Every time I go it is just right! Their steak burgers are amazing. And the fries feel like you can never get enough! Only downside is their special frozen custard. Not very good. But I love the meal! Great for lunch or whatever you're looking for. Plus they have caffeine free root beer

This location is okay for the drive by interstate food but the cleanliness leaves something to be desired! I love love LOVE Freddy's...just not this location. Whoever the franchise owner is, let me spell it out for you: (1) Clean the soda machines. The ice dispenser was gross. Filthy actually. You could see the slime very clearly on the interior of the dispenser. The entire drink area needs a major cleaning. (2) The bathrooms are not the most pleasant either. They need a major overhaul, massive Clorox bleach fest party. Clean them up! (3) This is the ONLY Freddy's location I've ever been to (and trust me I've visited several) where the food came out...borderline cold! The normal shoe string Freddy's fries (which are the best by the way!) were lukewarm here. What a letdown! So, if you are the franchise owner, please pay attention to the following issues. If you want to see a stellar Freddy's location, just visit the Overland Park, KS location at 135th! I still love Freddy's! Just not this location.

I'm pretty picky when it comes to burgers. Of all the fast food burger joints this is my favorite. I love the crispy burger patties, the pickles and the fry sauce. I had the double burger California Style. I rarely eat fast food but when I do this is tops for burgers.

It's a great restaurant when you're coming into Hayes a nice little place to stop and grab a great burger and a Sundaes.

Yes definitely worth waiting an extra 30 or so miles to eat good, fast-food and custards.

While I've lived in many places around the country, and visited a good number more, I have never eaten at - or even heard of - a Freddy's until I made it to Kansas, near the middle of the US. How did I miss this? Freddy's isn't fancy, and there isn't anything wrong with that. While Burger King, McDonald's and Wendy's try and crank out fancy burgers with names you can barely pronounce, Freddy's makes burgers, plain and simple. Not that the burgers themselves are plain, not by a long shot. But they are awfully tasty, and I do wish they would head this way soon. As luck would have it, they are at least opening in NC now, though they haven't made it to Charlotte just yet - so maybe they'll be here before long. In the meantime, if you see Freddy's, stop in for a burger and/or frozen custard. Well worth it.

I love a good burger! This was not a even close to being appetizing! The burger was smashed flat and cooked to a crisp. I don't get why ppl come here for a flat, over cooked, tasteless, worthless burger. This was my first and last time eating at a Freddies!

Excellent vanilla custard! I just wish they'd do a small size with one scoop. It's time places like this do smaller sizes when asked. I had to throw 1/2 of it in the trash.

We've never eaten at a Freddy's until we stopped for lunch in Hays. We didn't know what to oder so we asked the young girl behind the register. She recommended the Double Cheese Combo for $7.09, onion rings instead of fries for an extra $.50 and sub a Brownie Sundae for the drink. Total $9.79. So we ordered two and got stuffed for less than $20. Their menu can be confusing if you haven't eaten there before so take your time and ask for any specials. the kids working there all seemed to be having fun and were very polite and helpful. Wish we had one at home.

A Freddy's opened near my house in Colorado, so when out on a road trip through Kansas it only made sense to drop into this one in Hays. Freddy's is much better than the other options there in Hays. As other Yelpers have mentioned, the burger patties are super-super thin. Definitely order a double or triple to be satisfied. A single is basically all bun. But then again maybe you're a buns guy. The frozen custard............ DANG! I hadn't had it before. Freddy's frozen custard may have me rethinking my relationship with ice cream.

The burgers themselves have a good caramelized flavor. Fries are OK, but are so slim, they are almost like a chip flavor instead. The burgers are priced like 5 guys, but are more on par with In and Out. The custard is good, but is also a bit overpriced. The "special" fry sauce is just mayo and ketchup mixed together. When we were there, it was raining lightly that day and there were multiple leaks in the roof making puddles all over the dining area. Attention to the puddles by the staff was mediocre.

Good local place close to the highway and nice break from McDonalds for those loooong trips through Kansas.

We had never heard of Freddy's until we drove across Kansas, so we thought we'd give this place a try. First of all, this is probably the cleanest fast food place I've ever seen. My wife and I both ordered a steakburger California style, which really just means it has lettuce and tomato. These are what I'd call your classic fast food hamburger. Patties are a little on the thin side, so we'll both probably order doubles the next time around, even though we'd never order a double burger at any other fast food joint. The shoestring fries were very good--crispy and flavorful.

