I got the five flavor sampler; you get five small scoops of ice cream in a bowl. The ice cream was thick and can fill you up (five small scoops was a lot of ice cream for me). I ended up with snickers, baklava, birthday cake, mint chip, and blueberry cheesecake. My favorite was snickers; it had chocolate and caramel pieces. My least favorite was birthday cake; the mix of cake, sprinkles, waffles(?), and other miscellaneous chunks left a strange aftertaste. I would come back to try different flavors.

The only place to get ice cream in a cone in town. SO SO good. I often buy pints :)

  • Robert H.

Great ice cream and a pretty good experience. The staff could have been friendlier as they seemed annoyed, but it was late in the day. The menu is certainly set up to nickel and dime you. A waffle cone is a different price than the waffle bowl? WHY? It's the same thing except a different shape! Overall I liked this place. But could really benefit from a more simple pricing scheme like Chipotle has.

Always a line, no matter what time and what day I go. Tuesday's is buy one get on free with a college ID! My favorite is the Cookie Monster. It's def sweet, but they provide water inside if ya need a drink! I've tried multiple flavors as well and have enjoyed every single one!

If you'd like to become fat (or fatter), this is the place to go!!! Best ice cream you will put in your mouth for a long time! Gets busy sometimes but hey, that lets ya know that it is good. Just an FYI here, don't eat ice cream after having a few beers as your stomach becomes a civil war battlefield, the south being the beer and ice cream being the north and again, the north wins

  • Sara C.

Ice-cream was amazing. Waffle cone was even more amazing! The thickness and texture of it was perfect. I don't think I've ever had a waffle cone like that. Thumbs up!

First visit! The ice cream was very good and the assortment of flavors was fairly diverse, if a bit on the expected side. I had a 5 flavor sampler, which turned out to be a good choice. Wee bitty scoops of five different flavors. Great way to try several if you can't make up your mind! If you're a fan of coffee ice cream, check out the dark espresso roast. The strawberry was also good... such a nice & fresh berry flavor. This would be a fun stop after a long afternoon of exploring Mass St!

Came here sorta by accident (or God's will/divine design?) as I intended on taking i35 to kc, but found myself driving 435 w/o realizing it....ANYWHO, was really craving a LEGIT ice-cream parlor and Sylas and Maddies did NOT disappoint! Made-fresh-daily creams in various flavors like sweet cream, choc., strawberry, baklava and house-unique flavors from tgose bases like my selection of the recommended one (forget the given-name) with sweet cream, oreos, choc. chunks, and cookie dough. I'm frequently torn between choc.chip-cookie dough and cookies/cream...but the epic decision was thrown off the table with this even more epic flavor! I was given "up to 5" samples (REAL ones too; on sample spoons but easily enough to warrant a reg. spoon) but being a human with common sense utilized them all landing me on my final decision of aforementioned flavor single (as in one "BIG FLIPPING") scoop with waffle bowl which set me back about $4.50. they have a military night and college night with BOGO free(eq./lesser val.) which if i'd been there an hour later would have gladly utilized. Nonetheless, for homemade ice cream in portions of sinfully good size, the pricepoint was perfect. Set right next door to KU campus, Sylas/Maddies is a quaint, cozy i.c. parlor that, including my stroll around historic/picturesque downtown Lawrence, made a PERFECT break in my road trip; needless to say, I will MOST DEFINITELY be coming back anytime i'm in the area!!! (ps, -1star for sample limit less than the number of available flavors while making all of the flavors so deliciously tempting :-P )

Best ice cream in town. I always order something with chocolate. My only wish would be for more seating.

  • Adam S.

This is not just the best ice cream in Lawrence, it is the best, local, homemade ice cream I've ever had. The staff is always on, and you can tell by the line out the door on a summer night just how amazing this place is. Extra tip - If you just want a small amount, 1 scoop, order a baby scoop. You can split a single into 2 small scoops.

  • Cassandra F.

My cousin in Lawrence recommend that we check this place out. Awesome, awesome ice cream. I recommend the Pumpkin Cheesecake and the Cookie Monster (it's blue!). I got a couple pints to go, but it looks like a fun place to sit and eat too. Right in the middle of downtown.

  • Kevin O.

Good selection of ice cream flavors and other desserts. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly.

