated so it was not a matter of running out of the salmon, it simply was not available and another not very good option was substituted. Not good! It seems they were not ready for the luncheon crowd and it took quite a long time to be served with no hope of having water refilled. Too few servers - too many tables crowded together. Not worth the drive and won't go back.

This place was fabulous! My mom had gushed about it so much I finally made her take me. The menu is different every day with the exception of the quiche that I believe is always available? There were two other options the day I went: poached salmon and asparagus ham and gruyere cheese tartlet. I went for the salmon but couldn't resist the tartlet. SO GOOD. They had a few side options where I was able to pick 2 of that were fresh and delicious. The flat price included a lunch option and dessert, so I was presented a tray of 6 fresh and ready-to-devour dessert options. Choose the almond macaroon!! It's out of this world! My cappuccino was delightful as well. The waitresses were genuinely kind and helpful and the chocolates section was irresistible. Everything I've had from there is delicious. I'm so glad this place doesn't give off a pretentious vibe. They care about quality.. fresh and healthy (but still tasty) food. I love the vibe. I'm moving to California but will make sure to visit this place every time I come back to KC. Andre's.. If you're looking for someone to run a San Diego location, I'm your gal! Thanks for a great experience. I just don't enjoy most restaurants anymore so this restored my faith in my favorite pastime.

I have yet to make it over to the restaurant portion, as I have only tasted their cakes. Any time I come into Andres, my first task is to eye the cake counters for a mocha torte bar, or a mocha torte cake. This is my absolutely favorite cake in the entire world, and I don't even mind that it doesn't fit my gluten sensitivity needs. I'll have diarrhea for it, I don't even mind. The buttercream mocha frosting is so creamy, with just a hint of sweet and coffee flavoring. The multiple cake layers are thin and moist. When I purchase the cake, I end up munching on if for days on end. It is such a yummy treat!
