    Just okay at best. I'm new to the area and have been sampling many of the numerous BBQ joints. So I stopped into this one while driving by. Paid $11 for mediocre at best food. Nothing stood out. And there was hardly enough. It was meant to be a BBQ dinner and was more like a sampler. Never going back

    Absolutely delicious. We shared a pulled pork sandwich, a half pound of burnt ends, onion rings, and baked beans. The onion rings were crisp, the beans complex and flavorful, and the meat was unbelievably tender. Everyone was friendly and service was fast. Easily in the top three barbecue places I've ever had. If you are in Lawrence, you should go!

    I came to the place on the yelp recommendations. Smelled good. Quick order placement. Clean. 2 meat plate w/2 sides. Beans and potato salad were so full of sugar I couldn't eat them. The turkey was lunch meat. The ribs were cold. I sent them back twice. The 3 Ed time they were correct. They gave up the new chocolate cake for the inconvenience-it was gross. Summary-I would not recommend or return to this place.

    The ribs and brisket were very tender. It isn't often I clean every bit of meat from a rib, but in this case it left you wishing for more. We were told to go here from our hotel desk clerk, you know those recommendations don't always pan out, not this time though. Take the time to go and enjoy a great experience.

    Never thought I'd leave a mediocre review for Biemer's, as it remains one of my favorite BBQ places in Kansas. That said, when I returned after a few years during a visit home, I found portion sizes were embarrassingly small for the price. For about $8.50, you're treated to a sandwich that is roughly the size of about two standard sliders. The sandwich includes a very thin serving of meat. The fries that accompany the meal (price doesn't include drink) are smaller than what I would expect from a McDonald's Happy Meal. Taste - great. Sauce - second to none. But if they want my family's business they'll fix their embarrassing portions, as they're currently way overpriced.

    I give this place 5 stars for the wings alone. $15.00 for 24 wings is a great deal. They are served dry, with sauces on the side. Even without sauce, the flavor is amazing. Everything else they serve is just bonus in my opinion. We haven't had a bad meal there yet! And, about once a month, they donate a portion of their sales to Baby Jay's Legacy of Hope. Good food served by people with a good heart!

    I really like this place. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. First of all, the dining room is very inviting - clean and open. Second of all, the folks here are really friendly. Third, the service is super quick. What...what about the food you say? Well, first we have to talk about most barbecue places in the whole world - if you aren't whatever Oklahoma Joe's is now called, your barbecue isn't that special. Face it. It's probably a little dry. It probably doesn't have any magical taste qualities, but is dependable roasted meat. Biemer's is just like most places in that regard. Had the ribs, the pulled pork and the turkey and it was all just fine without being lyrical or magical or giving birth to unicorns on my tongue. That having been said...I tried the sauces, and they were all very, very good. Super yum. Well above the average. Winning. The hot and tangy was very pleasantly vinegary and hot without being unpleasantly firey, the sweet sauce wasn't too sweet, and the regular sauce was very solid and tasty. Combining the sauces was also a winning strategy. The french fries were good, the slaw was good, and I was a happy eater. I will return and sample the otter sides, but I'm very prepared to rate this place highly right now. Certainly my new, go-to, family friendly BBQ in Lawrence. [Update: it's the chicken wings! Barbecued and then flash fried. ORDER THE WINGS.]

    Went here as it was highly recommended by locals and I was from out of town, expecting something great considering all the hype with "Kansas City BBQ" but this place was super mediocre. The buns tastes like dollar store bread.. They don't even put any sauce on the meat, and the service wasn't service at all. My suggestion.. Make the hour trip and get yourself some real Kansas City BBQ from Jack Stacks. This place sucks

    Wow the ribs were wonderful, my favorite sauce was the regular but the vinegar was also good. Fried green beans are my friend. Norm had a nice pulled pork sandwich, he liked the regular sauce the best.