  • Susan N.

What to order, oh what to order? That was my train of thought upon entering. I love their wide array of innovative flavors - stuff you can't find in any local grocery. I tried four flavors and while they tasted way too similar to me, I could definitely taste the richness of the cream behind it. My pick was the vanilla ice cream with caramel, milky way and something else in it. But no matter what you pick, you'll probably walk away quite content.

There are certain flavors of ice cream that I have discovered at Sylas and Maddy's that I haven't found elsewhere. They have a good selection with some interesting but well chosen combinations. I would recommend trying this place on any stroll down mass street. It's got real ice cream.

  • Laura H.

I consider myself a sort-of ice cream connoisseur, and I give Sylas and Maddy's high praise. I moved away from Lawrence about 10 years ago and visited Sylas and Maddy's last week. It was exactly how I remembered it, down to the school desks. Wonderful waffle cones and ice cream, you will not be disappointed!

Similar to the atmosphere of Amy's Ice Cream, Sylas & Maddy's has some great specials! On Tuesdays, with a KU ID, you can buy one, get one cone free. Last time that I went, I had a waffle cone with Cookie Monster ice cream, and it was so yummy -- comparable, indeed, in originality and deliciousness to Amy's famous Mexican Vanilla...but at a cheaper price! Doesn't get any better than that.

    (5)
  • Janelle W.

So yummy! They have a variety of flavors, all of which are delicious. It's some of the best ice cream I have ever had. I would highly suggest the waffle cones. It all really tastes like old-fashioned homemade. Next time you are strolling along Mass St, check this place out!

  • Lab L.

A great ending to dinner on Mass Ave. Our first visit....and I jokingly said walking down the street that I hoped they also had homemade fudge like our favorite ice cream parlor in Alameda. What a pleasant surprise to find the same combo in NE Kansas! Hubby got the triple fudge chocolate ice cream and I got a small portion of peanut butter fudge. The ice cream is tasty and the perfect consistency for easing eating...not too hard and not too soft. The pre-packaged fudge piece made check out easy. Can get busy with little space to move around or sit down, but we have a new dessert place when we drive over to Lawrence for dinner.

  • Lauren F.

Amazing!! Every flavor I've tried is awesome, and their waffle cones are a must-try! The Kansas Twister, Cake Batter, Pistachio Almond and Maddy's Mud are my favs! No trip to Lawrence is complete without a trip to Sylas & Maddy's!

    (5)
  • Gennie G.

Peanut butter freak in a waffle cone! All homemade with a little malt ball at the very end of the waffle cone to top it all off. By the way... a single scoop is more like a double scoop so if you want you can share. It's so good you just might want to have both for your own.

    (5)
  • T M.

Good homemade ice cream. Prices are good for what you get. Got the sampler which was 5 small scoops of different flavors.

this place already has all the stars and glowing reviews it could ever need, so i'll keep this short. do you want ice cream? of course you do. get it here. the end.

If you like ice cream, supporting local businesses and embracing your inner child - you'll love this quaint little ice cream shop. I can't imagine you'd ever be let down with one of Sylas & Maddy's great flavors. A must visit when you're on Mass Street.

  • Jennifer T.

I am not really sure why everyone is so crazy about the ice cream here--I have had much better, but it is good.

    (3)
  • Alyssa N.

Mmmm.... This is by far some of the best ice cream ever. Sylas & Maddy's has at least 30 flavors at any time and it seems like they change weekly! Seasonal flavors are delish too. I don't have a favorite because they are all fantastic. They also make their waffle cones daily and sell bags of their cones as "chips". If you like malt balls then you get an extra little perk at the end of your cone - they put a malt ball in the cone to stop that melted ice cream from dripping through the cone tip and ruining your favorite shirt. They also sell popcorn and several flavors of fudge. Their fresh squeezed limeades are yummy too. ENJOY!!!

Homemade waffle cones that taste too good to throw away. 'Nuff said!

homemade ice cream on the best street in Lawrence, Kansas? YES! I came here after getting dinner at the brewery on Mass Street, for dessert. It was the best way to end a night of strolling down Mass Street browsing cute stores and doing some shopping. I got the smallest scoop and thought it was reasonably priced compared to Coldstone, and the portion was just right for me. They let you sample flavors if you ask and everyone was really friendly. I got the English toffee flavor, kind of a mix between butter pecan and some other nuts, and it was yummmmyy. The Jayhawks flavor is another favorite, and my friends ordered the chocolate one with chocolate-covoered chocolate-somethings and chocolate syrup or something like that. Apparently it was decadent and if you are a chocolate lover you should definitely try that. The texture and flavor of the ice cream is awesome and I highly recommend coming here when you are craving cold desserts!