If I wanted meat, I would have ordered a beef burger. I ordered a veggie burger and got that with meat pieces stuck all over it. Doesn't it make sense that when a person orders a veggie patty, they don't want meat? I couldn't even eat it because it tasted like meat and it was overcooked and tough.

We ate at this Freddy's on the way to and back from KC. Good burgers, fries, and custard. The manager was very accommodating and let my wife and I use our own GF buns, they butter toasted them and built the burgers with them. They do have a lettuce wrap option. We will stop there again.

To echo once again the other reviews, yes the patties are hammered thin about 7mm? If you have a Droid Razr, one patty is about that thin. I typically get a double cheeseburger. Being a chain they are always consistent and the food tastes good. Their fries are skinny cut as well, but they are probably the best fries in town. You may disagree if you like regular cut fries though. They use a very fine salt, the signature "Freddys" salt you can buy their sticks to food better(ie covers more surface area) than standard granulated salt so you dont have to use as much. Frozen custard/shakes/mixed ice cream items are all very good. No complaints, but then again how does one go about screwing up ice cream/custard. Kids seem to like it, their are always high school age kids and family's dining. Grandparents like the throw back styling of the diner.

Swung by here on our trip back from Oklahoma City to Colorado. Was very busy (close to interstate) but line moved along pretty quickly. Didn't take too long to get our meal. Love their super skinny fries and the fry sauce. I've always had a good meal at any Freddy's and this one was no different. Will be back to this location on future trips. Recommended!

Super tasty. Unusual thin burgers but very good. Got the Californian Burger. Good taste, not too much sauce (which I like), fries (thin and not greasy...reminds me slightly of In N Out's fries), and then sundaes for dessert. Custard is smooth and creamy. They were busy, but fast and friendly. It was clean too. Definitely a place to stop at when in Hays.

While my mom would give this place 10 stars out of 5 (she thinks the fries are straight from heaven) I am going to give this a very respectable 4 out of 5. I've had the patty melt 3 times, and the double steakburger twice. I enjoy the food, the taste is very good, but the patties are ridiculously undersized. If you don't get at least a double, you might mistake the patty for a perfectly seasoned and tasty piece of cardboard, seriously that thin. Like I said tho, the taste is very good, the price is pretty reasonable for a double with cheese, I think the meals are around $6.50-8.00 across the board with medium fries and a medium drink. I like the decor inside, it's always been clean and the staff has always been friendly when I order. My order has always been correct, (I don't like lettuce or tomatoes on my sandwich, some fast food places forget to keep them off, and I have to take it back because I'm picky and they made the mistake, but not here, they are 100% so far) Thanks Freddy's, 4 solid stars

After following my GPS from highway exit to highway exit, in search of good ribs (because come on, we were near Kansas City, darn it) we gave up and just wanted to find someplace, anyplace to eat. There was one more rib place in Hays, KS for us to find, which of course was closed down We saw a billboard sign for Golden Corral, and I love me some Golden Corral so we headed that way when suddenly we saw this clean, new looking 50ish diner. Good enough. We pull into the diner and wondered what a steakburger was. Well, it's a hamburger, but a pretty good hamburger. I ordered the Patty Melt and Jen got a classic burger. Both were good. Apparently Freddy's prides themselves on seasoning that you can sprinkle onto the burgers yourself. Upon inspection it looked like the secret mix was salt and paprika. Nice try, but didn't really add anything. They also pride themselves on their frozen custards. Jen got a turtle sundae in honor of her cat Turtle, while I had the shake version. Very thick and sweet. Kinda wish I had milk to wash it down. The best thing about this place is that it is clean and new and they really do try. I can't complain about anything. The flavors were nothing special but the food was satisfying and filling. And of course I must admit a bias: I also liked the big photo of Freddy walking up the beach of Leyte in front of General MacArthur monument in my mom's hometown province in the Philippines. Sure it's sentimental, but it's that American sentimentality that makes this place stand out.

Hey, does this double cheeseburger, fries, drink and ice cream make me look fat? This place gets five for the burger and frozen custard (chocolate) and 4 for the fries (if they weren't so salty, they'd get 5). The people running this place are so friendly. They not only delivered my food, but bussed my table. Top notch fast food. Go there.

Great alternative to the usual fast food. Similar to steak n shake, but more fresh and not greasy. The custard was wonderful, so was the California style burger.