    5 stars for food 5 stars for service 5 starts for clean 5 stars for classic country on the radio I just got back to Lawrence after 4+ years in New York. Meaning I was in a good bbq desert. I went right to Biemer's. I was a little apprehensive because I was a happy, loyal customer from the very beginning--I did not want to be let down. If I remember right, there was even one time the owner delivered my order, back when they did delivery, in pouring snow and bad conditions, with piping hot food. But I was not disappointed. I got my staple--the smoked turkey baked potato and covered it with the sweet and tangy sauce. Delicious. My husband (also a long-time fan) was happy with his pulled pork sandwich with the hot vinegar sauce. Not much more can be said about it--it's really great food. Right up there with the best I've had in Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee... Bonus Biemer's is the type of place everyone can feel comfortable in. It's decorated like a classic, casual bbq restaurant, with everything very well up-kept and clean. It has huge windows with natural light and a great view of the park. Real mix of people working there, and eating--which, to me, is the best sign of great food. (Some tattooed and pierced like me, some office workers, and some t-shirt and jeans my Okie grandparents would approve of.) And when I was there, a Willie-centric playlist was playing. Which made me very happy. I'm still a loyal fan.

    This place was recommended to me by someone. It was billed as the best barbecue in Lawrence. I'll believe it. It's almost like a hole in the wall right off of Iowa St in north Lawrence. It has an eclectic decor and a friendly staff. I had a lunch plate with burnt ends (of beef brisket) and pulled pork with a couple of ribs (just to sample, as the sell them individually). I had potato salad and onion rings as a side. The burnt ends were great, especially when paired with their regular sauce. The ribs were out of this world-- some of the best I've ever had. Slow cooked and falling off the bone but not only that, the cartilage in the ribs had melted down to a jelly inside the meat. So good. The pulled pork was pretty good especially when constructed into a sandwich with the bun that accompanies the plate. I put some sweet and tangy sauce on it and it was delicious. The sides were fairly standard and the onion rings even a little greasy but overall this meal rocked. Great BBQ!

    I'm a regular here (as my cardiologist allows). The pulled pork sandwich is the best in Lawrence and I've tried their other meats as well (turkey, sausage) and have never been disappointed. Great staff and clean place. It's not cheap food but you get what you pay for...its high quality stuff.

    I've been to Biemer's a few times now, and they're pretty consistent with their quality. Easy brisket, or pulled pork sammies have been my choice. The meat straight has mostly had a pretty good moisture, texture, and flavor by itself. They do offer a pretty good selection of five sauces in addition as well. The atmosphere is pretty laid back and reminds me of a local, down-home fast food joint. I've had okay service from the staff.. It'd be awesome to see a little bit more passion behind a crew roasting up some good BBQ! ps.. They're billboards are always entertaining too.

    BBQ is a tough business. One of the problems is supply and demand. You want to have enough to sell but you don't want to have so much that there's the temptation to let it sit around and get dried out. I'm a seasoned BBQ amateur with experience in just about every Kansas City venue to speak of over the years. Never thought I'd review a Lawrence BBQ joint because I simply don't frequent them. If I want BBQ I drive to KC. But last night I decided to get some with friends coming over and purchased two slabs of ribs from Biemer's. They were *just fine," indeed. I've had their cooking a fair number of times but almost always as a result of a catering, always enjoyed it. So yes, I'm not surprised there are some not so generous reviews of them. I think BBQ you don't want to be showing up on a Tuesday are 3:30 to purchase it or Sunday night late. No telling what you might get (goes for most restaurants, actually). But last night, they nailed it just fine. No complaints. Smokey, tender, you could cut a single rib and pick it up and eat it from the bone. As soon as you bit into it, the meat came cleanly off--the way ribs are supposed to be cooked. Sauce is to my liking with some sweetness, smoke and not too much salt. Thanks, Biemer's. Made my guests and family happy last night. I'll have to rethink Lawrence as a BBQ option in the future.

    I went for my brothers birthday a couple months back and I loved it. The food was delicious and I loved their sauces. The service was so good I had to tell the manager (well, my mom made me) and I never do that. Go there!

    I really liked Biemer's! I'm from Oklahoma and it reminded me of home. I ordered a rib dinner to go. Most of my ribs were from the short end, so they were pretty small, barky and chewy, which I was okay with, but some people would hate. Definitely a fair portion for the price. The slaw had a vinegar dressing, so it was more like a salad to me than slaw, but it was still good. Baked beans were great: sweet and rich, not too runny or smoky. Note: the Hot BBQ sauce here is HOT! I've never had hotter BBQ sauce. I'm pretty sure they just added pepper extract to their regular sauce, but I couldn't tell since my eyes were watering and I started coughing a lot. Definitely try if you like spicy though!