Had Sylas & Maddy's for the first time last week. So good that I went three times in a week. Reminds me of a locally grown & owned Cold Stone Creamery. Not as fancy or clean cut as Cold Stone but excellent never the less. I went with the homemade waffle cone with strawberry & banana ice-cream double scoop. A+ taste and quality. Also had the chocolate chip, and vanilla ice cream. Excellent no frills ice cream. Place was packed each visit. Noticed they offer a great Tuesday buy 1 get 1 offer with student ID. I now know where my Tuesday evenings will be spent for the summer. Oh, the prices are not bad at all. Cheaper than Cold Stone and Ben & Jerry's. I would rank Ben & Jerry's slightly ahead of Syla & Maddy's but not by much. Lawrence sure has some great ice cream options in town. I didn't even mention Culvers, DQ, or Freddy's ice cream. All fantastic choices. I'm glad to have finally tried Sylas & Maddy's.

  • Bryn C.

Always great Finally a warm enough day to really enjoy a homemade ice cream with a fresh made cone. There are so many wonderful flavors here and they change daily and sometimes throughout the day after they sell out. Never disappointed, always delicious and do try as many flavors as possible.

  • Devon B.

The best ice cream in Lawrence! Lawrence has a lot of chain ice cream places and none of them compare to Sylas & Maddy's. We haven't found a bad ice cream flavor yet. They make there waffle cones daily in the store so when you walk in it smells like fresh waffle cones, YUM! Our service has always been great.

  • Sarah C.

Best ice cream in town, hand's down. This is a great place to bring visitors for a scoop after having dinner on Mass. It can be CRAZY busy in the summer and on whatever night they have College Night (Tuesday maybe?). My favorite is Maddy's Mudslide in a waffle cone. My fondest memory will be on my first Mother's Day, when I came in and ended up getting my cone for free because I was a mom. Thanks, Sylas & Maddy!

A Lawrence must visit, and a Lawrence tradition. Locally owned, with home made ice cream that is spot on. It sits on Mass Street, with parking in the front. They have a chalk written menu, and so many flavors, I needed to sample several. I sample seven flavors: cotton candy, bubble gum, sweet cream, salted pretzel, chocolate chip, caramel, strawberry. I decided after trying 7 to make my decision. I chose bubble gum in a home made waffle cone. By the way, they sell bags of broken waffle cones...don't tempt me. My cone was $3.50. Worth every quarter. (I come to Lawrence with bunches of quarters for parking). When I received my ice cream cone, and chose a seat and table, a group of college students came in after me. Business remained steady, and the shop got kind of crowded. The waffle cone had a malted milk ball in the bottom of it. That was a yummy surprise. The bubble gum ice cream was blue colored, with real pieces of gum. I chewed the gum then placed it in a napkin. I can see atleast 7 reasons, or more, to return to Sylas & Maddies. It is hands down my favorite ice cream location in America. Even Murry's doesn't top it. This shop is open year round. Glad I make infrequent trips to Lawrence to experience it. It is now on my "I will stop for ice cream when I am in Lawrence no matter what list."

A great date night spot. Especially on Tuesday where it's buy one get one free with a KU ID. Love getting a scoop and walking down mass street.

  • Ed C.

You know what? I actually do think Coldstone tastes just a tiny bit better, but still that's a chain while Sylas & Maddy's is a local institution. I went there after Papa Keno's last time and I'm glad I did. That was a nice little slice of mom & pop heaven.

  • Andrew L.

words cannot describe how amazing their ice cream is! They have a bit more than just 31 flavors, and the whole place always smells like waffle cones. If you're looking for somewhere to take lovely lady, trust me, she will melt if you bring her to Sylas and Maddy's. Parking is kind of tight since it is right on Mass, and it tends to get crowded on the weekends. All in all, one of my favorite Lawrence originals.

  • Diana C.

