I went to this sit down restaurant in the Kansas Union with some other staff this week for the first time. I hear that it has been a staple in the Kansas Union since the building opened. It was really nice and it was reasonably priced. I had a Reuben which was really good. That's what I always order at new places when it's on the menu and this was one of the best.

Delicious!! Who would have thought you could find such a nice cafe in a student union? I ordered the grilled reuben with fries and my husband had the classic cheese burger with a side salad. It was the BEST I've ever had. The corned beef was extremely flavorful and there was just the right amount of sauerkraut. The rye bread was fresh and delicious. The wait staff was very friendly and if I lived in Lawrence, I would make it a point to go back.

I go to Impromptu about once a month for a fancy-ish lunch while at KU. It is definitely way better than the other food options in the Kansas Union. It's a good lunch menu. They have a selection of sandwiches, burgers and salads, and a few more "entree" type options. They also have a daily quiche, special, salad, soup and dessert. The menu changes slightly every semester so it's nice to have some fresh options. The food is good, not amazing, but solid and tastes the way you expect it to based on the menu descriptions. The waitstaff and manager are always very nice and friendly! One of the best things about this place. They are happy to split checks and don't mind if you hang around for a while after you finish your meal.

The only sit-down restaurant in the Kansas Union, it is a reliably pleasant place to eat, with some variety, a very pleasant front desk, and a nearly all-faculty clientele.

Man, the student union has everything from a salon to this cute cafe. Came here for a lunch with 2 faculty members, and we definitely enjoyed our time chatting for a couple of hours. Unlike UCSD's ghetto dining options (outside of the amazing faculty club food), KU seems to offer more to its students. Impromptu Cafe has a good variety of options ranging from sandwiches, burgers, salads, pastas, and unique entrees. I opted for their special of the day: asparagus and mushroom ravioli. It was hearty, creamy, deliciously seasoned and fresh. The only downside was that the edges of the ravioli seemed to be overcooked and slightly dry. Great spot if you want to sit down somewhere for a more gourmet feel. Reasonably priced too!