    Great food for the price, a little dry and the guy taking the order wasn't really paying much attention to me, or my sister, and got mine wrong, even though I repeated that i wanted pork three times. The food, I can't say I agree with some of the others on here. It was a little dry, but it was late in the evening close to closing. I tasted the sauce by it self, and the meat by it self, then ate it together. The sauces are mostly sweat sauces, aside from the hot vinegar. Mixing the hot vinegar with others produces a great taste in several instances. To my pallet there is NO liquid smoke in the sauce. The meat, alone, did in fact taste smokey, hopefully due to actually being smoked. Considering the affordability and availability of smoking woods, there is no reason it shouldn't be. What would be great, is if they picked up local smoking woods, and local meats for their work, but I haven't really collected those details. What I got was brisket, turkey, potato salad, and the fried pickles which were a little under done. The potato salad was great, I am often disappointed by "unique" formulas for potato salads, but this one was pleasant and repeatable. The atmosphere was neat, and a little retro, which is nice. I would eat there again...

    The first time I drove to Biemer's, it was at 8pm on a weekday and they were sold out of ribs. The next time I went at 4pm and ordered three single ribs and regular fries. I liked the meat; it came right off the bone. The regular sauce, however, was a little sweet for my taste. I also liked the fries because of the salt and spicy seasoning (they could put a little less next time). Like other reviewers, I also think the price is high for the portions that you get. But I would come back next time I have a craving for BBQ.

    I will agree their price is pretty high. But I have not experienced anything that wasn't delicious, and I always feel like im gunno 'splode when I am done eating here. The sauces are GREAT! I always go when I am in KS. The reason i gave a 4 star is because it is pricey and portions are small, but deliciousness is their saving grace.

    This is the real deal. You smell the smoke as soon as you walk in. Came with a large group a few weeks ago and we all had a variety of things off the menu and the universal opinion was that everything was good. I had the ribs and you could see a nice smoke ring on the meat that was still moist and flavorful. The sides were all good and the beer was cold and cheap. Keep up the great work. Will be back for sure next time I'm back in Lawrence.

    I was craving some BBQ at lunch, so I decided to run to Biemer's, since I stick to my belief that it's the best BBQ in Lawrence...but that Lawrence is also a really mediocre BBQ town for being so close to Kansas City. I ordered a regular pork sandwich and a side of fries, since it was on special - came with a regular drink for $7.50 or so. I felt this might have been slightly steep, but not terrible. Anyways, in my last review I said that consistency is the problem here, and I still stand behind that. The pork had a delicious taste but was slightly on the dry side. The fries were crinkle fries (the best of all fries) and had a nice seasoning on them...something different than just your plain old salted fries. Not a huge side of fries, but fine. I am not, however, a huge fan of the sauces here. On the table has three kinds - a regular, a sweet/tangy (or something like that) and a vinegar. None of them jump out as great, and are rather boring and do not have a ton of taste.

    Best in Lawrence, hands down. Right up there with ANY KC joint. Their smoked turkey is the best Ive had. I picked up a nice sampling of meats for a recent party, wow. Slab of ribs was spot on. Very friendly staff, highly recommended.

    To begin with: I do not consider myself a BBQ elitist. But even so, Biemer's did not cut it for me. It wasn't atrocious. It just didn't satisfy anything in me. The pulled pork was pretty dry and lacked any slow-cooked richness or smokiness. The brisket was similar but worse - I think they'd rendered off too much of the fat. I really do appreciate that Biemer's responsibly serves 1/3 lb of meat in their sandwiches as opposed to 1/6 lb fat + 1/6 lb meat like a lot of cheap joints do. But the fat is also where the flavor is, and these sandwiches had little of that. That being said, the 1/3 lb sandwiches are pretty cheap (5.49 for a pulled pork, 5.89 for a brisket) and they don't skimp on meat. They don't serve the sauce in the sandwich here like many BBQ joints. I usually prefer this style because it allows you to choose your favorite sauce, but with the dry meat here I felt like the sauce was no longer a condiment, it became a lifeline - and not a great one at that because the three sauces (hot, vinegary, sweet) are not anything special. Also, don't get the fries - they're undercooked and overseasoned all at the same time. And maybe we came on an off day, but service was WAY slow! I'm not sure I'll be returning. I'm all for small, off-the-beaten-path restaurants, but I'm really just underwhelmed by this place. Maybe I'm on my way to becoming a BBQ elitist...?