Wow! Great ice cream - rich and creamy. A tremendous number of flavors to choose from. We had Praline, Cake Batter, and The Dark Side (a super-chocolatey treat). It was a wonderful dessert to end a long Sunday of driving cross-country.

I shouldn't have to justify Silas & Maddy's. It's amazing. Great originality and inventiveness, with a hint of pandering to the Lawrence crowd. Tuesday's are student discount night.

Sylas & Maddy's provides downtown Lawrence with a lovely place for a sweet treat after dinner or before a movie. The number of flavors available at any given time is well over 30 and new flavors are constantly being rotated in (though there are always several classic stand-bys waiting for you if you prefer some consistency). I'm a person who usually sticks with one or two things at a place, but half of the fun of returning to Sylas & Maddys every week is exploring all the new tastes. The servers are always polite and pretty forgiving of my relatively extensive taste-testing. The ice cream flavors range from average to excellent (and much of the variation depends on personal taste); some come across as a tad artificial but the majority of flavors are interesting and delicious. There are some subtle and others complex and a flavor to match just about any mood. The waffle cones are excellent and lend themselves well to different flavor combinations (the Irish Creme and Butter Brickle are especially complementary). They are the right amount of sweet and baked golden -- never burned. Occasionally you'll find the cones can be a bit crumbly where it's wrapped around, but that is more a testament to the hand-made process than to poor execution. Provided you have any love for ice cream, it would be hard not to find something here you enjoyed. The portions for a single-scoop are very generous, the selection is phenomenal, and the quality of the flavor is well above average. If you're looking for ice cream in Lawrence, give the chain stores a miss because you won't do any better than Sylas and Maddy's. Review: 5 stars.

  • Alexis R.

A locally owned spot with hand-dipped, hand-made ice cream, this is a must-visit when in Lawrence. While a single dip is ~$3.50, it's huge and the quality of the ingredients shine through in a stellar product. They have somethings for everyone from Lemonade Sorbet to rich, creamy vanilla ice cream chalked full of candy bar pieces and chocolate. With an eye towards the imaginative, they have about 30 different flavors at any given time. The home-made waffle cones are delicious too, and the aroma they give off can be smelled about a block away.

    (5)
  • Jennifer H.

Great ice cream, and delicious waffle cones. Cookie monster is my favorite, followed by cake batter and Maddy's mud. The cake batter ice cream actually has pieces of cake in it. Love the buy one, get one for students on Tuesdays. This is the only place I ever order my ice cream in a cone. They're that good.

    (4)
  • Rachel R.

The best homemade ice cream ever! Creamy and delicious in any flavor you could want!

    (5)
  • Stephanie C.

Seriously good every time I go there. My favorite two flavors so far? Banana pudding and Oatmeal cookie. Their waffle cones are so, so good too..love the malt ball at the bottom..it's a nice touch! These guys beat any chain ice cream shop, hands down.

  • Clarice W.

I adore Sylas and Maddy's. Even though Mass St. is littered with ice cream stores (Ben and Jerry's, Coldstone) I would not choose any chain store over this place. They offer a huge selection of flavors that range from classic (vanilla) to crazy (something neon blue colored?) to explosive (snickers with peanut butter, caramel, and chocolate chunks). But my all-time favorite was the blueberry ice cream - not artificial tasting at all with a lovely velvety texture, interlaced with chunks of sweet frozen blueberries - I melted at my first bite. If you go, you absolutely MUST get the homemade waffle cones - it provides a tasty end to the ice cream, as they are delicious even on their own (you get a Whopper at the bottom of the cone as well, which is always a nice surprise). In terms of price, it's totally worth it; a waffle cone with 1/4 lb ice cream is only $3.29. Service is excellent here. Despite long lines the scoopers are friendly and courteous. They offer samples (often much needed to aid the decision making process) to anyone who asks. Tuesday after 6:00pm you can get buy 1 get 1 free cones with a college ID...now that's a deal! With their variety of flavors, Sylas and Maddy's caters to numerous customers, whether they are children who want to satisfy their sweet tooth or older customers who want something a little more refined. They serve good quality ice cream with the perfect balance of creaminess; it's not overly sweet or icy. I'm convinced that the world is a better place with stores like Sylas and Maddy's around. I may have to continue coming back here even during the winter...

