Went here with the family because I had a special deal for their pizza, which they are known for. I've had their pizza at different location years ago and didn't care for it but we decided to try it because of the deal I had. We loved the pizza! The crust was crispy and toppings were great. We really enjoyed it. We also had an order of fried pickles and liked those as well. One thing about this location is it is extremely noisy, hard to carry conversations with your own table because it is so loud.

Nice servers, average sports bar food menu, screens are pretty good, and plentiful. I don't know that there's much else to say here. I have no problem, but the original has much more character. If this is convenient, then by all means, enjoy.

I've eaten at Johnny's a couple dozen times. The food is great! I especially love the pretzels and cheese. Great atmosphere for game day, but fills up fairly early. The servers are great and the cleanliness is well above average. Overall, I recommend it to everyone. Except old people, I always wonder why they're in a sports bar.

Used to be good bar food. Last couple times the food has seemed dried out/ overcooked.

Johnny's West is a great sports bar atmosphere at a convenient location. Johnny's pizza is the best in town. The Vegetarian pizza options are good. The same friendly people as the original Johnny's are taking care of you.

The original Johnny's Tavern in North Lawrence is an institution. There are other Johnny's locations in the Kansas City area, to varying degrees of success in replicating the original. Johnny's West is a watered-down version of the original, and it's only a few miles away. Why not go to the original? The service is sub-par at Johnny's West, and many menu items differ greatly (read: not near as good) from the original. The burgers -- what the original is most known for -- are fine, as is the pizza (a more recent addition to the original), but if you're in Lawrence, just skip this place in "East Topeka" and go north of the river to North Lawrence.

Johnny's West opened August 2009. I was leary about how it would stack up against the original in North Lawrence- a classic destination spot. I was and still am happy to have another great Johnny's in my neighborhood. Friendly, fun, always a good crowd and still the best pizza in Lawrence. Good job Rick! You've done it again.

The appetizer platter is wonderful, I like the cheese balls on it. They also have good pizza, good chicken strips and good fries. For some reason though their pub chips taste like old oil.(I've tried them on two occasions and then asked for them to be replaced with fries.) Very disgusting but that's my only complaint. They have live trivia on Tuesdays at 7. I'm glad it's at 7, most other places in town are at 9, just can't do late on a work night.

This is the place to go in north Lawrence for sure. Pretty decent food and really good pizza. All I all I'll come back especially if I'm in north Lawrence. All around nice bar restuarant with a casual vibe and nice staff.

As a sports bar, this place has it going. I throughly enjoyed the "behind the scenes" tour I got of the video system. They have an Ipad that controls all the tv's and audio. Individually controlled televisions, three audio zones and multiple streams. The complete system is pricey. With this kind of dedication, they mean business. The food is good, I had a Boulevard Brat and it was wonderful. The menu is packed with food items that have been "plussed" in one way or another. If you want a sports bar, this is my new go to spot.

A tentative review, I was invited to Johnny's last night by some new friends and did more talking than eating and drinking. I was warmly welcomed by the lovely bartender who attempted to help me find my party. Once found, I imbibed in a couple pieces of sausage and pepperoni pizza and a glass of draft IPA. The pizza was the right thickness and consistency for NY style pizza, standing up well to the sauce and remaining firm enough to eat by hand. Cheese to sauce ratio was right on although the sauce had an odd taste that was slightly off-putting. The toppings were abundant and delicious. The IPA, oddly enough, came in an unusual glass, maybe 12 ounces instead of the "pint" I was expecting. IPA is uniquely English and should come in a pint glass, preferably AN ENGLISH PINT which is a little over 19 ounces as compared to the whimpy US pints (16 ounces) we colonials have somehow become accustomed to. It was tasty enough, but another 4 to 7 ounces would have quenched my thirst much better. Our young blonde server was very sweet and attentive, a former swimmer with an engaging personality and a keen eye for empty glasses. She hovered around just enough to keep everyone happy, removing waste as she came and went. The service was excellent! Worse idea ever. Don't sit at the bar and order a pizza to go. Bartender playing on her phone and being social and nobody bringing out kitchen orders. Hour and 15 for a warm pizza!

Walked in & hostess was telling the other hostess, "they have 3, but 2 of them are kids, put them in over there." Really felt they didn't want us there with the conversation I overheard. Was not impressed. Kids orders & I ordered a Freestate Blue collar beer. Little bit later I ordered my food. Their food came in about 10 minutes. My food came quickly, from another person, still no beer. My server dropped off a Copperhead without me noticing it was wrong. Didn't see her again until time to pay......food good, really need some help on the service.

I eat here often. I live to close & it is convenient when I don't feel like cooking. Haven't had a bad meal here yet. Simmon's Wings are great. Burgers great. Chicken tenders great. Pizzas good. Blue collar draft by Freestate is great. I wish they would bottle it. Draft beer should be cheaper, but it is a BAR. $4 for a local draft. I travel a lot & find drafts for $2 quiet often. My opinion that should be nation wide price. Sometimes I just order food to go & pick up 6 pack of Freestate for $7 at liquor store 2 doors down.

Overall Johhnys West is a good bet for a cold libation and some good eats. Today I had the corned beef and cabbage and it was OK but their burgers and pizzas are much better. Service is usually above average and the plethora of TVs makes watching the game an easy task.

I love this place and the bar is beautiful and always has good beer on tap but I am giving this place two stars only because the service has always been awful and I have never seen an exception to this. Last time I was there we had one girl serve us to start off then another one finished serving us and there was no communication between the two so we basically were forgotten about. At one point, I got up and grabbed some extra napkins and the owner saw this and had a guy come check on us but by this point the damage was done and I was already upset. On a separate visit I was just there getting drinks with friends so not much could really go wrong. I ordered a scotch and water and the waitress brought be a bourbon and water. I waited a few minutes and when she did not return I decided to cut my losses and drink my incorrect drink. Finally, she came back and I asked her what happened and she said she put it in correctly. It floors me that they have bartenders who do not know the difference between bourbon and scotch.

Ordered a 78 classic cheeseburger to go-- well done. Gave them 40 minutes. Got it home and Joe dug in. Middle was completely pink. Unhappy customer.

Located in West Lawrence, easy access and a great place to watch games. I tried the Chicken Fingers, they were huge, the batter was delicious, the chicken was very moist and flavor full. I got the fries and rings combo. the fries were good, I am not sure the onion rings were fine but not out of the park. The last visit I went in for a pizza special on Mondays. Five dollars off of a large pizza. 'the pizza was New York Style. We had Italian sausage and jalapeno. The cheese was very good and the pizza sauce was outstanding. Johnny's original is a place everyone should visit but if you are looking for a great place to have a business lunch, want to take the family for dinner or just want to hang with friends and watch the game. Johnny's Tavern West has TV's everywhere, the staff is friendly and the beer is cold. You can't go wrong here.

I live in Las Vegas NV, but around July 11 & 12, 2011, while visiting an associate in Overbrook, I had an opportunity to visit Johnny's on those two days. I can honestly tell you that, in 62 years of eating, the pizzas served at this establishment are by far, the very best on Planet Earth, bar none. I've never had better-tasting pizza, anywhere. It's a sports bar atmosphere, but what really made the visit super-enjoyable for me, was the fact that all of the 20-something female servers were Jayhawk co-eds, wearing cut-off jeans, each one sporting a pair of SINsational, drop-dead gorgeous gams. Seeing them made me want to audit some classes at nearby KU, to be sure. Good food and good fun can be had at this delightful place, and it is my fervent wish that they will open up another one, soon, in my town of Las Vegas NV. Rock Chalk, Friends!