    Best BBQ outside of Kansas City. You need to get here as close to meal time as possible to enjoy moist, delicious smoked meat. Plus, there are a wide variety of sauces to try. My favorite has to be the hot vinegar.

    Very good restaurant for being the in the shadow of KC BBQ. Meat is served sauceless, so you can add your flavor (Original, Sweet & Tangy, Vinegar, Hot Vinegar). My favorite is a little of Hot Vinegar and Vinegar. Sandwiches are good size, not huge to make you regret ordering one, but still satisfy. Fries are basic crinkle and seasoned, very good taste. However, they are a little pricey for a small amount ($1.69 for a McD small size bag). Cheapest beer I've seen in Lawrence too, $.99 for PBR and Busch Light cans, $1.75 for the rest of the domestics in bottles (including Blue Moon!) and $2 Boulevard Wheat. Highly recommend visiting this little shack at 9th and Iowa if you can't make it out to Kansas City and want a quick meal.

    All BBQ in Lawrence pales in comparison to its KC counterparts, but Biemer's is my bf's fave in town, so I gave it a shot. We both ordered pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, fries, and baked beans. I hafta say, I enjoyed the sides way more than I enjoyed the sandwich! The coleslaw was fantastic and vinegar-y rather than mixed with mayo. The beans and fries were also solid. As for the sandwich, I thought it was very, very dry. Even after dumping tons of BBQ sauce on, something just didn't quite work.

    Meat. Best smoked meat in town. They say it's cooked daily and I believe 'em. Prices are a bit higher than I expected...but I frequent monthly so it sounds like I'm willing to pay. Sauce. I don't care much for the house sauce-I'm not a savory sauce fan so try it for yourself. Like a vinegary-Carolina goosebump sauce? They have it. Guilty of preferring the sugary KC slather like me? Biemer's make something that works, but it's ain't no Curly's. Sides. The slaw is the watery-tangy kind while I prefer creamy kfc. *blush* They serve a side of cold macaroni salad that looks like mac & cheese which-I think-would be a killer addition to their menu. The Merc does it. Cons. They close at 8. Don't be late. Last time the Blue Moon and Boulevard Wheat signs reminded me to order a cold one, I ordered one but they didn't have either. That looked bad. Send someone to the liquor store. They do have a drive-through. And I'll be back!

    I think my favorite thing about Biemer's is the BBQ sauce. Don't get me wrong, they have outstanding brisket and pulled pork, but their sweet BBQ sauce is by far my favorite.

    By far THE best BBQ in Lawrence. This place started in a gas station and was Lawrence's little gem. Now it's in the old Bucky's place and has a drive thru! My favorite is the pulled pork, topped with the hot vinegar sauce. This was recommended to me by the owner himself (super cool dude). Something with the vinegar complimenting the meat. Whatever it is, it's spot on. I don't even put any of the traditional BBQ sauces on the sandwich, they aren't needed. Also my favorite is the cole slaw. This is not a creamy coleslaw, instead a sweet/tangy vinegar based slaw with celery seeds. YUM. Their ribs are also fantastic. Fall off the bone tender with great smoky flavor. I love driving by their restaurant because their marquee has ever-changing funny sayings. My favorite that's now a shirt they sell: We rub our meat daily ;)

    After tough meetings and a bad day, I had the opportunity to try yet another restaurant in yet another city in another State. Biemer's was a great choice! The food was outstanding and I will have them cater my next business event but the tip of my hat goes to my server, Charlie. Her smile and attitude changed the course of my day. I can get good food at lots of places but that kind of friendly service makes traveling much easier.