    (5)
  • Amy C.

Sylas & Maddy's ice cream is a sugary, melty mess, but what else would you expect from an ice cream joint? I find the ice cream to be good, but not excellent - although I never argue when I'm invited by a friend to drop in on the place. There is a nice variety of inventive flavors and some old standbys. I do feel that both locations could use a good scrub down. And the Olathe location could use some indoor seating. But other than that, S&M is okay. Will I go back? I'm sure someone will invite me, but I never choose this place. It's alright.

    (3)
  • Cassandra A.

Oh my gosh, this place is amazing. The lines can be long in the summer evening, but what good place doesn't? They'll let you try any of the flavors. I love the lemon-raspberry ice cream. They have so many flavors that really one does not stand out because you cannot go wrong.

    (5)
  • Mike O.

Good creamy ice cream, but pricey and small portions. And my cookie dough barely had any cookie dough!

  • Alicia R.

To put it simply, I have gotten a different flavor almost every time I come here, and every time it is wonderful. They have a selection sorbets and sherbets in addition to the many imaginative ice creams...but I haven't tried those yet, though they look excellent as well. They have seasonal flavors (last time I had something with Thin Mints and peppermint chips - yum!) in addition to their daily mix, so always something new to enjoy. The waffle cones are tasty, and you can get two flavors in a single-size cone, which is great for the indecisive. During the summer there is a pretty big crowd, but you don't usually have to wait too long, though it is hard to see all the flavors (they have them posted above, but with names like "Blue Moon," it's nice to see the ice cream). Tuesdays are buy-1-get-1 with a student ID! Some of my favorite flavors: coconut cream pie, Blue Moon, Hawk Tracks, Cookie Monster, lemon custard pie, Kansas Twister...and I always mean to get the blueberry cheesecake, but something else always catches my eye when it's available - one day! Cute and cozy shop, and they have water available near the back, which is nice.

I am a huge supporter of locally-owned businesses, however, this is one of those frustrating situations where the local business doesn't quite add up to a competitive chain (Ben & Jerry's) in two important ways: They do not use rBGH-free and/or organic ingredients. Their ice cream is good, but honestly not that spectacular. If I have a choice for myself and my son, I'll take the "clean" ingredients over locally-owned every time. Now, if Sylas and Maddie's upgrade their ingredients - I'll definitely be back!!

    (2)
  • Nick S.

Honest to God, if I could, I'd eat ice cream from Sylas and Maddy's every day. Their ice cream is rich and creamy, and they have a heavy hand when it comes to scooping. Honestly, a double waffle cone is something that can be had for dinner, rather than desert. For the best bang for your buck, get a split single waffle cone. You'll get two small scoops that still end up being almost too much. The shakes are thick and made by hand, and a brownie sundae is the stuff of legend. The Rock Chocolate Jayhawk is the best regular specialty they offer, but all the seasonal offerings -- be they pumpkin pie in the fall, blueberry or blackberry in the summer, or anything else -- are worth trying, as well. The vanilla bean is the best plain ice cream you'll ever try, for that matter.

    (5)
  • Cimmy R.

My only beef with Sylas and Maddy's is that they refuse to give nutritional information to their customers. My nine-year-old stepson is a type one diabetic and without knowing how many carbohydrates to plug into his insulin pump, he cannot eat this ice cream. So, when he's with my family and we want ice cream downtown, we go to Ben and Jerry's. Sylas and Maddy's is also a bit expensive, in my opinion, for ice cream, but the portions and flavours are awesome.

    (4)
  • Jessica R.

Locally owned and the best home made ice cream in town. They have evolving inventive flavors and the classic hits. I'm a big fan of the Serbets, especially lemonade. Try a lemonade freeze on a hot day. When I'm in the mode for something richer, I go for the oatmeal cookie or blueberry cheese cake. yum

  • Erin P.

