What a wonderful experience.!! I truly enjoyed the atmosphere and the delicious gourmet meal. The "cafe" is located in the old Assaria schoolhouse. When you walk through the Renaissance you will pass photos, prints and artwork on the wall. When you get to the end of the room you can look down over the old gym floor. Very unique place and an excellent way to reuse an old vacant school. When we arrived a small appetizer was on the table of fresh mozzarella with a small tomato and olive. I ordered the nightly special; Chicken Marsala. It was the best Chicken Marsala I have ever had. The chicken was not over cooked. We ordered the Lemon Bundt Cake topped in strawberries. Three of us shared this wonderful dessert. I hope to go again soon. I've never had a better meal.

One of the few places to get truly excellent food in or near Salina. We love this place and every dish we've tried has been great. My favorites are the gnocchi and the polenta, while my wife loves the Steak Venato. Little details like the excellent bread, great appetizers, and the delicious palate cleansing lemon ginger sorbet make this a 5 star spot for sure.

Ate there on a recommendation from a local Salina resident. Food was way above the other choices in Salina. I had Pork Loin, pretty good. The Bread pudding was good and House red was good too. Place seemed a bit full of itself, need to relax a bit. Deviating from the menu was discouraged on the menu? Waiter was attentive but needed to relax a bit. A quaint place with good food.

My husband and I just moved out to Salina, and this place came highly recommended by a local. We were blown away! Not only did this place have a charming, unique ambience, but on top of that the food was DELICIOUS. I had the pork & penne pasta, he had the gnocchi, and we shared the freshly baked house made cheesecake for dessert. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The herbed bread with herb butter was super yummy as well. We will definitely be back!

Very solid Italian food just north of Wichita. Definitely worth the drive. Had the gnocchi and spicy sausage and the pork with rissoto. Pork was a bit dry but overall it is among the best food within 100 miles.

One of those 'best kept secrets'. Who'd a thunk, in a small community just a hop and a skip from Salina, that you could find a fine gourmet restaurant with top notch chefs, nestled in an old school. Definitely a 'must do' for dining experiences. Great for groups that like to meet over great food.

Insanely good food. We moved to the area from Lawrence and tried in vain to find a restaurant with quality food for years. The Renaissance Cafe is the only place that has ever fully met what we were looking for. Prices are a little high, but still reasonable. The house wine is especially reasonable. They include a complimentary little taste of something right when you arrive (usually something on a crostini), as well as a tasty little cookie when they give you the bill. My favorites are the steak venato, gnocchi, and the gorgonzola salad. My husband loves the soups and the pastas. The cheesecake is also divine!! The chocolate flourless cake was a little disappointing and the chocolate bread pudding used to be very good,, but I think they changed the recipe because it seems less chocolately...I don't like it as much anymore. No problem, I'll just stick with the cheesecake which seems to have lots of ricotta in it. Yummy! I love the atmosphere, adjacent to a gymnasium, but still very nice. The Renassaince Cafe is fortunately lacking in pretense, which is not all that common for restaurants serving gourmet food. People are dressed in everything from dressy to very casual (e.g., shorts, jeans). Everyone is super friendly and they have trivial pursuit cards on the table which is a fun touch. Be sure to call for a reservation. We almost always call that day and never have a problem getting one. I think they just ask you to call for a reservation because they are a small restaurant and the chef needs to be sure they have enough food. It's never full when we go at about 5 or 6. Oh, and I think they are only open on Thurs, Friday, Saturday.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