    Biemer's is fine and dandy as a restaurant. It's decent. But don't call yourself a BBQ place when you're located in the shadow of places like OK Joe's, Arthur Bryant's and LC's. Just don't.... Change the name to Biemer's restaurant and I have no problems, but those beans don't hold a candle.

    Please, hipster Yelpers of Lawrence, quit knocking this awesome BBQ joint just because it's not recognized by name in Kansas City. Biemer's offers fantastic food with fantastic service at a really fantastic price. The main thing that stood out about the service at my trip was how fast and friendly the people behind the counter. My order was taken and not even 2 minutes later it was ready to go. And at the prices they offer, it's a steal. You can get a regular sandwich, fries and a bottle of Boulevard Wheat for under eight bucks. You can't really beat that anywhere else in town. As for the food itself, it's outstanding as well. I had a pulled pork sandwich and it's really juicy and flavorful, even without the BBQ sauce. Speaking of the sauce, I've never been a huge BBQ sauce fan, but this is easily one of the best I've had in recent memory. It's tangy and not too overpowering of the meat's natural flavor. Great stuff. I also got a (HOLY EFF GIGANTIC) baked potato. It's nothing special, but the terror of its sheer size makes it a bargain. Everything about Biemer's works. From the food to the service, they really pride themselves on making sure your visit is awesome. I'll be returning a whole lot.

    Okay, eating with a pig staring at you is weird-But that's where my complaints with Biemer's stop. They have great brisket and pulled pork. AND delicious golden fries, all at very reasonable prices. You can even enjoy a beer for only two dollars. AND.. FRIED PICKLES. if you get nothing else, get the fried pickles you will hold regrets with you the rest of your life if you don't. That's kind of a promise, more of a threat. GET THE PICKLES. The sauces are really good, amongst others, they have a sweet, my personal favorite, and tangy vinegar, my boyfriend's favorite. I ate here sometimes 3-4 times a week. Yeah, it's that good.

    I'm from Georgia, and we have a different style of BBQ than KC down there. Biemer's is PERFECT. They have several vinegar-based sauces and the meat is always tender. Also the fried pickles are amazing and their hot vinegar sauce is the best!

    I grew up eating bbq in Alabama and Georgia, so my bbq preferences aren't often met by the KC area bbq joints. But my search for good bbq was met by Biemer's in Lawrence. The pulled bbq pork sandwich, fries and baked beans have a great taste and are served in good portion sizes that are filling but don't overload you. And this is all based on food that we picked up at the restaurant and drove 25 minutes home to eat. I can only imagine it would taste even better if it is eaten fresh at the restaurant.

    Unfortunately for Biemer's, the week before I ate there, I spent a good few days eating at some of the best BBQ joints in KC; my standards for BBQ have risen quite precipitously from that experience. Therefore, the review: The Good: It's BBQ in Lawrence. There are precious few BBQ joints in the town. The beef brisket was flavourful, if not particularly tender. The fries and onion rings were freshly fried and were as they should be: hot and oily. The Bad: As mentioned before, the brisket, though flavourful, was not particularly tender. Compared with the pulled pork, though, the brisket was heavenly. The pulled pork was a train wreck: cold, dry, not particularly well smoked, and not a particularly good flavour. Some lower quality meats can be saved by a good BBQ sauce; the pulled pork was beyond saving. The Ugly: The restaurant forgot to give us fries with one of our orders, and we had to go back to the counter to rectify that. So I've already talked about the fries, the pork, the beef, and the onion rings. The tableside BBQ sauces were decent enough - nothing special, though. Imagine a "pretty good" tomato based BBQ sauce, and then imagine a "pretty good" vinegar based BBQ sauce. You now have the table sauces. One of the big draws, I think, of many of the KC area BBQ joints is the individualized BBQ sauces (think BB's Lawnside's apple juice-based sauce or L.C.'s sauce with its heavy emphasis on the molasses and spices); Biemer's sauces, while good, are run-of-the-mill. With the suspect quality of the meats served, there's really no reason to go here. There are better options in Lawrence (Bigg's comes to mind), and there are far superior options in Kansas City. If want BBQ and are able, drive to KC. If not, you'd be better served and happier if you went somewhere else in town.