If I could give Sylas and Maddy's 10 stars, I would. I would give them star after star after star and still find room for more stars. Best. Ice Cream. EVER. Some of my personal favorites include: Coconut Cream Pie, Hawk Tracks, Graduation Day, and pretty much anything with multiple sources of chocolate all mixed together. I like getting the single (a misnomer as you are able to get two scoops. I recommend getting two different flavors so you can systematically work your way through the menu) or the hot fudge brownie sundae (where you can still get two scoops, two different flavors. I also recommend telling them to hold the peanuts and, instead, give you pecans. Much tastier, IMHO.) It's such an awesome place to convene after a sports event (we usually go after KVKL kickball in the summer after running around in hot, muggy, Kansas summers) or a birthday. I love that they offered free single cones on Mother's Day! It made my first Mother's Day this year very special and delicious. Do yourself a favor and stay the hell away from stupid Cold Stone Creamery. It's a crime to patronize the chains when your local ice cream store is leaps and bounds better than anything a national corporation can spew out!

  • Kelly S.

This is a classic ice cream shop perfect for a treat after dinner while window shopping all the closed stores on Mass Street. (Since all Mass Street stores close around 6pm.) Their ice cream is delicious and lots of flavors to chose from. Their waffle cones can sometimes be a little soft and squishy (technical term) but all in all it's a great treat.

  • Aaron G.

What a cute little ice cream store in Lawrence, KS. The ice cream is very tasty and they make several flavors. Ask for a sample if you're not sure what flavor you want to try. I had the butter pecan and I have never had so many pecans in my ice cream. It was very chunky! Get a glass of water to clean your palate before you leave.

  • Cat C.

This place is a definite "MUST GO" when we're in the area! Out of the 40 homemade flavors they were featuring that day, I had a single (which is really 2 scoops) with the "birthday bash" and "da bomb" flavors. And, well, they were both... da bomb! They ask if you want it in a cone -- cake, sugar, waffle -- or a cup. And what order you want your ice cream scoops in. (Never heard of that before, but brother-in-law swears it makes a difference.) Definitely coming back to support this local business every time we're in town.

Best darn ice cream I've ever eaten. Buttery and rich, clean tasting ingredients. I'm addicted to the chocolate chip.

The ice cream was delish!!!!! I had the jay hawk tracks which contained peanut butter, brownie, and fudge....need I say more. There was approx. over 25 flavors to try and home made waffle cones. The interior was also very cute as well...thumbs up

I update my review this time not because the ice-cream is less delicious but because the service does not deserve five-star. I stopped by to get ice-cream at Sylas &Maddy on one Tuesday as usual. It's my ice-cream day because it's buy one get one free for students with KU ID. However, this time the staff was so rude. I ordered my ice-cream and got it. My friend wanna try my ice-cream so he can choose which flavor he will order. The staff was in a really bad mood with angry face (she's usually like this anyway but I don't care as long as I get my delicious ice-cream) so she yelled at us "PAY OVER THERE, YOU KNOW" As if, we were trying to get free ice-cream. Then, she escaped to back of the store. We are regulars here but were treated so rude. Many people saw what happening, the cashier casually apologized to me instead of that staff after I told him that she was so rude (He saw what just happened and shrugged his shoulders as if he had no idea what got into her). That staff never come out and apologize. You are selling and ice-cream - a happiness symbol. If you are not happy, please don't work there. You are ruining Sylas & Maddy's reputation. I'm still in love with Sylas&Maddy's ice-cream so badly. It's the best in town. Yet, if I see this woman work there, I won't bother going in and get myself a bad mood instead of a happiness.

Go here. Fresh, tasty, home-made ice cream, with creative new flavors and the old classics. I've never been disappointed. This is better than the chains.

I'm not a big ice cream person. I'm not the type of person who buys ice cream. I go into ice cream stores very rarely. The other day, I was walking down Mass st. and I had a craving for a hot fudge sundae. I was between 9th and 10th. Viola, Sylas and Maddy's was just right there. So I popped in and purchased the world most amazing ice cream sundae. Seriously this sundae was KILLER. It was snickers ice cream base with all the hot fudge fixings and nuts. It totally blew my mind. I probably won't have a sundae or any ice cream at all for that matter in about a year, but the next time I get that feeling...I will head STRAIGHT to sylas and maddy's.

Yum yum yum! My first time in Lawrence I made it to the end of the strip, and found a treasure in Syla's and Maddy's. I just thought it was so cute inside! Sure, it's just a typical counter of featured ice cream bins, but the flavors! Enjoy making your taste buds wonder :) I settled on an oreo/fudge/chocolate thing that was delicious. I love it when you can taste the homemadeness in food--and this didn't disappoint. When I came back a week later, I tried the sherbert which was also awesome...gone by the time I got to my car... Also, the service here is really good. Sweet college kids who actually like their jobs...makes a difference sometimes...

