Enjoyed my breakfast at the Depot! Good food, good service! Owner's dream to open their own place. So happy for them. Talented chef! Great space in a wonderful historical building in the first city in Kansas, Leavenworth! Kudos, and wishes for much success!

The building is undeniably interesting, but the staff keeps an overly laid back pace. From ordering it took 40 minutes to bring our table a club sandwich and a country fried steak, and the place wasn't busy. Sometime after that when we should have been offered dessert perhaps, they brought the salads. As for the food itself, they were out of many items on their menu. The club was ok, and the chicken fried steak was pretty good.

Have been twice in the first month they reopened. Food, service, friendly atmosphere, nice choice in music - all were wonderful. What some view negatively as higher prices are... reality. This notion that prices should be cheaper in a small town is small minded and ignores economic reality. New owners have worked hard to dispel prior management's reputation. I wish them great success.

Breakfast is my favorite meal, and Santa Fe is the place to come in Leavenworth when you need good, down-home cooking. Recently I had a great experience: I was so hungry for chicken & waffles, but it's not on the menu. I asked the waitress if the chef might be willing to make it and she did the cutest thing, she hollered to the next waitress "can the chef make chicken for breakfast?" "Sure, why not?", responded senior waitress, "sure, why not?" Answered my girl. Super cute. And when it came it was everything I hoped it would be.

Santa Fe Depot Diner has closed and been reopened under new management. The new name is "The Depot". The food quality has gone down and the prices have gone up.

Had breakfast there on a busy Saturday and it was really good. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly recommend. We don't live there it it is worth the drive.

Food was good with generous portions. Service was friendly and attentive. Restaurant needs some decor help and that is the only thing that is keeping me from giving this 4 stars. Gorgeous old, historic building--definitely a plus. Lots of interesting era pieces and pictures of the depot in its heyday. Love the mix of mismatched dining room chairs. But, and I know this is going to sound weird, ditch the stuffed dog, empty pastry display case, and fake flowers. Oh, and please move the busing station out of view. I don't want to see a bin of other people's dirty dishes on my way to my table. I would totally go back there for breakfast & lunch, but I don't know if I'll be able to resist rearranging some of the decor...

Now known as the depot. The food was absolutely fantastic but the low rating is because the wait staff were horrid. Rude, late, disorganized and seemingly untrained. They brought out cold food after over an hour of waiting, we didn't get drinks until after 30 minutes of waiting, the entire experience was ridiculous. But again, the actual food, even cold, was fantastic.

This restaurant lost its lease and had to close on May 12, 2015. I will miss eating a Super Chief (chicken fried steak) after church on Sundays.

Outstanding! Incredible historic setting (old railway station) and blitzkrieg fast service by friendly Midwesterners.

Love this place! Great breakfast and big portions! Haven't tried anything in the lunch/dinner menu yet.

I had breakfast here a couple of days ago before 4th of July. The name of the restaurant is obvious that this place has a train theme. If you have kids, or a train enthusiast, you will love this place. Otherwise this place is just like any other breakfast stop. Walking up to the place is a bit odd. There is a huge center column right in front of the entrance. It's annoying because you can only walk in one way once the door is open. You cannot walk around it. Be warned. The cash register is also placed in a bad area. It's directly in front of tables. So when there is a long line of people trying to pay and get out, there is a table blocking the area off, making it difficult for people to get through. If you're a server you will have a hard time maneuvering. Despite the odd placement of things and poorly made building construction, the place is a busy one. Our server brought us to our table which was toward the back by the kitchen at a booth. Our booth was odd in itself because the HVAC vent was directly under the table. So the air conditioning was blasting our feet making us very, very cold. They need to consider getting someone to move it in a different area. Whether it's hot or cold outside, I don't think patrons would find that seating spot suitable for a good experience. The food was fairly good. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. I wasn't thinking because the B & G had a selection of side, and I ordered a side of scrambled eggs. So ended up with a whole lot of scrambled eggs. The scrambled eggs were delicious. The biscuit was a bit hard, so they probably aren't made fresh. The gravy could have been a little bit more liberal with the amount poured. Overall it was good and not expensive at all. I think I only paid about 5-6 dollars overall. As for any pet peeve, I believe she didn't refill my water enough. They stuff the cups with shaved ice, so most of it is ice. Like I have mentioned earlier, the placement of the register is horrible. It literally blocks the way to the other side of the diner. One cool thing that I saw, is towards the front by the door there is a special table that is an actual train set underneath some plexi-glass. If I was a kid, I would probably be very occupied with the trains going around the track. I would come back obviously if we weren't stuck by a table with an AC vent directly under neath the table.