    Biemer's is actually a pretty darn good bbq joint. Incredibly quick--you order at the counter, unlike Biggs, Vermont Street, etc... The Pulled Pork sandwich I had was susprisingly very tasty and the choice of 3 sauces were good as well. I also tried some of the brisket and sausage and those were above average. The sides were nothing to write home about, the vinegar based coleslaw was decent as were the onion rings and fries. Overall, go there for sure, meat is great and it's very quick service. Probably the best bet for BBQ in Lawrence.

    My sister lives about 5-min drive from this BBQ joint and we love to use their drive-through service. I really love the smoked ribs, because they serve it with sauce on the side (I am not a big fan of sauces or too much dressing/gravy on my foods), and the smoky smell and tast of it. They have sweet and spicy sauce, and they are so good. Don't forget to enjoy their fried pickles while you're there, they are too good to be missed. My family stays around the dining table longer whenever we ordered take out from this place.

    If you're rolling in to town off the highway, make sure to stop here!! I was hoping to try some excellent Kansas BBQ and boy, was I NOT disappointed. Ribs, wings, BURNT ends (fatty, burnt goodness) with any one of their different sauces WOWZER! A couple of PBR's and it's the best day ever!

    It smelled terrific when we walked inside. I ordered pulled pork sandwich, fried pickles, and a large drink, and my friend had the special, smoked turkey, fries and a drink. Total was $21, which seemed high. The sandwiches were wrapped in foil on a plastic tray. No plates. The pork was very dry, and had a funny smell but tasted ok. The bun was small and the overall size of the sandwich was a bit disappointing. The fried pickles were spears vs. slices (I prefer sliced) and were a bit undercooked. The Very Hot sauce was good, and pretty hot. Overall, the food was good enough, but the presentation was poor and the prices too high for the amount of food.

    Great local BBQ. The space is an old fast food restaurant, and you can tell it, so do not go here for the ambiance, go here for the food! They have amazing pork (I have been told brisket and turkey as well, but I am a pig type of lady). The sides I have tried are beans, slaw, and fries (all find accompaniments, but again, the meat is the star). They have other fried delights, but I have not sampled them. To accent the meat (although their saying is that the meat is so good that you do not need sauce), there are a variety of sauces, from sweet (nice and thick), sweet and tangy (a little peppery and a little sweet, my personal favorite), to vinegar (very delicious on the fires) and hot vinegar (I'm too much of a baby to try it, since I have been told this is truly hot). They have others as well, but I have not tried them. I usually eat here for lunch, since the service is quick and I can get a seat with relative ease (although there is a steady stream of locals); the manager always stops by to ensure satisfaction (always a resounding yes). This is located close to some picnic tables, so if it is nice out, it is super convenient to stop in to get your food and head al fresco. They also have a drive through, but I have never used it. Although it is not about the food/space, this place is great at supporting local philanthropies (I know from personally working with them). The great food, good service, and support of local causes makes this my go to for Lawrence BBQ.

    First of all, I love this place. I think the staff members are great and friendly, and the food. The food is AMAZING. I love their burnt ends and the pulled pork sandwich. I believe it's a local place, so the price can be a bit pricey (I was a college student when I lived in Lawrence). As a college student in that area, I loved this place so much! Also, they have those stamp cards that says buy 8 sandwiches and get the next one free. HELLLOOOO FREE SANDWICHES!! So...why is it a 4 Star? I feel that over time, their price has gone up, but the portion has gone down. THIS IS PURELY MY OPINION. I understand lots of ingredients' prices have gone up, but still as a college student it wasn't a very welcoming experience. STILL, their SAUCES and MEAT ARE TO DIE FOR (the very hot sauce may actually kill you...) My favorite is the pulled pork sandwich combo- which comes with fries and a drink. I love mixing a hint of very hot ( VERY HOT ) and sweet. It's perfect. Oh and I recommend the Onion Rings. They are crispy and taste great with their sauces.

    The ribs fall off the bone. I like a mix of the regular & hot vinegar sauces. Delicious. Best ribs I've had.

    If they are out of burnt ends don't be surprised. It's cause they are the best thing on the menu. Order a half pound of burnt ends with baked beans. You won't be sorry.