Soooo many flavors, and endless samples! We came here when it was 20ish degrees outside, which is somewhat of a tradition in my family - ice cream in cold weather. Eric R. and I tried so many flavors, but I settled on a "single" which is 2 scoops! I got lemon custard pie and Irish cream in a waffle cone. It was SO good! At the bottom of the waffle cone there was sneakily a whopper! I suppose it holds the ice cream from dripping out of the bottom of the cone. Eric R. got grasshopper (mint cookies n cream) and cookie dough. We were both very happy with this delicious ice cream and fun atmosphere.

The Rocky Road was TO DIE FOR! I LOVED that the have homemade waffle cones - also yummy! The cone did get a little soggy and the ice cream started to come out. They put a little malt ball at the bottom, fun surprise.

Yum! Decent array of flavors, including a dinosaur egg(?) option! ICYMI, Tuesday is BOGO night for college students. I imagine it's a popular night. They sell waffle cone pieces in Ziploc bags for $3 by the counter.

This creamery is the cherry on top of Massachusetts Ave. I enjoyed my gold rush ice cream in a waffle cone, it's definitely worth getting a cone! My family was nibbling on my cone since they all got cups...look out for the malt ball at the bottom. My sister got chocolate ice cream and she said that it was amazing, simple (as in the perfect ratio of chocolate to the other ingredients), and absolutely delicious. Another member got the mint and said it was just ok. The customer service is great too!

Tuesdays are especially popular for students (2 for 1 ice cream!) Great variety and they have water coolers set up.

I am allergic to dairy, so when I want good ice cream, I seriously go big or go home. While awaiting a show at the Granada, I hopped next store and grabbed myself a double scoop of blueberry cheesecake and margarita sherbet. Man, oh man, it was some dang good stuff. The ice cream was so naturally flavored and really set apart from the usual. I wish I lived closer so I could peruse my way through the rest of their menu. My only complaint is the ordering process was kind of confusing, hence the 4 stars. All in all, it was more than worth the stomach ache that ensued. I would endure more stomach aches for you, Sylas and Maddy's, I really would.

I've had ice cream from all the best places in San Francisco and the best ice cream I've ever had is Sylas and Maddy's Blueberry ice cream. I mean, WOW. Loaded with fresh blueberries, this ice cream base is blue from being infused with blueberry juice and flavor. It's creamy, not overly sweet, and absolutely perfect. For only $3.76 after tax, a single is really a double scoop at any other ice cream shop and is served in a fresh waffle cone. I'm officially in love.

I don't see why so many people LOVE this place. It's okay, nothing spectacular. I hate when something is touted "homemade" and you can't really tell the difference, which is what I go through at this place. I much prefer Ben and Jerry's or a Haagendaz bar.

if you haven't figured it out by the many number of reviews, their ice cream and homemade waffle cones are delicious. A special note on their sorbet: first off, I am anti- sorbet, but this place got its sorbet down! Tastes super natural with great texture. But sorbets in waffle cones should be a crime. Also, they're not stingy with their samples, which is always a plus in my book!

I always get the waffle cone! At other places cones, drip out the bottom, but the amazing ice cream at Silas and Maddy's is never wasted with their homemade cones. Yay!

Favorite ice cream joint! So many different flavors, and always new ones to try! I LOVE waffle cones and their homemade ones are the BEST I have ever had! I always have to make a stop here whenever I am in Lawrence! A must after dinner or just as a snack!

Sylas and Maddy's is incredible. Mass Street offers Ben & Jerry's and Clod Stone Creamery, but I much prefer Sylas & Maddy's any day. The variety of flavors and the amazing homemade taste are top notch. I usually get the 5 flavor sampler and pick flavors that I'm craving that day. Their cheesecake flavors are some of the best I've ever had. You can't go wrong with Sylas & Maddy's!!!

A wonderfully decadent treat, Sylas and Maddy's serves rich ice creams and sorbets, as well as sundaes, shakes, and the like. Their ice cream is always fresh, and the specialty flavors, such as Rock Chocolate Jayhawk, are delicious. Good service, a local favorite.