Best Breakfast in Town! I would try the eggs benedict. The staff is friendly, prices are good, and food is great. The restaurant is in the old Santa Fe Depot (as you guessed by the name), but it is really a cool building with lots of character. Ride on up for a good breakfast, you will not be disappointed.

Friendly service besides the person who answers the phone which was extremely rude. Good fried chicken wings meal and great prices. Not a place for healthy eaters.

Standard Diner breakfast menu. Early breakfast in Leavenworth is limited. Historic building (little scruffy and sticky), friendly enuff folks.

Just had breakfast here today. Good solid breakfast menu, friendly staff, and quick service. My hubby ordered a cinnamon roll that was awesome - fresh baked and warm. Egg dishes were good, hash brown portions a little on the skimpy side, but the food was hot and well done. We enjoyed it.

next to my fave breakfast spot in dallas, this place is a breakfast fave.....great omelettes and pancakes. old country style place. small town feel. the food is great; the service is slow. if you're ever in the leavenworth area and want good breakfast, try this place. the atmosphere is on the verge of country-style mixed with family-oriented.

Good ol' American diner full of older people who live in the neighborhood. Charming neighborhood feel. Go for the pancakes, creamy celery and mushroom soup, French toast, and Omelet.

I have been here twice and been disappointed both times. It's the poor servic. The food is what you'd expect of a diner but the servers are young and do not know how to treat customers. I cannot believe anyone comes back here.

Just got here for school, so me and my special lady friend are on a quest to find a good breakfast place, this unfortunately is not it. Waited to be seated while the hostess saw us but continued talking with a local about posting a puppy on craigslist. Not the best sign, but ok. The hostess seated us and asked us what we wanted to drink before we got to the table. Not the best sign, but ok. The table was sticky and hadn't been wiped down and the floors were dirty. Gross. But ok, maybe the food is slamming. I was holding out for it... Wait...before we got our food, we were taking in the surroundings and noticed one worker rolling silverware...while eating...gross. (not hidden out of the way, she was at one of the tables in the eating area) Food. Ok. Brace yourselves. My order of eggs over medium came out eggs over easy. Hash browns were clearly from frozen and just barely cooked through, not at all brown and crispy. (just hash, no brown :) the biscuits were very bread like. Not like any other I've had before. It was just like eating a loaf of uncut bread. The bacon was fine. The toast was NOT toasted, served cold, and already buttered. Gross. The coffee was fine though. Oh they also served up biscuits covered in gravy when I asked for biscuits without gravy and the server said not a problem. That was an easy miss, folks. That aside, the food was terrible, greasy, and cooked poorly. I had high hopes for this place. Lots of locals here and it has potential for a good place. But the staff needs to be a spun up on professionalism, cleanliness, and the cooks need to be better trained and the food needs to be revamped. Besides all THAT...the train motif was kinda cool. Won't be going back there, will actively recommend that folks avoid it.

Wasn't too sure how this place would be after reading others reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. The outside building is very old looking, but in a good way. We both had biscuits and gravy which was a gigantic order and very delicious, with scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns. The eggs were mediocre, but the bacon and hash browns were delicious. Coffee tasted great. Service was ok, nothing spectacular, waited a little long for someone to take our order, but not too long that either of us really noticed.

I do not know how other reviewers have given this anything other than one star. Sadly, the best I can say about the Santa Fe Depot Diner is the historical building is interesting. I had your basic breakfast: scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns. It was...not good. The bacon was okay after blotting off excessive grease (yes, excessive even for bacon). The hash browns were hardly cooked. The eggs had a funny taste to them and it was clear no milk or anything was added. Not fluffy or tasteful at all. Not even a healthy portion of Tabasco could save them. So, that's the food. The service was also poor. I drank my coffee to the bottom of the cup and was never offered a refill. We waited for several minutes for our server to get to the table, and then again for several minutes for the ticket. The hostess was neither efficient or friendly, either, nor were the other staff. So, that's the service. The place itself was dirty. Our table bore the rings of the last guest's drink and was sticky, so it was evident they didn't wipe it before seating us. Floors: also dirty. Decor: lots of kitschy knickknacks sitting around collecting dust. If that's what it's like for guests to see, I don't want to consider what it looks like behind closed doors. So, that's the building. I so wanted it to be good, alas, I cannot recommend this place. Yuck all around.

I often come here for breakfast on the weekends and at times there may be a short wait which is understandable and makes me understand that many people enjoy eating here as well and that ALWAYS a PLUS! The staff are always welcoming and very friendly even on the busiest days they always take the time to smile and make you feel welcome.. The food may take a bit but comes out hot and fresh, so always worth the wait.. Its a very kid friendly environment and plenty of room for large familys and parties.. One of Leavenworths down home country cooking at it finest!
